HATTORI SAYA

The Wandering Sueki
中空アーチャー

I. Basic Information

» Name: Hattori Saya
» Titles: N/A, for now
» Age: 26
» Gender: Female
» Affiliation/Rank: Free mercenary/bounty hunter

» Appearance Written:

Saya is a tall, lanky female. Standing at about 6'0'' high, she can tower over most women and even men. Wearing armor makes her look a bit more imposing than she really is. The woman's hair is white and her skin is pale, somewhat sensitive to sunlight. Her eyes are silvery, and can reflect light in the dark. Her tongue is serpentine and forked, akin to that of a serpent, which makes her talk with a slight lisp.

The armor is a combination of plate and chainmail. Plate covers her chest and her calves, whereas the chainmail covers the sides, armpits, and the midsection, allowing for a greater ease of movement. The woman's legs are protected by high metal boots that go all the way up to the knees. Her sword is usually carried in the scabbard or on her shoulder, depending on how likely it is to be used.

The woman usually wears a road cloak and carries her belongings in a backpack, which is uncharacteristically colorful and with white kittens all over. It is usually hidden under the cloak. Beneath the armor there is a black bodyglove, which softens blunt stikes and keeps warmth. It can be worn separately from armor, though tends to look a bit indecent due to being, well, a bodyglove.

Saya always wears something around her neck, be it a scarf or a cloak. Underneath, there are several band-aids covering a spot on her neck. Without the clothes, her body looks wiry and agile, though slightly thin, even malnourished. There are several scars, the most notable ones being the one against her right row of ribs and over the left shoulder. She has a set of civilian clothes, which is comprised of dark blue jeans, cross runner shoes, and a shirt with a turtleneck and a purple broken heart on it. The clothes look worn, as if they were bought in a second-hand shop.

I. Personality Traits

» Personality:

On the outside, Saya comes across as a cool, aloof personality. Minding her own business, not bothering others, keeping to the road, not staying in one place for too long. Easy to contact, difficult to form long-term meaningful connections with. A desire to do good offset by egoistic tendencies, fears, and base lusts. That is what crawling underneath her pale shell.

Fear is probably the strongest emotion Saya feels, and she does feel it often. Fear of dying, fear of being overpowered, fear of being a monster, and fear of harming people who do not deserve it. All of that is being felt on a daily basis, and it is what keeps her running against the clock. It is what she argues against, every night, whether before sleep or in front of the mirror. Sometimes, the mirror answers, though not with what she wants to hear.

Determination is the second major part of Saya's being. She has a certain ideal self, which she tries to keep up with. While mistakingly calling it 'humanity', it is actually the image she invented for the sake of having a certain moral standard. The desire to act in kind is what drives her and prevents her from falling into despair or worse... surrendering. But when one always keeps powering through, ignoring one's true self, it is very easy to get lost, forever.

Apathy is what slowly consumes her soul. It is what Saya fears, and what her determination keeps at bay. But with every killed bandit, every unfortunate civilian, and every drained corpse, apathy gains ground. 'Why should you care about another one? There have been so many already.' - Apathy asks. And as time goes on, it is harder and harder to find an answer.

Lust is a force of nature. Sometimes it helps keep apathy at bay, sometimes determination has to keep it at bay. Comes in many forms. Lust for power, for control... Saya feels it strongly, especially when in combat. Another kind of lust, lust for another, comes later, usually before bedtime. Sometimes, the woman manages to suppress it. Other times, she fails, and allows her mind to draw forbidden images. Every time it does, surrendering becomes a bit easier.

Peace is a very rare state for Saya. But each time she obtains it is a cherished memory. A time and a place when all the parts of her are at peace, without trying to overwhelm one another. A mind empty of thoughts and emotions. A perfect mind. The end goal. It sounds very similar to apathy, and the line blurs. Is apathy peace? Or death?

I. Character History

» History

"Dear Diary.

I am writing this log in terms something should happen to me. Whether I would die in combat, from hunger, or succumb to my affliction, I wish this to be a reminder of who I used to be. To myself, or anyone else who might find it.

My name is Saya, of the Hattori family. We live in Sabaru, and hold many shops in there, promoting ourselves and our friends and forcing others out. It might be cruel, at times, but it is a way of life. Those beneath us would have done the same in our place.

I was born in a good family. My mother and father, Ujio and Manami, were not the most doting parents. But they did their duty to me and my sister Miyuki, so I have nothing to complain about. My sister was the most precious, cherished, and mischievous girl on earth. I miss her much, even though my neck hurts whenever I think of her.

Since childhood, we were groomed into overtaking and participating in our family business, should the time come. Miyuki was good with people and numbers, she was going to inherit the clan. I was not as smart, or as beautiful, or as eloquent. But I was strong, and I knew what needed to be done. So I was meant to be the enforcer. Fight for my family, take what is ours, protect our friends, vanquish our enemies. I was taught the way of the sword, and an ancient philosophy from days gone by.

I did not make many friends, when I grew up. Most of my acquaintances were boys from the lower castes, who I trained with, and beat up with my wooden sword. I liked them well enough, but never saw them as more than a bunch of giddy punching bags with a sense of humor. With my sister Miyuki though, things were... different. I was different. She was different. We were close. Closer than just two sisters, and closer than conventional morality would allow. It brings a blush to my face to remember it. And a great deal of pain.

It was not meant to last, and we both knew it. When she and I were 16, parents found her a suitor. A sharp-looking young man, with pitch-black hair and striking, silvery eyes. Impeccable manners, great wits, a social butterfly. So much he staggered even me, when I knew where my heart lied. I managed to resist his temptations, but my sister was head over heels for him. Now I know why.

With her occupied with the first months of marriage, I focused more on my own tasks. I was in charge of our own militia force, that kept the streets of Sabaru safe and our competitors out. Work helped. It kept me busy. It kept me from thinking about my sister. Though sometimes my mind circled back to her. Especially at night, when it's sheets and not armor touching your bare skin. It happens even now, from time to time.

It was my surprise to find Miyuki at my bedside one night, wearing nothing but her nightgown. Her eyes glowed brightly, and her scent was so alluring. Her warmth... I could not resist... I was putty in her hands, hers to do whatever she wanted to do with me. It was all like a blur, like many times before. But more... intense. But as it reached climax, I felt sharp pain in my neck. Miyuki... she bit me. Her fangs were much longer than they should have been.

I did not remember what happened after.

For three days, I've been out cold. Whenever my mind was coming back to me, I saw her face towering over me. Hers... and her husbands. They looked... different somehow. Their hair was white, their eyes glowing with that eerie light. My hair... it turned white too. They made me... drink something. Something red, but not wine. It was thicker, and had a metallic taste to it.

On the third day I realize what it was. Blood. My sister smiled so strangely when she forced me to drink it. And said that now I could be with them for all the eternity, as a Sueki.

I do not remember what happened next. I... ran? I fought? I ... do not know. But I fled the compound, frightened and disgusted with myself. Blood oozing from by neck. It was a primal fear. I still feel it, though less acutely. Or perhaps, I just got used to it. But back then, my trial was far from over. I had escaped the creatures that overtook us. But ... I could not escape my hunger. Soon I felt it, too. A strange hunger. No food, no drink could sate it. And it was starting to get worse. Five days after I fled, I was a shadow of myself. My muscles withered, my face turned wrinkly, I could barely walk, let alone fight. On the streets of Hiroshima, a young girl thought I was an old woman in trouble, and took my hand to help me out.

I ... could not help myself. She was my first ... victim. I drained her dry. It restored me... but also told me the price I had to pay for living. I was no longer human, but... a monster. I kept running. The thought of impaling myself on my blade came to me often back then. Still does. But I am a coward. I am not brave enough. So I had to survive, somehow. And live with what my sister did to me.

It could not have been her, no. That... thing must have turned her the same way she did me. And warped her love into a desire to make me into one of these monsters. As if the world does not have enough anyway. I hoped there would be a cure. But there was none I could find.

So, I chose to survive. I may have ran from Sabaru, but I still had my cunning, and my sword. I traveled between cities, doing jobs nobody else would. Taking the lives of those whom the society will not miss. Thugs, bandits, beggars, hobos... People... They're all people. But I want to live, so it is better them than me. I need to kill someone every three days, for... nourishment. Otherwise I become unstable and weak. Sometimes there's not enough bandits to go around. Then, I add to my shame.

I found employ in the strangest of places. From the local bounty offices to being a hired blade for local crime lords. So long it helped me find undesireables. I fought in many a gang war, I was shot, stabbed, sliced. I was reckless. I was hoping that maybe one of these blows would do to me what I can't do to myself. It did not happen. In fact... I think it made me... stronger. But I could not stay in one place for too long. Had to keep moving.

Now, my life is a beeline between points A, B, C, D, and how many other letters the alphabet has. If my life won't end at the tip of another person's blade, there are three things I must do. Find a cure, kill that thing, and rescue my sister from it.

At least... I hope she wants to be rescued...

I. Equipment

» Equipment:

- Old sword. Saya does not know much about the sword, except that it is really old. It is a european-styled longsword, shipped to Japan roughly 600 years ago and ending up in her family possession. It has a silvery sheen to it. It is very sharp, and seems to be extra capable of sundering outworldly creatures, such as demons, hollows, and, ironically, Sueki like herself.

- Armor. A combination of modern steel plate and chainmail. Rather heavy, but spreads the weight evenly along the body, lowering encumbrance. Chainmail can resist blades, plate can deflect small-caliber bullets.

- Gasmask. Protects the eyes, mouth, and nose from various hazards.

- Pepper-gas pellet. Upon being crushed in hand or smashed against the floor, releases a cloud of pepper gas that makes it choking to breathe and blinds a person who gets it in their eyes.

- First aid kit. Bandages, pain killers, syringes, scissors, rubber bands.

I. Natural Abilities & Skills

» Natural Abilities:

Feeding - Having survived for more than one year by feeding on humans, Saya's slowly becoming better and more efficient in doing so. Self-teaching and lots of practice allow her to recharge herself better than before and not tear the victim's throat inside out while doing so.

Kumopu - The strange changes that have taken place inside of her body have also slightly improved her ability to fight and wield a blade. She can outrun her former self at shorter distances and can deliver 4 blows a second instead of two.

I. Roleplay Sample

» Role Play Sample:

Thuck... Thuck... Thuck... Thuck...

The sounds of water clashing against the window glass from the outside. The fresh air coming through the ventilation ducts, to freshen up the air inside of a small, stuffy cafeteria. The scent of cheap fried potatoes mixed with whatever vegetables were still in the fridge, and a couple of scraps of meat. Strong scent of the cheapest vodka.

With the weather being this shitty, the tables remained unoccupied. Except for one seat, where a pale-haired woman with a sword on her back, sat. Her cloak hanging off of her back, dripping water on the floor. Her finger thumping impatiently against the wooden counter, while the fellow running the cafeteria cooked food for her. An obese man in a greasy shirt, untidy red mustache, and a bald head of hair. A foreigner, most likely. Then again, humans and other races were so mixed up these days nobody was truly at home anywhere... The woman watched him cook with big, tired eyes.

*GROWWWWWWL*

Her stomach demanded, earning a chuckle from the man, as he flipped the potatoes and vegetables in his old black frying pan, before expertly catching everything onto it again.

"Still hungry miss? You must have not eaten for good while! Ah-hah, this is the third meal I'm cooking for ya in a row!"

Saya did not reply to him, putting a hand over her stomach, head hanging off of her neck, as she looked down. She knew this was not the kind of food her stomach demanded, and she was trying to trick it by just throwing anything she had, down the gutter. It was a mistake coming to this quiet, rural settlement. Barely a few thousand people, nothing ever happened here. Everybody knew one another. Nobody causing trouble... There was no work here, it would not do. And yet... Her body demanded it. Like an ache from the core, pushing its roots up.

Once the roots reach the temples... it wouldn't matter.

Right now they were felt at the neck. Saya eyed the fat man as he worked, his thick, red, hairy neck. It was disgusting. And yet... it would do. The woman clenched her teeth, her forked tongue brushing against the fangs. She spoke, with a lisp:

"Lissssten... you have a family at home? Anyone waiting for you?"

The man chuckled, not turning his head to face her.

"Not really, miss. Parents have passed, I have been divorced for more than 15 years. My niece lives with me though, I'm taking care of her. She will go to third grade this year. Why do you ask?"

The woman let out a pained sigh, slamming her hand against the counter, and placing a few coins and crumpled bills on it.

"Never mind. I am leaving. Here isss your pay."

Briskly, she turned, and left the cantina, disappearing into the rain, leaving a very startled and surprised man looking at the door as it flung back and forth. Saya fled from the settlement, down a muddy road. Wind battering in her face.

No, not here, not now, not this time... The next city is a day's march from here... Maybe I'll hitchhike... Something...

The little childish backpack slapped against her back under the cloak as she walked. Today was the 3rd day.
