The Broken Raven
Descend Into Darkness

| Song: Uzu Sanageyama Theme | Artist: Kill la Kill OST | Word Count: 997 |

.....

What had become of this world? What lie beneath everything that seemed normal and casual? Everything seemed to be going wrong left and right. More work was in store for the heroes, it seemed. A perfect example was this city within the Vastime Nation. With no communication available to get into contact inside the city, and people being taken out quicker than extinguishing a candle, it was hard to not think that there was something going on behind the scenes. So, as a curious ninja, Henrex decided that it was a part of his duty as an ally to both the Vastime and Desmond Hayden to aid.

Getting in was mildly easy for someone like him. In fact, there were multiple ways he could have gotten in, but the way he had taken seemed to be the safest way. He could have sneaked in the front way, and possibly been able to get info on what in God's name as happening. However, after he remembered that entire squadrons had been taken out without a trace, he decided to play it safe. So, to do so, he had scaled a building with claw-like objects that were an essential tool for an infiltration ninja. Now standing on the top of a rooftop, Henrex Astillon peered down at the city before him, seeing nothing but a veil of blackness.

With a cold, calculating gaze, the male stared at this veil of darkness, wondering two things. Was this real? If it was actual darkness, then he could see through it with his Night Vision within his Cyberbrain. However, if it was not, then perhaps it was some sort of seal, barrier, or something of the like. If that were the case, then he could probably break through it with his sword. Well, he would have to try both options, now wouldn't he? Hence why the eye of the male turned a dark shade of green, instead of the usual mismatched black and ugly grey.

Upon activation of this add-on, he found himself staring at pure, utter chaos. As the world in front of him turned green, he could still see civilians down there, but that was not the shocker that caused his eyes to widen in partial fear. Buildings were destroyed, some even on fire. Blinking twice to quickly relief himself of his fear, Henrex took a deep breath, before allowing his other senses to contribute as well. Increasing what he could hear, his smell increasing. When this occurred, he instantly wished he hadn't done that.

His ears were assaulted with screaming, groaning, and other horrific, traumatic sounds. His nose burned with the smell of death and fire. All of it hurled him back into memories. Grabbing his head, the boy could remember the feeling. The feeling of pure, utter fear and helplessness. Shaking his head and falling to his knees, the boy's entire body shook from such an experience put through him once again. However, it did not put him off from anything.

No.

So, with that, Henrex, quite literally, leaped into action. Jumping and hurling himself off the building that he had been standing on, sending himself falling towards the ground. Reaching an arm out, Henrex allowed himself to experience the sensation of falling, before quickly hitting the ground, landing on his feet, with a hand in front of him. Standing up immediately, his eyes flickered from left to right, before he dashed off, using his Night Vision to light the way. A quiet, but looming voice echoed into his head. The voice of Chiya, his Zanpakutō.

We both know how dangerous this is, don't we?

Yes. I'm fully aware that I may not come back from this alive.

That's not going to stop you, is it, Henrex?

Are you joking? I didn't go back to that village to come back out as more of a spineless coward. I'm not the same person I used to be, Chiya.

Giving his weapon no chance to response to what he had said, the male abruptly ended the mental conversation, focusing on the task at hand. Skidding to a stop silently, Henrex quickly took a quick look around him, scanning everything that was going on around him. The bright, green light of fire stung his eyes as he stared at the only person he could see in sight. Slowly approaching them, Henrex's hand slipped into his sleeve, gently wrapping around the cold, hard steel of a shuriken. The deadly weapon was ready to be released at any time, but this would only be if truly necessary.

Taking a quiet breath, Henrex gently turned the man around, looking at him. The sight made his eyes bulge. With pitch black for his eye color, and blood around his lips, drenching his mouth, neck, and clothes, it made the boy quickly jump back. He hadn't been expecting something like this. A groan left the strange, blood-covered man that Henrex had confronted, and the head swiftly turned 'round to face him.

Staring into the eyes of the male, Henrex knew that this person no longer had any life within him. The eyes were as dead as the corpses within the city. It was as if....

The train of thought ended, as the male launched himself at the male's neck with astounding speed. Pulling up a foot to protect himself, Henrex thrust the limb forward, hitting the man in the stomach and sending him flying away. Now he was scared. Fear crept into his pores like water on the skin. Looking around, Henrex saw hundreds, if not thousands of people who were in the exact same state. It had seemed that the entire town had been zombified.

Gritting his teeth, Henrex drew three throwing stars from his sleeve, before his tongue wrapped around a hidden poison packet underneath the tongue, ready to crush and administer when needed. Info, or fight? He had info that the Vastime could possibly need to save lives. He didn't wish to kill anyone if he didn't have to. So, he remained still, waiting.

Things were getting complicated already.

Kimitsuki Yamamoto

The Flaming Lotus
Burn to a Crisp

Artist: Animal In Me - Song: Burn - Word Count: 1142

It truly hadn't been that long since Kimitsuki was inducted into the guild of heroes, or at least, she thinks she was. It was a little hard to tell with the attitudes of others towards her, but, in the end she got her licence. Truthfully, it hadn't been that long at all... and everything was already going to shit. Day one out of the area where she was resting for the time being and she already had encountered quite a large issue. What was that issue exactly? Oh, ya know, just a ruined city infested by strange zombie-like creatures that were made out of many different races; quite the amalgam. From what KImitsuki was told about these creatures, they were once on the moon. It was likely they were being used for the same purposes her as they were used for on the moon. Obviously, this was something Kimitsuki would prefer to not go near with a ten foot limbo pole. But, she had to. It was her job as a hero of the Heroes Guild, but, she would've done this anyways. To help who she could and find balance; it was what she wanted to do to help this world.

She had finally arrived in Somalia; Las Anod to be exact. Definitely quite the desolate place, especially now. But, she was here to help; and that's exactly what she was going to do. However, she wasn't exactly expecting to find a black abyss that was blocking sight to the city entirely. She swallowed softly and peered into the darkness for a moment before she raised her right hand as fire burst to life in her hand. She took a cautious step forwards and plunged into the vast darkness that had been blocking so many signals. The darkness was not completely natural, but, it definitely did yield to the light her fire was creating. With a soft sigh, she let the fire expand until it created enough light for her to see the scene that was previously hidden.

With an audible growl, and an inaudible one from Kagutsuchi, Kimitsuki cursed under her breathe. What she saw was absolute chaos and destruction. Nothing at all like the balance she had hoped for at least in this world. She greatly wanted to just light all the chaotic beings before her ablaze and burn them until they were nothing but ash. However, the voice of reason in her head, Kagutsuchi, convinced her otherwise.

"Kimitsuki, calm yourself. You need not lose control after recently becoming a... 'hero'. I still do not understand why you decided to go that route... but, my point is; calm down.

Kimitsuki sighed softly and kept herself from going overboard and allowing her fire to run wild around the entire area. She made a silent 'thank you' to Kagutsuchi as she felt it would be best to walk forwards; to get out of the initial darkness. As she continued to walk through the darkness, making sure she had stable areas to step on, Kimitsuki thought on what exactly is happening and how to react.

First thought: If these things were 'zombies' then how could they be killed? From the little she's heard of them from others, zombies aren't exactly easy to kill. She was told that the best methods were to crush their skulls in or to reduce them to ash. Of course, both were easier said than done. However, for her, burning them to a crisp would be the easiest thing to do. However, she had no idea what ailments these zombies could hold.

Thought Two: The hell was that smell? Oh, the city... Well, that's gross. However, the smell of rotted flesh combined with the smell of blood and burning flesh was surprisingly disturbing to Kimitsuki. Of course, the screaming from those who were getting killed by the zombies was also a little disturbing. However, it wasn't exactly something she could just turn away from. So, with a solid step forwards, Kimitsuki felt herself emerge from the main cloud of darkness. She gritted her teeth as she heard a particularly blood curdling shriek. Her head immediately snapped to the source of the screen as she saw a woman backing into a wall, three of the 'zombies' chasing after her.

Kimitsuki growls and mutters a phrase under her breath as she draws her Lotus Blade from the air. She exhaled softly and then used her natural speed to get in front of the zombies. She noticed how they appeared, her heart leaping into her throat for only a moment as she thought about it. Their faces? Dead. Their eyes were hollow, their mouths were covered in blood and hanging open, their skin was pale, and they were emitting such a strange energy trace that Kimitsuki couldn't help but get confused. However, that was not the only thing she felt.

Kimitsuki stalled for a moment, for only a tiny second, as she gazed at these things' faces. She swallowed hard when she finally snapped back to her senses and cut the legs of the zombies in front of her, not wanting to kill them due to her natural restraint when it comes to certain battle situations. She quickly grabbed the woman, making sure her body wasn't too hot, and she got away quickly. She took the woman to a relatively safe area and checked her for wounds; none. Thank god. She placed her left hand on the woman's shoulder and spoke to her.

"Calm down now, everything's okay. Just stay here, you'll be safer here. I'm Kimitsuki Yamamoto; and I'm here to help."

Kimitsuki smiles softly, which seemingly calms the woman down a little. She nods and Kimitsuki and thanks her profusely, tears slowly running down her cheeks. Kimitsuki sighed and snapped her fingers as flames appeared around the houses perimeter. The flames were hot enough to keep zombies away, but, they would keep the woman completely safe. Kimitsuki touched the woman's cheek softly for only a moment and then sighed.

"Stay here. Remain safe. Make no sounds. Kagutsuchi. Keep an eye on her please. Now, please, stay safe miss."

Kagutsuchi appeared out of Kimitsuki's conceptual world and rested in an area where he could keep a sharp eye on the woman and possible entrances. However, he would keep constant communication with Kimitsuki, using some of what she sees and hears to understand what could be happening and help. With a sigh, Kimitsuki literally walks through the fire around the house and then jumps on top of a rather tall building. She sighed softly and groaned a little and spoke to herself.

"Well then... things have gone to shit."

Mirja, Vastime Wolf

Mirja Eeola, was happy. And not just the general happy when she had a nice snack or when there were Hollows to punch, this was an actual happy. She was dressed strangely for her, but that was just so she fit in. It was a cute military-styled outfit with a jacket that didn’t quite reach her hips, but sleeves enough to cover her entire arms. There was an undershirt that covered her entire torso and then reached down to just past her thighs, and left a half-inch of leg showing between the undershirt and the cute stockings she was wearing. And to top it all off, she was wearing a strange beret-like hat with holes for her ears. It was so she could fit in, she said. She was doing Freelancer stuff for Vastime, and so she wanted to look the part rather than that cropped Shunshakusho she was always wearing. Still no shoes, though. Which lead the soles of the thigh-high tights to be worn out pretty quickly as she crossed the rough terrain. She even had a cool little radio on her head where she got messages from people on occasion.

He was the scene of a strange event, but the way it was pitched to Mirja, they had to go in and rescue people, and some sort of interference was blocking most radio comms, so she stayed a little beyond the outskirts and waited for a definitive report that someone of her physical caliber was required. She was a dam fast woman, so she could get where she needed to do in a hurry, much quicker than any soldier here currently. So she patrolled the outskirts to make sure nothing was attached to this place while it was undergoing its upheaval, and made sure to keep an ear on her comms in case they needed her.

Not that she expected them to, the Vastime army was pretty well equipped and the guys in it did their jobs well, plus they had all manner of friends to help them out in dire situations, all of which led Mirja to feel like a spare wheel, but if that was the case then she’d be the best dam wheel they had ever seen. Cavemen would stare in awe of how majestic of a wheel she was, and if this truck that was the Vastime Operation lost one of its round things, she would be there to do what spare wheels do, and be there when they are needed. That then brought her onto the subject of, if there were any actual trucks around. But, she stopped her divertive thought pattern and focused on the mission at hand, and the radio, in case she was needed.

Song: Alice In Childrens Wonderland - Artist: N/A

Rot From The Inside [Vastime City Of Lost Mission - Mogadishu] 6EdIfMt

There were hordes of the infected beginning to be laid to waste by some of the new arrivals onto the scene. However, there were still many to be cut through. As the more, they cut them down, the more these undead creatures started to reform and rebuild themselves in numbers. Therefore, the likes of Henrex, Kagutsuchi, Kimitsuki and Mirja would have had more of these beasts come at them from all sides.

It was quite unreal as they started to shower them in bursts of energy. Rays of black, red, white and yellow light would rain down out of every direction as they attempted to bury them in a cluster of heat, explosions and rapid fire. This could result in many of them having injuries prone to bruises, dehydration and fluids oozing out of their body as if they were a never ending river of blood.

Additionally, many of the opponents may begin to notice a heavyweight slowing down their movements as the demonic faction of this attack would attempt to use their demon energy to tamper with the environment around them. So this could potentially slow their speed and have them buried in supersonic debris, supernaturally hot fire and explosions which could make them lose 2-10% of their power depending on how potent the attack was.

So it was quite clear that these beasts were competent enough to hold their own against the threats. However, there was the looming threat that something more ominous was on the horizon. It gave off a frozen sensation; despite the fact that by now the entire region would have been devoured in an ungodly wave of fire. For now, however, it did not seem to make its appearance in the hordes of infected which had arrived. Instead, it was lurking, waiting and watching to see what the outcome of these assaults would do first to these intruders.

Henrex Astillon

Master of Misery
Descend Into Darkness

Whatever was causing this, it was prepared. The numbers of the unknown creatures were growing rapidly, and every time one would fall, another ten would replace it. There was no end. Henrex was swiftly surrounded, with his sword soon being drawn and used to cut through the waves of waves of creatures. Blood stained the ground and the clothing of the male as he continued fighting, unsure of what entirely were these things. They didn't seem like they were zombies or anything like that, but more of possessed humans given the power to go beyond their normal limits.

A grey light flashed in the darkness of the city, and the glint of steel flying through the air shone bright, before impacting the skull of one of these things. a loud crack as the steel sunk deep into the flesh, cutting through the bone and piercing the brain by the slightest. But yet, it did not fall. Instead, after the head had been blown back from the sudden amount of force placed on it's head, it simply reeled it's head back, and lumbered towards Henrex. His eyes narrowed as the horde began to surround him more, before two black wings appeared from two circles on his back, and Henrex took flight, hovering above the mass of these beasts.

And then there was light.

Lights of varying colors shined down on him, sending searing pain throughout every limb, every vessel, throughout his entire body. While Henrex's pain threshold was very large, there was a limit that he could take. He didn't want to find out if whatever this was could go past it. So, with every fiber of strength in his body, Henrex forced himself to move out of the way of the first light, and most of the others. As he moved, his leg sizzled as another light caught him, the heat of the light burning the cloth off his right foot, and multiple bruises formed on the ankle, and he stumbled.

Pain rippled up and down his leg, but his mind and body ignored it, focusing on what was more important. Slashes flew through the air, and more blood painted the ground a shade of deep crimson red. As he tried to run, he found his movements much more...sluggish, to say the least. An unholy presence set itself upon the area, and his movements were slowed. Things were getting bad, and if he didn't do something to get him moving more, he could find himself in much more pain, and with much more severe injuries. Gritting his teeth, his forced his wings to take him back up the skies.

Floating in the air, Henrex waved his sword through the air, causing seven black orbs to spawn from a single line of purple and black energy that faded out of view momentarily after being created. The seven orbs would then zip towards the ground, allowing the energy within them to overload and detonate, causing several potentially dangerous explosions to these creatures, causing limbs to be destroyed, blood to be lost, and possible even craters being made into the ground and buildings.

Swirling his sword around his body once again, more and more orbs spawned, before immensely sharp spikes would shoot out from them, piercing the ground and whatever was unlucky enough to get in it's way with astounding speed. As the spikes remained in the ground, they would begin to dissipate from their roots, sending a small mist of energy to cover the area that Henrex was in. In short time, more spikes would protrude outward, piercing hundreds of creatures around him in various areas. While this was all very powerful in the sense of the immense area damage, it was very taxing towards Henrex's energy supply. Even with the 10% that he had lost from the strange light from before, he knew that his energy had also been affected by 25% by his own consumption.

As his wings kept him safe in the air, Henrex would simply observe the scene below. What was behind this? What was their goal?

The Flaming Lotus
Burn to a Crisp

Rot From The Inside [Vastime City Of Lost Mission - Mogadishu] 6EdIfMt

Artist: Animal In Me - Song: Burn - Word Count: 882

Kimitsuki looked at the beings that were approaching her and she sighed softly before she focused a ball of fire in her hand, and instead of throwing it, she did a palm strike with the ball of fire and hit a zombie-like being in the chest and immediately incinerated it. From there, the fire burst forwards from her palm to destroy a cone of the beasts to that Kimitsuki could get through and swung her Lotus Blade at any, and all, infected beings that approached her. Due to the blade's nature, nearly all of the beings were cleaved in two with a single strike; with the exception of a few others. Those few others were incinerated with a quick burst of fire that was toned down a little as to not cause immense collateral damage to the already damaged and burning city. She grit her teeth every time she nearly burned down another building. Say what you must about fire, shit's wild and hard to control. But, she was getting better and better; course it was slow. Fire isn't exactly something that just goes 'alright you can control me'. Regardless, it was a great element to use for nearly anything. Frankly, Kimitsuki though that this would be over relatively quickly; which was a nice thought. Though it was quite incorrect.

Things were not so simple as just burning all the things into nothing-ness. Well, not all things; just the deadly beings killing all things. However, she still needed to be careful and not go too nutty and lose control over her flames. With a soft sigh Kimitsuki looked around the area and zoned in on screams of horror and death. She rushed off in the direction of the screams. However, before she could get in range she smelled sulfur and, from a knee jerk reaction, Kimitsuki flew into her Alingana release to prevent the heat damage as much as possible. This caused her to curse under her breath and just decided to roll with it as she dispelled her Lotus Blade and summoned the spear she uses in this first release. However, the concussion of the explosion caused her to lose about 4% of her energy. Not enough to notice, but, if stacked up it will be obvious.

With a soft sigh Kimitsuki resumed rushing towards the screaming voices as she expertly sliced between infected beings, jumped between buildings, and sliding on her knees, guarded by her Akuma Kyodo, under the reach of infected beings. Eventually she arrived at the area and saw a small girl cowering in a corner from the infected. They were focused on something else, but, some were beginning to catch on. Kimitsuki cut through the infected as possible but... she was much to late. The girl was already gotten to by the infected and Kimitsuki saw this with her eyes; her very own eyes. She heard Kagutsuchi in the back of her mind; trying to calm her down.

"Kimitsuki!! Calm down, if you get too angry you could damage too much!! Yes, a child died, but, you can't let that get to you! You need to calm down!"

Kimitsuki heard him, but, it was too late. A growl emitted from the Golden Pheonix's throat, a nickname that she sometimes gave herself in this form, as golden fire blasted the beings in front of her to ash; nearly creating a pillar of fire. But, before she could create too much damage she stopped herself and gasped; breathing heavily. She cursed loudly this time and glared at the area where the girl died and then she punched a building next to her, and empty one, causing it to crumble. She shook her spear and beheaded an infected being that was next to her, trying to attack her. Her golden fire incinerated the being and she shook her head. All this killing; why? Why must she do it? Why must so many people die by her hands. Even if they are already dead, it is still killing in a sense. Kimitsuki shook her head and walked away from the area she was at, simply cutting beings in two that tried to attack her.

As Kimitsuki walked on, Kagutsuchi had his own problems to deal with. Sure, he and the woman Kimitsuki had found was relatively safe, but, there were enough being that pushing through the fire was possible. This meant that Kagutsuchi had to sometimes incinerate the beings that got through, normally using his fire breath to torch them. The woman didn't speak the entire time, but, she did seem quite scared about this entire situation. It was a wonder she was still alive, but, hopefully she would continue to stay alive. Hopefully. With a draconic sigh Kagutsuchi returned to making sure that the woman was shielded. This situation was such a shit storm that it was hard for Kagutsuchi to see a bright side. But, he was sure that Kimitsuki could turn things around. After all, she wasn't any random pushover. She was someone who was determined to somehow create a balance between the chaos and order. After all, everyone needs a red-headed heroine to help out; and this one is perfect to help em all.

Mirja, The Mad Wolf

Mirja hummed a quant little song to herself while keeping watch, before looking to the city as rays of light began to beam down from the sky. She had no idea what powers the associates called in to this had, nor was she aware of the situation inside. Maybe they needed some lights, maybe the lights made people stronger so they could lift rubble better. So she got on the radio to the people inside.
"Mad Wolf here~ How's it going in the city of crazy? Over" She then waited for a few moments, getting nothing back, and so frowned. "Hello? Hello~?" She then sighed. Bloody human junk. Breaks at the most inopportune times.

So, she took to far more reliable methods of communication. Opening a Senkaimon with her Zanpaktou, she got a Hell Butterfly to come through and recorded the same message, asking about the situation and identifying herself so they wouldn't be confused. She then sent it out to the City, and wondered how they were going to send a reply, but the Hell Butterfly wasn't terribly difficult to use. So she just hung around kicking up some dust and keeping an eye on the outskirts. It was the place where things could sneak up on them, after all. Being snuck up on and stabbed in the spleen with a sharp piece of glass was never good when you were trying to rescue people from the city of crazy. So Mirja was diligent, keeping her ears primed for any noise and her eyes scanning the horizon.

She really hoped she didn't have to go into the city. If she had to go there, then that meant something had go tits up, which was the worst possible thing. This was a city of a new, fledgling nation. If stuff was already happening, then would they stand the test of time? Mirja hoped so, but was worried.
