QUEEN OF CALAMITY

Artist: Kaki King - Song: Night After Sidewalk - Word Count: 958

The day of Umeko's ascension to the throne from her spot within the East's royal courts was a proud day for all whom had watched her come out of literally nowhere to secure a reign that she promised to be the most productive and rewarding rule under which the people of the Eastern lands had ever lived. Beings from all over the sugiuran kingdoms, as well as a number of beings who were simply long-time allies of the sugiurans, showed up to witness this momentous occasion. This event was also a first for another reason primarily, being that it was a very rare thing for a sugiuran who was not born into a noble house to end up ruling as a monarch. Things like this just goes to show not to judge a book by its cover, if anything else.

This book in particular was nervous as all get-out on the day in question. The young sugiuran noble was dressed to the nines in an outfit that didn't necessarily fit into what Umeko considered her usual style, but was tradition and fit very well with the religious themes and ideologies that the Eastern lands were typically managed on. The outfit in question would be recognizable by those who followed human customs as a traditional Chinese wedding gown. This dress hugged Umeko's figure closely, clasping tightly in front of her neck and covering her in a way that was much more modest than most celebration attire for females typically was in this day and age. The black, silver, white, and gold colors on the front all accented each-other, the pale beauty of Umeko's skin, and most of all the red of the fabric itself. Said colors were designed into intricate floral patterns spanning the length of the gown, creating a truly mesmerizing article of clothing for those whom were in attendance.

At the start of the proceedings, she had been placed at the head of the room, seated next to the head of the courts, who had been filling in as de facto ruler in place of a true monarch, while the doormen and other members of the staff that had been tasked to oversee this event made sure that all of those who would be attending had made it inside. Once all guests had been accounted for, the head of the courts had begun his speech. It was a long, rambling sort of speech. The kind that focused more on his own achievements as opposed to those of the woman that would be succeeding him. After his winded and haughty final words as ruler had been spoken, said leader finally got around to the crowning itself.

The room fell so silent that one might be able to hear a pin drop, the entire ballroom staring as the former Lord of this house removed the crown from his head, standing aside as Umeko stood gracefully from her seat beside the man, moving to sit in the head chair itself while the man lowered the piece of headgear on top of her bright, green hair, placing it just between the two identical buns she had put it up in for this event. As soon as the metal nestled against the girl's head, and the man's hands had moved upward into the air, a thunderous cheer was heard from the mass of people within the room as the music started up. Umeko stood from where she had been newly coronated, bowing to those around her and waiting for the room's noise to die down once more before she spoke, looking to her Guardian Beast, Avalon (who had been tasked by Umeko herself as head of security for this event, and who had been standing guard by the door in case of anything happening during the ceremony), for support. The blonde woman nodded from her place at the back of the room, and Umeko smiled before starting.

"I thank you all for this great honor. I can only hope that I can repay your faith in me by being an understanding, forthcoming, compassionate, and dependable leader that will fairly and justly earn all of the trust that has been placed in her. It is my great honor to stand before you all today.. but let us not worry ourselves more with ceremonies and speeches. Let us celebrate this occasion!"

And with that ending to her brief acceptance of her position, the music would start back up, this time a tune meant to be the first to signify that it was time for those who had attended to start dancing as opposed to simply standing around waiting at this point. As people slowly began to pick up on the queues one after another, the whole room was filled before too long with people truly enjoying themselves and their evening, dancing away to the tune of the live entertainment that had been brought in via a neighboring village.

Umeko moved from her place at the head of the crowd, waving dismissively in advance at where she knew Avalon was standing to signal to the Beast that she was fine being by herself for right now. The newly crowned ruler swiftly vanished into said crowd as she used her years of experience with stealth to remain as unnoticed as she possibly could while making her way toward where the drinks had been set up at the west side of the room. Umeko hovered over by the decoratively-clothed table, looking out over the crowd from this less conspicuous position as she simply observed the goings-on, content to merely watch and listen as opposed to actually taking part.

Artist: Homestuck OST - Song: Breeze - Word Count: 933

I feel a little bit out of place here, considering that I'm essentially just a random chick showing up to something so fancy... but I gotta start somewhere.

Kayta's arrival here wasn't really one to draw much attention, hell, to everyone here, it was just an excited sugiuran that managed to get into the main event of seeing the new Eastern monarch be crowned. Why bother coming here? She didn't really know, she came here for a much more selfish reason than just congratulating the lucky lady, she wanted to see how one should act in a position of power so she could learn for her own endeavors. Did that mean she didn't care? Oh heavens no, it just meant that she wasn't quite as charitable as others, and that she did still have one goal in mind. Doing everything she can to further her progress in claiming the Western throne. If too much time was wasted, it could end up being claimed by someone with no potential or ability to even be a symbol of faith and strength.

Enough needless thoughts to justify why she was even here, this was still a big moment for her own kind. The woman's attire seemed to spawn from the same place as Umeko's though with it's own differences. In what was modesty to the new monarch became confidence for Kayta. A deep red Chinese dress coupled with black floral designs dotting the surface held her assets in place, two small straps being used to keep the front together as a rather convenient opening lead to just enough cleavage to show that she knew how she looked, and she wasn't afraid to show it. As the dress travelled further down, it only seemed to get just a bit tighter before being cut at the sides, leading to every inch of Kayta's smooth, lovely legs to be shown and even move about as freely as she wanted. She hated constrictive clothing.

As the small little speech was given out, Kayta only seemed to relax and make herself as comfortable as possible. She did plan on mingling here since being social was typically a good skill. The woman was near the very back of the crowd, leaning against the wall as a single leg crossed over the other in front of her, arms crossed just underneath her burst as she stared onward to a rather cute sight. A small girly looking monarch with two big ol' buns making themselves known to the world. Which set of buns they were? Well, that was for Kayta to smirk at as the woman watched her slip away from the front of the room and seemingly disappear from the crowd. Just where would she be going?

She certainly didn't pop up in any other place, she just seemed to have poofed. Was it due to her size, or maybe she wanted to just fade away on purpose? Couldn't blame her, Kayta knew crowds could be a bit scary, but that's why she liked them so much. But where could have this new ruler gone? Ocean blue eyes scanned the crowds, her head tilting upwards just a bit to look for that bright green tuft of hair, fashioned into two buns. After a few moments of searching and staring intently, it did eventually pop out, dipping away from the crowds and heading over to the bar, a nice counter with drinks that Kayta would certainly love to enjoy.

How fucked up would it be if the tender said she couldn't drink and gave her milk instead? Pfft, I'd have to take a pic of what he'd look like after~

An amused grin took over Kayta's lips just as she pushed herself off of the wall and began to walk over to the counter where a certain lil' monarch was. Each step seemed to show off just a bit of cockiness, hip thrust to the side a bit as red high-heels clicked upon the ground, the red fabric that was 'covering' her legs flittering gently as arms remained at her side. A few glances towards her let her know that she definitely wasn't disliked and wouldn't end up being asked to leave, so with this confidence backing her, she approached possibly the most famous person at this entire get together.

A very smooth slide over beside Umeko herself would get Kayta her seat, gently slipping right into the stool, one leg crossing over the other with a bit of soft thigh showing on purpose as she stared forwards. Just what was Umeko looking at? The pretty dresses? Pretty people? She seemed so engrossed that maybe she hadn't been noticed yet due to her coming in from the side. Well, now's as good a time as any to introduce herself.

"They all certainly look happy, no? Dancin' and prancin', smiling and enjoying themselves in outfits that properly could afford rent for a few years. But why are you lookin' so hard your majesty? Shouldn't you be out there and showing off that cute face to everyone~?"

Kayta's gaze turned from the people to the monarch herself, eyes gazing downwards with the confident, cocky smile still plastered unto her lips. She even ended up shifting over to face her more clearly, one hand resting upon the table gently as the other arm placed it's elbow right on the table as she held her own head up. She certainly didn't seem threatening, but did seem rather eager to get a conversation going.

"Oh, sorry, the name's Kayta, I don't really have any fancy titles like the others, but you'll hear of my name all around soon enough~."

QUEEN OF CALAMITY

Artist: Kaki King - Song: Night After Sidewalk - Word Count: 1,245

Umeko didn't have the words to express how grateful she was for the bar being at this function. The availability of alcohol was a blessing in and of itself as events this crowded tended to make Umeko anxious and short of breath in a way that only inebreation seemed to be able to placate. As the queen reached the bar, the bartender gave her a look as if he was about to tell her to take a hike. However, he wasn't born yesterday nor was his home located directly under a rock and so it didn't take more than a cursory glance for his sharp look to morph into a more respectful acknowledgement. Umeko might look young, but she had been around for a very long time. The newly crowned monarch was older than even the kingdoms themselves, and more likely needed a drink more than ninety-eight percent of the other beings within the room.

Umeko looked resignedly at the man working and raised two fingers, signalling for him to slide her one of the mixed drinks that had been prepared in advance for this function. It was something that was a favorite of the court apparently. Umeko couldn't help but laugh as the bartender slid her the full glass. As far as she remembered, she had never even been asked about what drinks were going to be served. She hadn't been asked about the guest list. She hadn't been asked about the schedule. She hadn't even been asked about the time or date. The green-haired queen stared downward into the surface of her drink for a moment before taking a long and contemplative sip from said beverage. She coughed almost immediately after swallowing, not used to the burn after going so long without having consumed any sort of intoxicant. Umeko raised a hand to signal to the bartender that she was okay before wiping her mouth briefly, sighing before turning around and facing outward back toward the crowd, resting her elbows on the edge of the bar and leaning her weight back against it, cocking her hips as she did so. This crowd.. she hardly knew anyone here.. then again, she hardly really knew anyone at all.

Since having returned to the Sugiuran realm, Umeko found that finding good company was challenging. The only people she had gotten the chance to speak to so far had been advisors or subjects with no middle ground. All of them either wanted to control Umeko's life and decide what was best for her, or were afraid of her or Avalon and over-compensated in the venue of respectfulness or kindness as a side effect of this. This meant that no matter what walk of life people were coming from, it was almost a guarantee that they would be acting less than honest when interacting with the Queen.. and it meant that, typically, Umeko was forced to keep to herself. Since she had come back from her self-imposed exile with Avalon, the guardian beast had been the only one that Umeko had felt she was really able to trust. All others whom surrounded her either wanted a piece of the kingdom or a name to drop in conversation with their friends. It was exhausting.. and disheartening. Was it too much to ask for someone who wanted to talk to her just.. because?

Umeko's thoughts drifted in this manner for a good while, long enough that she didn't even notice the stranger approaching from the side until they had already seated themselves beside the monarch. Umeko noticed three things in order. The first was a smell so sweet it could've come from the garden of the Gods themselves. The second was the way that the stranger sat down, immediately drawing Umeko's attention to the leg that had crossed over which would've set off a red flag.. if Umeko didn't find the person in particular so immediately enticing. The second that Umeko's eyes came to rest on the knight's thigh, they had been encapsulated by the beauty of the woman who it belonged to. Her eyes began to trail up slowly as they widened only enough to visibly show her surprise at catching the attention of such a ravishing creature, taking in every curve, every visible bit of skin, and the body language that cooperated with her outfit in such a way as to create the perfect combination to ensure that if this had been a cartoon.. Umeko would've had to pick her jaw up off the floor. The third, and final thing that Umeko noticed though.. was her voice. As the knight spoke, Umeko could feel her heart skip a beat. Tall, dark, and with vocal chords that made the sweetest music Umeko had ever heard. Where had this figure been all her life?

Umeko smiled sheepishly, trying her best to mask the fluster that had overtaken her face as the woman complimented the Queen as well as introduced herself. The ruler kept a level expression, her eyes glinting with a hint of delight as her lips turned into the ghost of a smile, her eyes turning back to the crowd for a moment. "If I knew a single one of the guests in attendance beyond my own council, I absolutely would. However, all this.. flash and preening is for bureaucrats. I prefer observing.. waiting until these peacocks think no-one's watching and seeing who they really are in that moment.." The smaller girl smiled slyly as she turned her head, her eyes lifting to meet the knight's for the first time and immediately finding themselves lost within the buxom beauty's orbs. She tried to maintain her air of mystery and authority, hoping she could act confident enough to cover up how taken aback she was by the gorgeous vision that had appeared before her and livened up this drab event.

Umeko bowed her head briefly as a sign of respect and as a companion to her own introduction. "Good evening, Miss Kayta. I have no doubt that I will commit that name to memory, but I am curious.. why do you say it will be heard all over?" Umeko tilted her head slightly, allowing herself to be curious if only out of boredom alone as her smile became a bit more visible.. not as much sly at this point as it was hopeful, attempting to gauge whether or not this being was one of those who was just talking to her because of some hidden agenda or whether or not this conversation was brought about due to genuine interest. "Regardless.. I do not doubt that fact. You have the bearing of a noble, and soldiers would gladly fight and die for a commander with a voice as heavenly as yours." Umeko's smile gleamed as she continued. "I'm Umeko.. of the Zhilan clan, First Monarch of the Eastern Lands.. and I'm sure that introduction would have been a lot more impressive had the lead advisor not given it about half an hour ago.." She chuckled before waving dismissively, her eyes glinting with a kind of playful mischief that foreshadowed the kind of person Kayta was dealing with here. Umeko could only hope that the knight was up to the challenge.
