I. Basic Information» Name:
Joris Cullen» Alias:
A start to get back into role playing in general. Obviously by the name he'll be my name sake and hell, it'll be a lot of fun to play a character from literally powerless up the tree. I'll definitely get to meet the people here too.» Appearance Written:
A lightly tanned caucasian man with a sleek and slender figure. A face absent of blemishes and easily displays his intentions, be them mischievous, caring, bored or annoyed. Bangs coming down the sides of his face to cradle his facial features, yet ending just below the ears on the sides, and just above his nose in the front. In the back his hair comes just down to the base of his jaw with enough hair that he can tie his hair up in the back. The entirety of it is a mess with multiple cowlicks, yet only two to three prominently standing upon his head. His eyes seem to pop out with their crisp sour apple green color, and just how alert and lively they seem. His wrist and even forearms seem extremely small, spindly, and weak, accenting how feminine, long, and narrow his fingers seem.
Never being pinned down into a single outfit Joris' wardrobe is varied in almost every sense. However the most memorable things he wears tend to be the most bland and blank. A typical black shirt, accompanied by a pair of black jeans. He can be found wearing sweatpants of various colors and textural designs as well, with a variety of colors for his shirts. As for footwear he'll be found wearing a pair of red flip flops or a variety of sneakers with ankle support and on the rare occasion you can find him wearing a pair of slippers.
He has a variety of piercings and even colored contacts to change his eye color, as well as a pair of dog tags, the chain tied taut around his wrist, one of the tags seems to be broken at the middle with only half of it remaining. Each of the tags has names nearly worn away from grease and other elements fading the metal, yet seemingly newly etched on the back of both are quotes. On the complete dog tag are the words, "Nec possum tecum vivere, nec sine te"
, while upon the other, the broken dog tag, all that remains is "Fugit Inrepar-"
the full quote being "Fugit Inreparabile Tempus"» Appearance Image:

II. Personality» Personality:
Joris is typically a rather quiet person. He loves to think to himself and try and come up with ideas of things to draw while listening to music. He tends to like to draw fantasy like things, be it creatures, people, or just the fashion of clothes that would be considered impossible to do or social suicide to wear. This bubble of just silence he puts up around him makes it seem as if he were an antisocial person, yet he is the exact opposite. When he isn't off in his own world imagining he's out trying to make new friends. Being relatively straightforward with his approaches be it to make a friend or confess his love he is the same to both situations. Awkwardly present yourself, introduce, and get to the point.
Joris loves to work in groups at times, loving the interaction with others that he can experience. However there are other times he wants to work alone, believing everything would be easier if he were to just be capable of doing something on his own without outside input. This general swing of moods can happen during a project that he's working on and cause him internal conflicts that either piss him off or make him realize that he's a dick. He tends to enjoy being a position close to leading the project, but without the responsibility of actually running the project. He enjoys working with others because if he gets lazy he can always just let others take up his slack temporarily.
When it comes down to it Joris tends to be a very cynical person. However he tends to wear a mask of being very friendly and tries his best to hold that mask up around others so that he can feel like he isn't a horrible person. He also tends to act nice around others because it is within his own self interest for them to be nice to him or be friends with him. However if he sees the opportunity to drop blame on one of those so called friends he tends to have to weigh his choices more severely counteracting his cynical nature at times for actual friendship.
He's capable of falling into depression rather easily if something major happens to him. Such as losing a friend that he could consider a support pillar. Someone to talk to whenever he needed someone to be there for him. These spurts of depression seem to take over his entire mind at times, often following up with the five stages of denial. The stage he sits on the longest within denial is anger. He tries his best to take this anger out on things that aren't sentient. He does this by drawing, reading, playing games, however there are times where he will blow up on someone and chew their head off before realizing what he's doing.
In regards to bullying others Joris sees himself as a minor offender, but who isn't. He is disgusted by those who repeatedly seek out those weaker or smaller than themselves and picking on them, yet he has been one of those people before. Realizing the error of his ways was one of the steps to him trying to be a better person, and now trying to prevent more cases whenever he can he tries to improve others or save others. One of his closest friends who he lost he had only become friends with because he changed, they had been someone he had once bullied and they had put it all aside when they realized what a great guy he could be. He stands firm in protecting those that are seen as small and weak by society or by others.
III. History» History:
Born within a small family at the time Joris' parents were having a hard time finding the financial footing for raising their child. Due to this Joris' early years were spent with varying periods of time with either parent. His father working full time and his mother working two jobs to try and help support her new child. He didn't understand the severity of his birth at that time but he was a shining beacon for both of his parents who before him, had no wonderful plans for the future. He had been their surprise that changed their lives.
When he turned five his parents had another child. His little sister, Catherine, who his parents had planned. He had a basic understanding on how to form sentences, yet not always the most coherent. He didn't truly understand the significance of what another child within the house meant for his parents but he had learned that his mom seemed to work awfully hard for him. Now that he was having a sister as well his father's job changed too, from being an automotive to a builder, along with his mom changing from working two separate jobs to one job as an accountant. When his little sister was born he got to spend sometime with her and his mom, yet he had just started school and couldn't play or talk with his mom during the days anymore.
By the time he was nine his parents had gone from living in a small house in a bad side of town to living within a nice community. Here he got to get a few friends and realized the best way to dodge blame for something was to try and place it on someone else. At this time he began to play little league soccer and tried his best to win. His parents working hard enough to be able to support the family and their hobbies. Yet much like him another surprise came along the way and soon they began to cut back on some of those luxuries for Joris' younger brother, Christian. His parents began to work a few more hours in preparation for their next child and Joris was in charge of baby sitting his little sister most nights while his parents were out working.
At the time Joris tried his best to play with his baby sister and build the relationship a brother should have with his little sister, yet he understood she was still just a bit too young.
Within the next three years he got it into his head that he was going to join the military to support his family as best as he could himself. Joris had begun to stand up for himself to others and to maintain a position of seeming strong to others so he wouldn't be bullied by others, he subsequently became a bully himself. He was twelve at the time, while his sister had already started getting ready for school as well and thinking of her dreams, his brother had only just turned three and he was sad. He wouldn't have a brother who he could really wrestle with or be rough with. So he viewed all those around him as unfortunate for having to deal with his rowdiness because he had no one to mess with at home. It was at this time that he found a target that he enjoyed to bully the most, a boy named Oliver. Little did Joris know that this boy was going to be one of his closest friends. This boy was the person who slowly began to change his ideals standing up to him whenever he would come to beat the kid down, and always standing back up defiantly to the boy who would bully him.
Once Joris finally made it into the academy he received a wake up call and the only person willing to be his friend afterwards was Oliver. Joris had come in to the academy and had no clue what he was going to expect, he was to be tested by all the others and little did he know his antics were child's play to those above him. He returned home that day beaten and bruised, eyes swollen, and only one person by his side to help him along, Oliver. Oliver taught him how someone had to stand up to those who would pick on others and never give in, to fall 5 times and stand up 6 is the strength of man. Oliver and Joris became close friends and the two families Oliver's and Joris' became friends as well. The next events in Joris' life were what truly shaped him up to be the man he is currently.
Oliver and Joris stood tall together protecting as many as they could as they went along in their daily lives. They took beating after beating to protect those that they could. Oliver always took a more peaceful approach, while the hot tempered Joris would only be able to contain himself for so long before fighting back. All it took was one hospital stay too long and Joris' entire view of their vigilante protection of those around them became his job alone. Stuck in the hospital for a week with a broken leg and two broken ribs Joris had received news from his family about Oliver. A local group of thugs had grown sick of their antics and wanted to strike a deep blow to Joris by beating Oliver too a pulp. Just they took it too far, one of them while kicking Oliver in the chest had missed and gone to high, crushing his esophagus. The group was captured and were all charged for the murder of the young man and Joris received therapy to try and help him cope with the loss of his only friend.
Now now nearing the time for him to turn eighteen and graduate from the academy the young man is still haunted by the death of his friend and sees any opportunity to stand up and protect another regardless of it being picking on someone lesser or harassment he jumps at the cause. Remembering Oliver's way of standing up to protect others when he was harassed constantly by Joris. He would re-enact Oliver's method of peacefully trying to stop certain encounters, but he understood some encounters required one to take action to protect others and one's self. The catharsis that he underwent seemingly triggering something in the young mans mind. He wanted to do something more, to be capable of protecting as many as he could through Oliver's means of peaceful negotiations. Oliver had convinced him to change from the path of the military to that of the alliance. To prevent further conflicts at all costs.

The young man sat with one of his knees up and his other foot on the chair across from him. His sketchbook balanced on his knee as he drew. He was enjoying his relaxing day off, he had moved out from his parents place cause he couldn't handle the stress that the family thought he was under that they actually placed him into. His friend had died yes, but he had taken it for what it was and moved on as best as he could. His friend would rather he be happy and party then to mourn and grieve over the loss of someone who would not return to them. He shifted moving his sketchbook aside and reached over to the table to grab his cup of tea. As he leaned back he looked up, his black bangs shifting out of his face. The sky was relatively cloudy but for the most part he enjoyed that. Bringing his cup up to his mouth he took a sip of his tea before setting it back down and returning to his drawing.
When he had finished his drawing for the most part he put his sketchbook aside. What exactly did he want to do with his day off. He let his mind wander on the possibilities of what he actually could do. I guess the first thing he could do was go back inside his apartment and put on some pants instead of lounging around in his pajamas all day. He picked up his pencils and eraser placing them on top of his sketch book and carried them inside along with his cup of tea. His apartment wasn't anything special, a bedroom, a bathroom, a small kitchen connected with the living area of the apartment with a balcony. To top it all, it was a mess, he was horrible at keeping his stuff where it belonged and clothes were scattered all across his room, towels lay on the floor in his bathroom, dishes weren't completely piled up but obviously needed cleaning, and the living area, pillows were scattered about and papers from school seemingly everywhere.
He slid a hand through his hair as his emerald eyes glanced about his room for something more appropriate for just window shopping around the town. A red jacket on top of his beaten up grenade shirt? He had worn it the other day and ended up sleeping in it, but.. he loved it too much to consider changing. His pajama bottoms were the next problem he had to find something else to wear, he was already wearing a jacket so shorts were out of the question. He settled on a beaten up pair of blue jeans with the knee worn through on the right side. Slipped into his pair of nice black vans and walked out the door with an ear bud in his left ear and hobbled down the stairs smiling to the click and clank of his dog tags. When he reached the bottom of the stairs is when he finally acknowledged his dangling wallet. Looking back up the stairs and under them to make sure he hadn't lost anything he nodded to himself and slipped his wallet into his back pocket and continued on his way into down town. Something had to be going on today.
He knew the town had a shopping center that had various stores, an open air market, and a mall and near each other. It was a paradise for the college student who needed to find a part-time job and still have stuff to do. He had found flyers for events that he had never imagined possible, and was surprised he had never actually heard of before. Man was he really becoming such an introvert that he could hardly imagine something like a concert happening close to where he lived? A convention going on was also something he never expected to happen but hey he never got to do any of that as he grew up but he always wanted to.
