DIVINE CRUSADER

STEINER FRANZ

All On My Own (Open) 6EdIfMt

"I'm sorry, Mr. Franz, but your application for Warden of the Southwest was reviewed and denied based on factors that can not be discussed over open communication systems. I hope you understand and will return to the base for reassignment based on personal attributes and personal psychological examination scores. Have a wonderful day, Mr. Franz.", the line went dead as he stood there, lost within a sea of people of different ethnicity and ways of thinking. For a few more idle moments he held the payphone in one hand, staring blankly out at the sea of people as he felt his heart seemingly stop. All the work he had put into getting back here, to this city, and all of the effort he had put in to be good enough for the position of Warden were casually being swept under the rug. All of that work, all of that time, and all of that effort simply pushed away because someone didn't think he could hack it. He hung the phone back up, realizing that he looked like an idiot just standing their clutching it, and made his way out into the stream of traffic that seemingly filled the sidewalks.

After being tossed and turned around for a good few seconds, Steiner began to make his way through the crowd, but not in the direction they were heading. He walked against the flow, bumping, and moving people who seemingly were much too busy thinking about where they were going to pay his much mind. He kept walking through the bustle until finally turning off down a nearby alleyway and solemnly kept marching with little to no emotion being plastered on his face. He felt lost. Steiner, where are you going? The base is in the opposite direction.[/b] Sylvia said as Steiner continued on, ignoring her as he did so, and seemingly walking without true purpose or true motivation. It was like he was wandering aimlessly. Hours went by without so much as a word from Steiner, but Sylvia continue to try and speak to him. Trying her best to get some kind of reaction out of the young man, but failing to even get an iota of response from the young man.

A few more hours passed and he was at the border of the city, walking by the border guards without so much as paying them even an ounce of attention, and for the most part they left him alone. One of the guards pointed at him, maybe out of concern, or maybe out of some other emotion, but the other guards simply told him to focus on his task of defending the border. There was no time to pay attention to some red haired drifter who was of absolutely no importance, after all. That is what he was. A drifter, an unimportant number that didn't even deserve anything in this world, or the next. Why had he even bothered trying to apply for such a position of importance? Only the strong made a difference in this world after all. Not the idealists, not the good men. No, the strong, and only the strong could ever truly be protectors of the weak, and leaders of the free world. And he wanted to believe he was one of those people. He wanted to be one of those people, a person who could make a fundamental difference, but now? Now he just didn't know.

"All that work and I thought it was enough...I'm such an idiot.", Steiner spoke for the first time in a few hours as he stepped outside the border and began to walk without direction or really any idea of where he was going to end up. He just felt like he needed to walk. To get as far away from the rejection as he possibly could as every second he spent standing in Karakura felt like a thousand needles to his pride, his honor, and slap in the face to all the hard work he had put in. Halfway down a long twisting road leading to nowhere a simple jingle of the gold chain hanging from his neck brought his attention to the last true precious possession he had left in his life. Hanging from the gold chain around his neck, the Iramasha gem idly glowed in the sunlight, and Steiner lifted it to look at it with his eyes.

He remembered the climb like it was yesterday. A powerless human scaling a giant mountain with a damaged coat and barely any cold weather gear. He had spent all of the money he had, all of it to just make something of himself, and to gain the power to do the right thing. He wondered what Cirno would think of the failure that he had become, the broken man that was now staggering down a road with no end, and no destination. Anger flared in Steiner's mind as he ripped the necklace from around his throat and went to throw the gem as far as he could, but he stopped. He staggered forward, body shaking in rage, and confusion. "Why didn't they want me...", Steiner uttered as he casually placed the gem and necklace into his side pants pocket and kept marching forward.

THE BANSHEE OF SOUND

Shatari Yuudeshi

All On My Own (Open) 6EdIfMt

Song: And Then - Artist: Please - Words: N/A

Placid skies were in the mindscape of The Banshee of Karakura. Life honestly wasn't that bad for her at the moment. Was it perfect? Far from it. However, she had people that seemed to love her, the wealth of The Yuudeshi Family and a sense of stability and purpose through her talent as a guitarist, Warden Of The Vanguard and figurehead for her clan. So, for her, it was a day which felt calm, cheery and filled the woman's heart with a sense of warmth since she could feel every fiber of her being.

Though, her path was about to be alerted. After finishing up with a successful mission to purge a few Monsuta terrorist lurking in the forests of Karakura, the woman was taking the scenic route to the city and found herself perplexed at the sight of a red-haired male. A high sense of fury radiated from him as she observed the spectacle taking place before her eyes. It did not mesh well internally with her carefree attitude for the day, but that sense of unnerving aura did make her want to approach him as it seemed like he was in a high amount of pain for whatever reason.

So, after coming out of a tree, The Yuudeshi waved her hand towards the male, gave a smile and went to catch up with him as her aqua blue eyes fixed their sights on what appeared to be Steiner.

"Hi there! Aren't you....Steiner?"

Ah! Yes! In that moment it started to click. The woman couldn't make out his image from a distance, but this was one of the potential recruits to become the next Warden within the Vanguard. When that piece of information came back to her, the gears were clicking in her head and she had a hunch about what this might be about. The angry reaction, the need for isolation; it was clear they had....rejected him. And that thought in it of itself made her sad as the woman didn't like such harsh decisions, but for some reason or another they had refused his application and she knew what she was here to do now: get to the bottom of what he is feeling.

So, Shatari then started walking along his side and trying to figure out what was happening because her own sense of mortality kept nagging at her to help him in some way or another:

"Uhm, this might be a bit out of left-field, but I thought I had given you the all clear? You seemed like a good guy to me for the position. I'm not sure what happened, but I'm sorry about how things turned out. Are you ok?"

DIVINE CRUSADER

STEINER FRANZ

All On My Own (Open) 6EdIfMt

The arrival of Shatari, someone that Steiner knew from reading a few documents on her in preparation for what he had hoped would have been an acceptance into the Wardens, brought his mind out of stupor, and caused him to focus with absolute clarity. Well about as much clarity as one could have after walking absentmindedly for hours without any idea of where you were going. He stood straight up, trying his best to pretend that his earlier outburst of anger had not happened, and then began to address her with dignity. After all, she was a Warden, and though he had been declined she deserved the proper respect.

"Shatari Yuudeshi, right? Its quite the surprise to see you out here.", Steiner stated in actual surprise to seeing someone as prominent as her being out and about. She had probably been on some kind of mission and was just now returning as that was the only logical conclusion that he could come up with as to why she would be there at that particular time. "You must have some form of business to take care of and I wouldn't dare waste a Warden's time on the plights of a failure like myself.", he stated with honesty as he continued on walking, realizing that she was now walking side by side with him after only a few seconds more. He turned to face her as she began to speak again and actually began to talk to him. It kind of confused him that any of the Wardens would give him the time of day as they always seemed so busy within the confines of their own actions. He listened to every word and nodded his head after a few seconds.

He didn't know if he could tell a Warden that he was angry because he believed he had earned the rite to call himself a Warden, only to be told that he had been denied by some secretary. His anger boiled once again, but he contained it, and tried his best to keep things civil. After all, he was in the presence of a lady and a Warden at that.

"Its nice to hear that someone actually thought I was capable. Sadly it seems like the rest of the current leadership doesn't think I'm worthy of being labeled as such.", Steiner said as he placed his hands in his pockets, his right hand idly rubbing the gem that Cirno had given him as he tried his best to place together the words he could use to speak to her about how bad he felt in that moment. How lost he felt and how he felt like he deserved to be a Warden, but had been snubbed. Words seemed to fail him at this point, but he had to try, even if those words came out overly emotional, he had to try. "I'm not alright...I feel invalidated. I've struggled just as hard as any other person on the front lines can...hell, I've done it without the banner of the Vanguard at my back and I thought that would have meant more.", Steiner said as he let out a deep sigh to fill the silence. "I felt like...I don't know...I wanted to be Warden so bad. I always saw them back when I was around the first time as people with such influence and they could get things done. Things that I couldn't dare to do from the ground where I am standing.", He stated as he shook his head and looked down at the pavement.

"I thought that if I had the name 'Warden' next to mine...I could start making a difference and do more than I could do as I am now because right now? Well, right now I'm just some normal guy on a road to nowhere.", Steiner stated, folding his arms across his chest as he looked up at Shatari to see her reaction.

THE BANSHEE OF SOUND

Shatari Yuudeshi

All On My Own (Open) 6EdIfMt

Song: And Then - Artist: Please - Words: N/A

From the perception of the snow haired Yuudeshi, it seemed rather nice that the red-head was coming out of his fog of frustartion. That meant that his mind was more open to receiving new information to possibly change his point of view. As she felt that he was beating himself far too much in her mind due to the fact that everyone has failures, but it's more important to her that you jump back, fight back and figure out a way around those obstacles to improve yourself. Which is why she felt she needed to explain why she was here, get to the heart of the matter and try to change this mistake:

"It's not a surprise! I'm out on the field all the time cleaning up my mistakes."

Not really too shy to admit her mess-ups, Shatari gave a placid smile followed by a gentle laugh as she explained further on why she was here to begin with:

"I found out that a small sec of the Monsuta had been trailing me after I had finished breaking up an operation in Saburo City to try and invade Karakura Central. Since I failed to finish them all off, my mistake allowed them to get this far, but I corrected it by trying to kill those bastards~!"

More of her Yuudeshi blood started to spike up as a tone of enthusniam came toward the end of her words. They were a warrior a clan, and the thought of battle sparked up strong emotions of anger, excitement and a hunger to evolve themselves with each encounter they find themselves in. However, the starry-eyed Yuudeshi soon controlled herself, gave a soft sigh of relief and looked at Steiner as she poked his nose.

"Which is why neither yourself or myself are failures. We all make mistakes and fail, but no one on this planet doesn't go without some kind of challenge."

Wrapping her arm around his neck, Shatari pulled the male closer to herself before continuing

"I'm not certain about what the other Wardens think, but I know there is always a way to move forward. Just look at the man who foudned the vanguard: Genpaku! If he had given up and never bothered trying to make a change in the world, we wouldn't be here talking and the people who want to blow everything to high hell would have a stronger grip on the planet than they already did."

Then, with a snap of the finger, another person in the world that made a difference chimed into Shatari's mind as she flowed on with her speech.

"The same thing happened with that Cirno gal to. I had no idea who she was prior to her becoming the leader of The Guild of Heroes, but she was another nobody who believed in a good cause, kept battling her failures/setbacks and eventually held on long enough to start another resistance against these destructive people."

Again, Shatari snickered, flicked Steiner's nose and went in to close the deal on their interaction:

"Imagine if they all gave up....we would be totally fucked if you don't mind my language, hahaha~"

There was then a pause before she got more serious and focused her gaze on Steiner.

"Which is why I'd like to offer you a position in the The Boros Guard as a Second Sword. I know it's not the position you truly want, but you can't give up...what will that ultimately say about who you are, Steiner?"

DIVINE CRUSADER

STEINER FRANZ

All On My Own (Open) 6EdIfMt

"I'm sure you don't make that many mistakes. Not that there is anything wrong if you do, but you have quite a bit talent from the things I've read about you. Though merely reading about someone can never equate to personally meeting someone and learning about them first hand, I reckon.", the red haired youth stated as he removed his hands from his pockets, one arm moving behind his head, so his hand could rub it.

He doubted he was giving her a good first impression of himself after he had so casually walked away from Karakura after being declined the position of Warden. Maybe he was acting a bit childish? Perhaps that was true, but it did make him feel rather marginalized as he felt he was just as skilled as the others and fit nicely with the personnel that he would be working with moving forward. That marginalization brought him out to this road and this chance encounter, so maybe everything happened for a reason and maybe that reason was for him to see what a Warden was first hand. And to be honest, his first impressions of young lady were quite praise worthy.

"I dealt with some Monsuta forces back in Vastime...they don't really play fair to be honest and to have them get this close to Karakura is kind of unsettling.", he said honestly as he had a momentary flash back to when he had to fight Monsuta forces. It seemed like it was a lifetime ago that he had been so powerless and defenseless in the face of such superior presence and might, but things had been on the up for him lately. He wondered just how he would fair now if he was put in the same situation, if he would approach things any differently, and attempt to do things another way. Hindsight was twenty, twenty. A poke of the nose brought Steiner back to reality and he listened to what the white haired woman had to say to him about failures.

"I kind of agree with that statement...though failing to live up to my own aspirations does fill with me an anger that isn't so easily sated by mere words. Still, I have been challenged my whole life, and have done what I could with what I had. I suppose nothing less could be asked of me.", more honest words from the young man were given to the white haired female. He was surprised by her pulling him in closer, her arms around his neck, and pulling him extremely close to her. He could smell from this distance the residual scent of battle, a mixture of blood, sweat, and the satisfaction of a job well done. He knew those smells well as he too had been in his fair share of skirmishes over his lifetime, still he wondered why she was dragging him so close to her. A slight pink colorization formed on his cheeks as he stared into her eyes as she spoke to him.

The words flowed into him like water into a bucket and much like a bucket he allowed the information to pool up till it was at its' brim. A lot of it was right, though he had never met Genpaku he knew of how important his legacy was, and after meeting Cirno so long ago he knew that she was truly a heroic being. Someone he more than possibly strove to be like regardless of his level of strength or his understanding of the darkness that encroached from all corners of the globe. Though, he did believe she misconstrewed what he was doing here. He wasn't quitting being a hero, he was just walking away from the Vanguard because he felt like they didn't understand what he wanted to do by obtaining the position. He could do more good with a position that would allow him to be more active around the world and then trying to find evil where it lurked. To be so high up would give him access to alerts of major happenings and allow him to protect people on a much more global scale. After all, the Vanguard's role was to protect the world, and that was something he knew he could do if given the chance to prove it.

"I will never give up, I am never going to quit being a hero, and striving to protect others. If the Vanguard didn't exist, I would still be fighting the good fight, and doing what I thought was right to make the world a better place. Though, I'm sure you already know the type of person that I am as I'm sure some kind of file was passed around when my application become public knowledge.", Steiner stated as he listened to the last bit of what she had to say. He paused for a moment, listening to her offer intently, and giving it a great deal of thought as the proposal was quite sound.

Having worked with the Boros Guard before as a member before, he knew all to well their inner workings, and how they operated within the command structure of the Vanguard. The offer of Second Sword did seem enticing, but at the same time merely felt like a consolation prize instead of an promotion to a position. There was an awkward silence as Steiner's brain fought between itself. His anger telling him to tell her to shove the job as he felt that he deserved more, but the heroic part of him told him he would still be doing honorable work and be able to protect people even if it were to a lesser role than what he would have been able to do as a Warden. Still, he knew that to decline would solidify himself as something that he truly wasn't. He was no coward or a quitter, he was the Hero of Honor, someone who had received training from multiple people so that his heroic intentions could become a reality.

"You're absolutely right, that is not the position that I wanted, and though I feel disappointed that my effort to improve myself as a person and as warrior are not good enough for the appointment to Warden...I will accept. But know this, I will not be satisfied as Second Sword, and I will not rest until I am where I think I belong and when I get there...I am going to be the best Warden that the Vanguard has ever had. Mark my words.", Steiner stated with anger and pride, extending his hand to Shatari with a look of determination and frustration on his face.
