Erchanhardt

Artist: Wagner - Song: Lohengrinn Overture

This war was assuredly not the first time Erchanhardt had seen the world stained with blood. He had fought across the planet uncountable times, and yet it was this time that struck so differently than any before. This time, he did not fight for Germany, nor simply for the sake of learning. His fists were not his own, but a tool of the people now. He had so much to atone for, and atone he surely would.

He strode purposefully through the sun-beaten lands of Africa, and though his spiritual signature was condensed massively, it nevertheless made his being quite apparent to anyone who kept watch for such things. Of course, the Burgstaller had no ill intent today, far from it in fact. He had come to Vastime to speak directly with the king. He knew of the old ways, and knew that surely this king would follow them. He was a man of noble blood, and as such his right to speak with the king would assuredly be respected.

Upon approach to the capital of Vastime, Erchanhardt simply looked for what appeared to be the palace. It was naturally a rather ineffective method of contact, but he had not been here before, and modern approaches such as the internet (or even a phone call) were still not the first instinct he had when it came to problem solving. So, naturally, he just looked for whatever building seemed to be where the king would live. It had always served him well in these things, and would assuredly do so here. These were typically in the center of the city, yes? So that was the direction he went first.

KING OF VASTIME

DESMOND HAYDEN

A Meeting of Men [Open?] 6EdIfMt

One of the most amazing yet mundane tasks as The Iron King was dealing with petitioners.

You see, within Vastime every citizen had the right to petition the king. The process was often relatively simple, send word to the Ministry of Royal Affairs and show up to the palace within the capital. But the key factor of this was the wait list tended to be long, with only a lucky few actually able to get a walk in. But this right also applied to foreign aristocrats, should they be able to prove the validity of their blood. It is that key factor which brings them to the current situation The King found himself in.

It would not be hard for Erchenhardt for him to find what he wanted, and surely enough once he presented something of proof of who he was. The high nobility of the man along with Hayden himself motioning to allow the man into the Iron Hall was easy enough. It would be here that Erchenhardt would see the full glory of the man who the sitting king of this nation.

He sat upon a throne made of blackened iron, the only comfort provided to him was a sheepskin seat which was stuffed with some feathers dye'd black. It was no doubt an uncomfortable looking venture for any simple man. But the king himself seemed to sit with ease, his body ordained with his armor with a helmet resting on one of the arm rests. Emerald irises peer'd at the male with a majestic intensity, within his right hand was not a scepter but a sword. He was not a king of posh men, and comfortable civilians. He was a king of iron, a warrior-king who throne room and steely gaze reaffirmed that.

"Duke Königsberg, it is a surprise to see you in my court."

There was a baritone nature to his voice, bronze features holding fresh scars from his battle with Ravan. It appeared he was still recuperating, his most grievous wounds hidden behind steel and iron. But a jagged wound which ran along his nose and cheek, and another which seemed to be residing on his neck, told the story it needed to.

"You speak using noble privilege, Duke Königsberg. What have you to say to me?"

Erchanhardt

Artist: Wagner - Song: Lohengrinn Overture

"I thank you for acknowledging my peerage. Few would still do so in this day and age."

Erchanhardt smiled sadly at that, still not especially used to this era, even having lived in it for centuries. Perhaps he was simply stubborn, but at the same time he doubted that. This world was in a significant state of turmoil now, it was only right that he be displeased with the way of the world, that he long for a more comfortable time.

"I will not waste your time, your Majesty, so let us move right to the heart of the matter. With the war occurring as it has, I believe it is only a matter of time before Europe falls into a state of near total disrepair. That is something I cannot bear to see yet again. Therefore, I come for two reasons. The first is that I might offer my fists to you for this war, that you may apply them as you see fit. The second, however, is that my right as the last Duke of Prussia be observed. Those lands which fall under that purview, I ask return to me when peace comes."

It was rather plainly stated, but Erchanhardt was not one to beat around the bush. He found the direct approach was often the best, particularly when it came to things such as this. Indirect words would only muddle his intentions, and that would disrespect the king before him. Erchanhardt was many things, but improper was not one of them.

DESMOND HAYDEN

Now this was certainly interesting.

The man seemed to shift in his throne slightly, sitting up as he leaned on his blade now. The blackened steel seemed to exude a deathily aura, not one of killing or even murderous intent but .. simply death. It was almost pungent as he allowed his emerald gaze to fall upon the man. He offered his hands in war, and in return that Hayden not restrict his ability to acquire the lands under his purview. It was an interesting proposal, but naturally he had some questions.

"I must say first and foremost, that the kingdom thanks you for your offer. We shall require all those of such privileged birth and qualities to lead the charge."

The man would get from his throne with a grunt of some strain, beginning to descend from the stairs approaching the man. His hand still gripping the blade idly, before stopping ten paces from the man. His emerald eyes seemed to examine the male, looking for any level of deceit or something off about him. But once satisified he'd wave a hand as a holographic globe rose focused on Europe.

"Simply speak the proper name of your inheritance and it shall appear on the map, as a visual aide for myself."

Such was the benefits of their technology, if he spoke the name of any nation or empire throughout history the map would reshape the borders of his duchy to incorporate that lands. It would come to be revealed he spoke of the former Kaiser-reich as Hayden eyebrows raised at the largeness of it. He'd throw a glance to the duke, before tapping the pommel of his weapon thoughtfully.

"I see. Duke Königsberg,I believe the goal of men like us to lead the world, to ensure the prosperity and advancement of the common man. Do you agree?"

It was important to hear his next answer.

Erchanhardt

Artist: Wagner - Song: Lohengrinn Overture

Simply smiling at the king's response, Erchanhardt held his head high, obviously proud of the land of his birth. He did not seem to give even an ounce of hesitation as the scale of his claim was brought to Hayden's attention. And, of course, why should he have? There was a mutual understanding among nobles, certainly. That was the way of the world.

With that said... There was something about his wording that unsettled Erchanhardt. Perhaps it was the familiarity of those words, "the good of the common man." "Men like us." After a moment or two of silence, Erchanhardt shook his head, his form tense as he carefully considered the full weight of his words.

"No, I cannot agree. If our leadership is that which is desired by the people, then we shall provide it. But ultimately, they must choose their own paths independent of our decisions. Men like you and I cannot fully understand the lives of those everyday men and women in the current time. Perhaps our days long ago may give us a glimpse into their mentality, but no longer is that the case."

Erchanhardt spoke tersely, almost grave in his seriousness. He did not much care for the idea of simply leading the people along for their own good. He had seen before what that might do to them, what knowledge they might be deprived of. He would not support it again.

KING OF VASTIME

DESMOND HAYDEN

A Meeting of Men [Open?] 6EdIfMt

"Then we find ourselves differing not only in mind, but words."

There was a level of disappointment in the kings words, to hear such a thing from the other noble reminded him how different they viewed each other lots in life. Such was Hayden a common man raised to the status of being a noblemen, one which required him to hear the pleas of his fellow man. To offer them protection from forces which sought to bring them asunder. Bur for the moment he'd listen to what the man had to say, his removing from the pommel of his sword as he pressed his hands into the table.

"If it pleases you, perhaps I shall offer my own words."

He knew that the duke would not say for him not to, a privilege of their positions. As much as they where peers, Hayden stood first among them for the time being. It was one of those royal ignorances of which he could be alloted, to be used as he saw fit. But he would not abuse such power, instead he would swiftly speak.

"I was raised in a foreign land as a mere soldier, blessed with some skill in war. I used those skills to create this kingdom before us. I was lucky to.. have a father which knew the things I would need." He'd remark his eyes closing briefly, as if recalling distant memories. He felt old, despite his youth. "I cannot be idle when injustice remains within this world, where someone is not entitled to life, liberty, and happiness. Perhaps we disagree in how we should act, but we must agree on one thing; this plague which inhabits our lands must be removed."

Philosophy. Common ground. He offered it. They may disagree on the finer points of it, but within both of them laid the knowledge a demonic menace held their world by the throat. So as long as they could agree upon that, Hayden would be willing to allow some things go. No one was perfect, and with that Erchenhardt had done something interesting. He had challenged Hayden, alerting him to something which he hadn't seen.

"I shall accept your services in this war, on a simple condition. During, and after this war, you shall act as an advisor to me and my realm. You shall not swear fealty, but you shall provide me that service. In return, we shall work on your behalf to reacquire your lands and pay you a royal annunity; for a man should not work for free."

A small smile would come onto the kings face, as if he had foreseen something.

"You have proven to be wise, Duke. I am young, and often rash. I require more men like you."
