Kuchiki Keiko

Immediate panic set in when Keiko awoke. So many different thoughts came to mind as things to consider--where was she, what happened, what time is it? Something the girl always kept to was her schedule, and she found a good amount of pride in her ability of time management. An unfamiliar setting through all of that out of whack. A few moments went by while she recollected herself and her memories, and once she fully came to, Keiko's panic remained.

Is the Auber-sama's place? Damn it, damn it all, I shouldn't have lost myself!

Keiko quickly lifted herself from the bed and dashed around to find either Ulv herself or the exit to the house.

Ulv was found in the kitchen, cooking a light lunch in an apron and seemingly nothing else. Because,why not? She loved to tease people about that and when they were people who had the kind of feelings Keiko did for Ulv, that just made it all the better.

"Morning Keiko~ You sort of passed out earlier, I expect it was from the strain of having so many responsibilities and learning your lessons on top of that. So I decided to cook you a healthy lunch~" Ulv told her with a smile. Basically naked as she was, Ulv's muscles were on clear display. The toned arms she was talking about but also heavyset shoulders and powerful back muscles that gently flexed as she picked up the pan and served the food up on two plates.

"Good Food is the foundation of power, after all"

Kuchiki Keiko

The shock of meeting one of her idols and the physical contact were the prime motivators for leaving Keiko aghast. In terms of showing skin, she wasn't as bothered by it. Her family was fairly traditionalist, and open onsens were very revealing. The girl's own clothes were pretty revealing already, and that was for actual day to day interaction. So when Keiko found Ulv in the kitchen in nothing but an apron, while some excitement was there to once again see the object of her admiration, she was more confused about the nudity. Actually, with a quick thought, she just assumed it to be a part of Ulv's preferences and character. Who was Keiko to make any judgements about that.

"Auber-sama, I genuinely appreciate the meal, and I will definitely eat it, but first I have to know how much time has passed since we left the academy. It's bad enough if I miss my home lessons, but I definitely can't afford to not show up to my internship!"

Her panic definitely conveyed itself through the tone of her voice, hence her only brief time spent admiring the woman's musculature. There were still priorities that needed to be attended.

"Don't worry about that. Honestly, I told you that you need to take a break from all that or you are going to be the break" Ulv would have the apron wrap around her and turn into the servant girl garb again, to show that she understood the seriousness of the situation, both in general and to Keiko. Ulv was just all fun, after all. She knew what work was.

"I sent a butterfly to Abalia, she is going to sort out the home lessons and the internship. You are working yourself too hard and that always ends badly. Now sit down. There is food to eat, and a fable to listen to" Ulv had a gentle tone, but at the same time seemed to have such command of the situation that arguing with her felt impossible even before the attempt was made. A strange sort of authority that so clashed with how she was in general.

Kuchiki Keiko

"Wha? I won't break. I'm a Kuchiki."

Keiko's cheeks inflated with air in protest. It may have looked a bit comical, but she was pretty serious. Both about her worries over her ruined schedule, and also about not breaking by virtue of being a Kuchiki. That said, Ulv changing clothes confused her, and even moreso the petition to the Vice Captain Commander. The girl couldn't really refute that. If Vice Captain Kyoraku said it was fine, no-one could really argue otherwise. But, for Ulv to go to that extent for her--she felt a bit bad. As a result, Keiko finally quieted down, though her blood-pressure was still a bit high, and meekly followed instructions.

"I-I see. Well then, thank you, Auber-sama. Itadakimasu."

She sat down and obediently listened for the story. If it wasn't for the tension in her from earlier, Keiko would normally be very excited to hear a fable; fantastical stories were one of her favourite pastimes.

"Last person I heard say 'I am a Kuchiki' nearly killed himself and several others and is now walking around with a highly exaggerated sense of listlessness. Your family is no shield against failure, nor a guarantee of invincibility in any degree. You are a person like any other, and you need to take care of yourself accordingly" Ulv told Keiko, sitting down and slowly eating the lunch as she spoke the fable.

"There was once a contest between two woodsmen. They were to see who could cut the most logs in the space of five hours. To begin with, they struck a perfectly mirrored rythem, both splitting logs with two blows and moving on with grace. Thwack. Thwack. Thwack. And then, the second woodsman stopped. The first woodsman could not see what he was doing, but did not take the time to really try. After all, the fool of his opponent had just stopped in the middle of the contest. He took advantage of this and powered onwards, splitting log after log.

However, eventually his axe began to wear down from constant use. What took two blows began to take four blows. And then it began to take eight blows. Understandably, this slowed him down and exhausted him, but he didn't bother too much about this. For the second woodsman was still stopping every five logs. What a fool, he thought.

Come the fourth hour, however, the first woodsman was growing so weary that splitting the log in front of him became a daunting task. It was like hitting a rock with a wooden stick. Panting and sweating heavily, he looked up from his focus to see how his opponent was doing. And to his horror, he saw the second woodsman splitting logs with two swings, splitting logs with two swings, and then pausing.

The competition ended an hour later, and the split logs were counted. The first Woodsman had eighty five logs split. A fine number, it was met with applause and admiration. Clearly he was a master woodsman. But there was a lead weight in his heart as he looked to his opponent, and waited for the verdict. Sure enough, when his logs were counted, they came to one hundred and thirty. A clear victory.

Dismayed and disturbed by the ending, he went over to the Second Woodsman and asked 'you kept pausing during the competition. And yet you beat me. What were you doing in those moments when you paused?' he asked. The Second Woodsman gave a smile, and said..."

Ulv would then pause at the ending, and look to Keiko.

"What do you think he said?"

"Wait, that's not fair, we agreed he's an Unabara."

Aside from this initial comment, Keiko obediently listened to Ulv's lecture and story, taking in bites of the food all the while. She focused in on the story with great interest at first, but halfway through the girl started to realise that there might be some moral to this story, and when Ulv asked her a question, she was certain of it.

"Uhh... What'd he say? The Second Woodsman said 'I paused to switch out my axe with a new, sharper axe'?"

Ulv would grin broadly and give Keiko a light clap as she voiced the correct answer. Technically, at least.
"It is 'I was sharpening my axe' but the key feature is still there. You can charge ahead in life, giving no thought to your axe, but everything will go much smoother and you will get much further if you care for it. I know from experience that Shin'o academy lessons are a solid day of activity if you don't ditch any of the four. And if your home lessons are half of what Shin'o is, then you are pushing yourself to the brink with those two alone.

Add an internship to that, and...when do you sleep?"

Kuchiki Keiko

Blood rushed to Keiko's head and a warmth filled her body. She got it right! These sorts of questions were always invigorating to answer, like a small puzzle or riddle, and getting them right was nothing short of a massive dopamine rush. Her grin wouldn't leave her face, only widening whenever she put another bite into her mouth.

"Heeheee, well, you don't get the right answer to these riddles by spending time sleeping. Besides, I always sleep at home, and I don't like spending too much time at home when it's night-time, I prefer to be out and about. I get sleep, there's just more important things for me to be doing in the mean-time, and I can't slow down now. I'll work as hard as the First Woodsman, and sharpen my mind and polish my skills like the Second Swordsman!"

She was a stubborn one when it came to Ulv's lessons. Was it a Kuchiki thing, to be like this? She didn't want Keiko to end up like Takehiko had, but if she pushed any further it might seem to aggressive. So she just nodded and accepted her defeat in this matter.

"I don't want to see my number one fan get hurt. Physically hurt is one thing, there is plenty of magic to help you recover from that easily enough. But mentally hurt...the stress you are putting on yourself is not something that can be easily waved off...where else am I going to get a woman so happy to be in my presence she fainted when I touched her?"
