JUNKO ASTILLON

Damn Freeloaders... Freeloading. [Junko/Yaksha] [CLOSED] 6EdIfMt

Junko walked quietly through the busy streets of Vegas. She was utterly amazed by the sights; when she was little she always heard of Vegas, mostly from pictures and the occasional glance of her brother's cartoons. She got the general idea that it was a really busy and popular city, but she never would think it was so beautiful in real life, especially in the future. The world was much, much different than when she was, well, not a demon.

Speaking of demons, while she was lurking around, she had ran into some Shadow Fall affiliates, and had a rather awkward (well, awkward on her end) talk. They were pretty friendly with her, in a weird way despite not knowing her. Throughout the conversation she had kept her hand over her heart, where her mark, her gift from Arianda, had resided. It was almost impulsive for her to touch it, like a child hugging a teddy bear or blanket for comfort. She was nervous through the entire conversation, until one topic in particular caught her attention; some freeloading shapeshifter being all up in Vegas. They described him as "A dick who expected everyone to kiss his ass". He sounded like an... Interesting character, so she got some clothes up in a bag and had headed out.

She continued walking through the streets, almost hitting into some people and mumbling apologies. She pulled out from the crowd, having seeing an ice cream parlor that was thankfully still open so late. She got herself in, groaning a bit when all the seats in the building were taken. She frowned, slumping against a wall. She didn't even take a minute to think about getting any money for herself. She really wanted ice cream too... Shame. She yawned, rubbing her eyes. Pretty late, and she hadn't slept all day, considering she was booking it to Vegas.

She had absolutely no idea how to find this guy. He was a shapeshifter for goodness sake! He could be anyone! Then again, she couldn't just ask around if someone was him. That would be so embarrassing... She'd probably humiliate so many people and look like a fool in the process. She pressed her hands against her face, groaning.

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

The door to the ice cream shop had opened, and a man could be seen, outlined against the bright lights from outside for a few moments. It looked, in fact, almost as if his face was swimming, out of focus, until he shut the door, and let out a loud, almost theatrical sigh. As he ran a hand through his hair, one could see that it was long, and likely quite luxurious to the touch from the slow and pleased way he went about slicking it back from the faint drizzle of rain outside. In fact he even ran his other hand through it, as he turned towards the counter.

A set of large, highly reflective sunglasses framed his face, making it impossible to tell the color of his eyes, or even to make out many details about his cheeks. His lips were thin, almost looking like a bloodless gash when he wasn't speaking, and there was a faint scar across one corner, that left it curled up in a way that revealed entirely too much of his teeth and gums as he spoke. He curled arms around himself defensively, and shivered for a moment, voice rich, clear, and pleasant.

"Brrr! You guys keep this place cold! Or is it those freezers in the back? They must work overtime and a half with all the traffic you guys get. I just don't know how you do it; I thought ice cream went out of vogue long ago. All those fancy frozen yogurt places, with their pretty little pumps! But none of those can really compare to the simple delight of watching ice cream get scooped from a tub, to me."

He approached the counter, placing a hand down on it flat, and curling his hand into a fist. As he did, his hair could be seen coiling over on itself as well, the previously straight and silky locks seeming to turn into a frizzy, bobbed afro before the clerk's very eyes. The speaker paid no mind, examining the menu, and then drumming a finger on the counter.

"How, do you think, would a cotton candy ice cream shake taste? Too sweet? Should I go for something a little more subdued, like vanilla?"

Junko placed her hand upon her mouth when she stared at the checkered floor. She was quiet and still, shutting her eyes and exhaling through her nostrils. She didn't feel very cold since she was wearing quite the jacket, but she still had pretty cold breath. She was still debating if she should just say "screw it" to possibly embarrassing herself and just ask about the shapeshifter. She didn't quite know if humans, well, knew much about stuff like that. When she was human, or well, she thought she was human, she knew nothing about this stuff and just thought it was fable and fantasy.

Well it was sure as hell real, and she was living in it. She then felt a weight on her head, slowly looking up to see a little helmeted head staring back at her. She groaned, trying to smack it away, but was quite unsuccessful as it moved out of the way quickly. Stupid bird didn't know when to go away. She only just now noticed it hanging around her, all covered in chains and stuff, and she hated it. She didn't know why, she never knew of the bird thing beforehand; she just had this intense animosity for it. It just seemed like a nuisance, a thing in the way. No one else seemed to be able to see it either.

She was immediately ripped from her thoughts when some guy came into the ice cream parlor, interrupting the rather lax and peaceful atmosphere. She was absolutely smitten; how in the actual hell would a grown man be this dramatic and in your face about entering a place that sells ice cream. It would be cute if it was a kid wanting ice cream pretty badly but oh god was it cringey for this guy to do it.

Well, he seemed to know his way around. Maybe he knew about the shapeshifter? Probably wouldn't hurt to ask, but she knew deep down this was going to be an obnoxious pain. She walked up to the man, tapping his shoulder and giving him a stern, set expression.

"E-excuse me?" She stuttered, blushing a bit from the blunder, "Do... You know about a shapeshifter living here? I kind of wanted to meet them." She knew she probably looked crazy, but she had to do something at some point.

Yaksha could sense a presence a split second before the woman's hand touched against his flesh, and the entire tone of the conversation felt as scripted and precise, and above all else so uncanny that it could be nothing else. The very moment, her lips finished forming the words 'shapeshifter', he lashed out with both hands, grabbing her by the shoulder, and beginning to overwhelm her with such an incredible spew of words, at a pace that felt almost feverish, unreal. Words spun around her, cocooned her, and the entire time Yaksha's face was slowly, subtly, faintly changing; first the nose flattened, broadening out until it looked like he'd been struck with a frying pan. Then his hair slowly began to vanish and recede, leaving him looking balding.

"Are you serious there's seriously a shapeshifter skulking about the streets? This is terrible tragic awful apocalyptic catastrophic cataclysmic cataleptic! Wait a second that just sounds silly especially when I say it so seriously what was I thinking just terrible tragic awful apocalyptic catastrophic and cataclysmic then. We need to do something call someone tell someone warn everyone tell the army tell the navy tell the air force tell my mother! He could be anyone he could be her he could be you he could even be me!"

By now, less than ten seconds had passed, and he looked like an entirely new man; at least a few inches shorter, his demeanor dour, serious, and absolutely devoid of that faint and deeply ingrained confidence he'd expressed as he entered the room. But the voice was the same, something rich and sooth, pleasant and disarming. He let out a small, high-pitched, almost nervous chuckle, and then took a step away.

"No, if it was one of us we'd know."

Junko's eyes bugged when she was suddenly grabbed by this man, her pupils dilated from the fear. Her mouth turned into a sharp frown as she momentarily went into shock from the suddenly change of the man. Fear brewed in this girl as she was barraged with an array of nonsensical, utterly strange words. She could barely process any of it; her mind was trying to comprehend what the actual hell was happening. Her heart thumped in her chest as she stared at his transforming features and flapping lips.

The second he uttered his last sentence, she unconsciously manifested a rather warped looking knife in her right hand. Her left lunged forward towards the man's arm. If she managed to grab him, she would easily flip him onto his belly, causing him to hit the ground, in one swift movement Junko would twist the arm she gripped, pushing it against his back and holding the warped knife to his neck as she had a firm foot planted on his mid spinal area.

And there it was. Fear. The immediate and instinctive fear that all entities held. He could see it plastered across her face, could smell it rolling off of her waves, could tell from her stance that she was about to flee, or strike. The question, now, was which hand would she try to lay the definitive strike with? Her left, or her right? Sinister, or dexterous? Something told Yaksha both of them could apply equally to this girl. He watched her slow, subtle movements, his expression never once changing from that amused grin, as he allowed a length of reaitsu to travel down his right arm. Whatever she was, he was right-handed, and that meant unless she wanted to reach across his body she'd be needing to nab with her left.

He had called it right, or at least close enough for horseshoes; her hands dug into the flesh of his arm, which even in the three or four second paralysis she'd experienced, had turned spongey to the touch, and oddly...empty. It felt like she was holding a plaster mold of a hand, made of flesh, rather than a real hand. And as she went for her rather impressive judo throw, hoping to toss him like a sack of flour...nothing happened. His arm simply did a full revolution within the socket, the momentum never seeming to impart to the rest of his body. His arm, however, continued to spin, as if someone were turning a crank, rather than trying to toss an enemy.

He reached across his own chest, grabbing at his own arm, and giving a mild, pleased sigh. He then took a step away from her, arm popping out of the socket like a lizard's tail popping off. He met her gaze, raising one eyebrow slowly, precisely, his smile now one of long-suffering patience.

"You know, normally people don't react to words with violence. Are you sure you're alright? I can guarantee you this conversation won't get easier."

Junko's head immediately turned to face her "assailant" when he didn't plop on the floor directly in front of her as most creepers or muggers did. What she saw next shocked her; the man's arm rotating in circles- something that she was definitely sure a human couldn't do. She felt close to vomiting at the sight; even this was too much for Junko Astillon. What happened next, shocked her more- the arm oh so casually popped off this man's body. This only stirred the anxious girl's stomach more, which made her mind race. Soon arms very distorted and similar to the one that the man had popped off plopped down in front of her, which pushed her over the edge and simply made her run to the nearest bathroom and puke. She stumbled a bit on the way, feeling quite significantly weak from what she had just done.

Junko slowly emerged from the bathroom, looking quite terrible from her vomiting. She did a good, deep swallow, picking up the "spawned" in arms, tossing them in the trash. She looked over at the man, dipping her head and letting out a drawn out sigh. She walked in front of him, bowing.
"I apologize for my behavior, but are you the shapeshifter?" She asked, "...I think it's obvious, but.. Yeah."

"None other. I'm pleased to know my reputation is beginning to flourish, you know. I worked very hard trying to roll out the red carpet, and it gets a little discouraging sometimes, knowing how few people care."

He turned towards the ice cream counter, drumming a few fingers against the glass case as he looked down. Suddenly the man that Junko was speaking to seemed...old, unspeakably and unimaginably old. Old enough that the years had eroded and worn away at his mind and soul, leaving him gleaming and polished like a stone stuck beneath the ocean for centuries. There was something hideously empty about the look on his face now, as he chewed on his lower lip, ever so slightly.

"And what was it you were seeking, then? Knowledge? Power? Belonging? There are only so many things that motive people, even...immortals. You don't strike me as the sort to care about being on the top of the hill, or having the secrets of the universe lain bare. So...belonging, then? You think that something about this meeting will help you become the sort of person that people will appreciate."

He continued to stare down into the case, looking past the tubs filled with frozen confectioneries, his voice filled with a faint, almost painful finality. His words hung in the air, as solid and real as stone slabs, as he drummed fingers slowly, arrhythmically, in a mind-numbing cadence. Finally when he spoke, he looked almost...sad.

"You're wasting your time. But so long as you know that, let's at least waste it doing something pleasant. Do you prefer sherbet or sorbet?"
