The calm and quiet demeanor that Hyvanna displays on a daily basis is not a true representation of the chaotic and troubled heart she possesses, but it is the part of her she prefers showing the world. She isn’t the most social of people. The reclusive and violent past she’s been subject to has left her with very little social skills. She can blend into society like normal, but she isn’t the friendliest of people. She has a habit of being insulting and uncaring toward those who try and talk to her. When someone tries to talk to her, she often ignores it and can easily become annoyed by the attempted conversation. Persistent people may get a reaction out of her, but if it isn’t a kind one, it may just be a powerful punch to the gut to get them to leave her alone. Hyvanna communicates more through action than words. Words are often filled with selfishness and lies.
Hyvanna prefers to keep her distance from emotions that will attach herself to other people. The idea of getting close to others scares her because of the last time she did. It is easier to stay distant from people and not get attached than watching them betray or leave her. However, even though she doesn’t open up to people, she can see the good in others and will support them if they need help. Just because she doesn’t get close to them, or rely on them like she would a friend, doesn’t mean she’s evil or neglectful. She wouldn’t let someone sit back and suffer. Hyvanna is the type of woman to go out of her way to keep people safe because she knows she can. Unlike many that she’s met, Hyvanna can take a beating and dish one out. She’ll support those who she thinks will deserve it.
Trusting people on a general level is very different than trusting someone on a personal level. Hyvanna can trust most of the population to mind their own business, to not try to attack her, and to ignore her in normal circumstances. The general population is nothing special to her. It’s those that stand out that are the ones she can trust. These are people that try to talk to her, try to befriend her, try to attack her, and/or try to get closer to her in any way. Trying to get personal with her is what will make her turn away from you. If you’re speaking with her, it’s more than likely just business because she doesn’t trust anyone to be honest and because of that she doesn’t want to make friends. In her mind, anyone that will try to be her friend is wanting to use her, betray her, or will suddenly be gone.
Hyvanna has an excess of memories that haunt her day after day. These memories are what make her not want to trust anyone or make any friends. The only thing that makes her want to help people is the idea of being a different person. She wants to let go of her past and forgive herself for the things she’s done. She wants to find a way to be forgiven by those she has hurt. She wants to figure out a way to forgive the things that were done to her. There are times she wishes that she could forget her entire past completely, like gaining amnesia, and just start over again. She hates herself and what she has become. She hates what she has to do to survive but has too much unfinished business to just give up and throw in the towel. Hyvanna has a strong will, even if her actions don’t prove it.
The thought of having friends one day gives Hyvanna hope for her future, but her fears of what happens when she gains friends holds her back. She has come to the decision that the only way to remedy this is by killing the man that made her who and what she is. If she is able to get her revenge and kill him, then she fully believes that her troubles will be no more. Since this man has not just hurt her, but has also hurt a great many people, she believes that his death will put to ease the hearts and souls of the hundreds of victims that he claimed over the years. Hyvanna doesn’t just seek revenge for herself, but for all of them as well. It is the idea of gaining revenge in order to make amends that keeps her going. It is the one way she can truly be free and become the person she wants to become.
When Hyvanna was born, she was taken away from her family. She has no idea why or who her family was. The only thing she knew about them was that they were human, unlike what she is now. She was quickly adopted by a man she only called Dad. His name is not one she’ll ever speak again, mainly because she doesn’t remember it. She only remembers him and sees him as “Dad.” For years, she grew up in that man’s house, being raised a happy child. He would go away for work and return happy. He always made sure to cook for her and gave her a juice that he specially made. He never gave it a name, but she had a cup of that juice once a day for years. The juice was a sweet fruit mix with watermelon and strawberry flavors perfectly blended and always served cold. Hyvanna loved it and asked for it all the time. That juice is where it all began.
It was almost like an addiction, but not one anyone would notice. A child drinking a fruit juice that her Father made for her? There was nothing wrong with that, except Hyvanna realized she always felt weird when she didn't drink it. If she skipped a day, she felt down and couldn't think straight. It became a part of her daily life, a habit she didn't want to shake because it was delicious. As she got older, Hyvanna learned to make it herself. It was just a few fruits, sugar, and this secret ingredient that her Father wouldn't tell her the name of. He always said it was his little secret and she'll learn what it was once she was old enough. Because she loved and trusted her Dad, she never questioned it and went on with her life like she normally did. Every single day, she would drink that juice and enjoy every moment of it, until she found out that it was preserved demon blood.
She was seventeen when she overheard her Dad talking to someone in his office about her. Different events over her life quickly became clearer. Why was she stronger than most regular humans? Why was she faster than most regular humans? Why did she heal ten times as quickly as other people? Why could she break a leg and it by fine the next day? Her Dad had been feeding her drops of demon blood since she was little, slowly altering her body's DNA to fit some experiment. Over the years, the amount changed, becoming more and more condensed as her body got used to the foreign addition. When she caught him speaking about this, she gathered the courage to open the door. Her Dad was talking on the phone and looked horrified when he was caught, but that expression soon fell. He hung up the phone and turned to Hyvanna with a serious expression.
From that day on, Hyvanna's life went to hell. She did her best to trust her Dad. He had explained that when she was young, she was very sickly and needed something to help her adjust to the large amount of energy she was born with. Her energy was wild and uncontrollable, so it often caused her pain. With the demon blood, her body was forced to adapt. By the time she was old enough to remember this, the pain had stopped. It made sense and he was her Dad, so why wouldn't she trust him? She pushed back her worries and moved on with her life. It wasn't a week later that she woke up in an unfamiliar bed in a dark room under some hot lights. She was chained down, not just strapped down. When she tried to break free, she was only wasting her strength. It felt like hours before someone came in. It was her Dad and three other men she did not recognize.
Hyvanna was told to be quiet and it'll all be over soon, but it wasn't. Hours of pain and screaming left her broken and weak. They kept poking and prodding at her, draining blood, inserting fluids that she didn't understand, but made her blood burn. She had no idea how long she was imprisoned there, but by the time they were done experimenting on her body, she was thin, pale, and very weak. It felt like a dream. None of it felt real. And one day, she woke up in her bed like nothing had happened. There was no pain, her body was back to normal, and she felt perfectly fine. When she went down stairs to check on her Father, he was cooking breakfast and acting so relieved. He explained to her that she had been in an accident and bedridden for two weeks and the doctors kept giving her medicine to keep her out of pain, but it also made her mind hazy, so she forgot.
Over the next year, Hyvanna experienced a number of terrifying visions and nightmares. In the middle of the day, she would see and feel her body being poked and prodded. In her sleep, she dreamed of her body being ripped apart and her blood replaced with a thick black fluid. The dreams repeated over and over again almost every night for the entire year. As time went on, they became clearer and Hyvanna began to recognize them as memories. She refused to confront her Dad immediately and began sneaking around his office and the basement in order to figure out what was going on. She found a safe she couldn't get into in her Dad's office and a door heavy wooden hidden in the basement that was locked. Feeling betrayed and angry, not being able to get into that door was a final straw. With adrenaline pumping, she ended up kicking the door into the hidden room.
The hidden room was filled with strange equipment, like something you'd see in a surgical room, but not exactly that. It was terrifying and she found dried blood in different areas. For some reason, she could just tell that some of it was hers, but not all of it. It made her wonder how many people had been down there. As she was looking, her Dad came down and found her looking through his things. For a couple of minutes, they fought verbally. When Hyvanna wasn't getting the answers that she wanted, something within her snapped and she slammed him against the concrete wall that their basement was made of. The two fought and to Hyvanna's surprise, she was able to incapacitate him. She demanded answers and though he resisted for some time more, he finally gave in when she broke down. For some reason, he felt guilty when he saw her cry and explained it all.
This man adopted her for an experiment. From the moment she came into his custody, she was being fed demonic blood in order to slowly adapt her body to a specific procedure. The procedure was meant to create half breeds and that was it. There was no secret military reason. There was no true advancement in technology or medicine desired. This man, the one she grew up calling Dad, was truly only interested in the "what if" scenario. "What if I combined a human and demon." Apparently, he had tried more traditional ways of creating half-breeds before, but the unborn child pretty much ate the women from the inside out. Not everyone could handle carrying the offspring of a demon. She understood what was being said, but there was something that made no sense to her. Since her Dad was human, where did the demon part come from? He never answered.
No matter how many times she asked or begged, he would not tell her where it came from. Something in her heart made her want to know. She needed to know who she was now part of. She needed to understand what was going to happen to her. He refused to give that to her. The last thing that he told her was that he was still sneaking bits of blood into her food on a daily basis. It was how she was staying stable and not going into a frenzy. She was quickly reminded of the legends of vampires and he confirmed it. "You can call it that." She was going to need to feed off of the blood of humans in order to not go crazy. At first, she couldn't do this. She left home and tried to eat normal food, but it started to drive her insane. Human food was able to sustain her enough to continue living, but only blood could revitalize her body, give her energy, and keep her alive and well.
It took Hyvanna years to adjust to the lifestyle of a half-demon. There were things she didn't understand at first, like the emergence of her demonic energy. Demons called it Za Koa, but she wasn't sure whether that was what she had since it implied a connection to Touketsu. Because of that, the energy she has must be some sort of corrupted version of reiryoku, but she cannot be sure. In reality, it didn't matter. She had a force inside her that she was forced to learn to control. It gave her scary abilities, ones that she never thought she would have, but do prove to be helpful in different ways. Even though it took her half a century, she learned to control this energy within her as if it were just an extension of herself. At times, she still has problems with it, as if it is fighting against her nature, but she makes due and does what she can. She just knows she has to be careful.
Vitae Essentia (Life Essence) -- This is what Hyvanna calls her energy, but in reality her energy is a very strange fusion of Reiryoku and Za Koa. This energy does not come back naturally like other energy does. Instead, it will only return if Hyvanna consumes the blood from another being. The energy their blood carries acts like calories and other nutrients for her. It keeps her body healthy and allows her energy to regenerate over time. As long as she has eaten, she'll be okay. Though blood is the first and most powerful source for this, she can get this from meats and dairies. Because of the way this works, she has to feed on blood at least once a week to get enough nutrients. Regular food can be consumed at any other time for small boosts and for regular sustenance.➤
Fangs -- Hyvanna is able to extend and retract elongated fangs where her canines would normally be. She is able to pierce flesh in order to drink blood like a vampire.➤
Eligere (Select) -- Hyvanna's blood and saliva are filled with what can be compared to a virus. When she bites into someone, or someone consumes her blood, their own energy will be corrupted and they gain her natural abilities and a frenzied form of their own. Required pieces of frenzied form have a "*" next to it. Permission needed to turn PCs.➤
Obumbravit (Shadowed) -- Hyvanna's skin is extremely sensitive to sunlight. She can handle most unnatural lights fine, but sunlight coming into contact with her skin can create bad burns over short amount of time. This short amount of time is merely a few seconds. Prolonged exposure will slowly turn her to ash. Anyone with this ability will have only a few seconds to get out of the sunlight depending on their tier:
5-tier: 2 seconds
4-tier: 4 seconds
3-tier: 6 seconds
2-tier: 8 seconds
1-tier: 10 seconds
0-tier: 12 seconds➤
Acuti Sensus (Sharp Sense) -- In Hyvanna's case, her five senses are always in overdrive. Unlike in many cases where the people conveniently only have their eye sight and hearing enhanced, all five of her senses are effected. She's able to see five times as far as a normal human, hear a pen drop three stories above, smell food from the next block over, taste individual ingredients in a meal, and her sensitivity to touch, pain, and pleasure is double the norm. This is why her pain tolerance is extremely high.➤
Renovare (Renew) -- Hyvanna's body regenerates at an extremely accelerated rate and in normally impossible ways. Her cells multiply and create new ones very quickly, allowing her to regenerate limbs and heal without leaving scars. Hyvanna can choose to accelerate this process even more, allowing her to instantly regrow limbs while on the battlefield. She can only pull this off twice per thread. After doing it the second time, she will have depleted her energy/blood by 50%. If she tries a third time, she has a 50% chance for it to fail. Whether pass or fail, she will pass out after the third attempt.
Racial Abilities & Skills
Oculis Capti (Charmed Eyes) -- Permission needed on PCs. This ability allows Hyvanna to hypnotize a person by looking them in the eyes. Once hypnotized, they are subject to any suggestion she makes. If the suggestion completely goes against their moral standing, then they can fight against it as long as their Willpower is greater than her own. Those with Willpower equal to her own can fight it as well, but it'll be difficult. ➤
Verrat (Streak) -- This is what she calls her "Shadow Movement." With no teacher, Hyvanna had to learn a lot of this on her own. A lot of it was through observing other people, demons, shinigami, and humans alike. Hyvanna's skill in Verrat is about average. If she ever got someone to teach her how to use it and understand it more, her skill in the subject would skyrocket. She's a natural with speed and speed based movements. ➤
Solvere (Release) -- This is what she calls her "Demon Magic." She knows little about demon magic and only has a couple of basic spells that she can use.Shadow Strike:
This spell rapidly collects surrounding shadows and fires them forward in a three inch cylindrical beam. Because it's made of shadow, significant sources of light can weaken it. However, weak sources of light will not bother it and sometimes strengthen it depending on the shadows that the weak light creates. Hyvanna can use the spell up to ten times in a thread. This spell is quick, easy, and efficient. It's her Byakurai.Shadow Sheet:
This spell rapidly collects surrounding shadows and shapes them into a solid sheet. The spell is mostly used in a defensive manner, acting as a shield. Because it's made of shadow, significant sources of light can weaken it. However, weak sources of light will not bother it and sometimes strengthen it depending on the shadows that the weak light creates. Hyvanna can use this spell up to five times in a thread.➤
Informem (Formless) -- Hyvanna has the ability to shape shift into different people and animals. It does not give her any sort of bonus. It only allows her to look differently.
