Stranger Still! [Yaksha/Boria] Empty Stranger Still! [Yaksha/Boria]

Yaksha, The Überseele

Las Vegas, City of Lights. Nothing new, on that front; the city still blazed like a beacon, even in the very middle of the night. The people still walked the streets. But now, there was a new attraction for people, who knew where to look. Tiny white flames, each no larger than a person's head, that seemed to float and bobble through the streets, just as any person would. They weaved drunkenly from street corner to street corner, following no pattern discernible to human eyes. They simply...moved. It was a queerly organic movement, not unlike a bee or a mosquito, but there was nothing obvious for them to feed upon. They simply patrolled the streets, with a hideously silent, focused intent.

And then, without warning, they simply seemed to streak upwards, all as one. Like drones suddenly converging on a threat to the hive, like a mindless beast suddenly sniffing the wind to notice an intruder, they all began to streak with unnerving speed and focus, towards the roof of one single building. There, a silhouette could be seen touching down, mere seconds before the first of the wisps arrived. It began to gabble at her in Italian, filling the air with alien, rushed noises...before another joined, and another, and another. They all spoke over one another, words overlapping, creating such a hideous sussurrus that it would've felt like being trapped in a large coliseum.

Finally, after nearly thirty seconds of this, there was a pause. The flames seemed to flicker and die down, before growing back to their normal size. This time, they all spoke as one, in a hideously choreographed line that one could scarcely imagine how they were able to perform it so effectively.

"He will see you. He wishes to see you. Your training begins immediately."

Stranger Still! [Yaksha/Boria] Empty Re: Stranger Still! [Yaksha/Boria]

Las Vegas hadn't always been like this. Boria Lee hadn't spent much of her time here since the Winter War and the ensuing ripple of spiritual awareness. Hunting was all about good habits, after all; chaos was the enemy of a safe hunt, and if there was one thing humans, and Americans in particular, did well, it was chaos. Simply put, for a long time there was a non-zero chance showing herself in a major city would provoke a xenophobic human with too much power for her to handle, or attract the attention of a local Shinigami due to the disturbance a fight with a spiritually active human could cause. Much safer to reside in the Forest of Menos, hunting the mindless hordes of Gillian, picking off stragglers like a bird of prey.

Now, though, Boria was more involved with the human world than before. Her deal with Yaksha, the deal to become Cerberus to his Typhus and help him with his own endeavors in exchange for his assistance, necessitated that she learn to navigate the world of Men once more. In particular, it required her to learn to navigate Las Vegas, before almost anything else. Wrapped in shards of liquid glass that flowed from her shoulders like a cloak, she still stood out, but with her hole concealed and her mask not quite as obvious as some of her kin, especially with her head down and bangs brushed forward, she could at least walk the streets without being called out as anything more than a strange woman, possibly some kind of demon.

What a world, where demons were less reviled than the spirits of fallen humans.

The Wolf walked up to the edge of the glass pyramid for what seemed like the fifth time today. It seemed like, as she paced around the damned casino's edge, all the roads led back to the Strip, and this damned glass monstrosity was tucked in the angle of the Strip, so the Strip itself led to it. Which, while useful for finding this casino, was utterly unhelpful for learning the layout of the roads. When she reached a corner away from the main strip, the Hollow crouched, then leapt, propelling herself through main strength up the side of the building, feet lightly touching the angled glass over one of the steel supports on the corner. She'd never been clocked by a radar gun, but she expected that when she moved like this, she could reach some truly impressive speeds by mortal standards.

No sooner had she wrapped her flesh and bone arm around the lightning rod atop the casino than she found herself surrounded by a bunch of strange orbs, spouting off in licks of Italian, then something else, then dozens of other languages and not-languages all at once, before they stopped and delivered their pronouncement with all the finality of a priest pronouncing a man's last rites.

"Y'know, Typhus, there are less dramatic ways of calling a girl." Boria quips to the orbs, because really, in Vegas, there's only one he they could be mentioning. She casts her eyes about for the black box of Yaksha's own casino/home base, Original Sin. Finding it, she gathers her strength once again, pushes, and leaps, leaving the impression of two feet in the steel capstone of the pyramid. Her glass spreads behind her, cradling her upper torso and flaring into a wide V shape, catching air and slowing her fall so that she lands, not gracefully, but intact and on her feet, in front of Original Sin. After crashing to the ground in a predatory crouch, Boria slowly stands, glass forming into a facsimile of a functioning arm, and looks around for Yaksha. "You certainly love your theatrics, don't you? What's with the 'I am Legion' bit?"

Yaksha, The Überseele

Tens, hundreds, thousands of will-o-wisps drifted lazily after Boria as she entered the building, seeming to surround the place like lanterns, and then gently flickering. It lended an oddly organic lighting feel to the building, making its size hard to truly pin down; certainly, it was at least as large as some of the world's most impressive warehouses, large enough to house an army. It was so large, it staggered the eyes, and boggled the mind; it dwarfed the outside by an order of magnitude, possibly even more if the lighting was to be trusted.

From a distance off, a silhouette could be seen approaching, something that the flickering flames only faintly hinted at, without ever truly showing; it was like looking at the shape of an enormous creature beneath the ocean's depths, something that was always only barely out of sight. It approached Boria at a slow, lazy pace, and as it did wings unfurled from behind it. They were enormous, impressive things to behold, likely twice the size of a normal man's armspan apiece, and they were attached to the body of a creature that was, at most, a few inches taller than a typical human.

"Drama is my way of being. Misdirection by overstimulation, that's my method. I see no need to lie, or to hide. Merely bombard them with so much stimuli, they have neither the time nor inclination to sieve through it. With every word, with every motion, I dull one's senses to the truth. At that point, I needn't lie about a single thing."

There was a horrible wrenching sound in the air, something both organic and mechanical at the same time, like static played on the scale of giants, and suddenly the silhouette was standing directly in front of Boria. Yaksha's skin crawled with symbols and markings, things that seemed to squirm and wriggle even as they were watched. A few seemed to be german words, only to squirm and turn into kanji as she observed them. Combined with the constantly flickering mode of light, it gave the impression of the creature in front of Boria that it was constantly in motion, even as it sat totally still, watching her.

"Legion isn't even partly appropriate. I told you already, didn't I? I am Typhon. And these are my cute little snakes, each and every one. Is there some particular reason they should cease to be mine, just because they aren't clinging to me every moment of every day?"

This close, with the air reeking of Yaksha's spirit energy, it was abundantly clear; each and every flame was Yaksha. A tiny fragment of himself, a soul or a small amalgam of archetypes and identities, all crammed together.

"Starrk isn't the only one who could play games with his soul, you know. Although I'd love to compare notes with him."

Boria should have been intimidated by the creature before her. Since she'd last seen him, Yaksha had gone from an Adjuchas to a Vasto Lorde, and he looked all the more impressive for it, scripts both known and unknown whirling across his skin like a tapestry of meaning forever eluding her grasp.

She should have been horrified. She wasn't.

It was probably the knowledge that if he decided he'd gotten tired of her she was just plain fucked so what was the point in being afraid of it? As well be afraid of gravity.

She hated that feeling, that helplessness, even more than the fear. But still, it helped her stand her ground without shaking, so it was useful. Rule 1: never let them see you sweat. "Typhon didn't send a few dozen of them to deliver one message. I don't think so, anyway. I'm not a historian. You could have just sent the one." The Adjuchas shrugs. "This is new," she adds, indicating Yaksha's entire body. "I suppose congratulations are in order, but I also doubt you went to all that trouble to preen. Did you have something you needed from me? Or is this really just training?"

"I could've sent just one, but that would be rather like turning on the alarm in a single room of your home, n'est-ce pas? They're not actually sentient, Boria. They behave like automatons. And like automatons, they are intended to converge on things which stand out. Whether to send them praise, or to scare them off, they convey the depth of intensity to those who may otherwise find themselves unperturbed by a lone voice. These are my eyes and ears, Boria. In fact, I wouldn't consider it a stretch to say that I walk each and every street of Las Vegas, every hour of every day. I never sleep, and I never tire of what I see."

With the last words, something warm actually seemed to seep into his tone, as if the notion of watching streetwalkers plying their wares, and con artists attempting to find yet another mark to target, was somehow an endearing circumstance. His tone brought to mind a father reminiscing over a video of their child at an especially momentous event; it in fact seemed no different from hearing someone discuss the day their child graduated from high school, to enter the real world. His face was still completely hidden behind his mask, as with all hollows, but there was now a depth and breadth of expression in his eyes that had never been there before. He twirled around on one foot, swinging it out behind him to encompass the building behind him.

"I am all force and no finesse at the moment, Boria. And that irks me. For the longest time I have...backed away from fights. I have sought to fight in ways that are not befitting of a would-be king. If I am to stand first among equals, I must be an inspiration. I must serve as the gold standard which all hollows seek to strive towards. Not as a crushing, oppressive lord as Barragon does. Nor as a cold, distant figure that must be convinced to care at all times, as Aizen was. I must be a king that the hollows are proud to place their faith in. And it's for that reason I ask you to be my first comrade in arms, Boria. I've built a coliseum here, one large enough to house fights of rather spectacular force and scale. I would appreciate an opportunity to stress test it, before I start engaging in fights on a non-stop basis. Or I suppose, to put it a better way..."

He inhaled, his eyes turning manic and delighted for a split second. The full weight of his spirit energy surged outwards, turning the area around them into a swamp, his voice growing far less dulcet and gaining deeper, heavier octaves. It was as if he were speaking from three or four throats now, as he stroked a clawed hand slowly across one of his newly-formed horns.

"Before I thrust myself into a battle for life and liberty...I think I'd like to fight for the pursuit of happiness. Isn't it always said that you're supposed to enjoy flexing your muscles and cutting loose, every now and again? Ah...but 2500 years leaves habits very hard to break. I guess I'm asking you to humor me, until I feel comfortable giving my beloved children the thrashing they so richly deserve."

Stranger Still! [Yaksha/Boria] Empty Re: Stranger Still! [Yaksha/Boria]

Boria's eyes practically light up as she realizes what this is about. Beyond all the games and philosophy, beyond politics and plans, what the real goal of the day is for the both of them; today is a day to play, but not like humans. No debauchery, no food, no wine, no sexuality, none of those mortal trappings that each fill the void for just a brief instant in the grand scale of things. There was a reason Yaksha had made this arena. There was a reason he'd wanted to; Hollows weren't humans. Hollows weren't prey animals. And right now, Boria wanted to play like a predator.

"My, my, Yaksha, you sure know how to get a girl interested," she fairly growled, strolling past him and towards the arena. "I might not be as strong as you, but if you're asking me to show you how to fight like a hunter and not just another Menos, I can do that." There was no talk from her of rules or mercy. That was pointless between them; she couldn't really hurt Yaksha, and he wouldn't kill her, and anything but killing and breaking masks would heal in minutes or hours. It was taking everything she had to force herself to move normally through the dense reiatsu the Vasto Lorde was emanating, but that too was important training. People could fight alongside Gotei captains if they'd trained with them. Ichigo Kurosaki hadn't crushed his allies when he'd slaughtered his way through Las Noches. You could obviously get used to certain individual reiatsu signatures, and she would need to if she was going to fight with Yaksha, instead of for him like some kind of servant.

Besides, where was the fun or the honor in just rolling over for someone stronger? Yaksha might be more than her, but she was still Boria Lee, and that's really all she needed to be if she was going to have fun with this.

She stepped into the arena Yaksha had constructed, Kristallnacht shards fragmenting ever smaller and orbiting her slowly, a razor sharp, bright blue and night-black cloud floating through the air like some kind of cosmic dust as she raised her one real, flesh-and-bone arm and focused herself. "Just to be perfectly clear," she asked before the brawl began, "You did make this place to stand up to a Cero, right?"

Yaksha, The Überseele

Yaksha walked alongside Boria in silence, his aura of oppressive force never wavering in the slightest as they approached the scene of their fight for the day; it was surrounded on all four sides by lapping darkness, that seemed to tide in and out like waves on the ocean, pulled by some force no one could even begin to imagine. He walked after her, hands resting by his side, and each of his horns gently twisting and writhing, as reddish scrawls appeared and disappeared along their lengths over and over, writing themselves and then being erased. He inhaled as soon as they stepped inside, and nodded once, curtly.

"Gran Rey Cero, in fact. It would take forces greater than those used in the Winter War to cause damage to the human world from here. One day I'll even tell you how."

He rested right across from her, simply watching in absolute silence as she took her position across from him. He never moved, never made a single attempt to take the initiative; if anything, it was hard to even believe he was awake, so still was he as he examined her. He didn't speak a single word for perhaps thirty seconds, before he reached up towards his head, breaking off one of the horns...which quickly melded around his hand in a shape resembling an arm-guard, and forming into a slender blade very similar to a rapier. He took a stance across from her, quite sloppy in its execution, and canted his head to the side.

"Do you believe the old adage that whosoever moves first loses? I've always wondered. I do confess to being more of a reactive sort than an active one."

He flicked the blade through the air just once, causing a tiny coruscation of lights to float off of it, as he took up his defensive stance.

"At your convenience, then."

Boria hummed her intrigue at Yaksha's boast of the arena's durability. "I might just have to learn that. It sounds like the kind of technique with more than one use." Flickers of cerulean reiatsu flickered through the cloud of glass shards, arcing from piece to piece in slow motion, like electricity made liquid. If Yaksha was going to just stand there, then she saw no reason she couldn't prepare a Cero.

She was even more interested as he broke one of his
horns free, turning the body part into some kind of sword. "I don't share that idea, no. Decisive action is what kept me fed in the Forest of Menos. A Gillian is a formidable opponent if you allow it half a chance, but executing it the second it spots you is easy." With that, she moved forward, glass forming up into a facsimile of a fanged maw before her own, unique Cero fired from it, a beam of razor-sharp edges, hundreds of tiny variations in the normally uniform ray. She didn't wait and watch, either, instead attempting to approach Yaksha from the side, a pair of curved blades forming from her cloud of shards and scything inwards like scissors. "You are a Hollow, reaction is beneath us. Predators act. Prey react."

Yaksha, The Überseele

Yaksha's head never moved from its spot, his eyes narrowing only slightly as he watched the faint interplay of light along her glass facsimile of an arm, forming into fangs and even opening in a display so theatrical, Yaksha almost expected to hear an actual roar from it as the attack launched. He rose his unarmed hand in a negligent gesture, devoid of any real intent or malice behind it. He seemed to care about as much about her attack as one would about a fly, flinging out his own hand, and sending a scattering of bala, nearly one dozen tiny flickers, each a deep and regal shade of purple, striking against her attack and slowing it ever so slightly...just enough that it arrived a split second after Boria herself did, keeping a significant distance between the two of them, as any intelligent opponent would. But as her attack approached, Yaksha disappeared in a cacaphonic crackle, one of her blades shattering under the force of her own cero, the other biting deep into his hip where his leg was...

Where his leg had been, and new rested an empty shell that seemed to encompass nothing but flesh, falling forward with a hideous slowness that brought to mind an iceberg about to crash into someone. Yaksha's sigh could be heard in the faint resonating echoes of the sonido, as new flesh seemed to be creeping along the musculature of his leg, where a segment about the size of a china cup had been carved out by her blade as he had moved behind her. He inhaled slowly, blade by his side, still pointed straight at the ground as he looked at her.

"I am no Gillian. Nor am I a predator. This is not Hueco Mundo. I heavily advise you to change your operative mindset, and quickly. I have no intention to kill you, nor the desire. I'm holding back as much as is feasible. But unless you can impress me soon, I am going to start removing limbs, and pin you to the floor like an insect. I think one thousand years should be enough time to learn your lesson, don't you?"
