The Dragon Rising

Oda Tatsuya
おだ たつや

She had pretty good strength that was something he couldn't of predicted truthfully. Tatsuya had anticipated her being strong but this was relatively beyond what he expected. Deflecting his blow with both hands was impressive and perhaps even more so interesting. He'd gotten the impression she wasn't light given his moments touching her. She was indeed impressive and perhaps more so fascinating. Her sword skills were good though even a novice would block something dangerous. But her skill in not being pressed into the ground or taken apart. That was something else entirely showing her being worthwhile. Tatsuya decided he'd show her proper respect as it was polite. She commented his style used strength, though that wasn't completely accurate. Tatsuya smiled a bit as he sensed her energy increase when the blind fold came off. A suppressor of some sort it would seem, though he guessed it was about time he stopped playing around. As she began to push against him a bit he experienced the sensation of her strength.

Tatsuya made a choice to release the deadlock early to allow her to keep her footing most likely. It was about time he showed his cards as he let his reiatsu flow normally. The ground began to steam and melt beneath him as heat came out. Tatsuya didn't release his zanpakuto or exercise his power. His natural reiatsu was moderately hot to begin with. It would be difficult for most to avert the next strike she'd sent out. Tatsuya wasn't a gentle man and could somewhat keep up with her movements. Ward off the blow would of been harder had he not been a bit more skilled. Tatsuya could sometimes predict the flow of movements in an enemies style. Avoiding her attack he'd stepped off to the side of it now. This blow and angle seemed to have a double edged move. Tatsuya wouldn't have a lot of time to react as he could detect danger in that move. Her swordplay was remarkably similar to Tsubasa's in a way. Their were elements of trickery to it in many ways that were fluid. You couldn't allow your eyes deceive against this woman at all.

Upon ward off the blow Tatsuya brought his sword down to the female's left hip. The heat coming from his body and such would represent a taxing element for her he imagined. But he'd decided to fight her using his reiatsu finally. He'd not frequently given such a respect to an enemy. Even Damien when he was a child had to work for it. But her skills reminded him so of his pupil when he began and found his road. The matter of her attack had been avoided from what he could tell. He'd not begun placing all his cards on the table just yet. Tatsuya could use Nobu if things became brutal or if the A.I thought odds were poor. Avoiding her strike was the key part of this aiding him escape. Striking as he avoided while her blade came down was what's more important. His blade if it connected would cut and knock her back several feet. Her moves were strikingly similar to Tsubasa's in some ways that were surprising. Tsubasa prided himself on things like this that didn't really make sense to Tatsuya.

Experience was the vastest difference in one thing. Tatsuya had been taking part in battles for fifteen hundred years without a reprieve. Numerous swordsman and even Tsubasa himself had stood before him. Allowing his body to know things based on the sensation he felt through the blade. These two weren't unique beings to the point that cut would send her flying unless she did something. It sounded like a cannon going off despite him using one arm instead of two. Tatsuya wasn't trying to kill her or anything. Merely to demonstrate her the respect due to her as a fellow wielder of the blade. Her question came out and he could smile a bit as he thought about it. "Your blade is more authentic, Tsubasa relied heavily on tricks and gimmicks when wielding his blade. " Tatsuya said softly as he described his pupil's style softly. While the style was fast and capable against swordsman and most enemies. It held a critical flaw in Tatsuyas mind that couldn't be overlooked by anyone.

It lacked the purity and focus it should of held.

The Shinigami Doll

Artist: Carrotwine - Song: Dark Side Of The Road

Without a doubt, Tatsuya was in a league of his own. There was no point in comparing him to other swordsman whose skill she had analyzed, or even her own. Instead, she simply highlighted the differences in his style, and what seemed important and useful as she made notes in her training files. Though the Doll did possess a relatively advanced skill with the blade, a grace that complimented and the strength to boot, her acquaintance had his own unique set of traits that made him in invaluable resource in such a way. Regardless, their blades had met for a few seconds top, though it had been more than enough time to try and catch a glimpse of what her eyesight unfortunately couldn’t provide.

There was its own unique form of beauty in the art he employed. Sure, the definition and comparison likely escaped his own understanding, but not hers. He had a style that was in some ways similar and different to hers. And while Angel couldn’t say she’d try to model hers after his, it was for sure that she’d borrow some of the elements from his to try and add to her own, creating a more complete her in the process. To her surprise, Tatsuya actually move off from the blade lock, evading her swing and going for her hip. While the girl had certainly accounted for the move in her calculations, she hadn’t placed it very high in the set of probabilities. Besides, they were close enough in terms of power that reacting would require doing so at a moment’s notice or suffer the consequences, and she did.

Her hand would reach out to try and meet the blade, and potentially stop it. Of course, under just about any circumstance that wasn’t the smartest of moves; it was plain stupid. However, either due to her own lack of care for her well-being or the skills she possessed, she deemed it as an okay reaction. The Doll knew Tatsuya wasn’t swinging at his very strongest in an instructional spar. And while her gloves were made to mimic the defensive capabilities of the Hierro in Arrancar, not even that coupled with her strength would negate the entirety of the sharp blow. The blade would stop, that much was for certain. However, from the corner of the glove a stream of a bright green liquid would seep out for a few seconds before stopping. In more than one way that was her blood, but the flesh mending drug had made sure to close up the wound that was still essentially out of sight.

“My apologies for grabbing your blade like that,” mentioned Angel before assuming a less battle ready position. “I’m aware of different strategies and how to perform a variety of moves under different circumstances. But why was your choice to hit there? I’m curious.”

Angel would hear him out, making sure to record a fragment of his words for later viewing and further perusing. Once he had his said, she’d simply acknowledge his compliment, delivering a soft smile as her means of thanking him. But, once more ready for the sparring encounter, Angel would have a very different approach this time around. Her hand had healed, but in the little time she got to tussle up against him she had been able to calculate a fraction of his drive and strategy. It was barely enough to scratch the surface but it gave her some insight in how to progress. And, if Tatsuya could see through her maneuvers, show her how she could improve and even best her skill, then it would have been worth it all along.

Her blade would swing diagonally and before her in a downward angle from one side, and diagonally on an upward angle from the other. Both would be done up and towards Tatsuya. And while she wasn’t expecting to hurt him or create any lasting sort of impact from the maneuver, she had intended for it to keep there, and unable from fleeing. If that was the case, the Doll would spin her body like a top, moving so quickly and so graciously one could have thought she was as light as a feather. It was a true testament to the work that had been put into her complex design. More importantly however as she spun, on her free hand, yet another golden ring of reishi would appear, projecting a katana into her hands. This one was possessed a blade that eclipsed the former, with a total length that was just slightly larger than she was tall. The spinning and momentum would add more speed and physical might to a being that already possessed strength in spades. The first blade, the newest one would aim to try and clash down on him, almost as if to slice him in in two even halves starting at the skull. The other shorter blade would immediately follow, adding yet more strength and an extra measure of danger as the shorter reach threaten to slice through the surface of his skin the other had purposely ignored.

The Dragon Rising

Oda Tatsuya
おだ たつや

Her movements were good along with the choices she imployed. He'd certainly give her a passing grade as a warrior. Her sword skills were rather impressive and relied on a fluidity combining strength and speed. From what he could tell she was durable and strong as well. When he felt the glove touch his blade as she reached out to grab it. An interesting action and choice in terms of things. He'd used his body to catch blades before with muscle control. Her hand wasn't like normal skin he could feel it through his sword. It didn't have the disconnect most did from it as he could feel everything. Sometimes when people give up enough humanity they get something in return. Tatsuya gave up mostly his life to fight and scrap his way to a freedom. Starting out as basically a human shield for just troops. Swinging his sword into every type of thing you could fathom. Fifteen hundred years of swinging a sword at things and adjusting. She let go of his blade as he brought it to her side noticing her posture. His eyes looked at her taking in each detail of her form now. She had an interesting question of why the hip. It was true he could have gone for her head or perhaps her back. Something more clean and precise perhaps neat in that regard of it. But the question of why was an amusing one people asked. Swordsman needed a short memory sometimes in a way. If you count ever defeat or scar you obtain. You will stop in the very tracks you are moving. But he couldn't deny a bit of amusement at the question. So he decided to give her perhaps an answer that seemed best. "I could tell you a technical reason and sound really smart. But the truth of most things is it's instinct that makes us move. I am not out to kill you or do something like that. As a swordsman, I move with my blade as an extension of myself. That felt like the best choice for me and my blade." Tatsuya having finished giving her an explanation of his actions brought his blade to his shoulder. Before a familiar hand touched his shoulder though not revealing herself before the female.

"Tatsu, how about you show her a zanjutsu technique so she can learn more." It didn't seem like a question and more of a suggestion from Amateratsu. His eyes watched as the female came and began to take in the surroundings. The area was fairly clear of people and such so he could do something. She wasn't big enough for the killing stroke to be used effectively on her. The weighted strike could be useful or perhaps a blast. Tatsuya normally didn't like using his full power in such places. Bystanders and people often got in the way causing trouble. But he suspected Nobu would let him know if such was the case. Judging by her body and how she moved it would be a cut from one side to the other around the shoulder. He could allow it to hit and counter afterward with something. But she'd come to him to witness swordplay and a technique wasn't a bad idea. Bringing his sword in front of him he took a traditional kendo like stance.

He needed to use footwork here at the moment to move around. Her aim was to prevent escape or movement. Perhaps he could use the force she was generating against her? No that seemed rather unlikely as her style employed some graceful moves. Nothing so clumsy that he could do that really without effort. HIs reiatsu continued to flare burning the ground and such under his feet. The heat he gave off was rather intense and could melt most things. He had one chance as the blade came down to make a move. Tatsuya couldn't avoid it entirely to show her this technique properly. She was going to land a blow and find out how hard his body was. Tatsuya's skin was tough to cut and seemed to cause sparks as the blade ground against his flesh. Cutting the fabric slightly as his sword was brought down with immense force causing the sound of an explosion. Blood trickled down his frame as smoke filled the area from the sheer force of his two-handed swings.

As the smoke began to clear away his top half of his kimono fell to the ground from the damage. It must be noted the amount of force in front of him was strong enough to blast rubble around him away. Even the ground in front of him had been shattered for several yards ahead. Tatsuya's upper torso was able to be seen as the smoke cleared. The female's spin attack would be hard to accomplish as he'd entered an attack as the female's blade struck him. Showing her a technique in the process but something else soon. His body felt stronger from the damage she dealt with him. "Sorry about that, my zanpakuto suggested showing you something. A technique of sorts I had for a rainy day I guess..the place is sturdy enough so that's good." Tatsuya hadn't really begun to use more proper zanjutsu techniques because they involved lava. He rubbed his jaw glancing from left to right as he sighed a bit. This location was in a rather populated area so fighting here was risky. People were around so his reiatsu began to quiet down.

"I don't think we should go much further, I'm rather restricted here and I think you are also. We can't fight this properly due to those around us." Tatsuya brought his sword to his sheath slowly as he glanced at his clothing. His scars on his body and the sheer muscles on him clearly visible. The man looked like he'd come out of a wood chipper and her attack revealed more of him. Sword wounds of hundreds of kids were on his body. Tatsuya clearly didn't remove injuries when he got them. Not till recently did his people start with stuff like that. He glanced around him rubbing his jaw a bit the location of Karakura wasn't suitable for duels. It would lead toa rather messy thing from here or there. But it was interesting to get wounded by someone. He got a pretty good sense of her when they clashed. She was a good kid and would bring about some interesting swordplay in the future. Rubbing his neck he didn't know what would come about of it all.

The Shinigami Doll

Artist: Carrotwine - Song: Dark Side Of The Road

“I see, would you have aimed your sword somewhere else if this was a battle to the death?”

The question wasn’t as easily answered as one would think. Naturally, if it was to the death, hitting a vital organ like the heart, or cleaving through the head would be far more appropriate. However, one needed to remember that any fighter worth their salt would try and have the most delicate of areas heavily guarded. So, while those areas could perhaps be ideal, the layers of protection might have made it an unlikely target nonetheless. Perhaps her hip would still be a favored spot. She was simply curious as to how his mind worked, and how it interlaced with the way he handled his blade in battle.

The next actions would be rather telling, both for him and her. It looked as though Tatsuya was about to employ a very different style, or rather a different approach to deal with her onslaught. That fact on its own meant that her own maneuver had been enough to prompt such a thing, and that was a good thing. As she closed in, she noticed one of her sword swings actually managed to hit right over his shoulder. Still, she hadn’t accounted for him having such a sturdy physical body. To be fair, had she made the hit two handily, it would have been a rather gruesome and scary outcome, but that wasn’t the case. The girl possessed unreal levels of physical strength, but she was only using one hand, and Tatsuya had a diamond like skin. In essence, it translated into a cut that couldn’t have been more than an inch or two deeps. It was certainly enough to be noticeable and cause bleeding, but it was nothing that would put him in grave danger, save for the potential waves of pain he might experience thereon.

More importantly however was his own counterattack. He had chosen the calm stillness of a kendo lack stance, which she knew given her downloads to translate and into a rather speedy and powerful delivery. But unfortunately, there was very little she could do at the time. Had she known beforehand she would have chosen a different approach, but it was too late. The speed she carried, and the momentum that pushed her along could not be stopped that easily. And even if she could, all she would managed was to run up on him and meet the same end that if she hadn’t. As such, his two-handed swing would actually hit her over her shoulder, in roughly the same area she had hit him.

Like Tatsuya, Angel possessed an incredible tough and durable body, the magnitude of which he was just now going to witness. Crystal and Tsubasa had made sure to engineer her body in such a powerful and durable fashion as to endure some of the harshest of physical punishments. And while that area wasn’t covered with the anti hierro items like her boots and gloves, it was incredibly resilient nonetheless. Still, she was dealing with an extremely powerful opponent that was very well acquainted with the blade and how to use it. Coming unscathed after being hit was nowhere near the probability readings she had scanned at the moment. Instead, as she was pushed back on her feet several feet, the two would be able to notice the rather jarring outcome. The cut had indeed been made, roughly of about four to five inches down her shoulder. It was both a testament to Tatsuya’s power and Angel’s resilience, as both had likely expected their power and resilience to had done more respectively.

“That was Kendo. I can’t say I should be surprised, but I am. Nicely done.”

As she said this, a strange glowing green liquid leaked out from the cut, almost as if it was her blood. For anyone else, the pain from such an injury would have the crawling on the floor, crying and screaming for the agonizing torture to end. But to the Doll, she only seemed surprised to see it, almost as if she hadn’t noticed it had it not been for the liquid she felt running down her body. It would take a little bit, but it looked as though the outside of her shell closed up and healed, with time, almost as if the strange liquid was responsible for it; and it was. Thanks to Crystal and Tsubasa’s work, they had been able to replicate the sort of mending drug the likes of Mayuri had created centuries ago.

“That’s fine. Let us go to an area where you’re more comfortable. However, my blades don’t have abilities of their own, may I supplement them with reishi when we resume?”

She had a point. Angel possessed many blades of different kinds, but neither had a real ability like zanpakuto did. Instead she relied on effects from her reishi spells or kido to supplement her swords or fists and their use. The Doll was curious as to which location Tatsuya would pick, but she was patient. She could only guess it would be an area much further away from civilization, as to avoid potential life loss. It was likely an area that was rather open and large, as to allow them to let loose without feeling constrained. As she waited however, the girl would dematerialize her two swords once more, and create single one, much different than the rest. It seemed as though she wanted to try a different strategy when they resumed, and this one would do nicely for the time being.

The Dragon Rising

Oda Tatsuya
おだ たつや

This clash grew more fascinating as she'd been able to break through his muscles and skin. He'd hardened and worked tirelessly on his defense and such things. But he guessed even he had to give the devil their due. She'd been able to break through and cut him on the chest. Most men would have been done in by such an injury to the chest region. Susanoo had been broken by the girl and in an impressive way indeed. A new scar for the collection as he sheathed his zanpakuto and glanced at her. She'd been surprised by him utilizing Kendo at that point. Perhaps it was time he really showed her something special. Itto-Ryu would be what he'd go for on the next clash they held. But a single question did need answering where did these two go to fight? Tatsuya couldn't really use his strength here and nor could she. They'd of already destroyed a large portion. Making whoever ran this city very unhappy with them largely. Tatsuya didn't have the brains or smarts his pupil did at the time of his inception. " Thanks for the compliment, but I think most warriors realize Kendo is handy." He didn't know what people thought he was at the large end of things. Tatsuya was pondering as he glanced around his eyes scanning the area. His control had gotten better since those days. He didn't fight the way he'd had previously after all Stefan was right. As a warrior, he had much to learn and battles to fight as he went on. Warriors needed experience and duels as he smiled a bit now. It was about time he got more experience in this world facing many challenges in the future. "Know a good place to continue?" He said walking to her as he seemed to ignore the bleeding from his chest. Though by controlling his muscles he was able to stop it from flowing out freely. Tatsuya's body was trained to a physical peak of control and focusing on that alone. He moved his shoulders around a bit getting them loose. It had been a while since he'd had his match with Stefan.

But he realized something that made him begin an evolution. Soldiers and warriors weren't the same in the slightest. He'd spent fifteen hundred years as a hardened veteran of the Soldier lifestyle. Technique and skill weren't the most important thing anymore. They didn't matter as much as he thought meaning his focus had been misplaced in a way. Tatsuya had realized the control and situation had changed in a way few could fathom. Tatsuya didn't understand the journey Tsubasa had taken. His student was a warrior and not a soldier, that was the key difference between them. He'd thought about his purity as a warrior and keeping swordplay as such. Stefan opened his eyes to another level of purity that had been missing. Strength and Speed were the objects which created possible technique and skill that came later. Tatsuya had much experience and study with the blade. But instead of using it and focusing on his warrior skills he'd refined. He acted like a soldier at times and decided to do strange things.

But regardless of that he would follow her to the next location and wait for her to prepare before drawing his sword. She had a reishi infusion she wished to perform and her weapon was interesting. Giving him an idea of the shape that it held as he moved not bothering to worry about things. For now, it was focusing on how he wields his sword and the next step before him. Everything was about capturing the next moment before him. She'd asked him a question previously which he decided to answer her now. "In some ways, going where you think is better has advantages. Trying to aim for the head or vital spots when they are more guarded is risky. But I guess most know that by default and understand where they protect most.

The Shinigami Doll

Artist: Carrotwine - Song: Dark Side Of The Road

Though she couldn’t see it, the mental image she perceived made it known that Tatsuya had been cut, and had been bleeding just as Angel had earlier. Granted he might not have healed as fast as she had. Still, though she could have offered her help to heal him, she opted against it. If his reputation and skill was any indication, a cut like that was nothing to him. It looked worthy of attention, at least when she thought of a normal individual, but there was nothing normal about him, and it showed. Without a doubt, the cut and the light trickles of blood on him were likely like a leaf hitting his chest or the rain running down his body. It probably wasn’t, but given the unmoved and stoic vibe she perceived, it might as well have.

“I think I have a location. It seems to fit our needs.”

During that time, Angel had managed to use her gps function to check the nearer and farthest areas that could realistically house their sparring. She had found an area, not a long though speedy travel from their current location. The area was rather large, covered in nothing but a reddish brown dust. In fact, had they not known any better, it could have easily been confused with the Martian surface. The nearest town was out at least 50 miles away in any direction. It essentially allowed to them to let loose to an extent without having to worry too much about their surroundings.

“I see. There is use in different arts and different weapons and different shapes. Let us find the use in our time.”

Angel understood what Tatsuya had told her, and she knew it well and to heart. However, there was something special and welcomed about hearing someone else say what you more or less already believed. The same could be said about Kendo. The droid had numerous arts downloaded and studied into her cyberbrain. But just because she know how they operated and how they best functioned did not always translate into practice in the most efficient of ways. Seeing her training partner stop and think, and choose a tactic was as memorable and unique an experience as having been cut by him moments earlier.

Moments later, the doll would take a few steps away from the shinigami, but not before offering him a friendly smile as a sort of good luck sign. She’d walk enough until she figured she had roughly 15 feet or so between them. She wasn’t expecting to use any ability besides her swordsmanship, but if the spar became too intense and it called for it, she was willing to reach into her toolkit for something more appropriate. With one hand she move the large cleaver-like blade to one side, the tip smashing into the ground with great force to the point of cracking it for several inches and moving up a small cloud of dust. The real telling notion however was that Angel had simply nudged it, a testament to the weight and power of the weapon. But more than that, it spoke to the level of physical strength of the droid that had caused by simply holding the handle somewhat flimsily with just one hand.
