II. Personality Traits

» Personality:

Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all.
-Helen Keller

Umeko always has an impact on her immediate surroundings – the best way to spot her at a party is to look for the whirling eddy of people flitting about her as she moves from group to group. Laughing and entertaining with a blunt and earthy humor, Umeko loves to be the center of attention. If an audience member is asked to come on stage, Umeko would volunteer – or volunteer a shy friend.

Theory, abstract concepts and plodding discussions about global issues and their implications don't keep Umeko interested for long. Umeko keeps her conversation energetic, with a good dose of intelligence, but she likes to talk about what is – or better yet, to just go out and do it. Umeko leaps before she looks, fixing her mistakes as she goes, rather than sitting idle, preparing contingencies and escape clauses.

Umeko is the likeliest person to make a lifestyle of risky behavior. She lives in the moment and dives into the action – she is the eye of the storm. Umeko enjoys drama, passion, and pleasure, not for emotional thrills, but because it's so stimulating to her logical mind. She is forced to make critical decisions based on factual, immediate reality in a process of rapid-fire rational stimulus response.

This makes schools and other highly organized environments a challenge for Umeko. It certainly isn't because she isn't smart, and she can do well, but the regimented, lecturing approach of formal education is just so far from the hands-on learning that Umeko enjoys. It takes a great deal of maturity to see this process as a necessary means to an end, something that creates more exciting opportunities.

Also challenging is that to Umeko, it makes more sense to use her own moral compass than someone else's. Rules were made to be broken. This is a sentiment few instructors or supervisors are likely to share, and can earn Umeko a certain reputation. But if she minimizes the trouble-making, harnesses her energy, and focuses through the boring stuff, Umeko is a force to be reckoned with.

With perhaps the most perceptive, unfiltered view of any of her peers, Umeko has a unique skill in noticing small changes. Whether a shift in facial expression, a new clothing style, or a broken habit, Umeko picks up on hidden thoughts and motives where most would be lucky to pick up anything specific at all. Umeko uses these observations immediately, calling out the change and asking questions, often with little regard for sensitivity. Umeko has trouble remembering that not everyone wants their secrets and decisions broadcast.

Sometimes Umeko's instantaneous observation and action is just what's required, as in some corporate environments, and especially in emergencies. If Umeko isn't careful though, she may get too caught in the moment, take things too far, and run roughshod over more sensitive people, or forget to take care of her own health and safety.

Umeko is full of passion and energy, complemented by a rational, if sometimes distracted, mind. Inspiring, convincing and colorful, she is a natural group leader, pulling everyone along the path less traveled, bringing life and excitement everywhere she goes. Putting these qualities to a constructive and rewarding end is Umeko's true challenge.

Umeko's personality is usually perceived as calm, reserved or even cautious. However, such an exterior can be deceptive – even though Umeko can be somewhat cautious, her inner flame and passion is not something to be taken lightly. Umeko is really affectionate, a trait not often seen in a lot of others. This compassion can be really fervent and long-lasting – but Umeko will use it quite cautiously, directing her energies towards a few selected people or a worthy cause. Idealism is the banner of Umeko's personality – and she is proud of it. Unfortunately, it also means that Umeko can often feel misunderstood and isolated.

Umeko has a clear sense of honor, which inspires and motivates her. If someone wants to get to know her, it is crucial to know what drives her, to understand her chosen cause. She seeks harmony in her life and the surrounding environment, often feeling dejected because of all the bad things happening in the world and trying hard to create something positive. Umeko tends to see things and actions from the idealistic perspective, rather than the prism of logic. She responds to beauty, morality, virtue rather than utility, effectiveness or value.

Umeko can easily speak in metaphors and parables, and she also has an amazing gift of creating and interpreting symbols – for this reason, Umeko often finds it natural to write and enjoy poetry. She may also often retreat into her "hermit" state, withdrawing from the world and getting lost in her deep thoughts – her partner may then need to spend quite a lot of effort to energize and "awaken" the woman.

Umeko possesses a trait common among her family – their aptitude for foreign languages. Umeko also often writes, as she can easily reflect and convey her own personality using fictional characters. Generally speaking, she has a personality type that is extremely creative, innovative and goal-oriented – she can be a great advocate for a cause she truly believes in. Finally, Umeko has the ability to notice even the slightest hint of good in other people. In her eyes, even the most revolting person will have something worthy of respect or, at the very least, sympathy.

III. Character Background

» History

Long ago, before the Sugiuran lands were divided into the four kingdoms, when Guardian Beast territories were interwoven with those of the Sugiurans themselves, it was considered a part of life for the occasional, more aggressive guardian beast to lay considerable waste to any number of unguarded villages within this realm. The process of pillaging and conquest was not one reserved for human history, and many a time had destruction come to an entire series of towns simply because of the power of a wayward beast being used toward unsavory ends.

This is how it came to be that on a day in Zha'til three hundred and fourty three years ago, one such attack had an entire village in a panic. Buildings had been lit ablaze, soldiers had been cut down. A guardian beast unlike anything the village had ever seen had gone on a rampage, having apparently gone entirely conquer-crazy as the beast had begun destroying towns at a whim, leveling buildings and slaying whomever was in the way.

This small village was named Hujishiro, and it was the home of a clan known as Zhilan. This family had only come to the village about six years prior, but they had been around for as long as anybody could remember. They were generally viewed as strange and taboo based on their tendencies to stray from the village's common religious practices, instead focusing on science and experimentation to achieve desired results.

The reasoning for their being so estranged from their peers is that their last home, the village of Yenshu in the far east, was destroyed by a guardian beast even after their attempts to stop it. Their family had been working on a serum for decades that was going to combine a formula consumed by the user with a ritual to create an aura that would quell and subdue guardian beasts, allowing for sugiurans to protect themselves from the ravages of the ones whom weren't at all friendly. They had drafted up a prototype, but had been finding it troublesome to find anyone who was willing to test the serum for them. Before they were able to find a suitable candidate, a day came when in the early morning.. the invasion alarms began to sound. Loudly, and clearly, the wailing horn pierced the air. The village was under attack.

Explosions and screaming filled the streets as those whom were not already caught in the crossfire of this destructive rampage were scrambling in all directions, fleeing for their very lives. Instead of joining the panicked running, the Zhilan clan decided to try out their invention. The current family matriarch, Teio Zhilan, downed the whole of the serum, readying herself to go out and face the creature. Instead, Teio fell unconscious almost immediately, a green glow enveloping the woman's body before her very life force seemed to leave her. Unsure of what else to do, her husband Izuya gathered her up and fled, following the path of the others who had evacuated as he left the village to the guardian beast's mercy. As he reached the edge of the forest surrounding the village, Izuya turned back to look at the village's dying breath, the town ablaze. If he didn't know any better, Izuya would've sworn he saw someone standing amongst the fire, watching him as he turned and dashed into the trees.

As they traveled west, Teio eventually woke up, able to go between walking and riding on Izuya's back for the duration of their travels. It had taken them about five months, but at last they had found a village that in their minds would not be found by anyone due to its location at the bottom of an incredibly deep valley. Over the course of the next month, Izuya had searched for and eventually found a laboratory that he could reasonably be able to sneak into. In the dead of one cold night, Izuya took a vial of Teio's blood to said laboratory, wanting to examine it to see if he could isolate what had gone wrong in the consumption process. To Izuya's surprise, the results showed that the chemical hadn't worked because it was unbalanced. The measurements they had taken for the formula was only enough to account for one person's metabolic needs. And Teio... was supporting two.

Knowing now that his wife was carrying a child, Izuya gave up on the formula and returned home, confronting his wife to which she shocked him by telling him she had known, and simply hadn't wanted to say anything for fear of disappointing him by telling him that this child could not function as a true heir.. as Teio was having a girl. Izuya was not mad, he was ecstatic. He loved the idea of having a daughter, as he did not believe himself equipped in his dwindling health to deal with the roughhousing-filled upbringing of a young boy.

Over the course of the next few months, Izuya focused on designing armor, clothing, and other such things out of the house he had built for them on the outskirts of the village, using the money to support his betrothed through the last trimester of her pregnancy. And at the end of the process, when they held their baby girl in their hands, they felt something truly amazing from her. She was a completion to their unit that they didn't know they needed. They named their little girl Umeko, and they raised her together while Izuya continued working as a crafter from home.

Umeko was a curious child, her entire upbringing being generally summed up by the phrase "what do you think you're doing?". Which Umeko learned just meant stop. From infancy, she had a passion to touch everything, to learn how everything worked, to understand the world around her. She felt drawn from the moment she was born to know all of the workings of the things her dad worked with. She wanted to know, and when she was told no, she got unreasonably upset. This was the beginning of her lifelong pull toward control, as this urge to know all would slowly turn into a need to make sure that she had control.. That things were secure and in order.. That she had the authority to make things as she thought they should be.

As she grew, so too did this need. "Trouble child" didn't even begin to cover it as Umeko's reaction to not getting her way was always a lot more explosive than most developing children. Her terrible twos started at birth, and never really ended. While this was seen as bratty and exasperating behaviour, it wasn't something Umeko was doing out of malice. Even as a baby, Umeko had a gift for seeing a way to optimize the layout of the world around her, as well as her own productivity. So, whenever a decision her parents made got in the way of the path that she saw as best, of course she threw a tantrum. She didn't have any other way to communicate at such a young age that they were impeding her progress.

As Umeko slowly began to form words, the true gift that this nature was became more and more apparent to her mother and father. It was an intimate understanding of the best possible layout in any given situation. As young as age four, Umeko was able to help her father Izuya rearrange his workstation in a way that was more efficient than he ever could have imagined. So much so, that it doubled his product output, and the family was thriving for a period of time. However, life is a series of train wrecks interrupted by brief commercial breaks of happiness.. and after six years of Izuya and Teio's life in their new home, five of which spent with their beautiful daughter, the longest break they had gotten was finally at its end.

On a cold night in the harvest season, Izuya and Teio were awoken by a sound that surged from their memory to haunt their very existence.. a sound that called to mind the worst of possibilities for what was in store for the two.. the sound of the alarm bells screaming into the darkness.. Once again, thousands of miles from where they had escaped death six years ago, there was a guardian beast attacking their village.

The couple hustled, struggling to get together enough supplies to survive the journey to another new home as they scrambled around amidst the sounds of horrified, sickening screaming and fiery explosions from the village outside. They were getting dangerously close, and packing was taking longer than last time because they had an extra head to account for. Realizing at the same time what had not yet been gathered, Izuya and Teio panicked at once, rushing to Umeko's room. As the door opened, Izuya immediately bolted downstairs to the sound of Teio's mournful wail as she stared into the room. Their daughter's bed was empty. Izuya hurried downstairs, throwing open the door and rushing into the street. What he saw there would haunt him for the rest of his life.

Standing in the middle of the road, only a silhouette shadowed against a backdrop of flames licking the night sky, was Umeko.. staring upward at a towering female figure clad in armor.. a figure who weighed down on the area around her with a power so dense that Izuya was finding it hard to breathe. This.. was the guardian beast.. sword in hand.. ruins of the village behind her.. looking down at his daughter. Izuya yelled aloud, screaming at the beast to get away from Umeko. The blonde being looked at Izuya with piercing eyes, scaring the hell out of the sugiuran as he prepared to rush the woman. Before he could even move his feet, the beast had sheathed her sword and collected Umeko in her arms.. leaving Izuya to watch helplessly as she ran off into the depths of the forest with the young sugiura in tow.. her father standing out in the night air.. the glow of the burning village illuminating the absolutely shattered expression on his face as he lost sight of the guardian beast... as well as his daughter.

She had gone, and even as her parents aged and eventually died searching for her over the course of the next seventy years, she was never found. No trace of Umeko remained, and as her parents had her in a cabin outside of a burnt down village, no one else knew of her.. meaning that with the death of her mother and father, any record of her ever having been born or existing was gone as well. This crafted her story into legend. The child who was carried away, whose parents had searched every corner of the realm, the one kidpnapped by a rampaging guardian beast. Some would've sworn she was dead, others believed her to live on as a child of the Beasts.

Eventually, the legend itself was even lost, as the eventual founding of the Kingdoms and separation of the lands to grant the Guardian Beasts their own sanctum took priority in the minds and hearts of the sugiuran people. The girl was lost to time as hundreds of years passed by.. eras passing and royal families rising and falling.. until finally, three hundred years after the day she was kidnapped.. Umeko returned.

During a meeting between the kingdoms, Umeko chose to make her entrance. She walked into the meeting room, baffling those who would've sworn that there were guards outside, followed by a blonde woman in black armor who was immediately recognized as the guardian beast Avalon.. one worshipped as a God among the sugiuran people.. Some bowed, others only stared. Umeko stood before the kingdoms, and stated her name, telling everyone the story of what had happened to her.. how she had stopped the guardian beast Avalon and helped her to calm and subjugate a large number of guardian beasts to try and prevent attacks in the future, which had become unnecessary once the southern lands had been dedicated to the beasts. Umeko told of her and Avalon training relentlessly, about their partnership.. and finally, about her plan to optimize the workings of the eastern lands utilizing the skills and abilities she had learned and developed with Avalon.

The fact that she had with her someone whom the sugiuran people literally worshipped made it hard to tell her no, but it seemed as if she had the whole thing worked out.. and the more that she talked about the improvements that could be made, the more sold that those in power truly were. The Eastern Kingdom brought her and Avalon into their court as advisors and over the course of the next fourty years they aided in all manner of affairs from rebuilding projects to dam creation, resource management.. her eye for the most efficient utilization of space, tools, and components making her an invaluable asset in the Kingdom's thriving reign. Eventually, as the curren't patriarch's reign came to a close without having having been able to sire a true heir, Umeko was the only one who had the unanimous approval of the entire court as well as the citizenship itself. Umeko's optimization plan finally paid off in full as she was brought into the position as Monarch of the Eastern Lands, ready to carry the Eastern Kingdom with her into a golden age for the sugiurans. Three years later, Umeko still holds this spot, never being seen without Avalon far behind as she continues to work toward

» Personality:

Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Expose your ideas to the dangers of controversy. Speak your mind and fear less the label of 'crack-pot' than the stigma of conformity. And on issues that seem important to you, stand up and be counted at any cost.
- Thomas J. Watson

Avalon is the ultimate devil's advocate, thriving on the process of shredding arguments and beliefs and letting the ribbons drift in the wind for all to see.Avalon doesn't do this because she is trying to achieve some deeper purpose or strategic goal, but for the simple reason that it's fun. No one loves the process of mental sparring more than Avalon, as it gives her a chance to exercise her effortlessly quick wit, broad accumulated knowledge base, and capacity for connecting disparate ideas to prove her point.

An odd juxtaposition arises with Avalon, as she is uncompromisingly honest, but will argue tirelessly for something she doesn't actually believe in, stepping into another's shoes to argue a truth from another perspective. Playing the devil's advocate helps Avalon to not only develop a better sense of others' reasoning, but a better understanding of opposing ideas – since Avalon is the one arguing them. This tactic shouldn't be confused with mutual understanding. Avalon is on a constant quest for knowledge, and what better way to gain it than to attack and defend an idea, from every angle, from every side?

Taking a certain pleasure in being the underdog, Avalon enjoys the mental exercise found in questioning the prevailing mode of thought, making her irreplaceable in reworking existing systems or shaking things up and pushing them in clever new directions. However, she'd be miserable managing the day-to-day mechanics of actually implementing her suggestions. Avalon loves to brainstorm and think big, but she will avoid getting caught doing the "grunt work" at all costs.

Avalon's capacity for debate can be a vexing one – while often appreciated when it's called for, it can fall painfully flat when she steps on another's toes by say, openly questioning her boss in a meeting, or picking apart everything her significant other says. This is further complicated by Avalon's unyielding honesty, as she doesn't mince words and cares little about being seen as sensitive or compassionate. Like-minded types get along well enough with Avalon, but more sensitive types, and society in general, are often conflict-averse, preferring feelings, comfort, and even white lies over unpleasant truths and hard rationality.

This frustrates Avalon, and she finds that her quarrelsome fun burns many bridges, oftentimes inadvertently, as she plows through others' thresholds for having their beliefs questioned and their feelings brushed aside. Treating others as they'd be treated, Avalon has little tolerance for being coddled, and dislikes when people beat around the bush, especially when asking a favor.Avalon is widely respected for her vision, confidence, knowledge, and keen sense of humor, but often struggles to utilize these qualities as the basis for deeper friendships and romantic relationships.

Avalon has had a longer road than most in harnessing her natural abilities – her intellectual independence and free-form vision are tremendously valuable when she's in charge, or at least has the ear of someone who is, but getting there can take a level of follow-through that Avalon struggles with.

Once she's secured such a position, Avalon needs to remember that for her ideas to come to fruition, she will always depend on others to assemble the pieces – if she's spent more time "winning" arguments than she have building consensus, Avalon will find she simply doesn't have the support necessary to be successful. Playing devil's advocate so well, Avalon finds that the most complex and rewarding intellectual challenge is to understand a more sentimental perspective, and to argue consideration and compromise alongside logic and progress.

When one first meets Avalon, they may find themselves enchanted by her looks and once engaged in conversation she does not disappoint. Avalon is a very pleasant person to talk to. She often seems very kind and sometimes even over-bearing in the interest she takes in others. This trait goes to her very core as she is always interested in what others have to say. If the Guardian Beast was in school she would most likely be the biggest gossiper ever known. The problem with this is, as with most gossipers, she can be a drama queen.

Avalon is very passionate about what she believes and when called into question she may try to act friendly but she quickly becomes defensive. Further, she begins to take what others say out of context and blow minor things out of proportion. When this happens she tends to become obsessed with finding resolution to the issue that has started and from this point she often instigates. In truth, her intentions are almost never benevolent. She doesn't want to find a middle ground, she wants to be right.

This causes other issues to come to the surface en masse. When Avalon finds herself in the defensive mindset she becomes steadily more cruel in her intentions. She begins to see the other person as an itch that must be scratched and if they do not submit it is similar to having a mosquito attacking relentlessly. She quickly loses all patience and seems to not be able to help being somewhat aggressive. Verbally this is only apparent with those who rub her the wrong way but physically her unstable nature can get the better of her. She strikes out before she thinks - like a 'refined' lady slapping a 'brute'.

Additionally, it becomes quickly clear that this woman is quite flirtatious. Another's sex is of no relevance, there are other things that attract her outgoing affections. Hair is in fact one of the biggest things. Avalon absolutely adores hair and the longer one's hair is, the more she tends to like it. On the contrary, she is absolutely sickened by baldness or a general lack of hair. For some odd reason she seems personally insulted when around someone without hair. It's as if they mock her glorious hair with their lack. As could be expected, she is also far more tolerant of those with hair and will let them get away with murder as opposed to her lack of patience for the baldies.

Beneath the surface, Avalon is actually quite the wicked soul. She has this off-putting paradox about her personality. It's as if she both loves and hates almost everyone. It could be called bi-polar to an extreme with a hint of the sadistic nature many warriors share. The more she likes someone, the more possessive she becomes. She wants to keep them close but she also wants to shred their bodies from off of their bones. She would rationalize this by saying she needs to test their love for her but in truth she just gets a thrill from making them suffer. In a sense, it's a form of emotional masochism. On the other hand, when Avalon does not like someone she simply wants nothing to do with them. She has no interest in fighting them, she just wants them gone. She actually gets rather stuck up when around people she doesn't like in a way. Race has no bearing on if she likes someone, it's all their personality and their hair. It is good to note though, even if they are one of the dreaded baldies, she always respects a good fight.

» History:

Far beyond the most distant memory of most guardian beasts alive today, the time when the Sugiuran World was still whole was a time when legends thrived and shaped the very society in which they lived, One such legend was of a pantheon in which a number of guardian beasts stood, held on a pedestal and revered as Gods. Whether or not they were classified as actual deities remains unknown and unclear, but it was a certainty that these beings existed, that their powers stood head and shoulders above the rest, and that they were worshipped by a large number of beasts and early sugiurans alike once the first of them appeared.

One of these deities was one worshipped as "The Beginning". The legend told of a woman who had been born to rule. Who had fought tooth and nail for her entire life, conquering land after land in glorious battles to expand her power and influence until she had claimed more battle victories than any other warrior in history. For this feat, she was awarded unimaginable power by the Gods themselves and offered a seat among them in Godhood. Thus, the Pantheon gained its first ever mortal who had ascended by her own merits into a Godly being.

Whether or not this guardian beast was actually like a God in terms of being or power was unclear, but what was certain is that she existed, and even as the myths and legends became more and more grandiose and overblown, the beast herself persisted within the Sugiuran World. It was a fact, not a myth, that she had been involved in the Tig-Ani war, and had gotten pulled along with the rest of the pantheon when the Sugiuran World was forcibly seperated from their multi-verse by the sugiurans.

This being was Avalon, and having been pulled wholly from her home, from her territory, and from her conquests put her in a very foul mood. This culminated in a rampage that cost thousands of lives. Avalon would travel from place to place, finding any area in which no guardian beasts were currently dwelling and destroying any sugiuran settlement within. For the most part, these "visits" resulted in a mass loss of life. However, the ones she remembered the most were the ones that got away. In particular, one village she attacked roughly three hundred and fourty years ago where she watched from the street as a sugiuran man carried a woman off into the forest, disappearing into the night before Avalon could even react.

After that, Avalon spent a period of time in waiting, gathering as much information as she could about the whereabouts of her fellow pantheon members. She managed to find hints and clues here and there, but nothing concrete. The information had to be somewhere, and Avalon had to find it. So, it seemed her solution had to be going back to the original plan, which was to keep blowing through whatever she saw until she found what she was looking for.

Re-opening her can of proverbial whoop-ass, Avalon targeted another village for the fall. She decided to strike at night, hoping the surprise alone would keep them from reacting fast enough for anyone to escape. Things started off optimistically. It seemed as if her surprise attack was gonna result in another complete wipeout.. That is, however, until she noticed the house on the edge of the forest. No survivors, she thought, her mind casting back to the couple that got away. She made a beeline for it, following the road up toward the two-story abode. As she neared, she noticed someone in the road. Avalon drew her sword, speeding up until the moment she stood in front of the person. And it was.. a little girl. Avalon looked down at the child, her green hair long and wild, her bright emerald eyes cast upward at the guardian beast. Avalon scoffed, raising her sword, intending to strike the child down before lighting the house ablaze. Suddenly, the child's eyes began to glow..

"Stop."

The word echoed from the child's lips, the small voice seeming to resonate through the very air itself as it traveled to Avalon's ears... and stopped the beast in her tracks. Her eyes widened, finding herself unable to move to strike this child. Avalon clenched her jaw, swinging downward at the child, but she found herself striking only the air next to the girl's head instead. Again, and again she tried.. Each time finding her strike diverting itself from a course that would damage the young sugiuran. Avalon yelled in frustration, holding her sword as she began to breathe heavily. Suddenly, the door to the house swung open, and a man stumbled out into the street. Avalon looked up, her eyes meeting his for one long moment.. when the child whispered.. her voice so low that only Avalon and herself would've known that she had spoken at all..

"Run."

Though her movement had returned, Avalon made a split second decision. She reached down and swept the child up in her arms, turning and bolting into the forest as fast as she could possibly move, vanishing from the man's sight in moments. They fled for miles, Avalon's high speed making the distance close rapidly as they approached somewhere that Avalon felt safe hiding out... the last village she had leveled.. the one where this child's father had escaped her last.

When they arrived, Avalon returned to one of the few houses that hadn't completely burnt down, setting the child down. She expected the girl to be hysterical, to be crying or begging to go home, or throwing some form of tantrum. However, this was not the case. The child was calm, collected, her face neutral as she and the beast locked eyes. She introduced herself to Avalon as Umeko Zhilan, and Avalon responded in kind with her name, and her legend. Umeko had commanded Avalon's presence in a way no other had. She had been the only one Avalon had ever faced who could stop her. For this, Avalon carried a massive amount of sudden respect for the girl. The two formed a partnership then and there, as Umeko told Avalon of the vision she had.. a perfectly functioning sugiura kingdom.. a ruling class run like clockwork.. the plan was intricate, and would take years, but they had time to plan, and adjust.. and despite Avalon's anger, she couldn't help but see the benefit in standing alongside someone who planned to ascend so high. Maybe, just maybe, this would be the fastest way to find her brethren.. and even if not.. Avalon could never resist the kind of glory that came with ruling a people, especially when those people worshipped you.

Umeko and Avalon lived in the deepest shadows of the Sugiuran Realm while they structured their moves. The first order of business was to get Umeko strong enough to face the challenges that came with trying to build a nation. Avalon's hundreds of centuries of battle experience as well as experience training veteran soldiers was applied in the teaching and training of Umeko herself. While Avalon's school was the blade, Umeko's latent abilities from their partnership as well as her natural skills as they developed made her own kit mroe suitable for use with hand-to-hand combat. So, Avalon taught Umeko the basics, and then taught the young sugiuran how to improvise and adapt. As the young girl grew in age and strength, the power of the bond between the sugiuran and the guardian beast grew exponentially as well. They learned to fight in total and complete unison, even when seperated. Avalon taught Umeko how to harness and control her psions, forging a Matul Ispiritu form in the process. This process of training and strengthening lasted over the course of two-hundred years, until both Umeko and Avalon had reached new heights of power that neither of them would've been capable of on their own.

As they had trained, they witnessed the birth and growth of the three kingdoms, as well as the separation of unpartnered guardian beasts into the southern region of Zha'til. Finally, it was time to put Umeko's plan into action. For roughly the next hundred years, Umeko began involving herself in a number of battles that would be some of the major conflicts that helped shape the sugiuran lands. She did this in complete secrecy by disguising both herself and Avalon in cloaks and masks, and using weapons borrowed from armories. Finally, after over three hundred years of being missing, Umeko and Avalon returned, telling the sugiurans of their plan to forge a kingdom that would be the strongest that the sugiurans had ever seen. One that would guarantee their home would never be threatened again. And thus began Avalon's journey as a knight to the Eastern Kingdom's monarch, one whom was loyal to a fault, and never let the queen out of her sight. One who was determined to follow Umeko until she had found those whom had been taken here with her.

V. Guardian Beast Abilities

» Flimkien Powers:

Frightening Natural Intelligence and Analytical Ability:
Avalon's greatest weapon is her prodigious mind, possessing a genius-level intellect. She is capable of devising and executing strategies with incredible speed and precision. As a child, and even to this day, she is a brilliant chess player, besting any opponent who plays against her. She can manipulate people and factions with well-spoken speeches and clever deceptions, easily ensnaring multitudes of people into her web. This is, in part, because she's a true master of divulging the strengths, weaknesses, and such of those around her. Including the kinds of things that people find endearing, and the kinds of things that set people off.

Tremendous Speed and Agility:
Avalon has always been more fond of fighting styles which involve attempting to deal quick, lethal blows at a rate that makes it hard to keep up to enough of a degree to defend against them all at once while still holding just enough strength within the strikes to be a force to be reckoned with. It is for this reason that Avalon has spend a good majority of her extensive lifetime pushing the limits of how fast her strikes and movement can really be. The guardian's base movements can be so fast that they could be perceived as flash step to the untrained eye, and her body is flexible enough to bend and twist in seemingly impossible positions to try and land a blow.

Legendary Sword Skill:
Avalon has had generations, eons even, to perfect her favorite and favored method of combat. She has studied every aspect and school of the blade. Anything from Kendo to Fencing, she has at least some knowledge of, and can replicate expertly in combat. It gets to the point where, even with large swords, Avalon can strike quickly and lethally, aiming for vital points and important areas as a priority, aiming to disable and kill quickly, instead of simply slicing and attacking blindly. Her precision and skill is terrifying to those who don't know the blade, and deadly to those who are weak to it.

Incredible Spiritual Output:
When not controlling or holding back the amount of spiritual energy that she puts out, Avalon's natural reiatsu is on a level that some might consider insane. Her spiritual output is.. enormous, to say the very least. It has become exceedingly difficult to find an opponent to face Avalon who wouldn't be, at the very least, sweating a little from the pressure of her full reiatsu. Weak opponents (Tier 2-1 or lower) wouldn't really be able to be near her at all when her spiritual pressure is brought to bear, as her sheer power is enough to send some to their knees, and even cause some to pass out, or otherwise lose some sort of cognitive thought from simply being around her at that point.

Indomitable Will:
Easily one of the most intimidating things about Avalon is her massive reserves of willpower and resolve. No matter the odds, no matter the danger, no matter the pain, Avalon has perfected the art of keeping her face straight and her mouth shut.. to the point where Avalon has developed a total immunity to mind, heart, or spirit controlling, influencing or altering effects as her willpower is so absolute that she literally will refuse being under the direction of anything but her own soul and the battle spirit that blazes within.

Samsāra (Sanskrit: संसार) (in Tibetan called 'khor ba (pronounced kɔrwɔ [IPA] in many Tibetan dialects), meaning "continuous flow"):
Avalon's favorite weapon, and her primary method of assault is her Samsara. The "Samsara" is a blade, roughly a meter or so in length. The style of the blade itself is much how one would picture the Royal and Regal blades of old to appear, with the blade's point in the dead-center, as opposed to curved like a traditional Japanese blade. At the base of the blade, it spikes slightly in both the left and right directions, creating a barb of sorts. On and below this is a twisted, branch-like pattern, atop an ornate design (the crest of Avalon's family). Below this is the Guard, which extends, much like the barbs, in both the left and right direction. The darker, grey steel has claw-like curves up and down the guard, each decorated with an ornate, almost Gaelic-type design. Next, the grip. The Guard is linked to the grip by another curled pattern, of a lighter coloration than the guard itself. The grip is, by all accounts, standard. Except, of course, for the chain-mesh pattern that adorns the entirety of it. At the base of the grip is an inverted flower-type attachment, with steel "petals" and a ruby in the center as the "stigma". This blade was custom-made for Avalon herself, eons ago, and is her favorite piece of weaponry in any universe. Though she has seen other weapons, her Samsara is still her favorite, by far. Beyond just LOOKING pretty, it also has a few.. special traits of its own that Avalon quite enjoys.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] AngelsSword_zps8591cc1d

  • Spiritual Makeup:
The essence of Samsara, the core, and the very design of it, is comprised entirely of spiritual particles, woven in and out and threaded and infused into a metal, combined with Sekiseki. The result of this is that Avalon's blade can fight on par with blades of a much higher strength from opponents who have vastly powerful weapons of their own. This also helps prevent Samsara from breaking, as the spiritual particles can compress and strengthen to harden the blade itself. Beyond this, it also allows Avalon to summon the blade at will, keeping the spiritual particles that make it up floating around her normally, until she has need of it, at which point they will all converge in her hand to make the blade itself. It can be summoned and un-summoned in this matter at any point.

  • Absolute Domination:
Much like a Shinigami's Zanpakutō, Avalon's Samsara is bound to her soul. However, it runs more deeply than a simple connection. Samsara is infused with his own, specific spiritual signature. When Samael touches the hilt of Samsara, his own spiritual energy is read by the blade, and the blade becomes operable. When Avalon ISN'T touching the blade, when it isn't her spiritual energy that is being detected or read, the blade becomes nigh unusable. Not only is Avalon able to break it apart or reform it at will anyway, but also, like the Mjolnir of legend, Avalon's blade becomes infinitely more heavy when she isn't touching it. Without Avalon's spiritual signature coursing into it, the Samsara will seemingly weigh billions of pounds to anyone who attempts to pick up, hold, or otherwise utilize this blade.

  • Absolute Constant Velocity:
Absolute Constant Velocity (or ACV for short) is a rather interesting power that isn't too commonly found. First of all, it requires motion in a swing from the sword to properly work. By charging her sword with an intense amount of reiatsu, the blade will begin to glow brightly and illuminate in a dark red colour. Following this, any motion or strike that Avalon does with the blade can slice through anything it touches, not being able to stop until the slash as reached it's end or Avalon has decided to stop mid-swing. This is a powerful technique utilized by few people, allowing them to slash through anything without meeting resistance at all. Slice through metal? Avalon's sword slash could go through it like it was nothing but air. The same goes for Seki-seki stone, the material that borders Seireitei as a defense mechanism. Although it needs to be noted that such attacks do not work so directly on weapons that are apart of someone; such as a Zanpakutō or spirit weapon. Any other weapon, this works with great effect, but a zanapakuto or something similar? It isn't likely to cut through it. Although this doesn't mean it won't be extremely damaging to the person behind it. Why would it be damaging? As they are stopping an, apparent, 'unstoppable force' it would be difficult to instant stop it by a simple block. To be struck by this sword technique in a block could very well launch you across the landscape and injure yourself by other means. On some cases, Avalon has shown to be able to slice Zanpakutō in half (with permission of the said character) as well as Quincy Spirit Weapons.

  • Drawbacks:
One of the major drawbacks to this ability has been covered, being that Avalon cannot always slice through an opponent's Zanpakutō (either fully or partially) on the first strike, only occasionally working as it is bound to their soul and considered a part of themselves. Not only this, but it becomes dangerous to Avalon in some other aspects as she might be able to slice up the environment unwillingly, causing an unstable structure for her to fight in. E.G, if she was fighting in a city; she might coincidentally slice open buildings whilst swinging her sword crazily, and end up burying herself in rubble from the buildings. Finally, to use such an ability she must sacrifice a portion of his defense; meaning that to use this unstoppable blade technique, it is needed that she pushes more energy into the blade, rather than her actual body. Which, for example, will leave her defenseless to say, a punch or a sword slash if she were to get hit, becoming much more injured that she normally would whilst this is active.

The Queen's Voice:
This is not a combat ability per se, so much as assistance for Umeko. As long as Avalon and Umeko have been bound, Avalon has never left Umeko's side as far as while in the Flimkien state. One can practically always see Avalon trailing behind Umeko by a very short distance, playing the role of knight and bodyguard as well as assistant in a way. Avalon doesn't begrudge this work, as one might think a Guardian Beast would, but cherishes it. Happy to be mistaken for the young girl's adviser as opposed to her Guardian Beast.

No one seems to really understand the relationship between Umeko and Avalon, or why a Guardian Beast with such a long history of violence would be content to aiding some brat in her endeavors, but this is the place in which Umeko and Avalon find themselves.

In the vein of this line of thinking, Avalon has developed the ability to project her voice over great distances, able to speak loud enough that the entire Eastern Kingdom would be sure to hear it. This is by and large used for announcements and the like, although it can be used as an early warning system, or a tactic to attempt to intimidate enemies or keep allies informed of goings-on in the battlefield as well.

Luminosite Eternelle [God is Here With Me (我が神はここにあり)]:
A sort of enchanted call to arms, this ability can be summoned at any time. Avalon will left her free hand, summoning within it a golden energy that will form into a large battle standard with a holy flag flying from the end of it. All Avalon has to do at this point to activate this ability is to then jam the flag into the ground, as if conquering the land in which she is fighting. When Avalon does this, an area covering roughly fifty yards in a radius from where the flag is sitting will be enveloped in a shining, golden glow.

Within this boundary field, anyone that Avalon would deem as an "ally" will gain a sudden increase in morale and strength, allowing them to keep fighting under even the most dire of circumstances. This boost to Avalon's allies scales in a way inversely proportional to the receiving character's tier as the stronger the ally is, the less effective this boost is. (Note: This ability is dependent on player permission, if the character's controller wishes for this aura to not effect their character, then it will not.)

While 0 tier characters find that only their morale is increased (a 1-level skill increase in Willpower up to Master), 1 tier characters might find that they would have a one-level skill increase in both Strength and Willpower (up to Master), as well as a one-tier boost (up to 1-1++). 2 tier characters would receive a two-level skill increase in Strength and Willpower (up to Master), as well as a two-tier boost (up to 1-4++). 3 tier characters would receive a three-level skill increase in Strength and Willpower (up to Master), as well as a three-tier boost (up to 2-3++). 4 tier and below will receive a three-level skill increase in Strength and Willpower (up to Master), as well as a four to six tier boost. (Up to 3-2++) This boost will only be active until the flag has been removed from the ground, or the battle has ended. (A/N: This boost does not affect Avalon personally or Umeko.)

There are drawbacks to the usage of this, though. While Avalon herself is the only one who can remove the flag from the ground once its placed, it can be tattered or even broken if an enemy were to attack the flag directly. This flag can take roughly two Gran Ray Ceros' fired by anyone at Espada level worth of energy/offensive strength to break. If hit with half of this amount of energy (cumulatively or all at once), the effectiveness of this boost will be halved. Once the full capacity for punishment has been reached, the flag will shatter, and the boost will fade.

If Avalon retrieves this flag of her own accord, she can resummon it at any time. However, the damage the flag has taken over the course of the fight will remain until the thread has ended, meaning that if she resummons it during the same battle, whatever effectiveness it has lost will still be lost. If the flag does shatter, Avalon will be unable to summon it again for the remainder of the battle.

La Pucelle [The Crimson Holy Virgin (紅蓮の聖女)]:
To use this technique, which is one of Avalon's most fearsome garnered from all of her generations of battle, Avalon will hold her blade out at her side before speaking what is thought to be a brief incantation or prayer. "O Lord, I entrust this body to you..."

Upon speaking these words, a golden fire will bloom from the end of Avalon's blade, engulfing the entirety of its length within moments. For five posts, Avalon's strikes gain a massive amount of Holy Energy augmenting them. This creates not only an intimidation factor for opponents who might be afraid of someone swinging a giant flaming sword at them, but it also increases her combat's effectiveness. The flames themselves don't burn outwardly like one would expect flames to, as they don't work like ordinary flames. These flames only activate upon coming into contact with a being that belongs to any race that is seen as unclean or unholy. Hollows, Arrancar, demons, and the like will all find that these flames will burn more than any bad day at the beach.

These flames, for those opponents who are weak to them, will cause about 38% more damage than Avalon's strike normally would have, drastically increasing the amount of damage that she can do during this time. However, it isn't a perfect offensive, as the flames will only add to the effectiveness of the strike if she actually strikes her opponent, leaving them plenty of chances to block, dodge, or otherwise avoid these damning flames.

To try and circumvent this weakness, Avalon possesses the ability to release the flames from the blade in an arcing blast of holy fire akin to a Cero. While this adds to Avalon's range with this fire, it is still an ability that can be dodged or blocked. As an added weakness to utilizing the flames this way, Avalon's remaining post duration for this ability's usage will automatically expire and require cooldown if she releases the flames from the blade. Once Avalon has jettisoned her flames, or the five post time limit has expired, Avalon must wait a full five posts before she can attempt to use these flames again.

The Albigensian Armada:
Avalon can, in combat, and when in dire need, call to her aid the spirits of those warriors whom she has felled in battle with blade. They are one of the reasons she was able to conquer so much, so easily, so quickly. Avalon has an army of exactly one-hundred soldiers that she can command to her side, despite the fact that the number of beings she has felled in combat is closer to the tens of millions over the course of her very long lifetime.. In total, there are:

  • 25 Foot Soldiers at tier 3-1- (Equipment: Sword, Shield, Light Body Armor)
  • 25 Horseback Soldiers at tier 3-2- (Equipment: Spear, Shield)
  • 25 Archers at tier 2-5-- (Equipment: Bow, 200 Arrows each)
  • 25 Berserkers at tier 3-3+ (Equipment: Twin Swords, Bomb [Cero strength, will detonate before death.])

These function as Beginner in all general skills with the exception of one Adept in a different skill for each class. Foot Soldiers have their Adept in Durability, Horseback Soldiers have theirs in Strength, Archers have theirs in Weapon Skill, and Berserkers have theirs in General Speed.

» Matul Ispiritu Appearance:

When broken down into Eidos and reforged into a metaphysical state, Avalon takes the appearance of an aura around Umeko, similar to her spiritual pressure, but surrounding her entire being and even lifting her hair to signify that this was a force all its own. The only other outward indicator of this form, so to speak, is that if one were to look into Umeko's eyes.. they would absolutely see the flame of Avalon's battle spirit burning behind them in a shimmering gold. Occasionally, while Umeko is fighting and using her abilities in this form, one might see a ghostly shadow of Avalon in an afterimage trailing Umeko's movements. The true trick of this form is that the whole of Avalon's power is held within this Aura, as if she were standin gin the exact same place as Umeko, moving as she does. This creates a truly symbiotic Matul Ispiritu between Umeko and Avalon as they fight with one-hundred percent resonance, creating a terrifying combination of deadly forces as the massive natural speed of both as well as the swift, direct killing blows that she will typically aim for make her a force to be reckoned with no matter how you slice it. Because of this, it might seem like Avalon doesn't do much in this form, when in reality it is simply that Umeko, and this aura around her, are the conduit through which both of their abilities are used in this form.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] Tumblr_nz42lyscT71spiusno1_500_zpsgi11zm67

» Matul Ispiritu Powers:

Grand Observer:
This passive ability is one that is contained within a ten yard radius around Umeko and Avalon's persons, and one that wouldn't be immediately obvious to anyone as it doesn't give off its own energy signature or "brand" so to speak. The only way to see that this ability is in use, essentially, is if one had an ability, skill, or vision modification that allowed them to see or sense the flow of reishi and reiatsu.

In essence, this is a constant drain effect on the reishi that makes up the environment around them as well as the ambient reiatsu in the area. Note that this cannot drain reiatsu of opponents, or drain the effectiveness of techniques of opponents. Unlike Quincy, who can sometimes drain energy from their opponents directly, Avalon's 'Grand Observer' is limited to ambient reiatsu and reishi. This provides an immediate limiter as the amount of energy she can consistently drain is dependent on the amount available in the area. Ergo, fighting in the human world would provide a far smaller amount of ambient energy to pull from than, say, the Soul Society, where reishi makes up a good amount of the materials that the entirety of the Seireitei is composed of.

With this energy, Avalon can replenish Umeko's reserves, essentially allowing for the sugiura to fight for much, much longer periods of time than her abilities would normally permit her to. While Umeko can still tire physically, she could feasibly never run out of energy if her and Avalon were simply standing in one place with Avalon having an infinite supply of energy to draw from.

One of the main drawbacks of this is that Avalon cannot replenish her own energy reserves with this drain. It can only be applied to Umeko's pool of reiatsu to pull from. Because of this, despite the fact that this ability doesn't consume energy itself, if Avalon runs out of energy, leaves the Matul Ispiritu form, or is incapacitated for whatever reason the drain will stop, and the replenishing of Umeko's energy reserves will also immediately halt. Another drawback to this is that Avalon is limited also, as previously stated, by the amount of ambient reiatsu and reishi in the environment. If she runs out of reiatsu and reishi to channel into this, the drain and the renewal effects will both stop. The final drawback to this ability is that Umeko's abilities require a lot of energy in this form, and there is the possibility that Umeko might use her reserves faster than Avalon can replenish them, potentially causing problems for the sugiura since she might find herself reaching exhaustive levels.

Tactical Retreat:
Within the barrier that surrounds Umeko, Avalon can induce a refraction effect that renders Umeko entirely invisible. To observers, it would appear as if her body would simply fade into the image of a ghostly apparition of herself, before blowing away with the wind. In this state, those who are a master of detecting spiritual energy will still be able to sense where she is, as she is not hidden from sensory perception to this degree, mostly just from sight. For those who aren't proficient in the field of sensing energies, though, Umeko will be completely hidden. If it is her first time stealthing for the thread, Umeko may do so with only a moment to think. However, once she exits stealth after having entered it, it takes a full post of not being attacked for her to be able to enter stealth again. The catch to this is that if Umeko takes any offensive action, she will be revealed from stealth at the moment of that action's completion. This makes this ability dangerous to try to use against opponents whom she cannot finish off quickly. This is another one of the many techniques that Umeko uses to try and compensate for her lack of physical strength. She can maintain this stealth for up to two posts if she isn't detected.

Progenitor's Strike:
The primary advantage of Avalon's presence in this form is that she can provide "backup" to Umeko's strikes with either her sacred, her hand-to-hand, or with bladed combat. No matter what weapon Umeko is using, Avalon will move in synchronization with Umeko's own person, albeit delayed by only the smallest of moments, to where one might not even notice the time in between the strikes if they were not extremely perceptive of such things.

Essentially, for every strike Umeko makes, a shadow of that strike will follow it, copying its every attribute to the last with the only true difference being the delay in impact. To those with lower levels of perception, or low levels of focus, they wouldn't even be able to register the blow as two hits, instead feeling it as one blow that would collide with a strength far more amplified than Umeko's normal striking power. More than anything, this is to compensate for both Umeko's and Avalon's lack of distinct physical strength, as both warriors focus on speed and precision.

Another usage for this that Avalon will utilize is that if Umeko's initial strike is blocked, or misses, Avalon can change the direction of her strike, adding a layer of unpredictability to her and Umeko's combat when in this form. When attacking separately from Umeko, Avalon's strikes will be far more visible, as they will deviate from the path that Umeko's took. This holds two drawbacks. The first is the threat of exposing the secret behind this technique if the opponent was not perceptive enough to pick up on it beforehand, and the second is the fact that this is a strike much like any other, and can also be dodged or blocked.

Clandestine Achievement:
A sort of "autonomous" seeming attack, one might think, from the way that it is executed, this ability is actually the culmination of Avalon's power while in this form being tasked to aid Umeko in striving for greater heights and glory. Essentially, Avalon has the ability to strike outward with her sword from anywhere on Umeko's body, the limb and blade seeming to materialize out of the green energy that surrounds Umeko in this form. This creates another attack to add in to a combo Umeko is executing, or creates a defense against something incoming that Umeko might not have seen.

As an example, say that Umeko had blocked a weapon with her sacred, and her hands were full. Avalon could then generate the Samsara from Umeko's stomach region, slashing upward to try and either cut the opponent viciously or, at the very least, try and get them to back off and give Umeko some breathing room. This ability is one of the reasons that Avalon and Umeko's synchronization is so terrifying, because so long as a being isn't obscured by any sort of vision or sensory-clouding type ability, Avalon can usually spot them to attempt to block an attack or attack an enemy, regardless of the angle at which they're approaching Umeko.

The primary drawback to this is that this attack only holds as much strength or defense as that arm of Avalon's would, normally. If someone were to attack with force that outweighed Avalon's ability to defend, the defense would fail. If Avalon's attack would not be strong enough to wound the opponent, the attack would fail. And so on. As an additional drawback, each time Avalon attacks or defends, she is taking a risk. Whenever Avalon strikes out in this method, the opponent gains the opportunity to counter this ability by striking at the ethereal arm that Avalon projects through this ability. If they manage to strike it, it will be "lobbed off" so to speak, and Avalon will be unable to use this ability unless given cooldown time for recovery in the Flimkien state. (A/N: 2 posts of cooldown required. This arm that is created cannot be "shadowed" by Avalon's 'Progenitor's Strike' technique.)

VI. Sugiura Abilities & Equipment

» Natural Abilities:

Shocking Spiritual Pressure:
As one who has lived and trained for hundreds of years, as well as one who has gained a long list of accomplishments for her kingdom, Umeko's spiritual pressure is quite impressive indeed. It takes the appearance, when materialized, of flames around her body. White hot despite their acidic green appearance, and burning brighter with every new reason she gains for fighting her opponent. Her spiritual pressure is enough to where she needs to control herself in battle if those below 2-1 are around, as she's been known to cause some breathing trouble in those around her.

Master Strategist & Tactician:
With a history of being tasked to head expeditions, Umeko has shown herself to be a capable leader. Repeatedly, Umeko has shown to be insightful and crafty, quickly capable of understanding any situation that presents itself and adjust to it effectively. Umeko has shown an innate skill to determine what actions should be taken in battle. The tactics she employs are based on subterfuge and confusion. She has shown to be adept in putting her opponents into a false sense of security and allowing them to underestimate her abilities. A common tactic of hers is to gauge the opponent's strengths and weaknesses in the middle of combat.

Pinnacle Speed and Agility:
Umeko, much like her Guardian Beast, has put more of a focus on her speed as opposed to any other natural skill. She is proficient with not only natural movement, but also high-speed movement through her own variety she calls Kunshu, comparable to a Quincy's Hirenkyaku. She is more than proficient enough to keep up with some of the fastest people one might find in the world, although obviously not at their peak, as she has pushed herself to where her speed capabilities are at the very maximum of what is possible for a sugiura of her age and level of strength. Umeko's martial arts mastery, reflexes, and experience allow her to use her highly trained mind, and body, to combat on and off the ground from almost any direction at one time. Her body can bend almost impossible ways, and Umeko knows how to effectively use her own body as a weapon, not just utilizing her hands and feet for her close-quarters combat.

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant:
Umekon is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat, which she had been training in ever since she first started her combat training at a very young age. She is most likely one of the most proficient hand-to-hand combatants in all of the Eastern Kingdom, being able to fight evenly, and gain the upper hand, against her combat tutors with ease. She can sufficiently block and attack others, even if they're using their own weaponry against him. She has been seen blocking weapons, techniques, and even large-scale power moves with her bare hands. Additionally, it has proven difficult to actively lay a hand on her unless she allows it, as she is quickly able to counter with a mixture of centuries of martial arts experience, and abnormally fast reflexes. Umeko utilizes her speed in combat to make up for the absence of great physical strength, adapting a flowing, more dance-like and agile style to defeat her opponents, using their weight against them instead of trying to go for power strikes.

  • Jegudiel Stance; Heaven's Gate:
A powerful and solid punch, using the Square Fist shape, to the center of the chest half way mark on the breast bone. This is also know as the re-vibrating technique or life thief. The most similar comparison to this technique in other styles is the Single Bone technique of the shinigami. This punch is intended to be delivered with the entirety of Umeko's strength behind it, and is powerful enough to cause major internal damage to any opponent who lacks the defense and preparation to defend against it or avoid it.

  • Raphael Stance; Traitor's Dagger:
An underhanded and often looked-down-upon move, this is a direct jab with the nails of the index and ring finger directly for the jugular vein from behind the opponent, aiming to cause massive bleeding if not more serious conditions. This move is executed from behind, and never from in front of the opponent, as it is meant to signify a betrayal or assassination with its execution. It is by no means an honorable move, but it is an effective and possibly lethal one.

  • Michael Stance; Warrior's Way:
This technique is a combo, usually used after creating an opening, or on a weakened opponent. With speed and precision, Umeko will drive three punches to her enemy in the following order. The "game" punch, delivered to the solar plexus, the "set" punch, delivered just a step higher, to the center of the ribcage, and the "match" punch, delivered directly to the opponent's nose in an up-and-forward motion, aiming to break the nose and even cause brain damage, on top of the possibility of being winded or having internal bleeding or broken ribs from the other two punches.

  • Gabriel Stance; Eternity's Light:
This attack starts with Umeko thrusting at her opponent with either arm in a knife-hand method, fingers first, directly to a vital organ or pressure point. Once her fingers make contact, Umeko will then close her fist and shove it forward into the spot with a violent burst of strength and energy. This attack is strong enough, if connected, to completely rupture and shred internal organs up to and including the brain if the opponent does not defend against or block this attack.

  • Selaphiel Stance; Guardian's Gift:
This attack is actually a series of attacks so quick that to an outsider, it would look like only four punches, when in reality it is a combined total of seventy-two. While each individual punch is weaker than her normal blows, the sheer speed and number of these punches can leave an opponent easily dazed, confused, and injured. Once Umeko gets within her opponent's guard, she will unleash the strikes in the following order: The first set of eighteen strikes will be a series of quick jabs to the ribs and stomach, the second set of eighteen strikes will be another quick set of jabs to the upper arms and upper chest, the third set of eighteen strikes is delivered back down to the stomach, but including the groin, the next seventeen strikes will be delivered to the upper chest, jaw, and throat, before the final strike is thrown as a powerful right hook directly for the side of the skull. From an outsider's perspective (unless they have the ability to detect things moving at this level of speed), this will seem as if she threw a punch to the ribs, stomach, right arm, and then the right hook. It is easy to dodge or block, but the sheer number of punches makes it difficult to avoid all of them, as Umeko is more than capable of keeping herself up with an opponent to continue her assault of they attempt to simply run.

  • Uriel Stance; Paladin's Flight:
This technique starts first and foremost as a counter. If an opponent throws a high punch, or strikes toward her head, Umeko will perform a series of actions. The first is blocking the blow with her upper arm. At the exact same time as this, the other arm will move inward, punching at the opponent's jaw. Immediately afterward, the arm that blocked will swing in a hard punch from the other direction, also to the jaw, strong enough to easily dislocate or shatter it. Finally, Umeko will pull her arms back and swiftly push both palms forward directly for her opponent's chest. This finale is strong enough to launch an opponent distances of miles if the combo is finished. The exact maximum distance is yet unknown, but the combination is hard to complete if Umeko is facing highly perceptive combatants.

  • Barachiel Stance; Judgement's Desire
This move starts off as what seems like a quick evasion or set-up for a sweep or kick, but the reality hides a much more dangerous secret. Leaning her weight toward an opponent, Umeko will switch her stance suddenly and move into an instant crouching-stance, as if to sweep toward her opponent, but as her leg comes around, it won't go for the sweep as her opponent might predict, but instead come inside of her opponent's guard and end up on the opposite side of Umeko from where it was as her stance will have switched again. After this, Umeko will push against the ground beneath her, hard, driving both fists directly up into her opponent's torso with enough force to completely shatter and break apart some opponents from the inside out, causing their whole body to simultaneously break down if they are a weak opponent, and causing insane amounts of internal trauma and bone/organ damage to any other opponent not at her level or higher. This attack might seem random at first, but if an opponent can predict the final blow and dodge it or defend against it, they might be able to avoid the massive amounts of damage that this attack is intended to cause.

  • Lucifer Stance; Torment's Whip:
A sinister strike that contains a fusion of sugiura magic, Umeko's own spiritual energy, her origin, and martial technique.. and combine them into a strike that is meant solely as a tool for deterring other Sugiurans from battling with her. Essentially, Umeko will assume a stance with her right palm flat and facing up. Once she has identified the location of the Resonance Marker on her opponent, she will then attempt to quickly strike it by turning her palm over and snapping her finger against the spot in a snake-like jabbing strike.

If she manages to hit the mark dead on, it will temporarily disrupt the connection between the Sugiuran and their Guardian Beast, causing effects as minor as their synchronicity being thrown off or as major as them being unable to enter either their Matul Ispritu or Maxima Sindicat forms for the duration of the thread. This can also include the inability to use Resonance abilities, and a loss of ability to communicate between the two apart from verbally while in the Flimkien state.

The full extent of how this will effect an opponent depends greatly on how strong the opponent's connection with their guardian beast. Those with a Grand Master in their Resonancy skill will find themselves unaffected by this. Those with a Master will find that they might be experiencing some issues synchronizing with their Guardian Beast. Advanced will additionally feel the inability to use Resonance Abilities and will lose access to the Matul Ispritu form and, if possessed, the Maxima Sindicat form. Adept or lower will no longer be able to communicate with their Guardian Beast telepathically on top of all this, and will have to speak with them verbally if they even speak the same native tongue.

Apart from the fact that those with high levels of Resonance are effected less by this technique, another drawback of it comes via the fact that Umeko has to be able to identify the location of the opponent's Resonance Marker to use this ability in the first place. If she guesses at where it is, and misses, or strikes an area that isn't the right target, she will be unable to use this technique for the remainder of the thread. So, if the opponent has a resonance marker that is somewhere covered, or out of the way, they need not necessarily worry about this technique. Beyond that, one could easily dodge, or block this strike, and create the same condition for Umeko in which she is unable to use this technique against them again.

Poison/Stun/Psychic Resistance:
Part of Umeko's origin of "Authority" is that she has an absolute authority over her own being. This means that Umeko boasts a complete physical, mental, and spiritual immunity to techniques or attacks that would otherwise stun or paralyze her by using this origin's command to override the effect. Beyond this, it also creates an unbreakable willpower for the girl, as her mind and spirit cannot be tampered or controlled with by even the most sinister of spells or abilities. Beyond this, Umeko also trained her body by ingesting trace amounts of a large variety of poisons on an almost daily basis. This was done by taking just enough so that it was under the threshhold for what is deadly for someone of Umeko's height and weight, and continuing to do so until her body had built a resistance to any poison or intoxicant, meaning that Umeko is also resistant to the effects of drugs and alcohol.

Optimization Matrix:
Umeko possesses a trait that allows her to look at the world around her and see how things could be coordinated to work to the maximum productivity output possible with the elements that exist in the space. This means that she can take a workshop, art space, factory, or what have you and rearrange the things used and the times and ways they're used with the manpower available to produce the maximum amount of output at the maximum speed possible. This applies only to areas that have been crafted especially for the creation or production of things, as well as areas in which people are in charge or the numbers a place outputs are dependent on changeable factors.. so places such as kingdoms, production lines, and construction sites would be optimizable. Even sporting events could theoretically be optomizeable as every game from chess to football has a theoried "perfect strategy" that will always result in victory. The only place that this ability isn't at all applicable is in battle, as things such as the opponent's unpredictability, "luck", and other unchangeable and unaccountable factors make Umeko's "visions" of the most productive outcome cloudy and unreliable.

Soul Ceremony:
Umeko can summon a seemingly infinite number of ethereal beings that cannot interact with, touch, or in any way communicate with, any living being be they physical or spiritual. These humanoid formations of energy can only interact with inanimate objects, and are a sort of silent "army" that Umeko commands to care for things while she is away as well as tend to her every need while she is at home. No one knows for sure what these mysterious beings are, but they have no way to harm anyone. The only 'ability' they could be said to possess is a very light amount of telekinetic ability, crudely granted to them by Umeko herself. This allows them to call cleaning supplies or other small objects to themselves, but cannot be used in any way other than to pull objects toward them. It is noted that Umeko can speak with these creations, but whatever sounds or signals they use to communicate back can only be interpreted by Umeko herself. However, it is generally understood that these are very simple constructs, and will not typically communicate even with Umeko due to their lack of distinct vocabulary unless they are informing her of a problem with one of her orders.

Monarch's Command:
This ability is one that expands from Umeko's origin to use specifically on abilities that her enemies possess that are used offensively against her. This is one that is meant more for stopping singular strikes that would cause massive damage as opposed to defending against large floods of multitudes of attacks. In short, as an ability travels in Umeko's direction, Umeko's voice will be enchanted with a sort of barrier that expands outward as she speaks. Whatever she says next will "command" this attack to halt roughly ten yards in front of the woman, either halting completely or immediately detonating if the attack was meant to be one that would explode after a certain amount of time as opposed to on contact.

This field can be expanded and used on up to ten projectiles at one time, up to the power of a cero released by an arrancar around her level. Any projectiles stronger than that, the amount she can stop is lessened to five. Cero Oscuras strength abilities or higher by opponents of this strength can only be stopped one at a time, and abilities around that strength or higher (or in higher quantity) used by an enemy stronger than Umeko can not be stopped by this ability. Umeko can use this only five times per thread.

Truth in Her Words:
This ability is one that comes directly from the very essence of Umeko's origin. The primary authority that the woman possesses lies in the existence of this ability which allows for Umeko to exhibit a true command over any given situation by stating plainly and clearly what is true. This takes the form of an energy that will spread over what is deemed as the "battlefield", taking stock of the possibilities and potential outcomes within that space, as well as what could and could not exist within this boundary.

Once this analysis is complete, Umeko gains the ability to alter the way things are within this boundary by stating something deemed as a "truth" which then becomes law within the world. For instance, if there were an open box in the room, Umeko could feasibly say "The truth is that this box cannot be opened once closed". The box will, from that point until the end of the thread, not open if Umeko or someone else were to close it regardless of effort from those who might attempt to do so as one cannot simply overpower this magic. One can, however, outsmart it.

Once Umeko has stated a "truth", anyone else within the boundary gains the ability to then state a counter-"truth". For instance, someone could then say. "The truth is that the box was never closed to begin with". At this point, the magic within this origin will re-write the situation, so to speak, to where the lid of the box will not be entirely closed, as if it never was. There will always be loopholes such as this within Umeko's wording, one simply has to find them.

The biggest drawback to this for Umeko is that she cannot affect living things using this ability. be they others or herself. Beyond this, this ability cannot affect abilities used by the opponent if they contain the opponent's spiritual energy, nor can it be used on their weaponry if it is such that it is bound to their soul. Umeko has five "truths" that she can use per thread to start. However, if someone contests a truth as she speaks it, she gains the ability to use a "follow-up truth", of which she can use up to five more for each starting "truth" she uses.

There is no immediately obvious sign once Umeko has used a "truth" that one would have the ability to counter what she had said. Part of the way that Umeko counters the glaring weaknesses in this technique is by not making it common knowledge that her opponents can contest what she says. However, opponents who are highly deductive might test doing so if only on principle, and those close to her as well as those who have battled her before will know of this loophole.

Queen of Beasts:
The primary reason for the fame, following, and respect that Umeko has gathered in her many years working for and with her fellow sugiurans is through this very unique ability that allowed her to cause shock and awe in her wake even from a young age. Umeko has the ability, thanks to the Authority she commands due to her origin, to calm, subjugate, or otherwise bend the will of Guardian Beasts depending on their level of stubbornness. This is one of the primary deterrents Umeko uses for those sugiurans whom might want to pick a fight with her, but it also functions as one of the ways she has kept so many safe for so long, as well as the way she can contain and feasibly utilize the kind of power that such an ancient and legendary Guardian Beast is expected to have.

This is something that Umeko has been working on for centuries as, even when she was young, she had a talent for stopping Guardian Beasts in their tracks. Even now, she will be taken to places where Guardian Beasts run wild, and used to help retrieve any number for use in ensuring stronger, more stable partnerships between sugiurans and their Guardian Beasts. While no one knows whether it really is an ability, or if Umeko just understands Guardian Beasts on a fundamental level some others do not, it is undeniable the fact that it is effective. So long as the Guardian Beast is either separated from a sugiuran entirely or in its Flimkien or Matul Ispiritu state, Umeko's voice can reach its 'ears'. When Umeko begins to speak directly to the Guardian Beast, they will begin to feel calm, less willing to fight, more open to simply walking away. Even the mightiest and most obstinate of Guardian Beasts can become approachable and more on the submissive side when this ability is used as the aura she will give off to them is almost a motherly sort of feeling.

(A/N: PC Guardian Beasts will not automatically be effected by this ability. It becomes a will save against the Sugiuran [not the Guardian Beast] wherein if their Willpower is at Master or lower, they will be unable to completely overpower Umeko's 'voice' with their own will. This will, over the course of one post of Umeko's coaxing, reduce the combat efficiency of the Guardian Beast when said beast is not combined into one with the sugiuran in the Maxima Sindicat state as the beast will not want to hurt Umeko. 10% for Master Willpower, 15% for Advanced, 25% for Adept, and 50% for Beginner. PC Beasts can only ever be 'calmed', while NPC Beasts can be commanded to leave, attack an opponent on behalf of Umeko, or any number of other things. A good example of the usage of this is in Umeko's history.)

VI. Sugiura Abilities and Equipment Part Two

» Resonating Signal:

Judge and Jury:
Umeko has shown a large amount of natural skill toward telekinesis through her Resonating Signal. Via a bright green glow in her eyes, Umeko can effortlessly lift many tons of mass worth of material without even touching it. To clarify, this telekinetic skill cannot be used on living things (with the exception of animals) but instead only inanimate objects that were not created by the opponent's spiritual energy or abilities. This includes buildings, foliage, rock, military equipment like tanks, et cetera. She is capable of effortlessly lifting hundreds of large boulders and stopping an orbital bombardment should the need arise. She effortlessly pulled a giant meteorite that was passing by Earth from space to defeat an Adjuchas. The maximum amount of mass she can control at one time would probably be around the size of an asteroid roughly that of the one that eliminated the dinosaurs.

She also uses her psychokinesis to float and fly, not to mention that she can also launch herself at high speeds that form thick trails in the sky whenever she goes. Umeko has also been able to control technology with this ability to a limited amount, able to project her image as if she's being viewed by a camera onto tv screens as well as turn things like cars and game systems on and off with her mind or with gestures. Using this for prolonged periods of time, however, leaves her incredibly drained, even with her considerable reserves of spiritual energy.

Executioner:
Umeko has the ability to super-condense this psychokinetic force into a piercing beam of electrical energy, firing it at three times the speed of sound by forming parallel currents on both sides of her arms. This attack has a muzzle velocity of 1030 m/s (2307.2 mph), and can be fired at a rate of 8 shots per minute, but that is the total amount of shots of this she has available to her per thread before she can no longer use this ability, or any of her psychokinetic force at all. She can use more than one of these at once to create sort of a "shotgun" effect, but if she does this, her usage of this ability will lessen by 2 uses for every 1 blast added to the multi-attack. (For instance if she used three bursts in this shotgun-type beam, it would be a total of six uses, meaning she would only have two left for the thread.)

Soaring Strike:
This technique channels a large amount of Umeko's psychokinetic into either or both of her hands, fusing it with the static electricity into the air to essentially "spark" it, turning the reiatsu she channels this way into pure, compressed lightning (of the same voltage as that which courses through her body). The high concentration of electricity produces a sound reminiscent of many birds chirping. Once the technique is completed, Umeko charges forward and thrusts this electricity toward the target. If a direct hit is made, this attack has enough raw power, reiatsu, and strength behind it to mean the end for any of a low two-tier or below (with creator permission in the case of a two-tier or below) if they were to suffer that infamous direct hit from her. This technique is classified as an assassination technique because of the speed at which it is performed, despite the loud noise it produces. However, if Umeko wishes, this can also be used to simply give the opponent a large electrical shock without impaling them. This technique has a major drawback, however. The speed at which the attack must be done, combined with the fact that Umeko must keep her focus on the opponent while using this, causes a tunnel vision-like effect for Umeko. This allows the enemy to possibly produce a counter for the attack, seemingly making it a potentially lethal move for Umeko to use. Beyond this standard usage of this attack, Umeko has several varients and additions that she can call upon to build on top of this.

  • Current:
An electrical discharge flows from the Umeko's entire body roughly twenty meters in all directions allowing her to affect multiple enemies if she is surrounded. When using this attack on a great number of enemies at once, it can effectively double as an instant defense. On extraordinarily weak opponents (3-tier or below), the body of the person touched by the Current could misinterpret the lightning nature as "electrical signals from the nerves", making its muscles contract. This causes the body to involuntarily go stiff, while at the same time receiving damage. (If the opponent is unable to dodge, the result will end up being a will-save, as if their pain endurance and willpower are high enough to resist the muscle contraction, they can prevent their body from seizing up.) This attack can also be strengthened three times per thread to increase the range of the attack to fifty meters, although if this is done, the retrofeed of muscles is removed, and only the damage from the electricity itself remains.

  • Thousand-Pronged Soaring Strike:
This variation is essentially a shape transformation, but definitely a potent one. In comparison to the standard Soaring Strike, it further specialises in speed, by being transformed into countless sharp senbon, which are all aimed and fired at the enemy. By increasing the amount of reiatsu used, the number of senbon also increases proportionally. (from five hundred at the lowest to a grand total of two thousand at the highest amount that Umeko can funnel into it).

  • Soaring Spear:
This technique uses shape transformation to form the original Soaring Strike into a spear or blade-shape, adapting it for mid-range attacks with a maximum range of about five metres. Its increased range means there is less of a risk to Umeko. It also has the advantage of being able to be used for surprise attacks and capturing. When the enemy's body is pierced, Umeko can alter the spear's shape into multiple additional blades, increasing the number of wounds. The blade can also be swung in order to cut things as well as cause fatal injuries if the opponent is not careful to in some way block or dodge, or otherwise does not have a defense against this move.

  • Soaring Dragon Strike [Event Only]:
This is an extremely powerful, one-shot, lightning technique created by Umeko channeling her Psychokinetic energy. She draws natural lightning directly from thunder clouds to supplement the power of her strike and controls it with reiatsu. Unlike most techniques, which are based on the user's reiatsu, this one uses the natural lightning, which reaches the ground in 1/1000th of a second and has the potential to strike the opponent with three times the force of your average Cero Oscuras. However, the preparation time required also decreases the technique's efficiency. If there are no active thunder clouds, Umeko must create them by channeling the energy into the very air, an extremely draining task. Once a lightning source has been acquired, shaping and guiding the lightning to the target requires very little reiatsu. In addition, usage seems to disperse the thunder clouds as the sky cleared up of clouds after use. As such, this technique can only be used once in a fight. The technique can completely obliterate a small mountain.

» Matul Ispiritu Gifted Abilities

Physical Reinforcement:
Umeko has a number of ways that she can use Avalon's presence around her to reinforce her body. While she can't increase her durability, or augment her otherwise average strength, there are two distinct things that she can do with this. The first is that she can augment her skin when she falls from great heights, absorbing the impact of the fall no matter what the distance by pushing back against the ground with an equal force just before impact, and absorbing the aftershock. This can only be used to negate damage from large falls or object collisions, and cannot be used to absorb the impact of blows from opponents. The other usage that Umeko has for this is the aformentioned boost to her incredible speed and reflexes by adding Avalon's own behind it as a "booster" of sorts. This allows her to reach new heights of speed than previously attainable even with her being a specialist in this field.

The Black Hand:
Using the aura around her, Umeko can channel her spiritual energy through the same sort of ghostly energy that she disappears behind when utilizing Avalon's tactical retreat for a number of uses in this form.

The first is to augment her hand-to-hand, allowing her to add a burst of kinetic energy behind each of her strikes that carries enough force to stun or seriously disorient any opponent at or below tier 2-1, and completely incapacitate (with controller permission) characters at or below tier 3-1. For opponents at, around, or not that quite far below, Umeko's level though, this will simply add to the damage the strikes can do, augmenting each strike's strength by about 1.87x. This might not seem like much, but when coupled with Umeko's incredible speed and martial skill, it can spell serious danger for those not equipped to keep up. This boost has a consistent drain on Umeko's spiritual energy, but it's negligible with the amount of energy typically held by the girl.

The second is that she can unleash this energy upward in a burst from a non-living surface if she drives her fist or weapon into that surface. This energy will erupt upward in a radius of about five feet outward from the impact point, and about ten feet outward from the impact surface. This is meant moreso as a way to catch fleeing opponents with part of this cero-strength strike if her initial strike misses them and manages to impact with something else. However, opponents fast enough to get out of the blast zone before the impact need not worry about this, and those with durability enough to withstand the blast would not have much trouble with it.

The third, and final usage of this weapon is that Umeko can create a ghostly shadow of Avalon's blade, the Samsara. This does not have the traits or abilities that Avalon's does, and Umeko does not wield it as proficiently, but it can be extremely useful when used in tandem with her speed and her assassination-style combat method. Given that she knows the locations of every artery, major organ, tendon, and nerve in the body, she can use this with deadly precision to try and quickly disable or eliminate an opponent before the battle can even begin.

La Montre:
Another ghostly weapon that Umeko can command in this form is the shadow of a longbow with ornate runes carved into the apparent wooden material it was made out of. Much like a quincy, Umeko can draw arrows made of reishi with this bow and fire them great distances. While her aim is not as good as an archer who specializes with a bow and arrow at distance, when she is within roughly a hundred yards of her opponent she can strike with pinpoint accuracy and surprising speed.

She only has five of these arrows that she can access per thread, and the reason for this is because of how deadly accurate she is with them, and the surprising strength behind them. The trick to these arrows is that they carry Avalon's ACV ability attributed to her Samsara. This means that even if blocked, the arrows will continue on their course with the same amount of force and speed, potentially piercing a good number of defenses and striking the opponent despite their attempts to block. However, that does not mean they cannot be dodged, and materials strong enough to resist ACV normally will typically also be able to completely block these arrows, in which case they will simply detonate harmlessly.

The Guillotine:
Utilizing a mixture of her own personal steps technique, and either her sacred, her fists, or her ghostly clone of Samsara, Umeko can execute a special ability which she can use up to twice per thread. Using this, Umeko will make a motion with her weapon. From Umeko, a projection of Avalon will travel forward in a burst, cloaked in the same refraction effect granted by Tactical Retreat. This projection will use a burst of high-speed movement to almost instantaneously travel to the opponent, striking with the same motion that Umeko made, whatever it might've been.

This projection, like Umeko when cloaked, can only be sensed by those who are masters of spiritual detection. However, if one is lucky, fast, or happened to already be in motion, they'd have a chance of dodging this technique. Those who can sense the projection can block this technique, as the attacks are purely physical.

Umeko can perform up to three strikes that this projection will then almost instantly execute. Regardless of whether they strike, or are blocked/dodged, Umeko will seemingly warp from where she had been standing to be standing in the phantom's position, essentially "following through" as she will now have moved without seemingly using any movement of her own. This is because the "projection" itself actually is Umeko, cloaked in a veil of Avalon's energy around her, and the image of Umeko left behind is simply an afterimage which blinks out of existence the moment the attack is executed.

Absolute Reign:
This is an ability that is usable only once in any given thread, as it is the pinnacle of what it means, in Umeko's eyes, to truly have Authority. It is mastering all, but none other before yourself. Due to this belief, Umeko has developed this technique as a way to display that none other but herself will ever command her.

Reciting a short incantation, Umeko will "unlock" a backup store of energy that is bound to the sugiuran's soul with a rune. This rune is a magic, a spell that will use that energy to surge throughout her entire body, restoring her to a "base" condition deemed as the most recent state in which she had total control over herself. As Umeko's indomitable will makes it impossible for others to control her mind, and she is naturally immune to poisons and the like, this applies solely to seals that could feasibly be placed on her being to limit her power or bind her person. As this spell is separate from her own power, it will function even if all of her energy has been sealed away so long as she is still able to speak the incantation.

This will not heal wounds, even if they were inflicted after the seal was placed. This will only restore her to a state where her being was not compromised by binds, seals, runes, or other such techniques. This is only useable once per thread, as she needs time in between uses to re-write this magic onto her soul.

» Sacred Weapon

The Subjugator:
Umeko's sacred weapon is one that is meant to only aid in her hand to hand combat as opposed to hinder it, being able to be used at extremely close range to deliver precise, quick, and devastating strikes. When Umeko materializes them in her hands, they will appear as a pair of black, metal batons with more traditionally colored silver metal at one end of each which send a burst of psychokinetic energy in the form of an electric charge upon impact with another object. For those with a Durability of Advanced or higher, they might feel pins and needles around the spot where the baton impacted. At Adept, they would feel the area go numb briefly. At Beginner, they could lose the usage of that limb for 1-2 posts.

Regardless of skill, so long as it is under Master level, this will typically be enough to briefly (would not be for an entire post, but would be enough to garner a reaction and potentially interrupt a movement or combat action) daze the opponent from the shock unless they are accustomed to such things, have a lightning or psychokinetic affinity, or have a Master rank in either A.) Willpower or B.) Pain Tolerance. It doesn't have enough charge to kill, only to stun unless the opponent fills one of the above conditions.

Apart from this, the two seperate batons can be combined into one, significantly longer, bo staff. This staff carries the same kind of electric charge in both ends, but is used with an entirely different combat style and set of movements and special techniques. This Sacred weapon also has a variety of uses beyond simply being used as a set of, or as a singular, close combat weapon(s).

The first is that they can be thrown, Umeko's unity with her Guardian Beast represented in the way that she can throw them at any conceivable nearby object and they will ricochet once and only once, but it will always be back in the direction of the opponent. This means that Umeko can lay complex traps utilizing both batons as well as her martial arts to create situations in which she can usually score a hit to an opponent by presenting attacks from three seperate directions that they must dodge. This means that it takes those of typically higher levels of Focus to be able to effectively battle the kind of onslaught that this sacred provides. The second is that Umeko has the ability to unleash a number of bala-like projectiles of electricity from her Sacred if it is in staff form, spinning it rapidly in front of her to create a massive rain of thirty acid-green bolts of lightning The final ability this sacred possesses, is that they can be telepathically recalled to Umeko's hand from anywhere within 100 yards, so long as her hands are still intact enough to hold on to them, without expending any of the psychokinetic energy used within her Resonating Signal.

» Sugiura Magic:

Name: Boundary Field of Alert
Type: Ancient Magic
Subset: Spiritual
Rank: E
Effect: A basic spell not suited for combat. It can be erected around a rather large area and will alert the user of anyone entering, unless they can completely mask both psions and visibility, since the field checks for both things. Nearly all Sugiura are able to at least protect their own home with one of those. If the user is asleep, he/she will instantly wake up once someone intrudes the field. This is an easy skill to learn and doesn't take long to master.

Name: Piercing Light
Type: Ancient Magic
Subset: Spiritual
Rank: D
Effect: Sends out a single ray, similliar looking to light, but moving slower so that the movement can actually be seen. This move is ment to pierce a small area, perfect for pin-point attacks, but can't cause large damage, but can easily pierce through enhanced guards by energy as an example, if the person has the magical skill to make it strong enough to do that. It requires high accuracy and/or concentration to use this effectively, instead of high Psions like other spells. This is another easy spell to use in battle, but a bit more difficult to master.

Name: Surrounding Shield
Type: Ancient Magic
Subset: Spiritual
Rank: D
Effect: The user creates a shield of solidified light from their palm that splits apart energy attacks as they make contact with the shields surface, causing the energy to dissipate, it's a technique, that can be utilized in a similar manner to the Rho aiuas, Spell. This is one of the easier spells to learn doesn't take as long to learn.takes a longer time.

Name: Coiled Silk Force
Type: Ancient Magic
Subset: Physical
Rank: C
Effect: is based on traditional Chinese martial arts, it is a magic technique that uses the entire nervous system to create a spiraling force at the point of impact that serves as both an offense and a defense. The user will channel their Psions through their body and create a rotational, spiraling force of energy around their body. The most conventional use of this attack is to coat the user’s limbs with this energy and impressively increasing the puncturing power of physical attacks, akin to the difference between a musket ball and a conventional bullet. When used around the body, the user is able to deflect some of the force away from their body, dampening but by no means negating, incoming attacks.

Name: Shitenoou Nanatsu no Enkan(熾天覆う七つの円環 Lit: The Seven Rings that Cover the Fiery Heavens)
Type: Ancient
Subset: Spiritual
Rank: B
Effect: often, called rho aias, by most this is a powerful defensive spell, that can only be utilized by mid-level to very high level sugiuras, as it takes a supply of high amounts of reaitsu to supplement it. It takes the form of a seven layered barrier with the shape of an iridescent flower with seven petals. Formed out of a Strong Reaitsu user's palm. Each layer has the defensive power of a fortress wall, however it is necessary for the user to fill the barrier with the use of strong reaitsu, should the barrier be broken, the user will feel pain in accordance. which depending on the number of times it is used, could be quite costly to the user, if they are not so much as an ounce careful in using this spell, with one with a full powered reaitsu, this could block off Strong Kido Spells, Gran rey cero's, or a cero oscuras, because of the massive defensive walls created, within each layer's structure. they can be broken depending on the strength, another use for this spell, can be used to help, block an attack before it reaches an ally, or when they need extra energy behind their attack. by doing so, they can utliize the spell, to block off the attack, on the opposite side of the opponent, while working as a extra layering around the allies attack. Nullifying the opponent's attack, so the ally can use their own, making it one of the sugiuras strongest defensive magic techniques, and as such takes a long time to learn let alone master.

Name: Taiyou no Mannakahe (たいようのまんなかへ, lit. "To the Center of the Sun") (Event Only)
Type: Ancient Magic
Subset: Spiritual
Rank: S
Effect: Taiyou no Mannakahe is a high-power long-range energy attack. It has no "element" but rather is made of pure reishi and energy from the material body. It is fired from the user's index finger of their dominant hand. If ambidextrous, it can be fired from either hand. Only one can be fired per 5 posts. It is the Sugiura equivalent of a Cero Oscuras in terms of power. It is broken down into two stages. The first stage is the "aiming" stage. After pointing at the target, a one-inch-diameter circular beam will be emitted from the finger. Anyone who has not seen or heard of the attack will believe that the beam itself is the attack. However, that is false. Instead, it acts as a laser sight for the actual attack. The longest range ever recorded was 5 miles. After one post, the true attack will be fired. Instead of being something like a large circular attack, this technique takes the form of a long, tall, thin, blade-like attack. The highest ever recorded height was 10 miles high. However, all Taiyou no Mannakahes are EXACTLY one inch thick at their thickest point.

» Personal Mystic Eyes:

Limited Causality Perception:
To the untrained eye, this ability almost seems like precognition, but instead of actually seeing the future, the Sugiuran is instead able to “read” a situation and instinctively will map out the most efficient and crucial actions and reactions that need to be taken to reach an optimal result. While it is not that different from how a normal person will calculate and react to a situation, the magnitude to which a Sugiuran is able to perform this action is astronomical. This trait makes the Sugiuran people absolutely devastating combatants due to their cognitive prowess and their planning abilities that draw straight from this capacity for perception in addition to the drastically increased reaction time that comes from this ability.

Mystic Eyes of Eternity's Glow:
Umeko's mystic eyes are one of the most interesting things one might find about her. While her causality perception has been worked down to an absolute understanding of the world around her, the unique ability that she developed upon her mystic eyes maturing was not what anyone had expected the combat-proficient Umeko to nurture. Her ability has no usage as far as battling opponents is concerned, and is not something she typically has need for in battle. Some have called it a representation of the true love she has for those in her kingdom, and others have said it's because she can't help but be controlling.

Essentially, with the consent of the receiver, Umeko can touch a being's chest and, through doing so, place a small glyph on the target's heart. This glyph isn't immediately detectable by anyone who might be observing this person, unless they had a way of seeing such things within a person. It can be removed by people who specialize in the release of such runes.

The only function of this rune is that it grants Umeko a working knowledge of the location, mental state, and vital signs of the person whom it is inscribed on. No matter how many barriers, seals, or walls one might lock or hide the target behind, Umeko would still know every one of these details down to the smallest variance unless the glyph were to be removed entirely.

» Equipment

Throwing Needles:
One of the two tools Umeko uses for stealthier, more assassination-geared combat is a set of a thousand needles that Umeko has held in two seperate containers tied to her forearms. She can fire up to five at a time from each, which she will then catch in her hand before throwing them in the direction of an opponent. For these to be effective, she mostly relies on her speed, incredible aim, and knowledge of pressure points and vital spots on the body to do any real damage.

In casual conversation, she might use one of these to playfully stop someone from doing something stupid, e.g. flicking one into a pressure point on the arm to stop the arm from moving if said person was about to smack someone else. These kinds of applications are far from malicious, and are different than her sending five into different spots to paralyse a target before using a very well placed one to stop said target's heart. This is why these can become a threat in combat if the opponent is not durable enough to resist the needles.

This is their primary drawback however. Combined with Umeko's lack of distinct physical strength, the weakness of the needles' composition means targets around her strength or even weaker targets if they had unusually strong defences could effortlessly block a good number of these, or find that they have no effect even if they make contact. These are mostly for use against weaker opponents, such as NPCs or opponents whom Umeko is more training or sparring with than seriously fighting.

Collapsible Sword:
A more stealthy weapon than the ghostly Samsara used in Umeko's Matul Ispiritu, this weapon is a blade used specifically for assassinations. A slim wooden handle that is tucked into a loop on a belt around Umeko's uniform hides a retractable blade that will extend as a "mouth" of four metal prongs open up to release it. It releases almost without sound, and is about as durable as a standard-issue training Zanpakutō. Good for quick kills that don't require too much effort, but bad for any actual combat.

VII. Maxima Sindicat (Event Only:)

» Maxima Sindicat Appearance

Because of the complete and total synchronization between Umeko and Avalon, their transformation into the Maxima Sindicat form is quite the sight to behold. Umeko's eyes will glow brightly, a gold light that shines outward into the world, as they move into the Matul Ispiritu form to initiate the transformation. The green aura that surrounds Umeko's person in this form will start to expand outward, solidifying as it grows and hiding the girl entirely from view. It continues to grow until it forms a large, opaque, acid-green hexagonal diamond that expands to about twelve feet below Umeko's feet, and about three feet above her head, expanding outward about six feet on either side. Once this diamond has finished growing, it will flash with a blinding light before it slowly begins to dissolve away into flecks of energy in the form of what looks like shards of stained glass that will fall gently on the wind to the ground. As the diamond dissolves, Umeko's Maxima Sindicat appearance will be revealed.

» Maxima Sindicat Abilities

Suffocating Spiritual Pressure:
When Umeko and Avalon combine their reserves and strengths truly into one vessel, the power that vessel contains is astronomical. Umeko and Avalon combined create a force so powerful that it will start to bend, crack, splinter, and break nearby buildings, materials, and trees . Opponents under Umeko's level of strength in this form might find that they have trouble breathing, standing, talking, or moving in general. Others, weaker still, might find loss of consciousness. The very air would be thick with it in this form that functions as the pinnacle of Umeko's and Avalon's combined ability. Their sync is in tune enough in this form to where they retain their abilities from previous forms, combining all of their tricks to aid in their arsenal when they have truly set themselves to destroy an opponent. (A/N: The exception is the ghostly Samsara, as Umeko can summon the true Samsara in this form as she and Avalon are combined.)

All The King's Horses:
The pinnacle of all of Umeko and Avalon's speed augmentation is this technique useable only when Umeko and Avalon are truly as one. As opposed to boots, Umeko and Avalon's feet are encased in harnesses that are wired into her very spiritual energy, attached to a gyroscopically stable frame, encased in a hardened and yet surprisingly lightweight spiritual metal that functions as wheels. One on each foot. This sort of skating-like movement is fluid in a way that normal feet would not conceivably be able to be. Her range of immediate motion becomes a full 360 degrees, as she is no longer limited to the angles at which her feet are pointing or the distance between them.

The outside of the metal is coated in a layer of spiritual energy that vibrates rapidly on command, able to create enough friction for Umeko and Avalon to brake, jump, or any number of functions that normal wheels rob from movement ability. On top of this, these wheels are powered with the full speed force of both Umeko and Avalon at the peak of their power, creating some truly terrifying movement speeds when applied in a battle situation. These can reach dizzying heights, leaving practically no trace of where she has been or where she is until she's already gone. With the vibration of the spiritual pressure a round her wheels comes an immense amount of cutting power as well. These can rotate at speeds so high and vibrate at frequencies so fast that it can cut right through sekiseki.

These wheels can do a significant amount of damage if they impact with an opponent because of how surprisingly dense the metal is despite its light weight. However, the metal is still a material, and can be broken if it takes enough punishment. Each have their breaking point, and those more powerful than Umeko in this form would not find it too difficult to break them. She can still move with a considerable amount of speed if these wheels are broken, but it won't be the kind of insanity one would see with the wheels attached.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] 270?cb=20120311033602

The Heretic's Brand:
The sort of vengeful counterpart to Umeko's 'Absolute Reign', this commands authority over someone else's glory by 'disheartening' the opponent. The way that she does this is that she has to have a direct line of contact with the opponent. Once she has part of herself directly touching part of an opponent, a series of three translucent golden circles will appear above the impact point, the smallest one closest to the opponent, then a slightly bigger one an inch above that, and a slightly bigger one an inch above that. The second stage of this is that Umeko must then impact with that spot again, hitting it in such a way that she also makes impact with all three circles.

If she can manage to pull off this attack on her opponent, it will brand them with a green mark on their skin that will remain until the end of the thread. This mark will not hurt, or even be etched onto the skin itself. This mark is a seal that can lock away up to 75% of an opponent's power. This number is based on the opponent's Willpower or Focus skill (whichever is highest), and scaled as follows.

Grand Master = 0%
Master = 15%
Advanced = 25%
Adept = 50%
Beginner = 75%

This is typically seen as a way to quickly make sure that an opponent will be easier to deal with, but it requires a great deal of energy to execute, and can only be attempted once per thread, and only once per opponent. If she misses the second strike, or doesn't hit all three circles, or can't make contact with the opponent, she won't be able to try and use this ability again on that opponent for the rest of the thread.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] WdjV5IO

Bladed Claws:
Umeko's hands in this form have claws on the ends of the fingers that function as an augment to her hand to hand combat. Each has cutting power equal to a sealed Zanpakutō of someone around the same level of strength. These are also armored, making her swift strikes hurt a heck of a lot more than they normally would. These, like the wheels on her feet, can also be broken if they take enough punishment.

The Barricade:
As another ability forged to try and compensate for Umeko's length of physical strength and durability, Umeko in this form gains the ability to summon a large, round, wooden shield in this form with a large number of sharp, pointed spikes on the side facing away from her. This shield is larger than Umeko's own person, and is held against her wrist. In addition to its size, the shield also has eight points on it where a set of four spikes each protrude, about as long as the blade of a sword. These are to discourage melee attacks, and help Umeko to regroup.

This shield can absorb up to a Cero Oscuras from someone at Umeko's strength in this form, up to five or six Cero from someone stronger, and up to several times the strength of a Cero Oscuras from someone weaker. However, this is not damage that has to be dealt all at once. This damage will accumulate as it takes attacks, until enough total damage has been built up to shatter it. This defense can only be summoned once per thread.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] TsggXVi

Coronation:
A long-ranged offensive ability that Umeko commands in this form, the "Coronation" ability unleashes golden beams of energy that fire straight and true much like a rail gun and with about the same force and speed as a rather powerful rail gun might feasibly be. These bursts of energy will shoot from the tips of the prongs of Umeko's crown, and carry roughly the destructive power of a high-level practicioner's kido in the range of around the 60s. These beams can cause massive amounts of damage on contact as it takes an incredible sort of defense to truly guard against the piercing power of these attacks. She can fire up to twenty of these per post, must wait two posts between uses, and can use this ability up to eight times a thread.

Reality Marble; The Proving Grounds:
This ability is one that requires a lot of spiritual power to utilize, and is only reserved for the most dire of circumstances as it is an extremely powerful technique. This ability creates a reality marble that is beyond most illusory detection-type techniques. Only the strongest of illusion breakers can shatter this summoned world. Said world takes the appearance of a large, gladiatorial-style arena wherein the combatants will be standing in the center, with a number of phantom beings filling the stands that will not interact with anything or be able to be interacted with by anything. On top of this, they will appear to be cheering and jeering.. but no sound will be coming out. Because of the massive amount of energy that it takes to sustain this marble, Umeko can only keep it up for ten posts at maximum. Any longer than that, and she will pass clean the hell out upon exiting her Maxima Sindicat form.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] KWXDUQJ

  • Thrill of the Hunt
A summons more than anything, Umeko in this form and within the confines of this reality marble can summon up to five beasts that function as arena "challenges" for her opponent. These beasts function as tier 1-5-- and have a tough armored upper hide that takes roughly three cero's worth of energy to break. If one wants to go for the quick kill, one should go for the underbelly, where something as weak as a bala could feasibly seriously wound or injure one of the creatures. These animals will pounce, scratch, bite, and growl to try and intimidate prey. These beasts do not have any special traits or abilities, apart from their odd otherworldly appearance, and can be killed like normal animals. They will not attack Umeko or her allies, and if an ability from an opponent would otherwise make one of them do this, the animal will simply detonate in the same way the soldiers do when sacrificed.

Umeko Zhilan; Eden of the East [0-2] OhyVjzx

  • All The King's Men:
Much like the Armada that Avalon commands in her Flimkien state, in their Maxima Sindicat, Umeko and Avalon command an even greater force. The tiers and skills of the soldiers remain the same. However, their number increases greatly. The maximum amount that Umeko in this form can summon is 1,000 men, greatly increased from the previous 100. In this state, there are 250 of each archetype. The unique thing about these soldiers compared to the ones used in Avalon's Flimkien state, however, are that these all have a large glyph, exactly like the sealing glyph, on their foreheads.

  • Honorable Discharge:
..a follow up to the previous ability, this sub-ability allows for Umeko to simultaneously detonate every single one of the soldiers under her command via the glyps in their foreheads, instantaneously killing them as well as unleashing a cero-strength blast upward from the spot. This might not be dangerous in a one-on-one fight against one of the soldiers, but in the arena where they can become very clustered together if the opponents are not careful, they have the potential to do some serious damage. Once this ability is used, the soldiers who were sacrificed cannot be resummoned. However, any soldiers that were cut down before being sacrificed may be resummoned once and only once, unlike outside of this form when her soldiers cannot be resummoned once defeated.

  • Veni, Vidi, Vici:
The true trump card of this reality marble, and Umeko's primary reason for utilizing it, is this ability, in which Umeko gains a true sort of "Authority" over the "Glory" that combatants receive in her arena. Using this, Umeko will declare (typically at the moment of this arena being summoned) what the "condition" for victory is. This leaves an imprint on all combatants that is a sort of form of "magical law enforcement".

This aura will guarantee that the combatant in question will not "lose" the battle unless someone has satisfied the win condition. This means that if the person, even if they are not allied with Umeko, takes mortal damage it will repair the damaged area or sustain the opponent's life force as the case may be as victory would have been achieved by a means not meeting the condition. This is a powerful ability, and a double edged sword as it can be just as beneficial for enemies as it is for allies. Once the victory condition has been declared, the energy that these fields takes shortens Umeko's usage time of the marble considerably, halving it to where Umeko or her opponents will have only five posts to secure victory before the marble is lost, Umeko is taken out of commission, and the opponent(s) will be left to sweep victory up afterward.

The victory condition cannot be set as simply whatever is in Umeko's head, however. Whatever win condition she sets must be completely and totally possible and feasible for all currently battling combatants to accomplish. This means that the more people there are that Umeko is battling, the more restricted this ability gets, as it means there will be more people's limitations to consider when deciding on what the victory condition is.

A good example of something Umeko wouldn't be able to do would be declaring that victory could only be achieved by a sugiura when she is facing one singular opponent whom is an arrancar. This condition would not set, as it would be impossible under these conditions for the opponent to win. An example of a condition Umeko could set would be that victory could only be achieved with an attack from the front. This would still be something that any given opponent could feasibly achieve, while also creating an obstacle for both Umeko and the opponent to overcome in the pursuit of securing victory.

As an example of how this ability were to feasibly work would be thus: Facing a single opponent, Umeko could declare that victory can only be achieved when one of the combatants had been decapitated. From this point, if the opponent were to stab Umeko through the heart, then the life would not be snatched from Umeko. The area would heal, Umeko's life would be sustained, and the battle would continue until time has expired or the victory condition has been met. Once the victory condition has been achieved, regardless of the outcome, the reality marble will disappear, and Umeko will be out of the fight either through having won and no longer needing to be there, or through being incapacitated by having lost the battle.
