It was ages ago when the great Quincy massacre took place, and the race was nearly wiped out by the monster known as Radioactive. The Quincy were granted terrible ends to their lives, and put to rest in a irradiated wasteland. While such history may have been forgotten in this day and age as the race was repopulated, some people would never forget, and even fewer would attempt to do anything about it. Nozomi Sumashuu was one such person, to reclaim the souls of the fallen Quincy and break the rules to bring them back. While their bodies were nigh unusable due to the nature of their deaths, the spiritual residue left over would be enough to recreate the fallen in new bodies, like reading from a sheet of blueprints. For each life lost that day, Nozomi would create a new host body for their leftover soul to inhabit; she used similar tricks to that which was used on Der Rustung Streiter, to implant souls into machines. The Graustrom Quincy were the byproduct of that. Not quite human, but not far off, they were deceased Quincy brought back from their premature death and given one more chance to live their life. They would be able to age, reproduce, and die once more, allowing for generations of their own to carry on their legacies. But for now, Eldrazi is the only nation to contain these beings, a majority of them making up the ground forces of Nozomi's army.Associated Character:
Nozomi SumashuuBasic Powers:Spirit Weapon
— Each Graustrom Quincy has a unique Spirit Weapon just like normal Quincy, tied to a mystrical cross, and generally taking the form of a ranged weapon. They utilize the Reishi around them to create the weapon from thin air through the catalyst of their cross, and then continue to draw in energy from the environment to use as ammunition. They can utilize their own spiritual energy, though that is only a finite resource. They can fire off the generic Holy Arrow as Quincies usually can, either in single powerful shots, or weaker multiples. Besides that, each Graustrom Quincy has a unique theme and set of capabilities that they can do with their Spirit Weapon, giving their arrows certain abilities or unorthodox forms. For example, one's power can be to fire explosive arrows, while another's would be able to attack with a constant beam, et cetera. It will vary from Quincy to Quincy.Lichtsäber
— Quincy are known more for their ranged attacks, though the Graustrom are no devoid of a melee spirit weapon to go alongside the ranged one. The Lichtsäber is a pseudo-melee weapon created through the Quincy Cross. When summoned, it appears as if only the handle is created, an eight inch bronze grip with an emitter on the top and a black cap on the bottom. To use, the Graustrom collects further spirit energy and particles into one within the grip, and then expels it through the emitter in the form of a blade of light. This blade is constant for as long as the user maintains it, with two-hundred thousand degrees of destructive energy contained within a straight line. This line can be extended up to one kilometer long almost instantaneously, but does not grow heavier or clunky to wield in the process. The weapon simply cuts, slicing most every object it comes into contact like a hot knife through butter, and setting it ablaze if its even remotely flammable.God Step
— The God Step, otherwise known as Hirenkyaku, is the Quincy's high speed movement technique. It requires little thought and is quickly pulled off, just like the Flash Step of a Shinigami or the Sonido of an Arrancar; though there are some distinct differences between them. As Quincy are a race of utilizing the power around them rather than within, they instead build a platform of reishi beneath their feet that they can control, moving them around at will through the air. With this, the Quincy can push the platform around at faster than sonic speeds, so that the naked eye has a difficult time keeping up with them. While moving at top speed, it will seem as if they are completely invisible because they never stay in one place long enough. Beyond that, the God Step also grants a Quincy the ability to fly freely or float, which is something that cannot be done by other high speed movement techniques. And even better, the God Step is silent because it does not actually require the user to touch any surfaces. In comparison, there is not much of a drawback for these bonuses, but that just means that movement is one of the areas Quincy are stronger than others in.
- Blink — To those Graustrom Quincy of tier zero, a different high-speed movement ability is gained in addition to the God Step, simply titled Blink. Blink has less to do with movement, however, and more about displacement. When a Graustrom 'blinks', they teleport from one spot to another instantaneously, bypassing all obstacles in the process. Their body will seem to detonate into reishi that shortly vanish from sight, while at the same exact time reishi appear and collect into their form at their destination. This allows them to noto nly reposition themselves, but adjust their direction and stance as they reappear. And lastly, Blink also works between realms, allowing them to move from the Living World to the Soul Society or Hueco Mundo and others. The weakness, of course, comes with cooldown, preventing them from using the technique again based on the distance of travel. Short distances generally can be recovered from in seconds, but Blinks that carry them by hundreds of meters or more would take an entire post to recover from. Any Blink that would remove them from the area completely, such as one across dimensions or to a very distant point in the world would take a night's sleep or meditation.
— Blut is an advanced Quincy ability that comes in two forms (Vene and Arterie) that allows an otherwise human body to fight on par with Captain-level Shinigami and other equally powerful beings step for step. Using Blut, a Quincy can go hand-to-hand even with Bankai, making it incredibly powerful. It is performed by causing spiritual energy to flow through the bloodstream of their own body, and thus contains one major flaw. The two forms of Blut are mutually exclusive, and cannot be used in unison. So, a Quincy can use Blut Vene to gain inhuman defensive capabilities, but be unable to dish out much offense, and vice versa. Graustrom Quincy have had the discipline of Blut drilled directly into their mind, forcefully mastered in every aspect. Switching between the two forms for them can occur as quickly as an inhalation.
Blut Vene, the defensive aspect of Blut, hardens every cell in the Quincy's body to resist all forms of physical and energetic assault. Spread evenly throughout their body, there is no weak point to take advantage of, as the skin will be as hard as the hair which will be as hard as the lungs which will be as hard as the skin. There is no area where a blade will be able to slice through easier than in another area; and all of these areas will by hyper-concentrated with spiritual energy that transforms their body into something like a Bankai in its own right, with a focus on defense. As an additional bonus, standing completely still while using Blut Vene will increase the defensive power to near-indestructibility for as long as stillness is maintained. It is a stasis that slows time down to a near stop for her, and can be used to survive for a long time despite grievous injuries.
Blut Arterie, the inverse, is the offensive aspect of Blut, and surges through the body and heighten the Quincy's speed and strength to the level of a Captain or equally-powerful being. Their strikes can level hills, smash buildings, and plow through the earth, while they can move any muscle in her body at a consistent Mach speed with total control. The energy that is summoned by the Quincy while in this form will have its prominent offensive aspect enhanced. For example, their holy arrows will have their piercing power amplified, while an explosive blast will increase its blast radius and force.Reishi Absorption and Control
— One of the key abilities of any Quincy is the capability to masterfully manipulate vast amount of Reishi flowing throughout the atmosphere. Albeit they have their own source of spiritual energy within, the Graustrom can absorb Reishi from the environment and combine it with their own to create their Quincy Weaponry and perform their techniques. In addition it can also be used to steal away spiritual energy from their opponents, weakening them. This is generally done with intensive vibrations that soften foreign energies, and then stealing it away once the bonds are weakened.Spiritual Awareness
— As Quincy, the Graustrom can sense Hollows and other spiritual beings at a significant distance or tell in what direction they are in with a surprisingly natural proficiency. They have trained to be stunningly perceptive of even the subtlest of energies, despite the nature of their form. In addition to the basic sensory of Reiatsu, they can tell exactly where any trace amount of spiritual energy is residing without even looking in its direction if it is within the immediate area. Plus, they can track a person based on aged reishi that would be left behind by their mere presence. Every person has their own signature energy, and the Graustrom are capable of distinctively telling most apart, though they can be fooled by masterful subtlety. This ability is not nearly as foolproof as Nozomi's for the reason that they are not good at differentiating what is real and what is feigned. Despite the enhanced level of perception, this flaw is problematic to them.Divine Shield
— In addition to the defensive power of Blut Vene, Graustrom Quincy come with an additional layer of defense; near perpetually surrounding any one of these war machines is the Divine Shield, an incredibly compact spherical layer of spiritual energy. It is only revealed to the naked eye when something strikes it, causing whatever section of the barrier that reacts to the attack to light up with a golden flare. Otherwise, the Divine Shield can only be seen by people who can detect spiritual energy. It is a translucent golden layer of light, dull in luster and color, but criss-crossed by much richer golden lines that circumscribe the sphere in random directions and angles. The barrier is but a fraction of a centimeter thick, and yet that is merely because the energy is compressed so tightly together that it appears thin. In actuality, the Divine Shield deceivingly... resolute. It can take a titanic array of attacks before it stresses out and breaks, reflecting the strength of Graustrom Quincies' tiers. For as long as the Divine Shield remains up, no mental assaults or status effects can be placed upon them, as the shields only account for the raw power of an attack. For example, if a technique had very little force behind it but had a powerful wear and tear effect attached to it, that additional ability would go to waste here and only the force of the technique would count. Inversely, a strike that is only a strike and no more hits the Divine Shield with full force. Additionally, Graustrom Quincies are not affected by anything caused by the attacks for as long the shield remains in place, such as momentum. When the Divine Shield goes down, it can come back up, but it would require 3 posts of not being struck by a single attack, forcing opponents to keep the pressure up or risk bringing back such a powerful defense. Evaded attacks, glancing blows, and attacks blocked by other means do not count in this regard.Oathsworn
— All Graustrom Quincy have the ability to commit an oath to one or more people, essentially bonding them to that person in a way. All first generation Graustrom have sworn this oath to Nozomi Sumashuu, but they do generally tend to swear at least one more to somebody close to them, usually a citizen of Eldrazi. This oath is much like an ethereal contract, allowing the Oathsworn Quincy to sense their bonded, and vice versa. They are able to transmit their thoughts to each other, and work in synchronization. More than that, the Oathsworn Quincy is able to immediately warp to the side of their bonded at will, and transfer life essence between one another to injure any ailments that one might be affected by. An oath does not allow either party to control the other, however—each side acts independantly.Crystalline Heart
— Another unique trait to the Graustrom is that they are very much ''undead,'' and no longer as mortal as their previous human incarnates. The method through which Nozomi has brought them back involved a catalyst unique to each vessel; a crystal heart. This crystal, roughly about the same shape and size as a human heart, replacing the heart, but made of a clear mineral that surpasses diamonds hardness and is protected by strong wards. This heart is their anchor to the body, the sole vital organ. Every injury a Graustrom sustains, even should their body be blown to bits, will be restored to its original form so long as the crystal heart remains in tact. Similarly, their soul is equally interminable, always returning to form when it is destroyed or damaged. The heart is a storage device, constantly creating back-up memories of the Graustrom until the host is damaged, after which it returns them back to the most recent healthy form they were in, memories and all. Thus, the crystal heart is sufficiently protected to prevent its destruction. Besides its natural durability, it is enchanted with a powerful ward that reflects any attack that isn't specifically intended for it. For example, a massive explosion that would wipe out the Graustrom's body would not affect the heart whatsoever, because it would only be collateral damage. A projectile that happens to hit it unintentionally will bounce off of it because of it not being initially aimed at it. Someone who tried to crush it in their hand without properly understanding what it was, would not be able to. This ward protects against all of those things, requiring the opponent to sufficiently understand what the Graustrom's heart is before making an attack against it. The intent to destroy the heart and slay the Graustrom must be present for the ward to be bypassed. EIther that, or the combined power of five hydrogen bombs in a single attack, though that would be a colossal waste.
