Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Tue Mar 25, 2014 12:02 am
Pale blue sky stretched endlessly in all directions with only small interruptions in its surface; a bird here, a cloud there: small things. Quietly a young shinigami lied on his back, black robes messy and strewn about his lithe, petite form while his amethyst eyes lost themselves in a world of imagination, painting his thoughts across the sky in his mind's eye. It felt uplifting and boundless, the freedom to think and believe in anything for a few moments while sifting through the drudgery of every day routine. Unlike most within their respective Divisions, Kit still had yet to do much in the way of missions besides a few simple, easy ones he came across; the lack of getting out made the young Shinigami prone to lazing around, daydreaming.

A small, black leather bound book rested between the fingers of his uplifted left hand while he quietly scribbled something upon the pages, eyes glancing occasionally skyward whenever his pencil stopped moving. Taking a moment to think, a gentle smile formed upon his pale pink lips, Kit shifting his body a little to draw more comfortably as some others walked by him, a few sparing the strange behaving shinigami a look before moving on with their own day.

Sighing happily after a few more moments of drawing and dreaming, Kit closed his book before letting it come to rest upon his chest, crossing his arms over it.

"It's so nice out," he softly murmured to himself as he ran a few fingers through his deep black, shoulder length hair, brushing his fingertips over a bright pink barrette topped with a matching cloth rose flower. Seconds after, a light breeze washed over him, his hair straining against the barrette in desire to splay messily across his pale countenance. Smiling with content and contemplating quietly, Kit left his journal to lie upon his chest, pulling out a worn paperback book from the depths of his robes, flipping it open midway.

The book itself was nothing special, just a romance novel filled with cliché and unbelievable circumstance; cover art featuring a bare torso of a male in exquisite shape, admittedly the primary feature that drove Kit to read the book in the first place.

Soft giggling emanated from the young shinigami as he read his book in his peculiar position on the ground, luckily not in the way of main foot traffic, but off to the side, utilizing the shade of a nearby building.

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Tue Mar 25, 2014 8:59 pm
It was mid-afternoon in Seiretei, the great fortress of the Gotei 13, defended to the death by all Shinigami who were loyal. Like ninety-nine percent of the time in Soul Society, today was a day of perfect weather. The blue sky stretched on endlessly in all directions, and it contained only a few small, thin, wispy clouds. The sun shone brightly in the sky. It radiated its heat energy down into the Seiretei, making it warm. It was about 75 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing Shinigami to walk around comfortably in sleeveless uniforms. All in all, it was a perfect day.

That day, Kyouhai Suzumori, a Shinigami of the Seventh Division, was in the Seiretei. Kyouhai was especially happy to be here since it was one of the few places he could call home, and he wasn't here much. Kyouhai was known to be very efficient on missions, so he was very often sent on them. After all, Kyouhai had been alive over 1,400 years. He could take care of pretty much any situation that could come up. Also, he had the power to go with his age. Although he kept it hidden, Kyouhai was easily powerful enough to wield Bankai and therefore become a captain. However, he wasn't one for responsibility, so he kept his power hidden and remained a normal, un-ranked Shinigami.

Kyouhai was happy to be here in the Seiretei, but he was also very bored. The fact was that there just wasn't much to do here on most days. "I really wish there was more to do... I love being in the Seiretei, my home, but there really isn't much to do around here. I wan't action, like fighting Espadas or something..." thought Kyouhai as he walked through the tiled streets of Seiretei. He'd left the Seventh Division barracks about an hour ago and was just looking for something to do.

As he turned a corner, Kyouhai heard a sound of giggling. It sounded almost childish to ears that were almost a millennium and a half old. Kyouhai pushed away the "cranky old man" inside him and went to see what was going on. In time, he came upon a young Shinigami reading what appeared to be a romance novel. The Shinigami was also sitting in a rather strange position. "Yo, Kyouhai, make that guy shut up, I'm trying to---" began Kyokuryuu, the spirit inside Kyouhai's Zanpaku-to. "Be polite and don't embarrass me, Kyokuryuu." thought Kyouhai. Now, Kyouhai turned his attention to the reading Shinigami. Speaking aloud, he said a rather informal greeting for a 1,401 year old man. "What's up, man?" he said.

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Flipping a page every few minutes, the 187 year old shinigami soon forgot about his surroundings. People strode on by without his notice or care, the sun heated up a portion of his uniform by his leg, though he ignored the discomfort and continued to read with that same dumb smile plastered onto his effeminate visage.

Even when a darker shadow broke over him, he only shifted slightly: unconsciously noticing a very, very faint drop in temperature that came with lazing in a stronger shade. Yet, the Sixth Division shinigami carried on with his reading, large eyes squinted a little more to make out the dark and faded text he'd read many times before. Lying there unperturbed by the world around him, , it wasn't until his ears picked up a nearby voice, one unmistakably addressed towards himself despite the lack of identifying names or terms. For a moment it didn't register as particularly important, his purple eyes slowly peeling away from the pages of his book to look up and at this newcomer, but once he saw the older, stronger appearing shinigami Kit jolted up into a sitting position, closing his book hastily and trying to hide the cover of it so as to avoid snarky comments about his reading material.

"I-I, U-Uh, e-er..." stuttering and stammering in his current bout of embarrassment and nervousness, Kit stopped when he realized he was staring straight at the wall in front of him: not the person behind him. A half second later and the lithe teenage-appearing individual jumped onto his feet, turning on a heel so he could respectfully address this other individual, hoping to avoid any offensive posturing or speaking. Taking in a slow breath, dusting off his arms and legs a bit, slipping a few fingers through his hair to push away any loose strands and the like, he eventually stood up straighter with his book held to his chest, arms crossed over it to hold it in place. Only now did his black Zanpakutō become visible amidst his robes, held taught to his left hip.

"N-Nothing's u-up... e-er, w-well... I mean, the sky's up 'n stuff, but... uh, I... well... I guess the book... was technically up, th-though um..." shifting his eyes up, down and around as he spoke, Kit let out an audible sigh, one of his hands working up to rub the back of his neck, "I-I was just... um, reading... and drawing, a little earlier... that is," he stated, trying to give a friendly smile, though it appeared a little more on the awkward side. "A-Anyway... um... is there... something I can help you with... Mister... ?"

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Wed Mar 26, 2014 9:50 am
Kyouhai noted the younger Shinigami's nervous actions as he appeared. The younger Shinigami seemed to act like he had something to hide, snapping his book shut and putting his hand over the cover. The young being continued to act flustered as he responded to Kyouhai's informal greeting. Kyouhai really hoped that he didn't appear that intimidating to people. Then again, even while he kept his Reiatsu suppressed, he seemed about the level of a 3rd or 4th Seat, so maybe the Shinigami who was reading was worried that a ranking officer had caught him slacking off, a fear that Kyouhai could sympathize with since he knew how harsh some punishments could be at times.

The other Shinigami seemed a bit socially awkward, Kyouhai noticed, as the young being finished speaking. "is there... something I can help you with... Mister...?" the other Shinigami asked.

"Don't worry, I'm not here to bother you about anything." began Kyouhai. "I'm just a little bored since I don't got nothin' to do right now so I'm just tryin' to find someone to kick it with and you're the only Shinigami that appears to be off duty right now." he said. Kyouhai realized that he'd probably startled the younger Shinigami both with his level of power and his sudden appearance. As such, Kyouhai mainly wanted to seem friendly right now. A new friend was always a good thing, and Kyouhai didn't want someone to be his friend just because he scared them. He wanted a real friendship.

"The name's Kyouhai Suzumori from the Seventh Division, but you can just call me Kyouhai. I don't need no 'Suzumori-san or nothin' like that, I'm kinda informal." said Kyouhai with a smile, holding out his hand for a handshake.

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Tilting his head to the side, neatly brushed black hair falling a little across his pale countenance, the shinigami seemed to relax a bit more. Shifting to push his books into his left arm, Kit nervously smiled again while rubbing the back of his neck, simply unused to people approaching him in a social context. With his minute movement, the cloth rose flower barrette in his hair sparkled softly in the sunlight, but at this point the shinigami had forgotten he'd put it in his hair that morning in the first place.

"... and you're the only Shinigami that appears to be off duty right now."

"O-Oh,... uh, um, yeah I am," he replied to the last portion of the statement, knowing his reading of a trite romance novel likely gave more of an affirmative to the non-question than his response did. "I-I... uh, I just... get a little..." he thought for a moment, making a hand motion as he tried to think of a word, "er... flustered... easily, I think," he finished with a small nod of his head, turning his eyes to look back up and at the other, older looking shinigami. "But... er, um... yeah, I-I'm not doing much, really... so I could... 'kick it' I think?" My god, I must sound incredibly stupid right now... he mumbled in thought.

Listening to Kyouhai introduce himself, Kit pulled his mind from his thoughts and nodded, knowing there were a few who preferred more informal speech in general: himself included, though he often opted to speak and act more formal when around strangers, usually since he didn't know their own position and mindset. Avoiding conflict always sounded better than inadvertently starting it. Generally speaking, any conflict he'd been a part of that he found unnecessary always ended up with him in an injured position, a primary reason why he often tried to avoid people from the 11th Division on principle.

"I-It's nice to meet you, Kyouhai," he spoke softly in turn with a bright grin, taking the offered hand in his own, Kit having a lighter, gentler grip than most; "my name's Kit... just Kit, er... of the Sixth Division. I don't have a last name or anything, so just 'Kit' works fine." Another nod and the shinigami relinquished the hand shaking.

Unable to contain a biting curiosity, the young shinigami bit his bottom lip for a moment before looking back to Kyouhai:

"I... um, do... you do... er, go on missions a lot?" Sure, Kit had experienced his own fair share of them, but the ones he went on were rarely particularly exciting or had long-winded, interesting tales to accompany them. Most of the time he simply had to look into something, sometimes speak with someone, somewhere, other times deal with easier, simpler threats than some of the more dangerous, complicated situations that loomed in the world. Naturally, Kit trained in hopes to get to a point where he would be trusted with missions that required more skill, resolve and fortitude to complete, but until then he often liked to hear of other's exploits. If only to give him an idea of what those types of tasks entailed.

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Kyouhai listened to the younger Shinigami speak. It was obvious that he was still flustered for some reason. Kyouhai really didn't want that because he didn't like the idea that he scared or intimidated anyone. He wasn't the type to perpetuate the idea that people should fear him to begin with. Kyouhai decided that he was going to make the other Shinigami feel more comfortable around him. Maybe then he would be slightly less flustered.

Of course, Kyokuryuu just had to butt into Kyouhai's thoughts right about then. "Yo, Kyouhai, this guy's obviously retarded or a weakling or something, why don't you just leave?" asked the Zanpaku-to. "Maybe because I like having friends and I'm planning to be nice to this guy. Please, Kyokuryuu, say something useful next time you talk to me." said Kyouhai to Kyokuryuu. "OK, whatever you say, Kyouhai... I just hope this doesn't end up being a massive waste of time..." said Kyokuryuu in Kyouhai's mind. "Please, there's nothing else to do anyways..." responded Kyouhai, ending the short conversation with his Zanpaku-to.

As the younger Shinigami accepted his handshake, Kyouhai noted that this being had a lighter, gentler grip. Either he was nervous still, or he just didn't use his hands much. After the handshake, Kyouhai sat down next to the other Shinigami. He knew that people feel much better about talking to someone sitting at their level than someone standing over them, and Kyouhai was doing everything he could to not seem intimidating. As Kyouhai sat down, the younger Shinigami introduced himself as Kit of the Sixth Division. Something surprising to Kyouhai was that Kit had no last name. In Kyouhai's culture, that of 11th century Japan, a family name was one of the most important things for a person to have.

A couple seconds later, the young Shinigami named Kit asked, "Do you go on missions a lot?". "Yeah, I guess you could say I do get sent on missions quite a bit. It's rather annoying, because I don't get to be here in the Seiretei much. Plus missions are dangerous, and I will admit that I've been on a few where I didn't know whether I'd come out alive." said Kyouhai. He paused for a couple of seconds before continuing. "I guess they send me because I'm experienced and efficient or something like that. I mean... I have lived for 1,401 years, so I guess I have experience, and I do have a pretty good track record... but I'm pretty sure there are even better Shinigami than me here as well..." said Kyouhai. "What about you, Kit? Do you get sent on a lot of missions?" asked Kyouhai.

Simply the quiet, shy sort by nature Kit always had a bad habit about stuttering and acting nervous around strangers. Often out of intimidation, at least when in and around Seireitei and the plethora of exceptionally skilled shinigami, but even out and about elsewhere it became an issue. Most of the time the social aspect triggered his discomfort, due to inexperience and holding a deep desire not to accidentally start unnecessary rivalries, hatreds, cause grudges, or create some other form of unrest, after all; he only wanted people to like and appreciate him. Living for nearly two hundred years, even Kit understood that he needed to find some way to push out of his cocoon of introverted behavior, so he'd taken up trying to act a little more sociable. Reading and drawing in public were but two of his ideas, although now someone walked up to talk to him, he felt uncertain just how badly he wanted to change.

Slowly Kit would nod his head through Kyouhai's responses, curious about the other shinigami and wanting to listen to what he had to say. Either way, Kit was quite aware how rude it would be to disregard someone else's response to a question. Looking up a little surprised, Kit scooted to the side when the other chose to sit down by him, the younger shinigami leaning back a little, trying to appear more relaxed. Sure, he was clunky with it and might've appeared a little on the awkward side, but it was a clear effort on his part.

"Ohh... wow, lived... a long while," he stated quietly, eyes shifting off the man and looking aimlessly towards the street, "I find it kinda... er, kinda... um, odd." He paused, scratching the back of his head with a hand and letting out a small sigh. "I mean... well... maybe it's not really... odd," he mumbled, more to himself than to Kyouhai.

When returned the question, Kit looked a little surprised and shifted slightly. "Mmmm... n-not really... I do some stuff, but... w-well, I'm not the best out there." Admitting to such always felt weird to Kit, he held little desire to surpass anyone, but he did like the idea of some more challenging things to do. Something that would, maybe, give him some actual credence.

"I wouldn't... mind doing more, though," he sighed, "but... I figure that's what training's for."

Kyouhai was starting to get the idea that the other Shinigami, Kit, was getting more comfortable with him. However, Kyouhai could also tell that Kit seemed rather nervous still. "I guess he's just shy... but he seems like a nice guy." thought Kyouhai. He noticed that Kit scooted over a little when he sat down beside him. Maybe he really was still afraid. Kyouhai really wasn't sure. This, however, was and opportunity to make a friend, and Kyouhai was someone who really valued friendships. He wasn't about to let this go to waste.

Of course, Kyokuryuu just had to put is his two cents yet again. "Why are you still wasting time with this weakling. Go make friends with someone stronger like a Vice-Captain or a---" began the Zanpaku-to, but Kyouhai wasn't going to let him finish. "Look, Kyokuryuu, I would really appreciate if you would shut up for a few minutes here. I know this guy's young, weak, and socially awkward, but I can help him with that. I'm just tryin' to do something good for another person, OK?" said Kyouhai. "Ok, whatever you say... I hope the idea works out for you, then..." said a rather annoyed Kyokuryuu.

While Kyouhai was arguing with his Zanpaku-to, Kit was speaking. Luckily for Kyouhai, he was good at multi-tasking and so he was able to hear everything Kit was saying. In response to Kyouhai saying that he was over 1,400 years old, Kit said "Ohh... wow, lived... a long while," in what Kyouhai guessed was a tone of slight surprise. That was normal. It wasn't very often you met anyone, even a spiritual being, who was over 1,000 years old. Mostly only Iramasha were around that long. However, Kyouhai was a bit worried by what Kit said next.

"I find it kinda... er, kinda... um, odd." said the young Shinigami. "I mean... well... maybe it's not really... odd," mumbled Kit, barely loud enough to hear. Kyouhai was worried because it almost sounded as if Kit had put two and two together and realized that Kyouhai was too old to be as weak as he was pretending to be. If this guy could figure out that Kyouhai was hiding most of his Reiatsu, then who else would? Then again, Kyouhai mentioning his age pretty much gave that away to anyone with two brain cells to rub together. More time alive meant more time to train, which, of course, meant more power. "I gotta watch what I tell people..." Kyouhai thought.

"Mmmm... n-not really... I do some stuff, but... w-well, I'm not the best out there." said Kit when Kyouhai asked him whether he was sent on many missions by the Gotei 13. He seemed nervous and disappointed as he spoke, and Kyouhai guessed that maybe the young Shinigami was regretful about not being super strong. This was sort of confirmed when Kit said "I wouldn't... mind doing more, though, but... I figure that's what training's for."

"You know, if you want to do more missions, training will certainly help. But there's more to it than that. You have to show that you can handle whatever they throw at you, and that you can be efficient. Doing well on the missions they assign you now and not complaining even if the mission seems stupid or boring will definitely help you." said Kyouhai to the young Shinigami. Kyouhai felt like he wanted to be more help than that, though. He decided to make an offer to the young Shinigami. "Yo, Kit. I think I might be able to help you get stronger. What do you say?"

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

Wow, this guy sure is old, Kit quietly mused to himself, head tilted to the side while he looked at Kyouhai, doesn't really looook over 1,000 years old... though, I guess I don't really look over a hundred. There were a lot of things that threw Kit off when in and around Soul Society, namely how old people could be and how age rarely wrote itself upon their faces. When alive it was always easy to pick out the older folk, Kit used to go by the rule that if someone was taller and had more wrinkles, they were older. Never failed him in life, but in Seireitei, those who might seem younger than himself could end up ten times his age. It felt weird, even after so many years.

Lost in thought for a moment or two, the shinigami luckily clicked back to reality when Kyouhai started to reply. A light nod came with the first statements, Kit not the sort disagree with what the older soul had to say: after all, he likely knew better if experience truly was a teacher of anything. Regardless, when the offer for lessons, assistance to become a stronger, more useful Shinigami came forth, the teenaged appearing shinigami looked stumped for a few moments. No one ever offered him any special training, or help with it, after he left the Academy, but then again he never asked in the first place.

"I-I... I um... I'd like that, I think," he nodded, pushing away some strands of hair a midst his response, his softer voice taking an excited edge to it. "I mean... I know there's a lot 'bout attitude and stuff and doing everything you're given and all," Kit quickly nodded his head, "bu um... anything's probly help, I think." While he felt he had a good attitude about his work, a positive work ethic, a fairly well received record, he couldn't deny that maybe he needed to perfect those aspects about his profession alongside being able to move faster, hit harder and use more advanced abilities and techniques.

"O-O-Oh, d-do... do you know shikai, maybe?" Even though he felt certain the answer was "of course" Kit merely wanted confirmation, and perhaps a jumping off point to push across that he wanted to learn how to access his own. While he and his Zanpakutō spirit never had quarrels, or issues, they rarely openly spoke to each other or had much in the way of communication, besides for a handful of times. More motherly and the guiding sort of spirit, Kanae often gave Kit riddles and hints whenever he asked questions, wanting him to solve his problems with the use of his own mind and analytical skills. It was one of the reasons why he had yet to figure out her name.

Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai] Empty Re: Lazy Days [Private, Kyouhai]

When Kyouhai mentioned to Kit that he could help him get stronger, the younger Shinigami seemed to get excited. This, to Kyouhai, was perfectly normal. Everyone wants to become more powerful. "I-I... I um... I'd like that, I think," began Kit. "I mean... I know there's a lot 'bout attitude and stuff and doing everything you're given and all... ...but um... anything's probly help, I think." said the young Shinigami. Kyouhai realized that he could actually help this younger Shinigami and do some good. Even better, Kyokuryuu wasn't complaining about it anymore. Finally, it seemed, things were starting to go Kyouhai's way.

"Don't worry, I'll be able to help you with pretty much any Shinigami skill." said Kyouhai. Kit then asked, "O-O-Oh, d-do... do you know shikai, maybe?", giving Kyouhai a strange thought. "Does this guy... not know Shikai?!" wondered Kyouhai. But he kept that thought to himself since he didn't want to make Kit think he was looking down on him. Unfortunately, this also made Kyokuryuu decide he had to butt in to Kyouhai's thoughts yet again. "If this guy can't even do a Shikai, he's a waste of time!" said the Zanpaku-to. "Oh? When I didn't know Shikai, you beat the living crap out of me until I learned. That wasn't a waste of time." said Kyouhai before turning his attention back to Kit.

"Yeah, I can use Shikai." said Kyouhai to the younger Shinigami. Then, he had an idea to motivate Kit so he didn't feel bad if it was true that he couldn't use Shikai. Lowering his voice to a whisper, Kyouhai said, "Don't tell anyone else about this, but I'm also able to do Bankai." Normally, Kyouhai wouldn't just tell someone a secret that he'd been trying to keep hidden for over 500 years, but he felt Kit could be trusted, and it sort of helped as motivation. "And I started out like everyone else, barely even able to hold a sword straight, let alone do a Shikai." said Kyouhai.

"So... What are you able to do with your Zanpaku-to?" asked Kyouhai. He wanted to get and idea of just how experienced Kit was to make helping him easier.
