THE SUPERNATURAL HUMAN TEMPLATE
Spiritual Human Profile
I. Basic Information» Name:
Shin Adachi» Titles:
Houdini of Crime, 21st Inheritor, Just an Engineering Student» Age:
N/A» Physical Appearance Description:
With a slight frame and a fair complexion, Shin doesn't really stand out too much from his peers as he appears to be nothing more than average academic with poor fashion sense. Wearing basic clothing, his school uniform, and a set of glasses it is easy to see why many wouldn't be able to pick him out from a lineup as he lacks many identifying features. In fact, many could say that Shin is almost too average, as he sports the typical Japanese hair style, eye color, and identifying marks of his country of birth. While this may be bland by many people's standards, it is extremely helpful in his pursuit of blending into a crowd, and even hiding in plain sight. In fact, most of the appearance that Shin puts on is merely there to insure that no one can pick him out based on basic police procedures.
He chooses to wear bland clothing, style himself in a way that is not necessarily in the now, and act like an absolute student when approached. This gives him an air of someone who isn't necessarily capable of the feats of thievery or treachery, and that is exactly how Shin likes to be treated. In truth, underneath his basic clothing, and intellectual mask is a body honed by years of training in the arts of thievery and espionage. Shin's physical form isn't as underdeveloped as his slacked shouldered and slouched postures tend to show, in fact he is almost completely lean muscle that has been developed for the basic usage on operations. Every inch of him has been hardwired, through the passing of the mantle, to be as physically capable as possible for the acts of acrobatics and combat, though combat only as a last resort. He hides this well by going out of his way to slouch his shoulders and make himself appear as completely un-intimidating as possible which is easy for a man who trained under the former Master Thief.
The slouching also hides his slightly higher than average height of 6'5 rather well from the populace as he appears to be rather short when one would look at him from far distances. In fact, Shin tries his hardest to make himself to seem helpless or useless most of the time as to avoid being found out or from being forced to do something that he doesn't want to do. He can usually be seen with a book in his hand and his school bag on his person most of the time. Inside of the bag are an assortment of tools typical for an engineering student and useful for repairing damaged equipment, after all his parents run a repair shop. However, almost everything in Shin's bag can be used for operations, and that is by design, after all when the need to steal arises, he doesn't want to be unprepared.
As Houdini, Shin is almost completely different in appearance save for the color of his hair, and its style. His eyes can shift from red to yellow to their original gray colorization and his sense of style has changed from conservative to absolutely flashy. A black coat over varying shades of gray clothing is usually the most typical clothing that he wears when he becomes Houdini, but sometimes the colors can change depending on the mission he is going on. As Houdini, his identity is shielded by a mask that acts as an optical enhancing tool and as a way to hide his identity from those that would try to discern who he really was. The red gloves on his hands are made of a fine material that not only allows him to hide his own fingerprints, but also through the power of modern engineering, allow him to fool advanced bio-metric locks to help him bypass security systems.
On his person are multiple holsters all of which are occupied by either thieve's tools or gadgets that can be used to escape or to momentarily give him the upper hand. All of the tools and gadgets on his person are made by him, thus making it hard to trace back the origin of the devices, as most of them are mash-up of multiple tech from different eras. These gadgets vary from time to time, but most of the time Houdini carries a knife on his person, this knife is associated with the master thieves of old, and can be used as a weapon or as a tool itself.» Physical Appearance Image:

I. Personality Traits» Personality:Shin TraitsAnalytical -
Logic is an extremely big part of what makes up Shin Adachi's world. He is an Engineering student who backs up most of his research with facts, things that have been gathered by the greatest minds in the world and the next, to craft his devices, and to hone his skills. Further from that he also views the world logically, some things are unavoidable because of one's actions, and from the reactions of those that the action was perpetrated on. This is just basic knowledge. He also tends to go too far into this and tends to push people away at times due to his beliefs and how he approaches the real world. He believes strongly in the facts and little else and when something pushes those facts to the side it takes him a while to adjust to them and to accept them as the new "normal".Kind -
Despite his social ineptitude, Shin does act kind towards the less fortunate, and the few friends he does have. After all, in a world that is dictated by logic it is better to be owed a favor than to owe someone a favor. This kindness may seem like manipulation, but in truth it is just a logical conclusion that Shin completely agrees with as he has been on the other side of owing someone as opposed to being owed.Introverted -
Unlike many geniuses who were nurtured by the wealthy or by their families, Shin tends to isolate himself from mostly everybody. Keeping his scientific research, his social status, and his ideologies a secret from most individuals. It takes a great deal of work to simply get Shin to even simply open up and share even a little bit of what is going on in his day to day with others. There is truly no reason for this, but many assume it is due to an inferiority complex that is hard to shake in the presence of such gifted students. After all, Shin is merely an average Engineering student who would probably only work a desk job at a firm somewhere, right?Trustworthy -
Shin's average appearance and introverted demeanor tends to make him probably one of the most trustworthy individuals in the entire academy, let alone on the Earth. Shin tends to be helpful and tends to keep secrets well, not telling a single soul about anything that he is told, not that he could even muster the courage to speak to others about the things that he is being told. People seem to open up to him, some out of pity, and others because they generally want to hear his opinion, or they believe that he could be a useful pawn for them to manipulate later. Shin doesn't seem to mind, right?Curious -
Shin is an absolutely curious individual. Science, math, art, and literature being among the many different things that peek the interest of the young man as he swims through the ocean that is life. This curious nature tends to bring him to odd places. Locked rooms that he somehow magically whisked himself into, off limit locations where security cameras are not present or malfunctioning, or even into the private quarters of the Academy's dean. No one knows how Shin gets to these places or how he is able to just "appear" there, but Shin is so helpless, so small, and so scared whenever he gets found that it is obvious that even he is surprised that he got into these places. After all, its just Shin, and there is no way he could be doing these things on purpose.Klutz -
Shin is a bit of a klutz, tending to forget things, or even trip over himself at times when things get hectic. This sometimes leads to the damaging of property or even the unwanted barging in on conversations that he should not be privy to. Still, people let it slide due to Shin's natural clumsiness, something that has been there ever since they have known him. Sometimes people wonder how he ever finishes his projects on time with the amount of damage he causes on any given day. He does seem calmer with tools in his hands though, maybe that is the trick?Houdini TraitsConfident - "With realization of one's own potential and self-confidence in one's ability, one can build a better world. - Dalai Lama"
The real Shin, Houdini, is a much more prideful individual than most would give him credit for. The majority of people see the klutzy and introverted individual that Shin is an assumed that he is probably a deeply flawed individual, but in Shin's mind? Well in Shin's mind that is just not the case. The real Shin views himself as a shark in a sea full of minnows that can't even grasp the magnitude of the thing that they are swimming with. This is evident in how Houdini operates on missions, as everything he does is done with a poise that is not possible for a man who has no confidence or who is as small as the fake Shin is. The real Shin can easily strut his stuff, but he continues to act as a klutz and an average student because it fits his design of staying on the low and not attracting too much attention. He doesn't want to get busted as Houdini and he sure as hell doesn't want to put any of that on his parents and the people he actually cares for. Sly - "When a sinister person means to be your enemy, they always start by trying to become your friend. - William Blake"
The real Shin is manipulative, but not a being who tends to openly try to hurt those he gets involved with. Tending to target individuals with his more sly and vengeful nature who are absolutely worthy of being targeted. Bullies, corrupt politicians, and wrong doers in general are usually the ones who get to deal with the real Shin's sly nature first hand. Though this sly nature can at times be more of a positive thing, with Shin actively using it for the betterment of others, or to be helpful in his own personal life. The latter being more common than the other, as Shin tends to use his sly natural disposition for his own gain most of the time. Sometimes on "accident" barging into the teacher's lounge to plant evidence or to steal the answers to exams or sometimes on "accident" overhearing a bit of information that could be critical at later time for an operation. The fake Shin persona is too small and too weak to be a threat and the mask serves him well if he gets caught.Mischievous - "...up to no good—and pleased about it.” - Dean Koontz, Odd Apocalypse"
The real Shin tends to enjoy the art of the game, always going to new heights to test out his thief skills or his devices. This tends to end poorly for those who are on the wrong end of Shin's shit list. A small explosive detonating on a device being crafted by an asshole that makes it look like it malfunctioned, a piece of important documentation disappearing without a trace overnight as some guy who extorted another student for the paperwork tries hard to explain things, or simply security equipment going on the fritz for no explanation whatsoever. All of these things are products of Shin's true nature and while the majority of them are malevolent, they tend to be aimed at the most sinister elements, and those who are deserving of the targeting. He also tends to try out his gizmos and skills on the most challenging things: hyper security, off limit locations, and impenetrable firewalls are all places that Shin enjoys breaking down with his own skills for fun and at his leisure. Extroverted - "An arrogant person considers himself perfect. This is the chief harm of arrogance. It interferes with a person's main task in life - becoming a better person. - Leo Tolstoy"
Houdini is flashy, almost gaudily so, and with good reason! After all, if you have the skills, and the talent then there is no reason to hide them, in fact why not just show them off at all times! On an operation, Shin tends to taunt, and openly defy those he is stealing from because he simply can. This could be due to the amount of time he has to spend pretending to be someone introverted that when he finally manages to take the mask off and become himself? Well all of that proud, borderline arrogant remarks come spewing out like no one else's business. This tends to get him labeled a braggart and a crude man, but in reality that isn't much the case. He just feels kind of sealed off from the rest of the world most of time and those few times that he can be himself he tends to try too hard to make up for lost time.Calm and Collected - "Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, it empties today of its strength. - Corrie ten Boom"
With a set of tools in his hand, there is no one who is more calm or collected than Shin Adachi. Even when his fake mask is on, this is something that he can't hide from the world, and it is one of the few qualities that Shin shares universally with Houdini. The clicking of a keyboard is a melody, the chipping of pliers is a symphony, and the sound of a lock opening after the right cypher is input? Well that is just pure bliss for a man like himself. In dangerous situations where everything is on the line it is easy to bet on him. He is not easily shaken by anything, after all in a world like the one he lives in, where anything goes, and everything is on the table it is better to be expecting the impossible than believing that logic can get you far. Even more so he tends to be more collected in these pressure situations as he views them as challenges and in his mind a challenge is a welcome invitation for him to overcome whatever obstacle is placed in his way.A True Prodigal Genius- "Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings. - Salvador Dali"
He rose from the filth and muck, fought against the shackles of poverty and won, and he has the scars, the wisdom, and the knowledge to prove it. Shin's intelligence is way above those that think of him as merely an engineering student, in fact his intelligence is of such a high caliber that many of the greatest minds in the world and the next would view him as an equal, and this is due to hard work and absolute dedication. Through trial and error, Shin has honed his mind to think on a level that is comparable to most of the well known hyper intelligent families, and this is a great help in his line of work as both a student and as a thief. This also breeds a sort of superiority complex, but at the same time is it really a complex when it is true? Shin doesn't tend to look down on others or flaunt his intelligence, in fact at times he likes to play dumb, and allow himself to have someone flaunt their stuff than correct them if they are wrong. But in truth, Shin really want to talk to someone he can view as his equal, and more importantly someone who can grasp the concepts that he works on, but he has yet to meet anyone of that level, and he doubts he ever will. Still, it is rather lonely at times being too smart, so playing the dumb fool does tend to make it easier to make friends, even if they are false ones.» Likes:

I. Other Supernatural Abilities» Powers:Type-Null:
The sixth sense of sensing energy signatures is the way of the future! Technology has been designed with the purpose of aiding in tracking down dangerous energy signatures as to allow for the protection of important resources, military bases, and whole countries. Yet, with Shin's ability the sixth sense can be fooled, and that ability is known as Type-Null. Type-Null is the simple release of a "base" level of spiritual energy into the air from Shin's own person that actively reflects, disorients, and confuses machinery and individuals with strong sensory abilities. The stronger the machine or the more acute the sensory ability of the person looking for Shin, the easier time Type-Null has of helping Shin escape detection. This is merely due to ambient spiritual energy which is extremely common in today's society with the amount of powered beings walking the earth. Type-Null releases just enough energy to cause the outward particles around him to act as a "buffer", basically giving the appearance of there being no one actively in that direct area. While still absolutely visually visible, the buffer zone acts as a two way mirror, the person inside the zone can sense those outside, but the people outside can not sense the person inside. Furthermore, if an enemy or a sensory machine were to step past the buffer zone they would be able to sense Shin immediately as they would have entered past the buffer zone.
This zone can be actively expanded with concentration and extra energy being released into the air from Shin's person, and as such can be used to actively conceal multiple people. This extra effect, however takes a great deal of concentration and depending on how large the buffer zone is made, an increasing amount of spiritual energy will need to be used to make the zone larger. If Shin's concentration is broken, the area of effect will either rapidly inflate or rapidly decrease. Either exposing allies or putting enemies inside of the zone, thus endangering not only Shin, but his party members. To counter Type-Null there are two methods, one is through natural acclimation as over time the body's natural equilibrium will cause the body to adjust, and eventually the senses will begin to pick up slight irregularities. This process takes time and in the case of Shin this might be hard to pull off. The other method is to not utilize the passive energy sensory of the sixth sense, but to actively search for irregularities. This method is much faster, but also requires knowing Shin is around before hand and even more so requires a direct direction to focus the active sense toward, once again difficult to pull off, but none the less necessary to countering Type-Null.
Type-Null is always active, which means those who are in close proximity to Shin can, and usually are well acclimated to this ability, however Type-Null can be turned off, and to do so requires a bit more concentration as to force the ability to not be active. Once deactivated, Shin receives a "boost" to his spiritual energy reserves as he is not constantly leaking energy into the air to cause the effect, and as such has most energy to spare for abilities. The size of Type-Null is passively two feet around Shin in every direction, meaning he has a small buffer area to perform his thievery, and exploit the effects of the ability. Lastly, as currently sitting Shin can only attempt to enlarge the zone of Type-Null once per thread, as once he has been detected and the enemy has become aware of him, it is harder for him to actively use this part of the ability without being actively assaulted. Thus it is harder to concentrate on enlarging the area.Pass Without a Trace:
Harnessing the power of spiritual energy, Shin can launch himself in a similar fashion to a Shunpo in any direction that he chooses. Unlike Shunpo, however this form of movement is completely inaudible, and for a few seconds after reaching his destination he becomes completely undetectable via sight. The effect of being able to completely drown out his spiritual energy is similar to how he creates a buffer zone around himself via Type-Null, however unlike Type-Null the sense of sight is fooled as well. This effect is created by the ambient spiritual energy he releases via his Type-Null being focused in such a way that the energy reflects back the light provided by either natural or artificial light. This gives the appearance of there being an empty space where Shin is standing upon reaching his destination for a few seconds, granting him a short window to perform actions, and use his impressive intelligence to formulate a plan. After that window has passed the spiritual particles return to their normal state and reveal Shin.
This form of movement has several critical parts to have it be performed in the proper way to accomplish its' intended task. First off, Shin must take a step toward the direction he intends to "jump" to, and this in many ways makes it easy to pick off what Shin is intending to do. Those who are unfamiliar with the technique may be caught off guard for a bit before this technique nuances become easier to see. Secondly, this technique requires a lot of energy control, as the particles of energy being put off from his body, must be put into a state that can reflect the light around the destination he intends to go to. This also means that once the location of where this "jump" is going to has been decided, there is no turning back, or changing trajectory. The trade off for this limit is Shin's ability to pass through solid objects, such as walls, or even barriers if he so sees fit, but he must have seen his destination beforehand, and be within the techniques effective range for this to work without a hitch, otherwise the ability will fizzle.
Also it is extremely hard to constantly use this ability, with Shin only being able to pull this technique off consecutively two or three times before having to allow himself time to recharge. This limits its combat effectiveness, but with more training there is no reason that this ability could not be consecutively used without draining too much stamina. Lastly, the distance that can be traveled can be calculated based on the focus skill:
» Pure Abilities:
- Beginner: 5 Feet
- Adept: 10 Feet
- Advanced: 20 Feet
- Master: 50 Feet
- Grand Master: 100 Feet
