Mirja, The Wolf of Eden

The Book. The Book The Book! Yea, Mirja had no idea what she was doing here. Chinese literature and learning aids were scattered about her table, and she felt pretty confident that she could speak, read, and write it now - she had a strange mental tick when it came to learning things - but the book remained basically gibberish. She could pull out a few words that meant something but most of it was to old to make sense of, like reading Old English and expecting your 24th century linguistics to translate it perfectly. Which it didn't.

So, after she exasperation, she picked up the book, and took it over to a guy that she knew, that was really smart. Walking into 3rd was always a little strange, like she was disturbing a nest of highly trained monkeys, and those monkeys stopped work to stare at the strange intruder. The musclehead that was just good for punching things and shouldn't be in the smart section of the Seiretei because she just didn't have the mental capacity to understand anything that was going on there. Probably paranoia, but over the years Mirja had developed a lot of that.

Eventually, she walked up to Zeda's desk, and dropped her book on it, to get her attention away from whatever leching he was doing, or if he was having a nap with his eyes open or something.
"Morning Zeda~! I got something for you. I need your mighty brain on an expedition of language!" she exclaimed, grinning broadly as she opened it and launched right in without waiting for anything resembling a response. "So I've managed to get a bit out of the book, there are repeated mentions of Wudang-an-han which is basically a conceptualisation of how your body and your soul interact with each other in cool meshed buggerations. There is also several mentions of Reiki which is the idea of your physical energy, but the rest is gibberish. And so I need your help"

THE BOOK!? WHAT BOOK! Zeda was clueless to this whole thing as he was in his lab working on those smart people things, stuff that less smart people don't tend to care about since they don't understand. Nevertheless he had left a gigai in his place on his office, it was there to make it look like he was in his office while he worked in his lab but when Mirja arrived she would see this gigai "poof" in a comical display of smoke and Zeda would appear in its place confused since before he had just been running high-level calculations in his mind.

"Huh? Ah.... Hi Mirja, language? Well of course I can help... but you do know technology is already there and able to do whatever I can do."

Despite his answer Mirja seemed to not care at all to this as she ignored him and forced the book right into his attention, taking the book from her as she told him of the contents that she could understand the references to Chinese concepts. Looking at the book and flipping through the pages he turned to look at Mirja before sighing.

"So... you have a book, that references Chinese myth. Now as there are is a lot of information on the interaction of spirit and body from that region I am going to need to know if it can be narrowed down to a more specific idea.. like Chakras. And the practice of Reiki I believe follows the same principle of Kaido just that energy is transferred via touch to prompt healing in the target. Alternately the way Shinigami harness their energy is similar to the synchronisation of spirit and body, in the form of zanpakuto as well as the use of reiatsu to heighten our body's capabilities."

The captain was not often required for this kind of work, hell he wasn't often bothered for tasks like this at all and it was only by the fact that Zeda knew Mirja that he was taking time to try and assist her with this translation, but what made the dialect so hard? These days Google Translate was so much more accurate than it used to be, so why was he targeted for this job.

Nevertheless he stood there reading the book, or attempting to read it while the wolf girl spoke and kept speaking about the topic of the "book" that was so important to Mirja that she needed it translated.

"Isn't there just a translated copy of this book?"

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden

The poof was a bit strange, but maybe it was something he put in place to look all formal and respected while he did something elsewhere. Zeda was certainly a guy that really liked doing things, as opposed to being sat at his desk and just looking official without actually knowing what was going on. So she just let him poof and listened when he started talking about the book.
"If it was normal Chinese, I wouldn't need a machine. I learned Chinese last night. But, this is kind of like Old English version of Chinese. Ofer hron rade, you know? If I stuck this into a machine, It would tell me that one line said 'your goat is purple' and that is if I got anything at all"

She stood up, and came around the desk to look behind him, staring at the ancient book in front of her.
"Well, I've dated the book around two thousand years old, minimum. Found it in an ancient vault, locked inside a stasis box. If there is a translated version of this book, and not just some modernized bullcrap, I'm thinking it will be harder to find than this book was. World War Three was not kind on libraries. It's basically unique written in a language that the translation of would be incredibly difficult today. So I brought it to the smartest guy I knew to help me. Because if anyone is going to have the brains to be able to pull meaning from these two millennia symbols, then it is most probably going to be you. Or at very least you'll know someone who could help, or make a machine that can work it. I've enticed you now, so you will have to finish it or it will always niggle in the back of your mind"

Zeda's crimson gaze had already established that the dialect wasn't modern Chinese, his Phantomtech's translation wasn't working and so he tried to establish if there were any other dialects like this one. His view was crowded with pages of script and other words as the analysis tried to draw parallels from other ancient references. While his vision was impaired from the data he quickly ran it in the background so he could focus on Mirja, after all why would he waste his time looking at books when there was a much more prettier sight he could look at while working.

"Well. You assume all information was lost in World War Three, while most physical knowledge might've been lost the digital imprint of the internet which for the most part survived allowed for information to survive but you are right, there are a variety of things that were not able or got around to being digitally recorded and so they will be lost to history or known by those who were there at the time."

Going over to his desk he'd take a seat and wait while the text was analysed and gesture for Mirja to have a seat on his desk. He'd learnt that she wasn't the lightest person and so perhaps the desk might hold her weight better than a chair, it was after all the strongest piece of furniture in the room but Zeda couldn't say strongest thing in the room since that would be him although if the lady wanted to sit on him he wouldn't be one to say no. He did have a reputation to uphold after all.

"So Mirja, seventy-percent of the analysis done and I have narrowed it down to a specific dialect although there are holes in this translation since the time period of this variant wasn't fully translated or if it was then it wasn't recorded and was lost, like you suggested during the war."

Zeda sat there mulling over this, he was curious as to its links between the body and soul, the author must've been very knowledgeable and possibly a shinigami, or spiritual being since Zeda found references to a Kaido technique which used the properties of Reiki to perform for which the author might've used or witnessed.

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden

Mirja leaned on the desk after she was invited, and gave a soft sort of smile. It was nice to lean against things and not have them creak and groan as she was some monster made out of Iridium and bad thoughts. Now it was just bad thoughts. Which she was working to get rid of, but it wouldn't be that easy to just discard. So she'd listen to Zeda, and nod softly at his words.
"The Internet has done a pretty good job of surviving. But the much older things were still only found in books, and nobody bothered to upload it to the internet because there was so much other stuff to do. And then Hollows came and had no respect for classic literature, and people were busy not dying to save and secure the books. So when we find one that is actually cool, there is so much work needing to be done just to read it" she muttered, before getting up when he announced his cool machines had nearly done the work. She walked over to read the newly translated variant, and couldn't help but smile as she got through it more and more.

"Wow. This, looks like...Wudang Tai Chi. I looked into it a while back but it was to tame and casual for my taste, so I picked up Bājíquán instead. But, this is not your grandma's Wednesday Evening exercise. This, reads more like the original. The superhuman martial arts that gave birth to the legends of the Orient. It might need a bit of improvisation at some points, nothing is perfect, but...you know I think we have just found something that is very interesting indeed. It doesn't look like something even I can learn over night, but just having this...I knew I was right to bring it to the smartest guy in the Seireitei"

With his rough translation finished the book's elusive secrets had been brought out into something more legible for Mirja to read, it had required cross-referencing of a variety of dialects to form of pretty legible copy of this book. In translating it he had also been able to read a bit of the contents which did get him a little interested. Nevertheless it was Mirja's book and so he wouldn't keep it from her, but it didn't mean he wasn't going to play with her as he offered her the translated copy before quickly bringing his hand away teasingly.

"Mirja, why don't you bring me something more of a challenge next time, that book was easier than seducing Captain Ibiki and when you said super, super hard challenge that was most certainly not a challenge. Dear me Mirja, the things I do for you."

A smug grin had painted itself on his face as he tossed her the book.

"Is there anything else that you need? Don't feel like it'd put me out since I really haven't had much to do and it's rather boring and dull being a captain. So if you don't have much on you don't have to leave immediately."

Mirja, The Wolf of Eden

As much as he tried to tease her, the book would be gone from his hands before he realised Mirja had moved. This book, was the most precious thing in the world right now, and so she was a bit zealous about having it and learning what she could from the internals. Her silver eyes shone with delight at what she could learn from here, and even the crack about Ibiki didn't get a rise out of her, because she knew exactly how she was going to retort after safely tucking the book away in her Shihakusho. A broad wolf grin spread across Mirja's face as she looked at Zeda.

"It's not my fault you have an IQ of three billion. Translating a dead language is usually hard for people. But there is nobody I would trust with this more than you. Well, maybe Kisuke but he's kinda unpredictable and I'd probably get roped into buying a lot of something from his shop and staying for science" She muttered, going off on a tangent before recovering and grinning again, barely containing her excitement with the book now finally translated into words she could actually read.

"And with this book done now, I do have a lot on my plate, but hey, when I get it's secrets down pat, I'll make sure to come back and teach you. It looks really interesting, and with it, who knows? Maybe you'll actually win next time Zin comes knocking" She retorted, a flash of fang showing her incredibly cheeky side before turning to leave with her precious cargo. She was honest with her offer, since teaching Hakuda was really the only thing she could offer beyond making food and drink for people. Also Tulpa but that was another thing entirely...
