The New Captain's Summons - Page 2 Empty Re: The New Captain's Summons

Honey's gaze remained stuck on the green haired captain as he walked over to the medic's supplies, her bright red eyes widening slightly as she watched him prick himself and bleed into a vial. Her nose twitched, golden tail visibly bristling as she caught a whiff. She almost wanted to puke; whatever was pooling into that vial, it reeked of death. But.. He wasn't crow food, how could he smell like that? Though, if she thought about it, she thought she smelled something weird as she had woken up and come out. Why... Why did he smell like that?

She shook her head to clear her thoughts, calming down as her bristled hairs slowly relaxed. That wasn't the point, they had something to do today. No need to yelp over soiled fur. Her gaze silently floated over to the courtyard he would point towards, brows raised as her currently small tail wagged against her small body. Frankly, she was excited for training, even if the strange man was cryptic. Though, soon he and her fellow squad mates would flash step into the yard, Honey stumbling for a second as she reorientated herself, and would then open and jump out of the window, growing in size on her way down, until she was back to her glorious 9 feet.

Though, as her feet hit the ground, her ears and nose twitched to the sounds of newcomers. First was Ulv, a woman she had met before but didn't get to know too much about, then she smelled a unique scent on the wind, feeling a sense of determination really add to her excitement. She wasnt certain of who the scent belonged to, but she knew it was nobody to worry. Finally another woman would appear by Ulv's side, who carried an interesting scent and sound herself, but it wasn't something for Honey to worry about.

She smelled a strange scent of fear and... perhaps others? Off of Durza, noticing his body tense as he was taken by reminiscing. Her gaze slowly looked to the barrel of red liquid, and back to Durza, but noticed that the Captain never gave a real 'OK' to starting. But... He didn't say to go on 'start', did he? The whole scenario made Honey think of the hunt, there was no start until you started.

Honey would slowly creep over to the barrel, dipping her pinky tips in, not seeming to be aware of anything around her, as she walked away from the barrel, to the back of the white haired male that screamed distracted to her. No intention or interest was detectable, until suddenly..
The dirt shifted where her feet used to be, the hybrid girl had suddenly lunged for him, however she didn't go high, she went low. Going high gave a better shot for him to touch her, bending down to strike her would likely be more inconvenient, and thus, she would go to reach for one of his legs, and if successful, wordlessly strike it with an outstretched marked pinky.

If he were to move or otherwise interrupt her strike upon his leg, Honey would redirect her momentum into her legs, slamming her hand into the dirt to give him a swift kick if within reach.

The New Captain's Summons - Page 2 Empty Re: The New Captain's Summons

[Then]

Only slowly her consciousness resurfaced. One might think someone that needed to exhaust herself to stop thinking would have trouble sleeping. But even when she hadn't trained, she always fell into a deep, black slumber. There weren't any dreams, just empty and cold blackness. And when she awakened there was this voice, whispering ever so softly in her mind. Today it was just the same as always and again she could not make out these words. They would fade anyway. She knew she just had to wake up and then she could push the voice so far back she wouldn't be able to hear it anymore.

Then she was finally awake. Her room was small and spartan. The first light of day filtered in through the half closed curtains and hit her face. She remained on her hard futon for a few seconds longer, then she gut up. Today she wanted to apply for one of the divisions of the Gotei. She wasn't sure where she would fit in. More than just her guts said her it was the combat division, the fourth. She felt like a fighter. She knew she was a fighter. However it heavily bothered her that she was so far behind than most of her former classmates. Would a Captain accept her as a member of his or her squad when she wasn't even able to release her sword? This uncertainty frustrated her deeply and tainted the otherwise beautiful morning. However, she was absolutely certain that she wouldn't be accepted if she didn't apply.

Half an hour later she was ready and slid her sword into her obi before she left her small room.

[Now]

The summon from the new captain of the 4th came as a bit of a surprise. What a coincidence that exactly on this day there would be a summon to members and applicants.

When she arrived at the yard where the exercises were held, there were some others already there. She filed in at the back. No one had noticed her, so she watched and listened quietly.

Tests? Now, that would prove to be interesting. She was fairly certain, that the others were pretty strong.
She listened carefully when the captain explained the first challenge. Trying to marke one another. On first glimpse it looked like a childish game, but it wasn't so different from some of the exercises she did before. With dexterity and a little bit of luck she maybe would be able to achieve something. Maybe not. In any case, she wouldn't back down.

She followed the other participants to the next courtyard and dipped her pinkys into the liquid, right after a strange creature, that was clearly no ordinary shinigami, had done the same. Then she positioned herself to one corner of the yard, so she could see everyone, but not too far into it, so she would still be able to move. Then she waited for someone else to make a move against her.

Honorable Vizard

Laskt Matiche

Laskt would listen as the green-haired captain spoke, narrowing his eyes to slits as the man almost casually threatened the well-being of one of his closest, any indeed only, friends. He would have no doubt forced himself to do something foolish to stick up for Takehiko had the strange man not immediately moved on. However, even as Shinryu ran through the standard boot-camp spiel, Laskt was distracted by the arrival by several ridiculously powerful or important individuals. Ulv, Former Captain Commander Ibiki Suika, Vice Captain Commander Abalia, the list went on and on. Laskt turned as Captain Shinryu finished the first part of his speech, bowing at the waist in turn to each of them in turn. The Vizard started as he saw Chikai no Uragiru leaning against the barracks in the background, his figurine indistinct and hazy, "None of zem care you know. You should not either mon ami, zey are trash compared to what you could become." The Hollow said lazily, greed and ambition pooling in his yellow eyes.

The ancient Shinigami visibly shuddered, shoving down his inner darkness into the depths of his psyche. The delusion shattered, his Hollow gone.

For now.

The Vizard crossed his arms as Shinryu explained the activity at hand, holding himself like the physical action could keep him anchored in the here and now. "You are fine. You are good. You can keep him restrained for a little while longer." He muttered under his breath like a mantra as the captain finished. He crossed to the barrel, taking a moment to examine his opponents. The Vizard had met Durza before, and strangely the kid didn't seem much stronger then the last time they had met. The most recent arrival seemed to be at a similar level, although neither were what worried him. The other individual looked to be slightly animalistic, and was significantly more powerful, almost as strong as the Hollow that he dared not think about. The knight would need to be careful, even if, to his surprise, he seemed to be the second strongest present.

Laskt removed his gloves and stuffed them in an interior pocket. He went to dip his fingers in the liquid, but paused for a second. The strange captain didn't say he had to physically touch his opponents, just mark them. Laskt dumped his digits deeply in the sludge, making sure they were deeply soaked with the solution.

And then the test exploded into motion.

The animal Shinigami immediately went after Durza, as the young one was occupied with his stretches. "Smart idea, you should do zat as well. Pick off ze other weak one so she won't be a distraction." Chikai murmured, but Laskt's mind had already shifted into fight-or-flight mode. And he intended to fight.

In a heartbeat, Laskt likewise blurred into motion, flash-stepping after the animal Shinigami at his maximum possible speed. His arm flickered upward in an arc, sending a spray of the liquid at his foe, while he stayed at a safe distance.

With fluid grace Durza continued to flow from stretch to stretch, feeling his body loosen up with each different one. As the stretches continued a smile would grace the young mans image as he simply enjoyed the moment. It had been a while since he'd gotten active, and said he could easily tell as such upon a closer look at the others in his squad. While his routine continued Durza's excellent eyes picked up on everything different about Laskt. The man seemed more on edge, but definitely had gotten stronger since they had last seen one another. On the other hand, the hybrid was something that intrigued the young man. In part because he'd yet to encounter a hybrid outside of the Vizard race, and one other because he could tell she had the edge physically for sure.

As the flowing movements of Durza's form continued his gaze came across two unexpected guests. 'Isn't that Ibiki Suika?' The young man thought to himself, surprised at the previous Captain Commanders appearance for a simple spar. Such a presence would be hard to ignore.. As would that of the Vice-Captain Commander.. 'So many big-wigs showing up for this? Is something going on?' Now he was really getting curious. Was there really a reason for all these big-wigs to show up for something like a squad spar? Or was it something more? In the end Durza wouldn't have much time to consider his thoughts as another felt it was time to initiate things.

Despite the appearance of being distracted with his stretches sharp eyes watched as Honey, followed by Laskt & an unknown, added the resin to their fingers. As the trio did so Durza grew intrigued at Laskt's application of the dye.. Excellent eyes picked up on the more liberal amount of the dye on the man's hands vs his own or the others. An excellent idea indeed. As was Honey's movement to position herself where she had. If it weren't for his attentiveness & keen eyes Durza was sure he'd have missed on at least one of these particular details.

It took but a moment for things to explode into action. The instant Honey made her move would also be the same one in which Laskt made his. Crimson eyes picked out both of his allies movements before the sounds of them reached Durza's ears. Smiling to himself, excited for what was to come, the young man sprang into action himself.

Shifting his weight onto his right leg the young man swiftly pulled the left out of Honey's reach, immediately propelling himself backwards off of the right in order to evade the hybrid's follow up. Even still Durza wasn't done. Observant eyes picked up Laskt's surprisingly quick movements, now Durza was sure the man had grown stronger since they'd last met, before having to roll out of the way of several droplets of dye. "Hehe. Wish I'd thought of that Laskt!"

With a laugh the young man would propel himself out of his quick roll, utilizing sheer natural speed to close the distance between himself and Laskt as quickly as possible. As far as he knew right now his acquaintance was the strongest of the group, and thus needed to be taken out first. As such he aimed to do so as quickly as possible. While currently unarmed it did not mean he couldn't apply various techniques to his limbs. And he was about to show Laskt just that.

The moment the distance between the two would close the young man would utilize the principals of Hitotsume: Nadegiri, a zanjutsu technique, in an unarmed strike. In a blur of motion his right arm would lash out finger tips poised to strike, as if a blade itself, in order to strike a blow across the other mans torso. Using the speed and rotation from the first strike he'd the spin into a vicious roundhouse kick intended for Laskt's rib-cage. If either blow were blocked or evaded the younger shinigami would quickly and smoothly slide-step his way to a neutral distance, crimson orbs locked on Laskt with the brief & occasional glance towards the other two.

Honey's ear flicked, expecting the possibility of Durza moving out of the way, though she heard the sound of movement behind her, similar to a flick, prompting her to quickly flip out of the way as pink dye splattered on the dirt. Her feet struck the ground, but just because she dodged didn't mean she stopped. Ceasing movement would be ridiculous in this kind of setting. Her nose twitched, knowing only three distinct smells were closest to her. Being so much bigger than the other participants would be a hindrance, and thus she would shrink, her body now resembling a ten year old, her poncho and pants being slightly baggy, but she was used to moving with such hindrances that would typically trip other people up.

She kept note of the girl at the sidelines, she hadn't seemed to wish to jump in yet; Right now these two were her biggest threats, so she sought to take at least one of them out, her chance only being further presented with them focusing their efforts on each other, now. She'd have to get one of them to slow down.

She ran towards them, making sure her pinkies were outstretched, using her natural hunter's ability to silence her footsteps and breath, soon jumping and using both momentum and strength to race a small foot at Laskt.

Don't hit the head. Don't hit vitals.

She was extremely careful to not strike anywhere that would bring significant damage, and if she were successful, Laskt would get a strike on the upper arm, however, her tiny size did not shrink her strength by any means. This kick would both hurt, and send the man flying across the field if unprepared. If successful in taking his balance, she'd race for him once more, red eyes wide as she stared intensely at his movements.

From one moment to the next everyone sprang into action. They were fast, very fast. As she watched the strange, small shinigami, she seemed to change. Physically change. And she became smaller. Then there was a blonde man, tall and muscular, like herself, but even a bit more of everything. And then a really young looking blue haired man. All three were engaged to one another in this test.
The young one and the small one -she never learned any of their names- relied heavily on speed. It would be extremely difficult to land a hit there. The big guy seemed to be hellbent on winning. He hadn't just dipped his pinkies and used the excess fluid to try and spray it on his contestants. Fascinating. She wished she had thought of that.
She watched them for a heartbeat. Then she decided to get into the action herself.

She used a quick but short flashstep to close the distance between her and the trio. Then she took a quick gliding step forward and pushed her hands out. She didn't wait to see if it had worked, if she had hit anyone just right and left a mark. Instantly she spun to the side with a tai sabaki. It was her intention to get her body out of the paths of any counterattack. If it would work she would flashstep away to a safe distance where she would have the opportunity to look for another opening. Aside from the danger so close to three seemingly vastly superior opponents there was one brief moment when she would offer her back to the others. Only that she didn't have much choice. A tai sabaki, a whole-body movement, was the only move she could make to use her momentum for an evasion. But it was a spinning-step which, if she couldn't take her opponent with her, would present her back in that small moment before she could bring some distance between herself and the others.

PREPARE TO ENTER THE VIZARD'S POST

Laskt allowed a small smile to creep across his face. At least Durza didn’t intend to allow himself to be caught this early. The man easily dodged the hybrid’s ambush with an ease that surprised the Vizard, stepping cleanly out of the way while setting himself up for a fluid counter. “Not bad”, Laskt murmured to himself, even as he approached the encounter at high speeds.

Unfortunately for his plan, but warriors managed to cleanly dodge out of the way of his opening sally. “Just a simple trick mon ami." He called out to the Shingami, even as the knight’s face twisted into a frown. He had hoped to take out at least one of the two warriors with the trick, but it seemed it just wouldn’t be that easy. Worse, the man immediately turned his back on the hybrid, charging headlong at Laskt.

The reluctant Vizard smiled thinly as Durza approached, making a novel use of his swordsmanship by applying the techniques he had drilled to his limbs. Even as the man’s hand blurred towards his chest at high speeds, Laskt would respond in kind. Despite his obvious preference for the blade, Laskt would be a poor study indeed if he didn’t manage to absorb any hand-to-hand knowledge in his nigh on eight centuries with the Gotei. The Vizard would sway backwards a hair, allowing Durza’s flattened hand to miss his shirt by mere centimeters.

Even while doing this, Laskt’s hazel eyes noted both the telegraphed signs of an oncoming kick, as well the newcomer approaching from the side. She was attempting to surprise them, but Laskt was not only observant, but also was quite a bit faster than she was. With a grunt, Laskt took the kick to his side, using his momentum and Durza’s to attempt to grab onto his foot and swing him bodily into the approaching Shinigami woman, hopefully sending them both tumbling and one of them marked. If this was successful, he would also attempt to dart his pinky down to the foot he took hold of, attempting to dab him on the ankle before tumbling to the ground.

The Vizard winced as he felt the throbbing pain erupt in his chest but paid it no more than a moment’s notice. He had endured far worse beatings than Durza’s recently, and it would take far more than a simple round-house kick to jar him. Even as he recovered, the hybrid suddenly appeared, swinging a brutal axe kick down at his right arm. Laskt’s eyes widened and muttered a curse, shoving at the ground and rolling with all possible, barely managing to get out of the way. Cracks spread on the ground where the woman’s heel had impacted the earth, testifying to the raw force the knight had barely managed to dodge. Laskt was sent flying, the shock wave hurtling him into the wall of a nearby building.

Laskt gritted his teeth as he felt the impact wrench at his newly healed bones, but made no visible sign of pain. He tore himself free from the wall, shakily getting to his feet and assuming a fightining stance. “Come.” He said simply, narrowing his eyes at the hybrid in particular.

Careful eyes scanned the dynamic interactions that were occurring in front of him, scanning in both amusement and astute analysis. From what he could observe, the most proficient in pure combat skill was also the one with the most pronounced strength, speed, reach, just to name a few things. They all introduced little bits of dynamic techniques and interesting strategies. He noticed some were using swordsmanship type methodologies to their strategies as well. To be expected to fall back on their roots. However, swordsmanship and hand to hand combat were not mutually inclusive to one another. There would be holes in the movements. They also took time to speak to each other and were for the most part, being quite sportsmanlike. How unfortunate, they were clearly not understanding that there were more to this than just training. It couldn't be helped: There were no real stakes. Of course, that could easily be remedied. Shin took a moment to flash step away into his office.

Shinryu-baka, do you really need to do this to them? Shin took a second to contemplate it, then grinned. As interesting as seeing this being a technique display, Shin knew the best way to see their real prowess was to put some pressure on them. Shin would shortly return, holding an hourglass. "The first one to be marked, loses. In addition." Shin would then flip the hourglass and place it on the ground, it's own action now becoming something to take note of. "If this hourglass runs out and there is more than one person that hasn't been marked, all of those individuals lose. Losing results in one of two penalties. A permanent handicap for the remainder of the exercises or immediate expulsion from the 4th division. If you're a tryout, don't worry, I'll think of something equally as severe." And with this, Shin would simply smirk. The sands of the hourglass were already flowing as he spoke and, it wasn't that large of an hourglass. Truth be told, unless you were an expert on interpreting hourglasses, you couldn't truly discern the time allotted. Just that the situation had changed. How they would adapt to these changes would be quite interesting.

The second Honey landed the kick, she let Laskt go flying, not pursuing after him. She needed take one of these two out of the equation immediately. Her gauging of her opponents was over, now she was intent on hardballing it, especially with their captain now proposing a time limit. She ducked any oncoming attacks from the male or the new female, dipping to the ground and unearthing some dirt into her fingers, and suddenly, if he wasn't paying attention or didn't react quickly enough, Honey would throw a healthy amount of dirt right into his eyes. If successful in blinding her opponent, she'd give him a firm, carefully aimed kick towards the solar plexus, not quite as hard as Laskt's intense kick, but hard enough to definitely knock the wind out of him.

A mere half second after reaction to Durza, she'd dip and look towards the female, her gaze blazing with a predator's stare, definitely scary to the weaker willed. Her hair and tail were firm, bristled by her, as if the girl weren't to move out of the way fast enough, she would give the girl a sweeping kick, firmly bringing her to the ground. And if she were to make it to the ground, Honey would take it upon herself to pin one of the girl's legs against her body, using a sufficient amount of weight to keep her still along with standing partially on her arms to prevent her from moving them to surprise her, a pinky finger outstretched to then mark her if she were successful in her movements.

Despite her rather fierce appearance, Honey was having a damn lotta fun.

ULV AUBER| WHITE MASK BUDDHA

To restrain the urge of marking art out of this new Captain's entrails, Ulv looked about at the other people. Ibiki was nostalgic, and comforting. Ulv's most powerful and most famous power came from her, so it was no surprise that she would feel a connection to her that went much deeper than just words. And then more people, which was always good. One in particular made her smile, and she floated over to the woman and gave her a nod.

"Good morning, Queen Hayden" She then paused for a second and frowned gently. "Gods that feels weird to refer to anyone but him as Hayden...And on the topic of weird, how is marriage to the man? I can imagine it quite an adventure even for someone like you" Ulv commented, decidedly not looking at the hourglass. The hourglass who's sand was falling slower than it should, slower than gravity would insist upon. Why, was a question few would be able to ask due to the subtle nature of the interference, and even fewer could answer for the same reason.

'Come on! Nobody would notice, we could just pull out his spleen and free everyone from this!' Hvit exclaimed from inside Ulv's soul.
'Ibiki and Abalia are here. They are two of the worst people to try pull a Captain's spleen out around. Please restrain yourself'
