BRITANNIA KUJA

THE NORMIE

SONG: A B C - ARTIST: N/A - WORDS: 272

Homicide was the crime of the hour apparently. Such an ugly thing to do, at least in Britannia's eyes. She would never understand what would drive a person to do such a thing to another human being. Though maybe what did this wasn't human, maybe it was one of those monster freaks. She's started to see a ton more cases that's drawn back to those monsters. Anyways, back to the problem at hand.

Today's victims were a couple, foreign, both murdered in their hotel room in New York, New York. Though this wasn't just some random killing, as the victim's were both sitting in chairs with peaceful looks on their faces. As Britannia got closer for inspection, she could she that there was a single bullet hole on each victim's foreheads.

The corpses were fresh, which meant that they died recently. Nothing in the room, at least at first glance, seemed to be too out of place. According to the poor maid that happened to stumble into the room, the bodies were found on Sunday. Since today was currently Wednesday, that must mean the victims were killed in the same day they were found, right? Or perhaps she was looking too deep into this.

Anyways, the next step of action was to ask around. Britannia left the crime with her coffee in hand and traveled next door. After about 10 minutes of questioning, she ended up with almost nothing. According to the woman who was next door at, there was no noise. This didn't add up.

"I wonder, I wonder...."
Britannia scratched her chin as her mind went to work.

Oh, what another glorious day it was. This world had grown so amazing vibrant since last Yaksha had been in it, and it was hard not to spend time simply...luxuriating, for the time being. After all, there were now so many millions of people, and he barely even had to try hiding himself. Those who did see him rarely ever did so for a period of time lasting longer than the duration of time it took for their eyes to dilate and their mouths to open. It would hardly be fitting for him to get slaughtered just for another stag night, would it? And so he stuck to the outskirts for now, dipping along between the people. He would only step out for a split second or two, just long enough for the gentle susurrus of voices to wash over him.

To drown out his own susurrus. These voices were all so varied, so rich with their own unique harmonics. It was a singularly ecstatic experience, being this close to so many diverse, unique people. Being able to reach a hand out, to point a finger at someone randomly, and pick up the faintest snatch of conversation. Of life. It was enough to remind him that life as a hermit wasn't quite worth it.

Of course, it's hard to be a hermit when you carry in excess of a million people as passengers. That susurrus wasn't anywhere near as pleasant for him. He could close his eyes and stab into the dark, anywhere in the dark, and it would be the exact same. Those same hateful, spiteful words, the same venom and malice directed towards him. It was like sliding a hand through a bathtub, one that had been left lying too long, and had congealed into some hideous mess. But this, the real deal...it was like looking at the ocean. The waves flowed and eddied and whirled, and it was fascinating and hypnotic and so very real. Yaksha would find a way to harness it, eventually. As soon as he managed to figure out the starting path towards shutting up these wretched voices.

For now, simply quieting them would have to do. He closed his eyes once more, trying to listen in on a hundred conversations at once, trying to break each one down, to fill in the gaps, to create a new and exciting story for each one. He stopped after about twenty minutes when he realized how little good it would do; most of them simply didn't have interesting lives. They lived a life of ghosts and heaven and hell and they still went around blabbering about a bunch of gibberish! It was enough to break a man's heart.

He closed his eyes once more, claw sliding over his face slowly, carefully, seeming almost to sink into a hibernation. It took only two words to pierce through his defenses, and suddenly get his attention.

Curiosity. A human would that wanted answers. Well, when it came to answers, they could hardly do worse than to ask their elders. He lurched out from his spot in the alleyway, his movements clumsy and weak at first. How long had he been standing there? A few minutes at the most, surely.

Yaksha was reminded of the time he'd spent 'a few minutes' listening to that one CD. That had spanned almost an entire decade, and he still had trouble reconciling that fact. It was simply absurd that he could've gone on autopilot that long. Yaksha wasn't some slavering, babbling, mindless beast. Just because that was what others saw when they looked at him, that didn't make it what he was.

He continued to lurch along slowly, with clear intent, towards Britannia. This time he wasn't even trying to hide himself, and no small number of people had noticed him. His movements hectic and jerky, his eyes so fixated, it was hard to see him as anything but a wild animal, prepared to strike.

He approached the girl's table, enormous white claws skittering across the table. He spoke, in a surprisingly soothing, polite voice. It was the kind of voice one would expect to hear from a slightly overaged librarian, who fairly oozed slightly strained politeness.

"Wonder no longer. I'm at your service. And while I've got your attention...isn't 'susurrus' such a nice word? Doesn't it just make you think of what it means?"

THE NORMIE

It happened so fast she almost screamed.

Not soon after she spoke, a lizard monster had landed onto her table. It wasn't a monster though, because if it was she would've been dead before she knew it. Damn it! Here she was, a detective, not even able to defend herself. Luckily that she wasn't attacked, because if she was she would've been dead. She hated her life as a normal person, all she wants is the power to protect.....

But that's neither here nor there. The beast had decided to ask her a question, one that was rather odd.

"Susurrus? It is quite an odd word, though not overly odd. It uses only 3 letters from our alphabet, but it's meaning is quite simple." She took a sip of her coffee as she addressed the hollow. He didn't look as if he had the intention to kill her. Even if he were to kill her, who would care? She's just another lamb to the slaughter.

She puts down her coffee and walks around the hotel room she was currently in. It wasn't the one of the crime scene. It just happened that the one across the hall was open, so she booked it for the week.

"Anyways, what brings you here Mr. Hollow?"

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

"By that do you mean what am I doing in the human world? Or what am I doing talking to you? They're two very different questions. If I rattled your head enough that you can't get the right words out, then I'm horribly sorry. I'll help you find them, while you settle down."

He shuffled around the table, towards the open doorway, flicking a hand up lazily; a single claw was extended, as he dipped around a corner with a single smooth, careful motion. He seemed completely absorbed in something else, his lips moving slowly, muttering to himself as he moved. He didn't even seem all that concerned if she followed, simply speaking to himself as he walked. After maybe two or three minutes, he finally responded.

"I'm here in the human world because I recently ate a perfectly respectable hollow, and I daresay I can keep myself focused for a little while. Focus is somewhat of a pointless resource in Hueco Mundo. I'd liken it to a fish with a bike, if that comparison isn't yet dated."

He snorted ever so slightly, once more murmuring to himself, as if he were holding an elongated conversation in his own head, speaking both sides...or perhaps as if he were just trying to anticipate what she was saying. It was hard to tell, with how little time he spent actually looking at her.

"And I'm here talking to you because you're clearly in need, and it takes a special kind of monster to turn away a child in need."

She followed the hollow out into the hallway of the hotel. It's movements were smooth and had a sense of elegance to them and were slightly hypnotic. She watched him closely as he speaks to her. Britannia was mainly waiting for him to turn on her and eat her, so her guard was up. Not like she was able to do much anyways.

It referred to her as a child, which made her wonder just how old this creature was. It also made her think, how old would she have to be in his mind to not be a child? Would she have to live past her 100 year mark before she reached his standards.

"Your here to help me, huh? Alright, you wouldn't happen to know much about murders would you? More specifically, our murderer?"

She took a sip of her coffee and put her hand in her pocket, still following the hollow. She would leave him alone, but then he'd be someone else's problem and she couldn't live with herself if he actually ended up eating a human. She noticed that nobody else in the hotel had come out to see what was going on. Normally people would be nosy and someone would've screamed by now, but nope. Nothing. This hollow was just a "friendly" and "safe" character. At the moment.
