Dew and Dawn Empty Dew and Dawn

Dew and Dawn Tol0JGb

It was a retreat.

Lately, his life had been hectic, what with the demon baby, stalker kid, weird cat dude, so on and so forth plaguing his days. In fact, sometimes he couldn't even be sure that he had a sense of sanity left. Something was trying to get to him - sometimes he felt the pulse behind his head, sometimes he heard a soft voice. And often, his dreams were plagued by something, if waking up in a sweat meant anything. What lingered from the dreams was a shade of blue, and the sense of a really beautiful voice. With all of that happening in his life, on top of the three part-time jobs he has, and the one on commission job he has, it's needless to say he's quite exhausted.

That's why he was in a corner of Fuma Park, lying down on the grass.

He had escaped his apartment, after the kid went off to school. Then he carefully picked his way to the park. Considering it was his day off, this was probably the best idea. He needed to be out, and sleeping in the park was a comfortable thing for him. It did remind him of when he was homeless for a time, but it wasn't bad memories. In a way, everything then was simpler. The male let out a sigh, kind of regretting that he had woken up a few moments ago. Although, it became obvious as to why he had done so - by the steps that crinkled the crisp autumn leaves in the park.

He shifted his body, deciding to sit up and started brushing leaves out of his hair.

Finally getting to his feet, he turned around, as the steps seemed to stop. For a moment, the male tilted his head this way and that, seeing no one. A confused look came across his face, before he felt something push him. His eyes widened - the human had realized that he was on top of a well hidden hill of course, and that push would tumble him over the edge. With a grunt, he hit the ground, and tumbled down the hill, landing right near a small river that ran through the park. His body felt pained, and he let out a groan, trying to get up.

But his fingers kept slipping, and he couldn't lift himself.

Falling down that hill had harmed him somehow - he could barely tell where he was, but he was okay. It was just hard to move. Something in the corner of his eye caught his attention. A figure, a person, something. He couldn't call out to them, heck he didn't know if they were facing him. But hopefully, they would see his predicament, and come help. Or something. Takeshi really didn't know, but right now he figured he either looked pathetic, or severely injured. Whatever it was, it would be enough to catch that person's attention, right? Just for once, he hoped that Fate wasn't going to spit cruelly at him, and make him her bitch like always.

Just once, he wanted some good luck.

A small whirlwind of feathers would dance through the cobblestone walk way, of the entrance of the park. The whirlwind would move too near the center of the park, kicking up fallen leaves and pieces of trash. The leaves would still dance around the center of the nonexistent whirlwind, a woman standing in the center of their glee. The woman would have stopped as she outstretched her hand too catch a few pieces of trash in it. Gilded eyes would stare too the empty cigarette carton and empty Mcdoolan’s bag. She would raise her eyebrow too it, as the stench of disgust would creep out of the garbage. Walking too the garbage bin, she’d toss it slowly into the bin. Humans were suppose too be the ones who keep this planet clean. She sighed softly, and would walk past it.

Her nose would twitch slowly, as she could smell a human running past her. The figure seemed too worried with where they were going too notice her, and the horned woman would tilt her head too this. Hmm, human’s normally reacted when they saw her, but in this world.. everyone seemed more spiritually inclined, so perhaps she was just a normal person too him.. in some ways. Continuing too walk down the path, it’d be a matter of minutes, as River would pause staring down too the cobblestone rocks, that layered the pathway. It always fascinated herself on how the humans had always been surviving, and adapting at everything that was thrown at them. It was depressing, but needed for them too be able too adapt into a stronger race.

The slim wings would lay relaxed as she would walk through the peaceful forest. She was enjoying the different colors of the fall, the fall and spring had always been her favorite times of year. She saw every season beautiful in it’s own way, but those two were the ones she actually looked forward too. Too her, each gust and breeze of those seasons, had been a soft sigh of life and death, the leaves would whisper their dying secrets in the air and then rot back into the ground where they belong. Her nose would twitch as the familiar earthy scent of humanity would dance under her nose.

Glancing down behind herself, she’d see a rather steep hill... her eyes were as precise as a hawks ( actually, her vision was better then a hawks ) and the minutes she’d realize there was someone down there in pain, she’d glance around. The thoughts of a warrior would forever be embedded in her head, the urge too protect; yet the paranoia too look out for one’s own self, as selfish as it was... once she had determined that it seemed safe enough, the figure in the man’s sight would disappear. River would actually have gotten too him, in long jumps- the soft beating sound of her feathers would keep her up high in the sky, before dropping gracefully infront of the injured human. Oh.. he appeared too be a young boy.

She’d outstretch her hand too him, a worried look would swim in her typically curious eyes. “Where do you hurt at...?” she would question softly. She would glance too the river that had been trickling next too him, and the memory of her first birth would become fresh in her mind. She had once been in his position- asides the fact of her being hurt. Just his location, when she first came too this world... like a larvae shedding it’s cocoon of darkness and seeing a new world, a much brighter and more complicated world. Her dark locks would entangle in her outstretched arm as she would look him over.

“If it hurts too talk, please, just take my hand. “

It was things like this that could restore his faith in mankind.

Except, he was pretty sure that was no human. Takeshi blinked, and then the figure was suddenly a lot closer. The male struggled to see - squinted eyes were bad enough, now add blurriness to that, it made seeing hell - but he could tell there was a hand near by. He opened his mouth to talk, but instead came a rasping cough. The pain in his chest multiplied. Goddamn, what did he do, break a rib? No, he surely opened not, and that at worse it was just some bruising or something. He wasn't a whimp by far, but he wasn't made to roll down rocky and tree root filled hills to say the least.

For a moment, the buzzing noise that were screwing with his ears seemed to swallow more.

But he caught the gist. Grab the hand please, so we can help you up. That was actually appreciated in this case. Slowly, he raised his hand - and missed the outstretched one. Shifting again, and this time biting down into his lip - the pain let him focus a bit more, it was helping him ignore the other pains - he lifted his arm again. He actually managed to take to the hand this time. And slowly, the male moved, his legs under him. Shaking his head a moment, that headache was pounding so hard in his ears now, the buzzy noises leaving quietly.

Slowly but surely he made his way to his feet.

The immediate reaction was relief. The second, a wave of dizziness and nausea over took him. The third, his entire torso and even his hips hurt. Fourth, he could finally see - the blur seemed to slip away too. Soft whispers of something in his ear, faded just like the sounds from his morning dreams. And he took a deep breath, wincing hard. ''D... Damn.'' he managed to rasp out, before his squinted gaze met the figure's. All he could think of is 'Damn, she's really pretty'. At least at first. His eyes caught the horns next, and he simply raised an eyebrow, before he licked his lips.

The cracked bottom lip was bloody, due to how he was biting down on it.

''Name... Kimura... Takeshi.'' he managed to get out. There, his throat was hurting a bit less with each word. Perhaps his panic had locked up a lot of the things he could normally do? ''Was pushed off hill.'' he added. He gently rubbed his temples, the headache increasing. He was trying to suppress it, along with the aching pain in his body. He couldn't tell if he was injured anywhere else, but he fully expected at least bruises, if not quite a few cuts from the sharp rocks. Honestly, he was lucky he didn't get a concussion - to his knowledge of course - or severed a nerve. And this all had to happen today, like it always did.

''Your name, please?'' he said, managing to scrape the words out relatively normally now.

The golden eyes would stare down too the human as he seemed too finally notice she had been here. River could see him try too open his eyes but barely muster a squint, and struggle with his words. She’d stare at him, as she’d push the dark locks of hair off of her out stretched arm and too behind her shoulders. He was probably hit on the head or ribs too affect his speech, she thought too herself calmly. The Davana would stare too him, as if she had a mother’s gaze; her child running in with a splinter in it’s thumb, or something along those lines. She would shush him softly, at his attempt too speak. He would finally realize her hand was out too him it seemed, and he would stretch too grab it, missing it the first time. She’d smile softly too his attempt, before moving her hand too his own, he’d grab it the second time and she’d pull him up with ease.

She’d immediately start too notice him, he would sway side too side, fighting too take control of his balance. Her wings would suddenly outstretch, curling around him slightly- but making sure not too touch him. She simply kept them there if he would fall, so she could catch him easier. Her hand would slowly let go of his own, she would be quick too catch him if he would fall back. He would speak up, and she’d smile again looking too him. The horns would be curled around her head, and form an unfinished crown or halo, her ears would twitch at his first words. She’d give off a soft laugh. As he tried too steady his breathing, and prepare himself. Well, he didn’t run away screaming yet from her appearance, or perhaps he saw it and just blamed it on a concussion, or.. even maybe if she was lucky; he was someone who was spiritually adept, so she wouldn’t have too do much explaining, after all.. she herself only knew so much.

Oh, there was the name. She’d smile closing her golden eyes too him. “ I am River Sage, please, just call me River though.” Her wings would still stay near him, just encase he’d get overwhelmed or would be affected by his fall. She would look too him, he was going to have a few bumps and bruises, but she didn’t smell any heavy blood flowing from him. She would tilt her head, allowing her dark locks too fall too one side. “Pushed... off?” she’d glance too the top of the hill and sighed. “Rest one arm on my shoulder, please Kimura-san. We should get you back up the hill.” of course, he was probably thinking. We hould probably walk you up the hill where as River meant, I’m going too fly too the top. Her wings would twitch and move too her own body, as she wouldn’t wait for him too listen, moving his arm across her shoulders she’d snake her arm around his torso lightly, so not too hurt him further.

With one bound, the two would be in the air, her wings would beat only once against the wind around them, and then she’d land; making sure most of the landing pressure had been on her feet. River would have landed right under a light posts, so she could get a better look too the man. So, the person that ran by her was no doubt the person who pushed him. She would give a soft sigh, humans had been so selfish at times, Kimura-san could have been hurt incredibly bad. “ Would you like me too walk you out of the park, Kimura-san? “ she’d tilt her head too him, she wouldn’t fully accept herself if she just left this injured human alone here.

Honestly, he had no idea how injured he was.

It might have been the shock of him just tumbling down or something - he wasn't even sure. The male was slowly getting things back together, hissing in breaths to help control himself. The woman before him was damn pretty - even with horns, wings, and whatever else she could have. Well, okay maybe except if she had male parts, now that might freak him out a bit on a personal level, but if it's her life... well it's her life. The male just concentrated on getting himself together, but the woman before him was a bit distracting to say the least. And then he had an answer to a question he had asked just before.

River Sage. What a strange, but pretty name.

At her suggestion, he leaned on one of her shoulders. Of course, he had assumed they would walk - but that was probably a bad assumption to make in his state. Suddenly, there was no ground. He was in the air, and for a moment, he thought he was going to black out. And then pulsing deeply into his brain, echoing with the force of a mountain, he finally heard something. A voice. What was it saying? He couldn't tell, but he could hear the voice and it filled him. Something light, airy and yet powerful took root deep inside of him And then, when the air faded and they had landed, the feeling left. And for a single terrible moment, Takeshi wanted to cry.

Such a thing, he had never felt before and it's loss was almost crippling.

The male easily took himself under control, as he looked up at the pretty face of the girl before him. There was a bench under the light post, and the male just heavily sat down in it. Letting out a shaky breath, he shook his head. The headache was slowly going down now, and he opened his eyes - as much as he could, it looked like a squint - and smiled. ''I don't think I can right now. How about we talk a little bit? I feel bad for you coming across me like that. Must have been terrifying.'' he said, leaning his head back.

If he treated her as a normal person, it would be alright, wouldn't it?

He just let out another breath. Right, it should be fine. Like honestly, with how weird his life has been, and how many people he sees in the market, seeing someone like her... was unusual inside the city, but hardly horrifying or surprising. And considering his own life lately, even the oddity of it wasn't really there. Although, this was his first time meeting someone with appendages like her, and part of him wanted to curiously touch the wings or the horns. But that was invading personal space, and it was kind of a rude thing to ask, so he wouldn't do it. He was polite, after all.

But he could chat her up, and know a bit more about her, couldn't he?

Artist: cte - Song: mnstr - Word Count: 523

River would glance too the human, as he would stumble back and move into a park bench. She’d note his calm exterior, even now when he was squinting through barely shut eyes. She would sighed, only time would tell if he was actually calm with her appearance or not. The Davana didn’t care much too think on it. She was just worried too see if he had been injured or not. She would lean close to him, her nose smelling for copper, and there seemed too be a faint scent of she was sure it was from the cuts on his lips. Humans were such delicate creatures, breaking and folding with the simplest pressure; their own pressure at time. Her golden eyes would look over the man, as if a scientist observing a new specimen. Analytical eyes would shine, much like simple roses, delicate and beautiful in their own way. They had a particular scent, that had been much different then their spiritual counter parts.

Pulling away from him, her wings would twitch slightly. “Do not worry.” She spoke softly, as he would finish speaking, she’d pull her hair back behind her shoulders. He was worried that he burdened her, she almost wanted too laugh at that statement, humans were so odd... he was the injured one, and yet he worried about her own burdens. Shaking her head as she sighed softly too him, “I help those who hurt... i help the helpless.. .” It was her loyalty too humanity, something that hadn’t even known of her existence until just recently, and even then.. it wasn’t herself personally. She would pause and look too the bench, moving too sit next too him, her wings would spread up and rest over the bench, the dark feathers wrestling too get comfortable against the not so wing friendly bench. A few more moments of the feathers struggling too get comfortable, River would give an annoyed sigh, before turning too face him and allowing her wings too rest against her back.

Okay, so she couldn’t sit normally in most human chairs, especially if there was a back too it. She would smile scratching the back of her head as she stared too him. “My appearance is very real... does that not frighten you?” she would stare too him curiosity sparkling in her eyes,as she would rest her hands in her lap. “Kimura-san, you are aware I am far from human.” she would move her hands along her horns gently. “If.. you can’t see that well is.. “ the thought of parading around as a human was entertaining too her, but River was never very good at lying. Turning her head too stare too the sky. She enjoyed nights like this, when there wasn’t fighting... and he wasn’t afraid of her appearance. The peace that came with just sitting with someone in silence, it was far different then the peace that came with being alone.

Honestly, the pain was throbbing, but he knew how to push it away.

Luckily the pain defused any sort of awkwardness with the woman so close to him, so he could just wait until she answered him. Honestly, he wasn't going to push this one, he felt that maybe for the first time, he wasn't going to get his life violently chucked out of the window for the sake of whatever deity or force that had decided to curse him with the worse of luck. Or whatever this was - was it a punishment of some sort, or was someone deciding to set his life on fire and laugh at him for it? - considered by said thing. Man, it was so honestly weird sometimes.

Her voice was soft, and helped ease the headache. But yet she was talking and didn't necessarily answer him like normal. There was more staring and vague statements that he was used to, but the male wouldn't give up honestly. She seemed too much of a nice person, and he waited, trying his best to let her be comfortable. Honestly, if they had been in Sukai, it'dve been a lot easier for her, because it was in the air. And that meant a lot of public amenities would help people with wings, since down here it wasn't so popular, not yet. The male just waited, and tried to give her a gentle smile - except he licked his lips automatically and tasted the blood, and felt a bit of pain, so he decided to keep it smaller.

''Honestly? I've seen enough shit the last two weeks - actually make that my whole life - that to me it doesn't matter what you look. I actually think you're really pretty. We're newage - race shouldn't matter honestly. And those that are caught up in such struggles need to get over themselves.'' he said, shrugging lightly. And then just let out a soft sigh. ''Honestly, I'm scared that people are getting dumber the better our world gets.'' he said, before letting out a soft sigh. Closing his eyes gently, to soothe the aching throbs, the male fell silent, just enjoying being here. Well the most that he could considering the lingering aches of his misadventure.

And just for this moment, this could be more then good enough.
