THE QUINCY TEMPLATE
I. Basic Information» Name:
Helle Armstrong» Titles:
Shadowfall; Sofia Montero» Physical Appearance Description:
Helle has long blonde hair which reaches to her shoulder blades that she usually wears in a modified ponytail held by a red headband. Down either side of her face is a lock of her hair forming bangs across her forehead. Sometimes a strand or two get displaced over her eyes. She has slanted eyes, full lips, and a thin face with a square jaw and high cheekbones. Her looks may make some think of her as having Asian genes somewhere, but she is European completely with fair skin that is slightly tanned. She has sky blue eyes that sometimes appear darker like the ocean or silver when the moon shines on them. Her nose is small but pointy nose. On her left cheek below her lips is a small black beauty mark.
Built like a true Armstrong, Helle has a strong body from years of working out since she was little. Though, her physique is not overly exaggerated. She is more on the lean side than the muscular side, but her muscles are taunt and tight from constant use and strengthening. Helle stands at a height of 5 feet and 10 inches. Though, heels make her seem at least 2 inches taller. Her bust is medium sized with a slightly buff hourglass shape due to her training. Her height seems mostly supported by her leg length having long slender legs that end around her thighs with a bit of a largeness but not anything too curvaceous. Her body is covered with minor scarring from fighting and accidents within her lab; the most notable being a thin line running down her right thigh.
In terms of clothing, Helle usually wears whatever she finds suitable for the occasion. In her workshop or whenever she is working, she usually wears little to keep from getting any clothing snagged or ripped while working. Yet, what she does wear is usually tight fitting for the same reason. Most of the time, this means she is usually in yoga shorts and a sports bra with protective gear on. When out and about, she wears whatever may look good preferring pants over shorts or skirts due to her long legs. Though, when she is nearing combat, she has the ability to change her clothing into a special built one piece blue skin tight suit that is designed with special modifications.» Physical Appearance Image:

II. Personality Traits» Personality:
Likes: Reading, Working out, Working on an invention, Daydreaming
Dislikes: Annoying people, Stagnation, Giving up
Helle’s main attribute is her stubbornness; a quality all of the Armstrong's share. This stubbornness is what keeps her moving despite how hard things may get. When an enemy knocks her down, she usually stands back up no matter the injury. When an experiment gets too difficult, she keeps at it over and over, even putting her health at risk just to make progress. This stubbornness makes her seem a bit too rough to approach for she's the one to tell a person how she feels despite how it may make others feel. Yeah. She enjoys joking around like many others, but when she is serious, she makes sure those around her know it and treat the situation as seriously as she does.
Though, this stubbornness does come with kinks. Helle knows she is far from being the strongest and works tirelessly to get better. She feels she can surpass anyone as long as she keeps at it. Nothing is impossible to climb: no person or mountain. That bravado that everything has a solution and she’s going to be the one who finds it makes people think of her as overestimating her ability somewhat, but she simply sees it as an unshakable will to continue on in difficult situations.
Of course, this chases away those who don’t have the same fire as her. Yet, she makes it her duty to protect her family, whether they be the Vandenreich or anyone else she’s gotten close to. She is kind and a reassuring hand to those who need and deserve it. She wouldn’t let any person who needs help simply go by without any however. Charity gives her a nice feeling in her chest, and she hopes by helping others she’ll inspire them to help others themselves.
However, she hates stagnation. She always feels like she could be working on something and really berates herself if she thinks she’s been in the same spot for too long. She also dislikes it when people around her stand around doing nothing. There’s always something to do.
Her do something personal comes with its faults though. For starters, her anger at situations can blind her and make her rather impatient, and her stubbornness is the biggest quirk of all her family. It is why they are normally killed at a young age. She isn’t as ready to die in battle as most, but she does feel like giving up is a sign of failure, and whenever she does, she simply starts working harder and harder until she surpasses the wall placed before her.
III. Character History» History
The Aurora Child
The year is 2399. It is an October Autumn day. Though, that simply means it is just a weaker version of Winter in the large Country. On this day, the 3rd of the month, a child is born. This child, however, was not conceived within a hospital or even in a home. It was a special event that only occurs only during this time of year in the Russian skies that originates over the Arctic and Antarctic area: The Aurora Borealis. However, this child’s birth came with complications.
Noah Armstrong and Amelia Armstrong, the two last remaining members of the Armstrong family along with their two sons, decided to visit Karelia Russia from their home estate in an undisclosed location in one of Russia’s many, barren, frozen lands. Amelia at this time is eight months pregnant with another child; a girl. The family had decided to escape from their duties to vacation and enjoy one another as the time nears for the newest addition of the family to appear. The doctors warned Noah that Amelia should spend her last month of pregnancy relaxed and far away from any of her Quincy duties. This caused some issues within the family due to the Armstrong’s nature, but begrudgingly, they all agreed to leave to an area where they could experience the Aurora Borealis in comfort.
The Armstrong family is a pure minor family among the Quincy ranks. Though, they are esteemed for their strong will and powerful sense of duty to the Quincy cause. This, however, has caused issues for the family. Despite its status as a minor family, the Armstrongs were also known for birthing some of the finest militant Quincy known to exist; warriors who fought until their last breath against any who opposed or went against the Quincy law. They were commanders, executioners, soldiers, assassins, butchers among their kind. This caused the Armstrong family to gain a high amount of wealth and prestige among their fellow brethren, for acquiring an Armstrong within a group meant one would acquire a capable individual for their needs. The main issue with having a family centered around fighting is the high fatality rate. Armstrongs were one of the last to die in a battle, but they were also the ones to never retreat from confrontation meaning they fought till their last breath. Such stubbornness on the battlefield meant that Armstrongs died quickly despite the carnage they wrought. And, after so long of this kind of lifestyle since the beginning of the Quincy, during the genocide and demon wars, there remains only one branch that Noah is the head of.
Noah Armstrong, himself, was born differently than the rest of his siblings with a knack for arts and crafts over battle. This actually caused him to be seen as a bit of an oddity among his peers who knew how battle hardened the Armstrongs actually are. This, luckily, is how he discovered his wife, Amelia Armstrong, during his time traveling the world on a sort of Art tour. Noah, with his skills for art became a famous artist with paintings depicting the Quincy struggle in his own way which coaxed Amelia due to her ingenious mind for engineering and creating works of art herself with her creations. There were other Armstrong’s at this time, but one by one, they fell due to one reason or another leaving Noah and Amelia the remaining Quincy with said name. Together, they had two boys, and, unfortunately, these two seemed more in line with the Armstrong way; both being aggressive children who dreamed of joining into the Vandenreich much to their mother’s dismay at the chance of their demise steadily increasing as their wants for training their skills grow.
Their vacation in Karelia was going pleasantly within the small wooden home they purchased. It snowed little, yet, decorated the ground and world around them in a winter wonderland esque style. The perfect quiet area to watch the Northern Lights in the sky, and that is what the family did. However, on one night, Noah and Amelia decided to go out alone, leaving the boys to their own devices within the home so they could enjoy the lights together and think about their future with their new child. The fact it is to be a girl was marvelous news for Amelia, for she would have another female within the house and maybe someone who shared Noah’s and her knack for imagination instead of violence. Yes. It was on this night that this child was born.
Up into the sky the couple’s eyes loomed as the marvelous display of green and blue lights splayed across what seemingly felt like the universe. That is when tragedy struck however. From the skies, Noah saw something moving speedily to their location. A chance of unlucky fate as he notes that this, in fact, was a meteorite that soared through the skies over their heads. How was such a marvelous event unlucky though? Strangely, this giant rock held a massive amount of electromagnetic energy within its body that leaked as it flew overhead, and with Amelia weakened by pregnancy, her body reacted to this influx of energy soaring by them rather negatively having her water break. Though, the child wasn’t due for another month.
This caused panic between the two as Amelia grew pale and deathly ill at that moment feeling something odd within her as the child stirred. That day ended with the child being born, but Amelia, weakened from that aura of that strange meteor passed away. However, the child seemed odd. She did not cry during her birth, and her skin was extraordinarily pale. Soon, doctors did arrive on the scene in astonishment that Noah was able to birth the child despite the unexpectancy of everything, but the man had trained in such to be able to be there for when Amelia did go into labor. Sadly, his skills could not save her.
The meteor, however, had flown off to who knows where, but there was discovered not far from their vacation home, a small meteorite within a tiny crater, and Noah took this meteorite to learn what had exactly occurred that day. And, as he did, he grew a bit distant from his family; especially his new daughter that continually reminded him of his wife’s death and fueled his desire to figure out what this meteor had done to her.
Helle Armstrong is the name of the newborn daughter. Helle was a healthy baby despite being born a month early weighing 7 pounds and 13 ounces. However, it was noted that she had a strange strength about her. Her Reiryoku was stronger than an infants should be. Noah knew that it had something to do with the meteor, and this was also one of the main reasons why he studied it; to learn why it killed his wife and gave his daughter extraordinary energy. Though, he knew that Helle’s strong energy was dangerous to her as an infant and took precautions to protect her.
From her infant days to 5 years of age, Helle was kept away from anything that may inspire her to take up arms as Quincy normally do. Noah kept her brother’s training away from her usually giving her lessons in arts and crafts while they trained outside. When other Quincy came by, she was left in her room. In fact, her birth was kept a secret from the outside world besides the trusted few who were there to check on her after her birth. Noah did not want his family to die out and knowing how The Armstrongs tended to perish in battle, he knew that one day, he may receive words of his two sons being killed. He couldn’t allow Helle to follow in those footsteps; especially not after her mother had died giving birth to her. This required him, however, to stunt her energy’s growth, for her abnormal reserves of it caused problems around the house. One incident where she seemingly exploded a section of the home by accident by pressing her hands against the wall and accidentally releasing her power. Her energy was unstable and hard to control. Something a child her age should not have and Noah feared it becoming too unstable for a child of her age to bear.
This is when Noah’s ingenuity and the work of his late wife came into play. Amelia was working on a type of regulator that even surpassed the Sanrei Glove in its ability to disperse reiatsu and disrupt a Quincy’s ability that would need far more intense training to successfully counter. It was near completion before her death, but it’s abilities so far were far adequate enough for a mere child. What made this device superior is the fact that it could be implemented into anything from a necklace to a simply button on one’s shirt. It being just a prototype meant it wasn’t ready though. It only had the capability of the Sanrei glove at the moment, but the fact that it could be used in many more shapes and many more ways already made it a success to Amelia, but for now, it is being used to keep Helle’s power restrained.
This, however, had side effects. Helle became a sickly girl due to having a device restraining her ability to gather Reishi and control her own. This caused her energy levels to be rather low at times weakening her immune system and caused physical extortion to tire her out more quickly than other kids her age. Noah knew this, but did not remove the device from her, for he feared how her powers would resurface after so long of having them restrained and limited. This is for the best he figured. His daughter will be safe from harm if he kept her the way she is.
Years went by with her staying inside, and her ability to even notice anything supernatural had long since faded away with the constant stagnation of her abilities. Though, at this time she had lost her spiritual sight, her body had begun to grow in strength physically. Still, the device was kept on her to keep her powers from ever resurging. Helle’s father had lost his mind somewhat with wanting to keep his daughter safe and away from harm. When Helle was about seven, both her older brothers were killed by a demon after they had joined with the Vandereich for training. They were out on a simple mission for training expecting it to be a routine Hollow attack, but were caught off guard when a powerful demon had decided to read its ugly head that day. Helle at the time didn’t understand what had actually happened, but all she knew then was that her father wanted her to think of only her arts and crafts. It became quiet around the home, and for years, she knew nothing but her home and father becoming a true shut in clueless of the dangerous world outside her home’s walls. That was until her father didn’t return home from one of her expeditions.
Noah would usually disappear for a bit. He did so when Helle was born leaving for up to a few hours a day, but as the young girl had grown, Noah stayed out longer and longer. When her two brothers had been killed, her father stayed away for days at times, but this particular time was the strangest. Helle’s father had been gone for a whole week and Helle was struck with a strange feeling on the last day of that week. She knew not of the outside world, but she just felt that she had to go out and find her father.
She had traveled out only for a few minutes before discovering him lying still beside the meteorite that was placed on some strange pedestal. Helle at her age didn’t know what had happened and ran to her father, seeing that he was bleeding a lot and felt cold when she touched him. That is when she heard a roar not so far off. A massive beast that resembled a bat in shape and look suddenly swooped down from the sky looking to grab hold of her with its talons, but it had missed taking her father up instead. Helle was struck with horror as this occurred finding her tiny frame running into the meteor pressing her body into it as this massive beast landed once more before her; it’s jaws bloodied as it smacked its lips. She had read books and new that her father had been eaten.
She felt fear deep inside, but she also felt anger that her father had been killed and left to rot in the snow like bait. That was it. This creature had used this man as bait. It somehow knew he had a family. Noah did always wear his ring even after his wife had passed so long ago. Helle could do nothing against this monster that slowly came closer and closer as time passed. Though, she felt the want to kill and avenge her father. Despite being a frail little girl, she felt a nasty hatred build within her at that moment as if something deep inside started to bubble like a concealed pot of hot water boiling. She grabbed the meteorite feeling it's strange aura calling to her. That is when the meteorite pulsed in his grasp, and Helle felt something within herself pop; the device that contained her energy somehow breaking before a massive explosion filled the area.
Helle: The Quincy
Helle had lost everything, but she had kept her life that day. Such an explosion obviously would have brought attention to the area with such high energy levels, and Quincy soon arrived to check it out discovering an unconscious young girl and the meteor. Unfortunately, the meteor had lost all energy readings it used to have, but Helle was brimming with Reiryoku inside her. So much, that her body was running a fever from the intensity of it all within such a young body. She was taken to The City of Light where she was watched over until her fever went away.
Once it went away though, she was immediately surrounded by many Quincy asking questions about the origins of her large Reiryoku reserves and strong Reiatsu which, of course, she could not answer. Helle suffered from great depression however finding herself uninspired for living itself. Her family is gone, and she is all alone; the last Armstrong. She did not wish to train to control her abilities or become strong. Her mind was only on her loneliness. That was until she was given a book from her home by one of the nurses watching over her. After the death of her family, it was decided that Helle’s home would be searched but ultimately left alone. Another reason was to also move Helle’s things to her new residence in the city. What Helle was given was her mother’s journal; a woman she’s never actually met beyond seeing pictures. She spent days simply reading through it learning of her thoughts and secrets and of her inventions she planned on creating and made. In short, it was rather inspirational to Helle. At the end of the book, Helle noticed the last thing written down was about her; the newborn child that had yet to come. She learned that her mother had wanted her to grow strong but smart as well. Be a warrior and an inventor. It broke Helle’s heart, but it also inspired her. She suddenly had an urge to create and learn more of her own abilities to help her create even further. Though, that meant she had to train and finally dive into her Quincy bloodline.
Helle began her training at 10 years of age, but with her extraordinary strength, she found difficulty controlling herself. She had many teachers around her that tried to help, but she was quite inept at wielding her Reiryoku and manipulating Reishi. Though, she had great determination to see it done no matter how long it takes. She began meditating everyday focusing her mind on controlling the flow of her own Reiryoku first. If she can control her surplus of energy, then, things will become just that much easier, so that is how she spent her days. She meditated, trained, and read books about engineering and art. She wanted to be a warrior and a creator like her parents.
It took her a whole year of constant training before it seemed she had gained control over her own energy. She had discovered that, she is able to gather Reishi into technology powering them beyond their normal capabilities. It never seemed to affect anything living however. Though, when she began to power the object, it seemed to grow unstable causing said object to explode violently. With some control over this ability, she had come across another problem. She had the inability to create a Quincy Bow. Throughout her training, she had tried multiple times to recreate the bow that other Quincies had created, but everytime, she failed. It seemed she had an issue with manipulating Reishi and keeping it stable to form her bow. It worked similar to her inability to power an object without it exploding. She soon started to become quite annoyed with her issue, but nonetheless, she continued forward training day and day to refine her Reishi manipulation skills. For someone at the age of only 11, Helle showed remarkable determination. This verified her surname, Armstrong, for this stubbornness was a key quality of theirs.
Unfortunately, it did not pay off. No matter how hard she trained, she simply could not form a bow, and thus, she soon figured she had no aptitude for being a Quincy. If one could not form a bow, even if mediocre, how could one ever hope to fight alongside their brethren against the many threats of the world. Helle became a bit saddened by such, but she quickly rebounded as she decided to focus her attention on other things: engineering. Her mother was an engineer before her untimely death. Helle decided that if she could not do what everyone else does, then she will simply do something else. She had already planned on learning the craft while becoming stronger. Now, she began focusing on creating and exploring the depths of her creativity hoping to make her mother proud by inventing something great if she could not grow in power.
A New Power
Fours years have past. Helle is now at the age of fifteen. She had spent the last four years studying religiously about engineering of all types while also studying Reishi Manipulation for a better understanding of how to best create equipment usable by other Quincies. None, however, would allow a child to tinker with advanced technology, so she had worked under a member of the Daten as a disciple learning from him much about Quincy technology. Despite the day and age, that Quincy still used such old methods to train new Quincy. Helle was simply told that what isn’t broken doesn’t need to be fixed. In her mind, however, all things can be improved. The Quincy are no different. If she couldn’t progress herself, she would help everyone else progress.
That is the reason she borrowed a Seele Schneider to look it over for her own little study. She did not let anyone know what she was doing to keep anyone from stopping her. That was when she discovered something amazing about herself. She was busy looking over the sword powered by Reishi studying how it vibrates and wondering if she could increase its output power through modifiers in the handle. Though, she grew frustrated with her failed attempts to create something capable of increasing the output of the simple weapon. So frustrated, she threw everything off her desk onto the floor accidentally opening her mother’s journal that she always kept by herself. Coincidentally, it fell open onto the page that held the design for the Reishi limiting device that was used on her as a kid.
This is when Helle had her breakthrough. After that moment, she began experimenting with said designs discovering ways to not only limit Reishi flow but also to increase and modify it. Ingenuity gave birth to a new weapon. Through many tests on herself and other Quincy items, Helle advanced her mother’s technology and created a weapon specifically for herself; a rifle. By combining a Quincy Cross with Reishi controlling technology, she birthed this weapon to handle her inability to control the amount of Reishi she collects. Instead of creating a Quincy Bow the way everyone else did, she created something entirely new just for herself. With this, she began training once more. The main reason she didn’t use the technology to counteract her inability to collect Reishi was so she could naturally gain such defined control over the energy in the world without assistance. Despite having a weapon designed to work around her inability, it isn’t a true solution to her problem. She needed to train herself even further, push past her limitations.
However, this truly began her Quincy training. Helle needed to advance her power further after so long of being behind everyone else. To push herself and advanced her ability to manipulate Reishi to at least try and combat her problem, she asked for a Sanrei Glove. A week with her inability to control Reishi adequately under more strain may be exactly what she needs to control it. It began horribly. At the first application of her tech and trying to power it, she felt nauseous. In fact, she felt worse than nauseous. To describe the feeling; it felt as if someone were holding her up with a noose around her neck over the ocean restricting her ability to breath before dropping her into the endless sea telling her to breath and hold her breath at the same time while the water churned in her stomach, blinding her sight, and blocked out all noise. Then, she was suddenly pulled up given one second to gasp before being dropped again in sickening repetition that played on one’s motion sickness out at sea. She could barely stand afterwards from just her fifth attempt, but in the end, she did faint.
That was a horrific experience. Reishi became even more impossible to direct with the glove on her. It wasn’t this bad when she was a child, but she did fall sick a lot, and it was a modified device until her body had gotten used to having her energy restrained. Now with so much within her, she can adequately feel it kick back against her, but she would not stop. Everyday for that week, she would go out and continue trying struggling significantly and usually passing out. It usually takes a week for most quincy to unlock their stronger abilities while using the glove, but at the end of the week Helle had gained nothing. Yet, she persisted. Everyday that whole month, she continued to keep at it. Despite how slow it was, she continued and noticed the slow progress being made, but it was being made, and that was all that mattered to her. This meant she could reach that next level. Even if it took a whole year, she could eventually reach it, and so, she continued battering her own body over and over attempting to fire at ease while wearing the glove. Months went by of this before one day, she simply no longer felt tired when firing. Sure, they took a bit of effort, but she was able to fire many nonstop before feeling anything weigh her body down.
With that, she finally took off her glove and felt something different about her. The air around her sparked for a moment as she concentrated on making an arrow. The ground underneath her feet seemed to rumble as her gaze glowed. Her Reiryoku starting to jump from her body like lighting into the air and ground around her as her Reiatsu flared. Blue glowing circuits began to appear on the ground. Her Reiryoku was spreading from her like a nervous system into her surroundings. A field of translucent energy formed around her. With a flick of her wrist, she accidentally caused the ground under her to break apart and launch itself away. She had unlocked some strange power around herself that she instantly recognized as an electromagnetic field.
Helle noticed that touching technology opened her eyes to many things, she could see the life of the machine, understand how it worked, what made it tick. But, she also discovered her ability to influence the world around her. She could not affect living things, but she had the ability to control machines through manipulating the electromagnetic field around them. Not only that, but much like her ability to boost an objects battery, she gained the ability to mentally control said machinery much like an extension of her body through its electromagnetic field conjoining with her own.
Though, tragedy had struck at random. Helle was only 14 when the demons invaded the realm causing havoc across the globe. She had wanted to help the world; fight back these monsters, but she was much too weak to be of use besides a grunt level soldier. Realizing this, she had receded into herself dedicating her time to learning more about her abilities. She didn’t bother working to the bone to solve the mystery behind her inadequacy with Reishi. Instead, she worked hard on other things strengthening her natural ability and physical attributes. This included days of hard power lifting and running with many hours of manipulating electronics and metal.
At the age of seventeen, she had grown stronger, but she still had the same issue as before. Despite gaining such an amazing power, she still could not truly manipulate Reishi the way she wished finding it difficult to perform simple Quincy tasks. She could not even use Blut accurately due to the risks of harming herself. A true set back on her desires, but it was around this time that another person appeared in her life, a woman by the name Sofia Montero.
Helle instantly thought of Sofia as an individual to be respected. She may have even developed a soft crush as well. Sofia showed strength beyond anyone else; strength that she had acquired through her own ability. Though, as Helle had to work harder than everyone else for it, Sofia was blessed with having a natural talent. And at that point, a one sided rivalry was born. Helle had to surpass this woman. She just had to. Watching how Sofia cared about the growth of the Vandenreich inspired her to care just a bit more herself, but is also showed her that one must grow in personal strength before being able to help anyone, and so, Helle dreamed of joining the Jagdarmee. Such a position will get her one step closer to actually realizing her dream of being strong enough to stand beside Sofia as a worthy adversary despite her weaknesses and imperfections.
If only that was how things turned out. After months and years, Helle noticed that as she grew stronger, so did Sofia. As she hungered more for strength, so did Sofia. It came to a point that the younger woman had surpassed even the leader of the group, and Helle had known then that reaching that point would be the greatest mountain she’d have to climb, but she was determined to, and one day she’ll reach the top. But, one day, Sofia had done something that Helle could not have predicted. She left without a word. This had confused Helle. The strongest Quincy out of them all leaving? That’s treason isn’t it? This made no sense. Why would Sofia do such a thing? Helle had to learn why. And, so, she decided to track down the woman to learn why she left leaving everything behind in belief she would one day return with or without Sofia and with a better understanding of the situation. If only she knew of where it would bring her, and how it would change her life for better or worse.
