Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

Yaksha was underdressed to the extreme today, as if he were about to head off on a trip he very much didn't wish to set off on, or one that he was hoping he could get over with quickly. He adjusted the brim of the heavy trenchcoat he'd put on, ensuring that nothing but a thin sliver of the face beneath could be seen, then picked an especially concealing hat to complete the experience. It left him looking a full fifty or sixty pounds heavier than he was, the clothing hanging off of him in a ridiculous manner that made him feel absurd...but where he was going, the appearance of power was more important than power itself. He knew that well, at this point in his life. He needed to look more impressive than his lanky, overly-tall frame could normally denote, if he wanted this trip to end quickly and without incident.

He could be heard humming to himself, but only intermittently; he seemed to lose his train of thought and return to it, often starting over from the very beginning, or deviating into another tune entirely without warning. He glanced around the room he was in, eyes scanning everything, and then removing the trenchcoat for just a moment, to examine the thin undershirt he'd put on, and the neatly-pressed trousers. Both of them were far more his standard fare, though it still exuded a sense of business casual that made him feel nearly nude. Still, it was far better to go underdressed than to arrive covered in sand, giving the impression he didn't even know about the place he was going to.

He reached into a pocket almost absentmindedly, hand touching against the invitation folded there. It had been a very nice invitation, all things considered. This time, however, Yaksha felt far less excited about the implications. The writer was no one of consequence, and they weren't even deigning to meet him in his own territory. No doubt they would try to offer him some backhanded insult in the guise of hospitality, then start pressing in with the uncomfortable questions...but one couldn't exactly turn down an invitation like this one. Not in the position Yaksha was in.

"I suppose I've been trying to do the impossible long enough. It stood to reason I'd be returning eventually."

He rose one hand, raking it downwards slowly, in a shimmering, coruscating curtain of purple-and-black energy, before finally solidifying into a desertscape that looked remarkably depressing; it was deep in the night there, though the sands still retained far more heat than they would've in the human world. He squared his shoulders, stepping through the portal, and then raising a hand towards the sky, firing off a cero without hesitation or ceremony, with the same negligent airs one would've used to fire off a flare.

"Come and get me, Himeko, and let's make this quick. And don't be surprised when I knock you flat on your ass."

His other hand slid into the pocket on the opposite side from the note, fondling something else there, something that clacked and clattered with a sound remarkably close to bones. His grin turned grimly delighted, as he began to whistle, far louder than he had before. It was a haunting, discordant theme, something that would've been easy to pick out even amidst the sounds of violence and devastation.

Livid. That had been the initial emotion that coursed through the veins of Himeko mere minutes after her meeting with Ravan. She stormed down the hall of the outpost that served as her temporary home, paying no heed to the arrancar and demon alike that moved out of her way. Truly, she could not fathom what made the demonic man decide that she of all people was the ideal candidate to play recruiter to a hollow. Recruitment wasn’t in her job description. No, her job as duchess was to police the realms and countries under Shadow Fall’s control. Not play recruiter to a hollow that obviously didn’t want to join up with the malevolent organization. If Ravan had been any other person, she would have told him off and tell him to find somebody else. However, he was no ordinary man. He sat on the left throne and thus, he was her better in every shape and form. Killing her would be an easy task. She hadn’t the courage to defy him and so, she begrudgingly set up the meeting.

Once she had a moment to cool off, her fury gave way to curiosity. By all accounts, the hollow she was to meet should be dead based solely on what she had heard of Ravan. The man that sat on the left throne was one no one dared challenge lest they were fine with relinquishing their life. Ravan’s mere presence should have been enough to entice the hollow to join and yet, they had readily done what Himeko could not bring herself to do – deny him. And, though she still very much believed that Ravan could have ended him, there must’ve been something special about the hollow if it had been allowed to live.

She delves into research on the hollow in question whilst she waits for them to answer her invitation. With Shadow Fall’s database, she finds a good deal of knowledge about the hollow. So much, in fact, that it would no doubt take her several days to go thoroughly examine it all. It was time that she did not have. Thus, she read what was important and skimmed the rest, filing it all away in her mind. Her decision to do so quickly proves to be the right one.

As the individual who saw over Hueco Mundo, it came as no surprise that she’s the first notified when a surge of energy is picked up. Quickly, she commands her subordinates to remain at the outpost as she pulls on her jacket. And, with one final glance at the database, she departs from the outpost.

Though she isn’t a particularly fast individual, her vector plates ensure that she doesn’t keep her guest waiting for long. It helps that finding her guest isn’t difficult. All she had to do was follow the humming that was simply out of place in a land such as Hueco Mundo. Her appearance before Yaksha is marked by a glowing magenta vector appearing several feet from him – out of reach of his arms. Then, a red-head coming to an unexpected halt upon that vector.

Quickly, she disperses the plate, the vector slowly disappearing. She takes a brief moment to take note of his overall appearance. She doesn’t size him up as there was simply no need to and such an action could be taken as an act of hostility. And, quite frankly, Himeko wanted this meeting to go by as smoothly as possible – no need to draw Ravan’s ire if she could avoid it. Once she feels like she has had a good look, she sets her sights on the hollow’s face. And, after a short pause, she says:

“Welcome to Hueco Mundo, Yaksha. I am Himeko and I can now see why Ravan wants you so badly. Care to follow me to the outpost?”

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

The realm was every big as nauseatingly dull as Yaksha remembered. Sand, sand everywhere, and not a single friendly face to be found. It felt almost like he'd been thrown into the zoo, and was now trying to hold an interview in the very middle of it. He kept one hand in his pocket, walking after Himeko with an air of casual, almost absentminded insouciance. It almost felt like he was the sort of person who'd launch into a contrarian point just for the hell of it. Or perhaps it was just the setting she'd chosen for their meeting. Hueco Mundo brought back Yaksha's natural stubbornness.

"How delightful. A fellow peddler of petty wares. Flattery will get you a long way in life, but part of flattery does include taking an -actual- interest, you know. I can smell the disingenuousness in your every word. So let's just keep this simple, right? You don't talk about me, and I won't talk about, let's say...the exact nature by which rust forms on iron. We're both equally unversed on the topics, so it would be an exercise in futility."

Yaksha's eyes twinkled with faint mirth, his movements carrying an atavistic grace that brought to mind a jaguar sunning, or a snake releasing its countless crushing coils, to bask in sunlight. The words matched his facial features and tone of voice not at all; there wasn't a hint of malice in his stance, and he seemed to radiate goodwill and warmth like a small flame, in gentle waves that made the area around him feel brighter. He took a few slow steps, and then gestured with one hand, spinning on a heel, and bowing in a smooth, careless gesture. His bow was deep, reverent, and seemed to bring to mind a spring, coiled up very tightly with nowhere to let off the excess energy.

"I do hope this is an actual outpost. If you had gone native, and decided that sand castles could compare to central air and running water, I would probably have to turn down your offer just on sheer principle. You see, that's the thing I'm not sure you understand, Himeko. You, or Ravan, or...anyone, really."

He touched one hand to his forelocks, sweeping a hand through his hair slowly, and rising back to his full height...even taller, in fact, if the eyes were to be trusted. He seemed three or four inches larger than he was before his little bow, his limbs ever so slightly ganglier, giving off a sense of unsettling clumsiness for the first few seconds after he rose back up; as if he had undergone a growth spurt without warning.

"Hollows come from humans...and to humans we return. In our own manner, in our own time."
