Shi is a very slender, narrow-built female bodied Arrancar with pale, sickly skin. Her fair complexion often alone is enough to make people uneasy. Due to the parasites living within her body, if she gets flustered, or angry, or feels any certain emotion strongly, the worms find themselves just under her skin, making the pale area seem very red/purple. This tends to happen around her cheeks, , neck, and any joint in her body. Standing at about 4 ft 8 in, she is very petite. Due to her constant activity (training, hiking, etc) she keeps her body slim while also having a rather impressive muscle mass.
Her eye color in her normal Arrancar form is a brilliant bright golden-yellow. If standing close enough to her, the worms that live under her skin can also be seen shifting and moving about her iris. These worms are much smaller in comparison to the ones that swarm her body, about three times smaller, and often only make their appearance when Shi is feeling an intense emotion, or her pulse picks up. Moving to her mouth, Shi has very white, polished teeth with her two front teeth being slightly larger than the rest of her teeth. She had a pair of longer and very sharp canines but beside those, are a smaller pair of sharpened teeth. When in her normal and natural form, Shis hair color becomes a slightly darker pink and the ends bundle up to form a red, diseased section of hair. The worm-like section of hair will coil and move as if it has a mind of its own, but does its best to defend Shi, shielding her from sand, wind, sun, and many natural elements. However, if in a colder environment, the strands of hair will coil up and rest on her head as buns. On her back while in her normal form, rests a pair of small purple bat like wings, reaching about two feet and eight inches from tip to tip. These wings in this form can’t do much other than keep her elevated a few inches from the ground and only do so for about a few hours at a time.
Moving to her outfit, Shi wears a short, crudely buttoned white nurse uniform, a “peek-a-boo” effect being achieved due to her previously mentioned crude buttoning. Beneath the uniform a pair of black thigh highs rest on her mid thigh. Over the socks a pair of platform white “gladiator” style heels is worn. Over her entire ensemble is an oddly styled black and white floor length coat made with a light and flexible, loose, material. The sleeves of the jacket dangle to about her knee, and are often slung around for comedic effect. Two slits in the back of both the nurse outfit and her jacket allow her wings to rest comfortably. Atop her head is a small white flower that rests just in front of her nurse's cap. Opposite of that is her mask. In her normal form, it's simply a small white horn protruding from the top of her head. • Bone Appearance:
Shis hollow piece comes out in stages, much like other Arrancar. When in her first stage her hollow bone piece resembles a horn. It’s about an inch in diameter at its widest point and around three inches long. When in her resereccion form the rest of the mask appears. It covers most of her upper face, and two large horns protrude from the top of her head. • Hollow Hole:
Shis hollow hole is located on her throat. However it is hidden by her clothing. • Reiatsu Colour:
Shi is an incredibly complex and deeply conflicted spirit but despite this, she can’t let go of her chaotic ways. She suffers from a rather..."split personality disorder”. While being in a normal setting she’s very sweet, although a bit sarcastic and brutal with her honesty, she over all carries a very “innocent” and humorous demeanor. This involves talking in third person, and making bat like noises when she's amused or happy. However, Shi is incredibly manipulative. She will go as far as to anger multiple parties to make them take each other out.
She prefers to do her best to not get her hands dirty and has a very “high and mighty" opinion of herself. She is known to have a very short fuse and when angered, she tends either bottle it up and not deal with it, or proceeds to explode on everyone closest to her, throwing tantrums, yelling, unnecessary attitude and snide comments, and even from time to time getting physical. She acts similarly to a toddler, falling to the ground, kicking, screaming, punching. Especially if something doesn’t go her way. She’s hard headed, brash, and a bit reckless and out of control. She does things her way, and usually has a hard time following other people's orders. Typically the only time she does follow orders are when she KNOWS it’ll benefit her in the long run.
She has a very complex view of the world around her, and thus, revels in the chaos and destruction of the world around her. She loves spectating or just hanging around areas with lots of violent or rather negative things happening. Fights are a personal favorite and she will never be able to decide which she enjoys more, reeking havoc or simply watching others do it. The darker things of life endlessly fascinate and amuse her, making stronger and more “morally-corrupt” opponents one big learning experience for her. She never walks away from a fight broken and sad. Every battle, every bruise, every cut, every bit of blood, sweat, and tears poured into her training and fighting, she welcomes. She learns from her mistakes and very quickly, always eager to find ways to improve and prove herself and make herself a force to be reckoned with.
Despite all of these slight character flaws, it opens doors for her to impress those around her. Being a very studious and rather intelligent strategist, she has her moments of absolute seriousness. Where the smiles and giggles are replaced by uninterrupted focus and precision, and these moments are which make her shine. When in physical altercations Shi tends to become “unfeeling”, uncaring, and blood thirsty, losing herself to the fight, finding the most foul of pleasures from exchanging blows.
Despite the need for a violent life, behind closed doors, Shi assumes a very “princess” like mind set. Bossy, demanding and petty are a few words that could be used to accurately sum up her personality. She often behaves similarly to a child, demanding piggy back rides, requesting people brush or play with her hair, or demanding others let her do that to them. She has a tendency to cry but usually this is calmed with a simple nap or slap to the wrist.
Essentially, her personality depends on whom is around her at the time. Closer more valued acquaintances will either have to deal with bossy childish her or formal playful assistant her. Enemies either get super silly her or blood-thirsty crazy her. Shi at her core, is just a girl, confused, a little lost, but ready to approach and tackle any and all challenges head on. She refuses to be disrespected or questioned and because of this, she has pushed and pulled herself to a higher rank within her own mind, because of this, she demands respect and offers loyalty in return for the same. She is a character strictly based on skewed morals and anything she says, she feels, should go. • History:
Shi doesn’t have too many memories of her life before she became an Arrancar. Things come and go and when asked about it, she often will be able to recall faint things..smells, sounds and the memories come through in “pale fuzzy colors”. Despite her lack of memory on the events leading her to her current stage in existence, the girl had been born to a very large and very “religious” “wholesome nuclear family”. Her father was head of a local church in her hometown and her mother assisted many of the religious based women's groups in the area.
They were everyone's cookie cutter idea of the American dream. Behind closed doors, Shi’s home life was a disaster. Her father, an abusive borderline psychotic, regularly used his power as “man of the household” to control the lives of his children, dictating everything they did from the time they were awake until the time they slept. Her mother turned a blind eye and spent her evenings drinking herself into day long comas. The absences were blamed on stress and people believed it. The marriage was broken but the money and kids kept the pair together despite their ever growing differences. Shi and her siblings were expected to uphold their reputation. Good grades were a must, “above and beyond” performances were required with every elective and every one of her siblings was hard wired for “success”. Her parents were always eager to get their kids to their best...whatever the cost.
The one thing she swore to never forget though...was her eldest brother. Names are lost but her older brother...was strong...caring..everything you didn’t think brothers were capable of. He defended the younger kids from so much.... Kept them safe, well fed, took care of their mom. He was her defender, often taking long walks with Shi and educating her in all of life's affairs... at the age of fifteen, a particular conversation struck a chord with her, and she ran from home... She swore to make something of herself and change the world.
The year was 1978 and Shi was now seventeen, nearing her eighteenth birthday. The Vietnam war was in full swing and she had no obligation to remain in a place where her ideas were not shared. She had made a name for herself traveling on the road with different protest groups and eventually found a small band she could call family. She toured with them, singing and playing bass for them. They played small local shows and on a few occasions were offered to be signed to some of the biggest labels at the time. They said no each time, and continued doing their thing for the love and passion rather than money. Eventually, the protesting became too much, and Shi couldn’t find the love or will to stay anymore, so, scraping together whatever money she could find, she ran, and hopped the nearest boat for anywhere but America.
With the war doing its thing and America not being Shi’s ideal home of freedom and love and peace that she strived for, she and her few friends, packed up, and shipped out. After months of travel through Europe a few people from the small group stayed behind through their travels starting their lives in small rural countryside towns, away from the larger cities. Shi and the remainder of the group found themselves in Africa. After seeing many of the sights and having to adapt to the different climate and culture, they eventually settled in Sudan. Still incredibly lacking in technology and “modern” american advances, they were ecstatic. They were able to become “one with the world around them.” Society's rules didn’t apply to them, so, they found a small village, and somewhat...settled near it.
They spoke with locals, traded clothing and random items for assistance with building a home, and soon their small plot of land provided the small group of four all they needed. A nearby well was their water and they spent their days tending to the garden outside. Life was finally good. Without the pressure of the way of life back home the group quickly swung into routine and made their house, a home.
A mere month had gone by, and eventually, things became strained. Bickering among the group was just a regular day. Their lack of knowledge on how to properly manage a crop in the weather condition meant food was a tad harder to get their hands on. They managed, eventually settling on wild game and fruits to keep themselves alive. One rather lucky day Shi had stumbled upon a fruit bat, and without much thought took it back to camp, sat herself down, and began preparing dinner for the group. A fight quickly broke out over portions and thanks to starvation, she bolted, leaving the group to fight among themselves. She settled for eating it alone but this decision would mean she alone, would suffer the fate that she did.
Returning home, things went normally for the next few days until one day about after a week had passed, and Shi fell incredibly ill. Flaring fevers, nasty rashes, relentless vomiting and she was bedridden within a day of these symptoms popping up. The group was patient with Shi, every day at her side. The fighting stopped. They shared their rations, and spent their days trying to care for the girl. One day about another week after the symptoms had begun to show, Shi had gotten up, claiming to feel much better, and went with the group into the nearby village to do some trading for more goods. Having a rather successful afternoon with little to no issue, the group was eventually convinced of her being healed. However, on the walk back home, Shi had been suddenly winded by a merciless pain, leaving her hunched over and cursing profusely.
As she sat back up, a small cough resulted in a mass of blood to be expelled from her body, splashing to the floor beneath her. She looked among her group members, her vision going blurry and the group rushed to her aid. Blood leaked down her face and legs. Her nose, ears, eyes, and mouth soon followed. As her vision shifted in and out of focus, she stumbled to her knees and looked at the faced of her group as they shook her violently, attempting to bring her back to reality. She soon began to find herself in an almost “zombie-like” state. The begging and pleading for a savior resulted in the quick and violent execution with a nearby stone. This was the start of The black death of Africa.
In her hollow life, Shi played the role OF the disease. Moving from city to city, town to town, country to country causing mass panic for some time before eventually, she just stopped. As more years passed she eventually regained consciousness, and found herself born again. A hollow-husk of her human self. Her memories of her past life came through as blurs. She had no idea who she was...or her purpose. She had nothing in her heart but resentment and anger, and decided to use her new power for herself. She had been born again, an Arrancar. Shi took to training and living life as practically as possible. She moved between the human world and the spirit world causing chaos, illness, and death. • Sealed Zanpakutô:
Shis sealed Zanpakutō is a simple polished bonesaw. • Racial Abilities: Bala (虚弾 (バラ), Bara; Spanish for "Bullet," Japanese for "Hollow Bullet"):
a technique of firing hardened spiritual pressure against his enemies. Less powerful than a Cero, but it can be successively fired at 20 times the rate.Cero (虚閃 (セロ), Sero; Spanish for "Zero," Japanese for "Hollow Flash," "Doom Blast" in the Viz translation):
Using this hollow technique, Shi fires a powerful blast of concentrated spiritual energy at her target. Shi can fire Cero from her fingers with excessively destructive power. Her Cero can be charged and fired relatively fast, and are a pink to mirror the color of her reiatsu instead of red, which is the most common color of a Cero. The force of the blast can send an opponent hurtling long distances, effectively destroying any obstacle in its path at great range. Garganta (黒腔 (ガルガンタ), Garuganta; Spanish for "Throat", Japanese for "Black Cavity"):
is how Arrancar and Hollows are able to move in and out from Hueco Mundo. It is a spiritual pathway connecting the Arrancar's world, Hueco Mundo, to other worlds. Besides the World of the Living and the Soul Society, it can also open the gates of the Dangai and K-World. A turbulence of Reishi blows within Garganta. To move through it, travellers must create footholds using the Reishi.Hierro (鋼皮 (イエロ), Iero; Spanish for "Iron," Japanese for "Steel Skin"):
An Arrancar's outer skin with high spiritual hardness that serves as armor.Pesquisa (探査回路 (ペスキサ), Pesukisa; Spanish for "Inquiry," Japanese for "Probe Circuit"):
An Arrancar ability to measure and locate spiritual pressure.Sonído (響転 (ソニード), Sonīdo; Spanish for "Sound," Japanese for "Sound Ceremony") ;
The Arrancar equivalent to a Shinigami's Shunpo.• Unique Abilities: Nise katachi (偽形) False Form:
This ability is used anytime Shi may find herself “out of her element.” Using her spirit energy, Shi will conceal her identity with a false form. This false form can be activated at anytime anywhere and can be held for about five hours at a time. It becomes much more difficult for her to hold the form when physical altercations occur so because of this, Shi does her best to keep to herself if she’s in this form.
False Form Appearance:
False Form Outfit (typically):
Kansen [感染] Infection:
This ability can be used even without a weapon. Shi is a walking disease. There are small micro-parasites infesting her entire body, each of these parasites doubles as a virus...a virus that never stops reproducing once it's found its host. The only way to be infected with Shi’s disease is for her to make DIRECT contact and for her to break skin so that the parasites may be transferred into the bloodstream. This is usually orchestrated in the very beginning of a fight in which Shi will drag her tongue over the sharp edge of her blade, either covering it in saliva, or pressing hard enough to draw blood. Once this has happened, the parasite may live out of the host's body for only 2-3 posts, or this becomes useless and she must repeat the process. So as long as you can dodge her blade, being stricken with illness can be avoided. However, once an enemy has been infected, the illness spreads slowly, not taking effect in the infected party until after the current fight will have ended. This type of delayed reaction is what makes this ability so deadly.
After the battle when the enemy begins to put less strain on their body, the parasite may lie dormant for about two to three days before returning with the symptoms showing almost immediately starting with fever and fatigue. The parasite feeds on white blood cells, making clotting harder and slows healing factors present in the target by nearly 20%.. After about a week of this, the target will enter stage two of the infection. At this stage, vomiting and bleeding from the ears, mouth, nose, eyes, and other orifices on their body may occur. This will go on for roughly four days before the final stage of the infection begins.
For its last trick, the disease will move rapidly, feeding on spiritual energy as it begins to shut the target’s body down, and hemorrhagic bleeding will happen almost instantaneously. This has a 50% chance of causing serious internal damage which will need an excess of treatment, and a 50% chance of rendering the infected party comatose. While the only person alive who is naturally immune to Shi is her lover, Nemain, there is in fact multiple successful cures for Shi’s illness.
The first is electrocution. If, at any point during the disease’s lifespan (even during the thread in which one was infected, before the parasites actually activate), the parasites experience a jolt of electricity equal to that of a medical-grade defibrillator, they will become inert and simply die within the target’s body without any continued negative effects. The second method is a blood transfusion which would be a more drastic measure and usually one that would be more commonly used in a later stage of the infection to replace the devoured cells and force the parasites out of the infected party. Finally, a character could beat this infection through the time-tested method of “turning it off and on again”.. Meaning in essence that a character would need to sleep or otherwise find themselves in a state of low or no consciousness for a period of seventy-two hours or more. The only way to know of any of these preventative measures, though, is by acquiring that information from Shi herself.. Kyōsei Shukushu [共生 宿主] Symbiotic Host:
Shi is the host for the disease/parasites living within her body. Because of this, they have the opposite effect for her than they do to a foreign host. Instead of reducing her body’s ability to heal itself, Shi’s parasites actually boost the natural replication rate of her cells, allowing for rapid sort of self-regeneration. Because of this, injuries inflicted with blades can be clotted almost instantaneously so long as they are not debilitating or mortal wounds that would otherwise remove a limb, destroy an organ, or kill the host.
Shi’s parasites are a double-edged sword, so to speak, where the healing it provides her is concerned. While Shi does act as their host, the sheer volume and nature of the parasites themselves can overwhelm Shi at nearly any given moment. Any time her body is injured within the conditions specified above, there is a chance that the parasites will respond to the pain and rush to the wound, stopping the bleeding and closing the breach rapidly. However, there is an equal chance that instead of healing, Shi will find herself experiencing massive amounts of pain and agony over her entire body. This is the rather debilitating trade-off that such a rapid regeneration brings with it, and one that can do Shi far more harm than good if she isn’t careful.
The results of the attempt to heal are determined by a number of factors. If the fight is extremely far along and she's begun to use a large amount of energy the likeliness of the parasites attacking her body and leaving her paralyzed almost doubles and lasts anywhere from one to five posts, basically ending the fight. Other things like temperature, lack of sleep, if she's eaten recently also play a big part in how her parasites behave. Colder temperatures result in a more violent attempt of the parasites to protect their host but instead of protecting the rapid movement and sporadic behavior only hurts her even worse. However this effect can also occur within other hosts Shi has infected, but can happen far more quickly and with much more intensity due to the bodies unfamiliarity with the parasites.
Another interesting ability that Shi gains from the parasites’ presence within her bloodstream is that they protect her blood from outside influence, meaning that opponent abilities that would drain, alter, utilize, or otherwise negatively impact the normal flow of the blood running through her veins would find themselves unable to use or affect Shi’s.Korogashi [転がし] Toss:
Shi has syringes filled with a fluid containing an ample amount of her parasites. Said fluid inside the syringe is thick and obviously weighs the needle down significantly. Shi will often walk around with a belt of them around her waist, and both thighs. This move, toss, has Shi charge up her hands with reiatsu before flinging these at range like throwing knives at her enemies with speed roughly equal to that of a bala. She’s a fairly good throw and can manage to land about 45% of syringes thrown. While this can be used as an alternate method of infection where her opponents are concerned, Shi’s primary usage of this ability is as a distraction. It is meant, more than anything, to keep opponents on their toes and at a distance while Shi feels them out and tries to get a general idea of what they can do. Shi will carry at most 12 of these syringes at any given time.Kuiiru [食い入る] Devour:
This ability could be described rather aptly as vampiric in nature. Due to the parasites that call her body home, it's not unusual for Shi to bleed from multiple places on her body (eyes, ears, nose, etc) at random. While this does not cause Shi the same fear, confusion, or pain as it probably would for most (as it is simply an occupational hazard for Shi), it does mean that Shi needs to occasionally “feed” on other blood-filled creatures to maintain herself. The blood type typically doesn't matter; however, the more iron-filled the blood is, the more chance it has of being “rejected” as a substitute by the parasites and, as a consequence, causing Shi to become paralyzed temporarily.
Shi’s teeth and naturally sharpened claw like nails make refueling herself much easier. Using her fangs or nails to pierce either a corpse, a willing ally, or an opponent, she will drink their blood, thus keeping herself from bleeding out during more intense fights. This is very useful if she’s traveling with a trusted companion who doesn't mind the occasional feeding. Once she has gotten enough blood to replace the amount lost, it grants her a temporary boost to speed, strength, and reaction time by a factor of roughly 1.50x. This boost will only last 2-3 posts.
The major concern that Shi has with this loss of blood is that if she does not feed at least once during periods of high exertion, she runs the risk of passing out entirely due to blood loss and needing to be relocated elsewhere for recovery. When fighting normally, the rate at which her blood will drain is usually manageable. If Shi makes use of her resereccion, however, she will need, without exception, to either feed or have already fed at least once. If she has not already fed upon entering the resereccion state, Shi will need to feed within five posts of entering her release, lest she collapse due to the volume of blood lost.• Resereccion Name:
Chi byōki [血病気]• Resereccion Release Phrase:
“Go forth, and plague the world, Chi byōki!”• Release Actions:
Shi will whisper or “purr” her release phrase and proceed to coat her blade with blood or saliva from her tongue before she is swallowed by her enlarged wings. After a few seconds of silence, she opens her wings to her new form, and unleashed weapon. • Resereccion Appearance:
Resereccion Unsealed Weapon:
Once Chi byōki is released, Shi is then engulfed in her enormous wings, pink bits of energy can be seen radiating off of her. After a few seconds of silence, Shi emerges, her wings in full view along with her newly grown tail. When in this form, Shi’s innocent nurse themed uniform is replaced by a much more revealing and darker outfit. Two large horns have sprouted from her head. This tail is almost skeletal in structure but looks...oily and dirty. The tail emits a low crackle sound when moving, a result of the many pieces of the tail shifting, and lightly tapping against one another. Her attacks in this stage become far more sporadic and random but just as fast and with the new formed chain saw, her range increases a couple of feet, making her a rather unreadable and lethal opponent.
At this point in the fight, blood will often begin to leak from her nose, mouth, and ears due to the strain being put on her body from being in such a hard to manage form. She becomes highly toxic and deadly, even to herself. Her teeth grow in size, and her jaw will remain clenched for the majority of the rest of the fight. Her large bone saw (Chi Byōki) is replaced with a large elaborate chainsaw, pink in color and charged up and used with spirit energy, and it consumes very small amounts so Shi can focus her energy into keeping her form instead of constantly worrying about her weapon. • Resereccion Abilities: Nokogiri [鋸] Saw:
This ability can only be used when Chi has been unsealed and has taken on the form of the large chainsaw. At first, this may seem as if it is a simple sling-type move in which Shi will spin either 180 or 360 degrees and bring her chainsaw to bear with both hands, launching a slash of pink spiritual energy that vibrates at speeds high enough to slice through bone almost instantly. It will function like a “cutting” technique so long as it hits an inanimate object such as an attack it collides with or a physical object in the environment, slicing through any material (barring those with the same level of defense or cut resistance as Sekiseki Stone or those with spiritual defenses or attachments such as the blade of a Zanpakutō) with ease due to the vibrational frequency of this slash.
However, if the attack makes contact with a living being, the effects as well as the nature of the attack itself will change. If it successfully lands a direct hit on an opponent, internal damage will be done rather than external. Instead of this ability functioning like a normal attack in which the enemy’s ability to defend is based on the attack’s strength versus the opponent’s defense, it will function entirely on an internal level where the opponent’s ability to defend will depend entirely
on a check of Shi’s willpower versus the opponent’s.
If Shi’s opponent’s willpower is equal to or higher than her own, they will find this attack not doing much of anything. However, for those with willpower less than Shi’s own, they might find bruising, fractures, internal bleeding, or even serious organ damage based on the point of impact and difference in willpower. (A/N: Whether or not this attack damages the opponent is based entirely on Will and not Tier based on the nature of the attack. This means that if Shi faced a 6-0 with Master Willpower and her own Willpower was only Adept, the 6-0 would not be affected by this technique. Conversely, if Shi faced a 0-2 with Adept willpower and her own Willpower was Master level, this attack would still be able to damage the opponent despite the gap.)
Due to the nature of this ability being a tricky one, only three slashes may be sent off consecutively due to needing a slight “charge” up time before Shi must wait four posts to fire more off. The blasts themselves rocket across the battlefield like a bullet-train, taking a quick eye and quicker feet for most to be able to dodge one. These blasts will travel for up to fifty yards before dissipating. If Shi is lucky enough to have ALL three fired slashes hit the same point on her enemy, it will also introduce her parasites to the opponent’s body as a sub-effect of this ability.Ishi [石] Stone:
The other ability that Shi commands within her release is an automated defense based around the tail that extends from her person in this form. Without Shi even needing to command it, this tail will move of its own accord to block and absorb damage from small projectiles thrown Shi’s way. It can block up to twenty bala-strength techniques, or up to five cero-strength techniques, from people at her level of strength per post. (For people weaker than Shi, this number increases to up to thirty bala-strength techniques, and up to seven cero-strength techniques. For people stronger than Shi this number reduces by the amount of tiers between Shi and her opponent. So while someone one tier higher than Shi might find themselves able to launch fifteen bala and still have Shi’s tail deflect them, someone a whole tier level above Shi might find that it only takes five bala-strength techniques to pass the capacity her tail has for defense in this form). Once its capacity has been reached, the tail will simply lie dormant until the next post, leaving Shi to deal with any other incoming projectiles by herself.
Another defensive capability that Shi has in this form actually requires conscious effort. Twice in any given thread, Shi can wrap her wings around her person, hardening them and absorbing up to a Gran Rey Cero’s worth of energy before shattering and re-forming as they would have been seen before hardening. Shi has the ability to “overclock” this defense, so to speak, using it a third time for an extra-effective defense. The consequence of this, however, is the loss of use of both her wings and tail for the remainder of the thread. General Skills
