As Law walked through the snows of the wasteland he began to wonder if there was really anything out here. Sure he'd heard that this wasn't a safe place to go, and that all kind of hollows called these wasteland home, but he'd been traveling for about an hour and a half now and he'd seen nothing but snow, and the occasional tree, which did little to liven the scenery. Looking over his shoulder Law noted that in the downfall his footprints lasted only a couple of seconds, he wondered how deep the snow he was walking on really was. He'd been traveling towards a mountain that stood alone in the middle of what seemed like an empty void. Clouds swirled about its peak, and he wondered how long it would take him to get to the top. Probably not that long. He'd slowly been getting closer but he could tell that the mountain was still a good day away at this pace. He felt no need to waste his energy, so he simply walked, letting the snow fall on top of his hat, and occasionally knocking it all off. To his surprise, and relief, he did end up running into a hollow after about an hours walk further. It was a large one, but not very smart, and not incredibly strong, although it did pack a bit of a punch. Drawing his sword Law inched closer to the thing, studying its reaction. It lashed out at him shortly before he was in range, and taking advantage of this misstep, Law sliced its arm from elbow to hand. Still functional, but definitely less useful. The hollow howled then backed away from his slowly. He wondered what it was doing, but then it began to charge, shoulder directed towards Law. Not willing to give this beast any ground Law simply held his blade out in front of him and waited for it to come closer. Soon before it reached him Law stepped into the beast, cutting it with all of his might. He was able to cut it neatly in two, from shoulder to hip. Re-sheathing his zanpakuto and glancing around to be sure there was nothing else about to attack him, Law continued to walk. Maybe it hadn't been a bad idea to come here after all, hopefully there would be something that posed more of a challenge ahead of him.

The Wastelands which dotted Earth had quickly become Jian Yijun's favorite training spots. The varying climates and types of enemies he would encounter at different Wastelands added a bit of spice and needed diversity to Kai's training regiments. The challenge of adapting to extreme temperatures both high and low was an added point of interest for him, especially because as a fire element user he wouldn't normally have to deal with the cold but being able to train in it was necessary to deal with those who directly countered his own abilities. It was for this reason Kai now stood shirtless with bare feet in the middle of a frozen tundra currently being covered in even more snow. To a regular human this environment would result in nothing but their death, but to Kai it was just a bit cold. His own body temperature prevented snow or ice from accumulating on his skin making him stand in stark contrast to his surroundings.
While in the middle of performing his regular taolu, or training forms, while wielding his huge heirloom guandao Erphtal, the sudden appearance of black-skinned demon covered in small horns surprised Kai. "I've been lookin' everywhere for ya! Sorry to break it to ya but you din' kill me last time so now I'm here for revenge. Time t' die!" Much to the chagrin of the demon, Kai's eyebrows curved from confusion until his eyes set on where his left arm should be. Of course! Kai recognized him as one of the demons he'd fought in the Sirsa kingdom who apparently somehow survived and hunted him down. Before Kai could get a chance to respond the demon barreled forward to rush the man down. Right before he reached Kai the Chinese youth dropped Erphtal so his grip was directly below the polearm's large blade and in the blink of an eye he shoved it straight through his foe's abdomen, the tip protruding out of his crag-like back. Whispering in his hear, Kai spoke a few words before life left the demon's eyes. "We're made by our choices. Unfortunately for you I still have many more I need to make."
Once the demon officially died Kai withdrew Erphtal and allowed its body to collapse in a heap on the snow-covered ground. Believing even demons deserved a righteous burial Kai created a sphere of green flames in his right hand and threw it at his body, incinerating it completely. It was right then Kai turned to face the direction from which he could sense another being, someone likely stronger than himself. Wanting to introduce himself to this person he immediately began walking toward whoever it was until they were only a dozen or so meters away and he spoke to the strangely dressed man. "Hey! I'm Kai, Vanguard Warden of the Northeast.....I guess. Don't really care for titles much. Who are you?"
As his travels carried him closer and closer to the mountain Law began to sense something else out here amongst the snow. He kept tabs on it, and perhaps a minute later it started to move in his direction. That was fine by him, he'd been craving some action, and this barren wasteland was hardly giving it to him. A short time later the being came into view off in the distance, and Law noticed that it was a human. He carried a pole-arm with a large blade on the end, he seemed to be a bit under dressed for the occasion though. The man continued to advance towards him, and then stopped, still a fair distance away, and spoke. Law wasn't incredibly interested in what the man had to say, but he caught the gist of it. At the moment though, having a conversation was ranking pretty low on the list of things Law would like to be doing. What he felt was needed at this moment was a bit of sparring. He'd lacked a worthwhile opponent for quite some time now, and the man in front of him was no complete weakling, at least that much he could tell. Sparring it would be then. Law found that others were usually much better at sparring if they weren't aware that they weren't in a real fight, and he tended to use this to his advantage. With a burst of speed utilizing his flash step Law closed the distance between them in but a moment, drawing his sword simultaneously and stopping suddenly a bit to the right of the man. Law leveraged the speed of his movement and swung his sword, aiming for the mans midsection. If it were to connect it would likely be quite painful, but not incredibly damaging, he intended for the cut to be shallow, but long. At the same time as he began to swing his blade Law began conjuring his room. It started out as a small ball of almost completely transparent blue energy swirling in the palm of his left hand, but it expanded rapidly until it engulfed both of the men within itself. Now that his room was up things were about to get a little bit more interesting. At this point Law activated his Shikai, and an astute observer would have possibly noticed that his sword was beginning to crackle. It was slowly starting to build up a charge, and the occasional spark could be seen along the length of the blade. The energy wasn't ready to be released yet, but as he continued to charge it the sparks would start to become more visible, to the point where you really couldn't miss it. It took a bit of concentration for Law to charge the blade, but he could still fight while he did so, although perhaps not at his full ability. That was fine though, he would fight at a reduced capacity for the moment, it would be more than worth it when he was finished charging his blade.

Having greeted the approaching man in a reasonably kind fashion Kai didn't really expect the man's instant aggression. The Chinese youth's eyes barely kept up with the flash step-enhanced movements of his attacker, only giving him a moment to lift Erphtal vertically with both hands to block the incoming sword strike. The man's blade bounced off the durable shaft of Kai's guandao which gave him enough time to watch the strange sphere grow in size until it enveloped not just the two fighters but a moderately large area around them as well. Not having an idea of what the newly created bubble did, Kai didn't really want to risk sticking around to find out. However at the same time he also didn't want to just run away.
Setting with going on the offensive at least temporarily, Kai hardened his grip on Erphtal held it so the weapon's massive blade pointed directly at his opponent. Using the momentum from stepping forward Kai put a lot of his significant physical strength into thrusting his polearm directly at Law with the express goal of goring the man's abdomen. As his occurred a flash of green fire exploded from the weapon's blade hot enough to melt metal and reduce biological material to ash. Regardless of whether his opponent blocked, dodged, or got hit by this attack Kai followed up by shifting his feet in order to pivot and spin once in a circle, slashing Erphtal in a three hundred and sixty degree arc in the process. This action also had the added effect of sending out a wave of more green flames from the weapon's blade which wouldn't dissipate until getting about five meters away from their creator. This ring of fire would sap the moisture from the air and vaporize the nearby and falling snow, immune to the dousing effects of water. Unique to Kai's flames is the fact Law would lose the ability to control or manipulate any energy or physical attacks outside of his body or Zanpakuto immediately upon contact with the fire.
Not wanting to give his foe any breathing room Kai continued pushing on against the Shinigami. After his last strike he stepped closer to Law and, while less than half a meter away, stabbed the bladed butt of Erphtal into the ground between the two fighters with a great amount of strength. This served to create an explosion of jade green flames with his guandao at its epicenter, an inferno which quickly grew in size until it encompassed about five meters worth of space in every direction meaning if Law didn't dodge out of the way he would likely be consumed by the raging fire. The force of the blast would be enough to knock any nearby normal person off their feet. From within the jade blaze Kai yelled out his response to the man's act of aggression. "You have the gall to attack me as I introduce myself? You won't have enough time to regret this decision!"
Carefully monitoring his opponents reaction, Law prepared himself to act. As he saw Kai beginning to thrust his spear he moved his blade so as to parry. He planned on discovering Kai's strength from the weight behind his attack, but he began to get a strange feeling about that plan. Regardless, he chose to block the attack. As he did so, he noticed that Kai possessed considerable strength, but with his ability in zanjutsu he was able to fend off the blow relatively well. He realized at this point though, that he should have payed more attention to the feeling that he'd had in his gut, as a green flame erupted from the tip of the spears blade. He certainly didn't expect the follow up attack, but acting quickly, he was just able to dodge the attack and take a step to the side. Kai's attack continued though and this time he slammed his spear into the ground causing fire to shoot towards Law. Law leapt backwards to safety, but as he did the very edge of the flame made contact with his leg. He suddenly felt an odd sensation, and his room began to shrink. He watched it do so, curious as to what other powers this strange man he'd run in to possessed. As his room enclosed upon his body he started to feel another strange sensation, and realized that his room had retreated to within his body. Well, he wouldn't be able to do everything he could, but at least he could still charge his zanpakuto. Looking down at the blade he noted that it was coming along at a reasonable pace, sparks ran up and down the length of the blade more visibly now, and there was a certain charge that could be felt in the air.
Law walked slowly forward, sword held in front of him. From this point on he'd be certain to be more cautious. He'd made a careless mistake that against a stronger opponent could have been incredibly costly. It was never wise to underestimate one's foe, he'd reaffirmed this with his last plan, and now he'd assess the situation more carefully before he chose a plan of attack. As he grew nearer to Kai he stopped walking, and took up a more defensive stance. With this, he spoke his first words to Kai since their encounter had began.
" I think you'll find I have the gall to do many things. You handle yourself well, for a human, now show me your full strength."
Not much could be gathered from his tone. He didn't raise his voice, and he instilled no emotion into his words, he meant to come across as completely detached, merely an observer. In essence that was what he was, an observer. Although he did have a habit of influencing whatever he was watching so that it wouldn't be too boring to handle. As he finished speaking he once again speedily moved towards Kai, although this time he didn't use flash step. He relied solely on his natural speed, which was still quite fast. Reaching Kai he would attempt to execute a stabbing attack to the other man's chest. Were Kai to block he would attempt to disarm his opponent using his advanced mastery of the blade to his advantage.

From within the inferno of glowing verdant flames he'd created Kai watched as his opponent dodged out of the way, though narrowly. He could just barely make out what appeared to be his flames licking at the man's leg as he fled from Kai's attack. From his current position the Chinese warrior could make out what seemed to be some form of electricity running up and down his foe's blade. Can't just assume it's normal lightning, I've faced stranger people with stranger abilities than that. Kai's thoughts were racing as he attempted to gather as much information about both his enemy and his abilities as quickly as he possibly could, past experiences aiding him in achieving this objective. The man seemed unnerved by what had already occurred, meaning he was either secretly powerful or just experienced enough to not be bothered by unique abilities. This observation would keep Kai on his toes now and throughout the entire coming storm.
Before his foe had a chance to close the gap between them Kai increased the density of the flames around him, enlarging the inferno until it was noticeably bigger than before. This charging of power only lasted a few seconds before Kai released these extra flames by shooting out two dozen or so meter-wide fireballs in every direction, three of which were aimed directly for Law. The rest splashed across the ground, immune to the melting and falling snow. These flames began to spread and turn the battleground into a field of fire, burning all away into ash and increasing the local temperature dramatically. Not sure of what his opponent was capable of, Kai wanted to give himself home field advantage in this bout.
Kai listened to his opponent's words with disdain. To him the randomness of this attack was what was most annoying. Ignoring the lack of emotion in Law's voice, Kai responded to the man with as much open hostility as he could muster. "I believe everyone deserves kindness, so I will benevolently teach you a lesson. Come, allow me to show you the tenacity of a hero." With this newest sprint Kai could keep better track of his opponent's movements, allowing him to make a more educated split-second decision. Once Law was almost in range Kai tossed Erphtal to the side and moved forward with as much speed as he was capable of, dodging slightly to the right in the process. Though the tip of his foe's blade nicked his side Kai didn't flinch as he reached forward with his left hand and tried placing it on his opponent's sword hand, his other being placed open palmed on the man's chest. Green fire would spread from each hand, potentially causing significant burns to Law's entire hand and torso as his clothes would be reduced to ash almost instantly from the intense heat of Kai's jade flames. Now lets see what you can do!
As Law continued to move forwards he noticed the other man doing something with his fire. Moments later the flames he controlled grew much larger in size, and Kai began to throw fireballs his way. He'd been hit by this fire once already, it wasn't happening again. The first fireball flew towards him and utilizing his flash step he quickly dashed to the right. The second fireball he was able to dodge without flash step, but the third would have been impossible to avoid if he was any less skilled. The remaining fireballs flew wide, and he didn't need to try to dodge them. Law could feel the heat radiating from the flames around him as they grew, their crackling breaking the silence that had hung over most of this encounter, except for the few times they'd spoken or clashed blades, the silence that had hung over Law on his entire journey, almost suffocating in this bleak landscape. He finally neared Kai, and after having exerted himself through a field of fire was sweating lightly. He saw Kai dodge his blade at the last second, but felt that he'd still connected if only trivially. The other man had thrown away his weapon immediately before they clashed, and law saw the other's hands coming towards him. He twisted his body slightly, dodging one of them, but the other hand caught him right above his wrist, clutching at his jacket sleeve. Immediately he felt his hand growing hot as the fire ignited his jacket. He had a feeling that this fire wouldn't go out as easily as a more normal flame, but he wasn't quite sure of his course of action. The fire rapidly spread as Law jumped back a way to gain time, then deftly cut the jacket sleeve off at the elbow, throwing it to the ground. The hand that had been growing steadily hotter now quickly grew cold, but he'd dealt with worse before. Law once more held his sword in both hands, and now rushed towards his opponent once again. By now his blade seemed to be fully covered in electricity, the buzz was quite loud and small arcs would sometimes shoot off in random directions. As he approached Kai he began to use his flash step to traverse a circle around his opponent. He most likely wouldn't be able to attain high enough speed to create the after image effect that he truly desired, but he could feel himself pushing the bounds of his flash step like he never had before. In truth the ability was beginning to become burdensome though, he was using it many times over a short duration. He wasn't out of energy yet though. Continuing his speedy assault Law began to strike out at Kai, attacking from the front, from the right, from behind, and then reversing his direction to once more attack from the right. He hoped that this switch up would confuse or disorient his opponent in some way. He could tell that in mere moments his blade would be ready to release the charge that it had been building for the entire fight. Coming to a halt once more in front of Kai, Law raised his sword until it was aimed at his opponent.
"I'll show you somethin' pretty cool here in a second"

Seeing he had somewhat hit his mark Kai was pleased with how this fight had been progressing thus far, though he certainly knew better than to make assumptions or jump to conclusions about his opponent. This was amplified by his own observations, one of which was of the ever-increasing power surrounding his foe's weapon. His opponent was clearly up to something with his sword and Kai still didn't know what the man's abilities were so caution would play a significant part in his following actions. Though the rapidly increasing temperature of this field of flames may cause his enemy to sweat, the water currently coating Kai's own brow was a result of using so much of his explosive jade fire in such rapid succession.
Once Law again shot forward and closer to Kai, flash stepping repeatedly in a circle around him, the Chinese warrior switched to his Assault Stance. With newfound strength surging through his body and two newly summoned swords in his hands, Kai faced his enemy with renewed vigor and confidence. Green flames spread from his hands to his weapons and coated their blades entirely, a countermeasure to deal with whatever the electric energy was on Law's. Though a bit outpaced in speed Kai continuously met his opponent's blows with his own, striking out and blocking each attack from the Shinigami with force he previously was not capable of. Despite this Kai could not stop the occasional bolt of electricity from striking his torso, each sending a twinge of pain through his skin and marking it with small black burn spots.
After the aggressive assault from his opponent ended and the man came to stand directly in front of him, Kai heard the taunt escape his lips before himself speaking. "Sorry, not letting that happen!" As he spoke Kai focused a tremendous amount of fire onto his swords, a larger amount than he'd released thus far. "Take....THIS!! Jade Dragon Slash!" As he said these words Kai lifted both swords so their blades crossed before slashing them, causing a gigantic X of green fire almost twenty meters wide to launch directly toward the Shinigami. These flames were of higher and hotter intensity than before, Kai's determination and anger figuratively and literally swelling inside the attack. Can't lose here!
Law could feel the temperature on the battlefield continuously rising. He was sweating moderately, but he didn't mind much. In the time he'd been a Shinigami he'd fought in the freezing cold, the burning hot, underwater, while free falling. There wasn't much left that could throw him off. Truth be told though, he did prefer the cold, and he'd be happier when this fire was out. He was quite surprised that Kai was able to block all of his attacks, as he'd been moving quite fast. The man had adopted some sort of alternate style, now wielding two blades that gradually became coated in the same fire that covered his hands. Still, at least Kai wasn't a push over, that would have been the worst possible outcome after coming all the way out here. Law still wasn't sure what he'd expected to find out here, but it certainly wasn't a fire wielding human. After Law taunted him Kai seemed to become enraged, his anger fueling his attack. Law observed as Kai crossed his blades, then launched a giant fiery slash at him. Due to the sheer size of the thing, and the proximity within which Law found himself it would be impossible to dodge. Unfortunately he'd have to use all of the energy he'd been storing inside of his blade to deal with an attack of this magnitude. He brought his blade down on to the fire that was soaring towards him, concentrating on releasing all of it as violently as possible. As the flame and the blade came in contact there was a tremendous crack. Law's sword which up until this point had the appearance of a sword with a small amount of electricity running up and down its length was now invisible, engulfed withing the surging mass of electricity and reiryoku. The two energies raged against each other fairly evenly until Law released more of the energy within the blade and the delicate balance was thrown off. As he released the energy there was an explosion from the point of contact, and he felt a wave a heat blow against him, and a bit of force, but the brunt of the blast had been aimed upwards. The rest of the fire had already sailed past him and had set more of the landscape ablaze, increasing the temperature even further. Having overcome the flames Law followed through with his attack, and although he was considerably slower this time than any other time he'd attacked Kai due to first having blocked the human's own attack, if he did happen to connect the effects would be devastating. Anywhere the sword touched would be severely shocked, and if it came in contact with Kai's chest his heart could even be stopped, although that wasn't a guarantee. With that he would stand still and address Kai once more. His sword was still covered in electricity, although not as much as it had first been. This was mostly because the blade had less excess energy, an attack from it would still possess much the same punch.
"Well I think you'll have to admit, that was pretty cool. You're pretty strong for a human, I'm actually impressed. Now that I've seen what you can do we can stop fighting though. Or we could keep fighting, if you insist. Got something else you wanna show me? "
Law lowered his blade slightly, but still held it in such a way that he would be able to defend himself at a moments notice. He held his position a few feet from Kai and waited for some kind of answer.

Though at first grinning a bit due to the incredible size and power of his own attack, at least compared to what he normally or so far produced, the reality of his situation quickly came back knocking. Kai watched with great focus as his opponent clashed with the gigantic blast of fire he sent at the man, a large explosion being the first result of the collision. Though he had created an attack far stronger than anything already used so far this battle, his opponent's superior power broke through and allowed the Shinigami to follow through with a counterattack immediately. Knowing he would need at least a short respite to recover from using the aptly named Jade Dragon Slash, Kai switched to his Bastion Stance for some much-needed defense against whatever it was his foe had cooked up. With his shield not in place of the two swords, Kai quickly raised it and coated the object with more of his jade fire to add some extra durability. It wouldn't be enough.
Once Law closed the distance between them and struck out with his electricity coated blade, the Chinese youth fighting him blocked the attack with his shield causing another explosion to occur due to the clash of their abilities. However this time he didn't have the advantage of range and was still recovering, causing him to go to skidding across the ground for over fifteen meters. Having hit every limb against the frozen tundra beneath him, Kai was quite sore by the time he stopped moving from the blast. The pain of blocking his foe's attack also rang through both his arms, the front of his magical shield blackened and smoking from the impact. As he began lifting himself to his feet Kai felt the shoulder of his shield arm had been dislocated from the force of the collision, every movement sending bolts of sharp pain through him. Using his inhuman strength Kai impaled his shield halfway into the rock-solid earth next to him, dropped to a knee, and then slammed his shoulder against the object with a great amount of force. After yelling from the pain of fixing his dislocation Kai stood back up and faced Law, fire still shining in his eyes.
Speaking between pants from the pain, Kai responded to his opponent's statements with as much determination in his voice as ever. "You attacked me...and now you want to just...stop? What kind of man...would I be...if I just let you do whatever you want? No, sorry...I'm not quite done yet. Let me show you what happens when you mess with a real hero." At this point Kai's shield disappeared, replaced by nothing as he switched to his Standard Stance. Assuming a battle posture by shifting his right foot back and raising both now-flame covered fists toward his opponent, Kai made it clear this fight wasn't over.
