RISE OF A KIDO SAVANT

Artist: N/A - Song: N/A

...Wait, since when did Geki work on other Kido?!

By the time it dawned on Ryuzawa that he was still running alongside a bolt of Byakurai lightning that had stopped on the spot in mid-air, he was already committed to the attack. He too ended up at a standstill beneath Byakuya's silent second invocation of the same spell. He strained against it quite in vain - mostly on principle - but beneath the indignation on his face, he was listening keenly to Byakuya's assessment.

When he was released from the Bakudo and given leave to try again, he shook off his surprise and hopped backwards, creating a more comfortable opening between himself and his... would opponent be too strong a word? Tutor, more like. Well, if he wanted to see something dangerous, Ryuzawa knew just what to show him.

He came to a stop, feet apart, and raised his empty left hand to point his palm at the venerable Captain. He closed his eyes, pursed his lips in thought, in remembrance. He had found that, when invoking this particular spell, it helped to bring to mind the same vision that had first inspired it - blazing wings of light to strike down the foe.

That same green light rose from a mote to a searing flame in his outstretched hand. When he felt prepared, when the light burned brightest, he brandished it forward and the light erupted in a volley of fiery bolts of reiatsu, bearing down on Byakuya in dizzying arcs. Byakuya wanted dangerous - he was about to get it.

ANGEL OF THE CHERRY BLOSSOM

Artist: Pokemon D/P/PT - Song: Ending

Remaining in place, Byakuya kept a keen eye on Ryuzawa as the young man channeled his energy -- something that Byakuya would also be doing, channeling energy into the palm of his hand in order to prepare himself for the future attack that he was going to have sent at him. Thus, as Ryuzawa cast his spell and send the barrage of green fireballs toward Byakuya, he quickly scanned over them, able to come to the conclusion that he didn't have time to take them down one by one.

Thus, keeping his hand out, Byakuya released the energy built up in his palm in order to quickly manifest an almost transparent barrier in front of him, Bakudo #81, Danku, mere moments before the fireballs would impact the wall of energy, making very noticeable black marks from where they touched the Bakudo spell before Byakuya dispelled the barrier and returned his hands to his sides as he remained impassive to the spell as his cold gaze scanned over Ryuzawa for a moment, before he spoke.

"Better. Now, channel that power and resolve into your other Kido."

Taking a brief glance at the area around him, Byakuya was able to note the faint traces of the Head Captain's energy -- most notably, the traces of her will that were a portion of the particles from this attack. So, Byakuya held a hand up as a flicker of blue energy flashed on his hand.

"Now, defend yourself. Sōkatsui."

After stating the name of the Kido, a blast of blue fire fired from his hand, surging towards Ryuzawa. Should he not generate a defense in time, the blast of fire would explode in his face, dealing a moderate amount of damage, especially so from the skill difference between the two. Though, this blast would not be able to kill him -- as there was some level of restraint from the veteran. This session was meant to teach and refine the young man, and while he did intend to give at least some level of power to the attack, he was keen to ensuring that nothing he did was fatal.

Well then. If there was one thing Ryuzawa could take some measure of pride in, it was that his unique Kido had elicited such a strong response. Danku - the towering and near-impregnable Bakudo barrier, no doubt chosen so that Byakuya could safely observe the strength of an attack with which he wasn't the least bit familiar. To be able to cast it silently, though, was an obvious mark of the royal's mastery of Kido.

That'll be me one day soon. The thought passed, unbidden but not unwelcome, through Ryuzawa's mind, then he steeled himself for Byakuya's answer. Channel that power and resolve, he said. That could only mean he had recognised Ryuzawa's Kido - this burgeoning new power - for what it was.

Ryuzawa took the advice in stride. When Byakuya's swirling Sokatsui bore down on him, he made no attempt to avoid it. He braced himself, held his katana forwards in a diagonal guard across his chest, laid the forefingers of his left hand on the heel of the blade. The steel crackled immediately with a surge of reiatsu - the young Shinigami's own, bolstered by the influence of the Captain-Commander.

"Byakurai!"

The blue sphere slowed, then exploded some meters ahead of its target. Through the other side burst a seething beam of lightning, bearing down on Byakuya directly, followed by its master - Ryuzawa ran, scorched and wincing but unbowed, towards his waiting opponent. His sword was ablaze with green light, and with a swing to his right, he unleashed another volley of green fireballs, spinning their dizzying dance in a wide arc to close in on Byakuya's left.

"Tsuikyuu Kagizume!"

An unfamiliar incantation, one never spoken before, but the swirling green bolts of energy responded immediately as if called by name to fiery action. They flew that little bit faster, bore down on Byakuya at an urgent and ferocious pace, and all the while, the young Shinigami himself closed in to leap at the royal and bring his blade down in an overhand slash.
