Blood Kuchiki

Takehiko Kuchiki
おだ たつや

He'd recovered fine and had been surprised by his promotion. Bejing still echoed in his thoughts as he lingered. He decided to request an audience with the Vice-Captain Commander. She was well known for her high intellect and generally had a good personality. The Shihoin Clan head even spoke highly of her. He had a myriad of questions on his mind. Everything seemed so strange these days. Doing paperwork and making sure his Captain was up to date. Takehiko had always been a workaholic, but it was because he was so bad at things. He often trained until his life was in danger just to make the grade. That was the nature of his life in a nutshell. He didn't have the same story of brillance or semi-brillance other nobles did. It could be said he destroyed the majority of the zombies. Even though he tanked the fall of the great wall. It bothered him not being able to perform his medical duties. Not being able to plug the hole and stop it from happening. It may have been an enemy country, but even enemies deserve the same treatment as allies from a Medic. That was his belief so as he knocked on her door.

He took two steps back and waited for her. Prepared to bow his head going through his mind. What did you say to someone when you didn't get it? So what if your combative strength was good. Smarter people were in his squad Momo being a prime example. She had large amounts of experience so did his fellow Kuchiki. It left him puzzled and with questions on his tongue. He didn't doubt command or believe they were wrong, did he? It was more he didn't think he earned it. In hindsight all he'd done successfully got the message off. That Bejing needed help from the Gotei. That was his last act managing to signal them before collapsing from injuries. All in all, it was a failure as the designated medic. He'd not been able to render treatment for anyone. He needed medical treatment was what it came down too. He didn't train lately as much as he'd done previously. He had earned respect from his zanpakuto.

Part of the reason he trained less was that it was needed for the paperwork. His Captain had a habit of not doing it quickly. While the Kuchiki before he was VC. Didn't seem to do either leading to a load. On top of his medical duties which were large. Including studying among other things, now a guy sat at the Captain level. Who simply for lack of better word didn't want to do his job. So it was here before the Vice-Captain Commander, he could finally ask why had he been promoted?

Abalia Kyoraku-Hayden

Naturally, before any meeting Abalia took the time to look into whoever had asked to speak with her. It wasn't just a matter of security, but a matter of basic common sense. As far as she was concerned, it would be outright foolish of her not to know all that she reasonably could about someone, particularly given her position.

What she had found about this particular young man did not bode well, however. Still, she would not attribute any ill will toward him. She would naturally listen to whatever it was that he had to say, and address it as was necessary. He had called this meeting, after all. It was not her place to simply inundate him with her analysis.

As the knock came on her door, she simply readied her papers for what he presumed would be extensive notetaking. Truth be told, she did not often need to look back on notes, as she found she remembered nearly everything that she needed to know. But writing things down helped with memorization, she knew, and so she would continue with it.

"Come in, Vice Captain Kuchiki."

Blood Kuchiki

Takehiko Kuchiki
おだ たつや

He came in offering a bow to her as he then closed the door. He didn't speak until he seated himself before her. Takehiko had a troublesome bloodline and past to speak of. The Unabara who was Tsubasa's brother married into the Kuchiki Clan. Leaving Takehiko with a burden that he could never clean. What the Unabara clan had done was something he couldn't fix. No amount of blood or sacrifice would change it. Takehiko sat down his eyes looked at her. His expression was one of some confusion. "I, came to ask something..but as I'm sure you've likely done background checks on me...before it happened." He said softly pausing as he reflected on it. "I didn't succeed in Bejing, I failed to save a friend or the wall that was there. As a medical personnel I got injured to a point of being unable to help any wounded. " He saw the failures clearly as he reflected on them. Why did he move from his position? Couldn't he have done more in a non-combat situation?

"Why make me a Vice Captain, my uncle's a prisoner who committed atrocities that I cannot fix..even with thousands of years." He said remembering keenly his uncle slashing his throat. The scar he still wore beneath his scarf. "I'm grateful to even be allowed within the Gotei given my heritage..but I still don't understand what I should do as a Vice Captain..I don't know how to lead people. Or even what being a leader means..There were smarter people in our Division like Miss Momo Hinamori. She's a skilled and very well-liked Shinigami. Without any..relatives in jail.." Someone much better then him existed in that Division. His skills with Kido were like a drop in a bucket. Momo was akin to a waterfall of talent and skills. Things he didn't have as he was still learning everything. Takehiko was just green around the gills no matter how you sliced it. He was hoping for some wisdom, he wasn't whining. Nor complaining about the promotion or trying to come across as such.

Takehiko only wanted what was best for the people around him. He had trouble seeing himself as good for anyone. He felt like the Kuchiki name just having it caused trouble. Byakuya treating him as a nephew despite his connection to that fiend.

Requested Guidance FfUhy9b

Abalia Kyoraku-Hayden

Abalia listened very carefully to Takehiko's words, and studied the boy as he spoke. He was rather apparently unsure of himself, presumably lacking in any confidence toward his own decisions. He spoke lowly of himself, and upon completion of his initial point, Abalia simply gazed back at the boy with a rather plain stare.

"I have indeed read your files, and I find it interesting that you reference your failure in Beijing. I do not take issue with your failing in a dangerous operation. You are not alone in that regard. Frankly, the whole ordeal was incredibly poorly planned. I have already dealt with that issue."

Her frown grew just a small bit, then as she steepled her fingers. She had far more to say, and the whole room's atmosphere seemed to become a good deal heavier. There was no spiritual pressure being exerted, for Abalia had very little. It was simply the sheer force of her will, the reminder that she carried with her an ironclad ability to lead, and to judge.

"What is more pressing than your failure in Beijing, or your heritage, is the fact that you are self-admittedly an individual whose qualifications are suspect. Your Captain is the one who chose you for the position of Vice Captain. I have read your record from Shin'o Academy, and I have seen that your grades were nothing short of abysmal. I think it is no secret that you were allowed to graduate only because of your family name. Were it my division, I would not have even considered you for a position as a general member.

"Yet, you do not so much as mention your Kuchiki lineage, only that of the Unabara. You have come to me with reason upon reason why you should not be a Vice Captain, why others would be more qualified than you, yet you do not list what is the self-evident reason that you are nevertheless in this position. Are you ignorant of it? Or do you simply refuse to admit it? That you live in a position of immense privilege, that your numerous failures have been given far less scrutiny than others would have received in the same position?"

Despite being over halfway into pregnancy, there was not even a single ounce of maternal instinct or warmth in her voice, or her gaze. Only the cold, objective words of the Vice Captain Commander. Abalia's gaze then became hard as steel, her voice practically echoing through Takehiko's very being, despite not speaking any more loudly than before. She was simply no longer holding back her presence, nor the weight of the degree to which she was judging this boy. If he had come to her for her opinion, then she would give it.

"For all of the self-pity you espouse to me, you fear the idea of being truly held accountable. You bury yourself in self-loathing to avoid needing to genuinely confront your failings. There is nothing to compel you to accept the position of Vice Captain if you believe you do not deserve it. Yet you accepted it regardless. Tell me why."

Blood Kuchiki

Takehiko Kuchiki
おだ たつや

Takehiko's expression became sad as he heard about Shino Academy. He was indeed a failure with poor grades. His scores were just outright terrible. "I can't deny that I benefited from being a Kuchiki. When I believe I shouldn't have, on many occasions I have benefited from it. Perhaps this one is no different. " Takehiko didn't act smug or try to whine about anything more. His voice became more collected and calm. Takehiko slowly unraveled his scarf revealing the extent of an injury. Some people coughed or almost threw up seeing it. He doubted it would phase her any. His digits ran across it as he thought about it. Why he accepted the position. "You are right, I loathe many things about myself..being born to a clan that killed my mother and put a taint on the Kuchiki Clan's reputation. I couldn't kill him despite trying my hardest only to be taken away with some book of his failings." He said remarking as it had wounded his pride. Constant failure had made his hands tighten around his scarf he wore.

"It would have been fine had the Kuchiki ignored me and left me by the road. I could accept that fact, but my uncle Byakuya Kuchiki decided against it. He took a chance on me..so I will strive even if it kills me to repay that debt." His eyes of azure burned with resolve in them. Takehiko had one single thing in his life. His uncle reached out that hand when he was at his lowest. The worst student in the academy by no means a brilliant star. His aunt was average which was better than him. "I took that position when the Captain offered it, for two reasons. The first is because if I can lift even a small amount of shame off the Kuchiki and my uncle I will. Takehiko sat pausing for a moment as he considered it. There was a mark of shame that he felt he inflicted on them. "The second, is because..my mom did everything she could. She protected me when I was younger and the demons came to execute her. And my father for things that helped...I don't seek revenge against demons or those who harbor them...Revenged is too jagged a path for me to walk...But..I'm alive and even if I disagree and see better candidates. I...must honor her..in some way."

He said softly thinking about it as he began covering his injury around his neck. "I want to help however I can..even if it's just as the person who fixes people when they get hurt. : He smiled a bit finally as his eyes began to get some realization. Maybe it wasn't about why, but more about the Captain making a statement or taking a chance? "I guess I just realized..a third reason..I've got to make sure the Captain's gamble on me isn't wasted.." He said smiling to himself now realizing just how foolish he'd been. Takehiko's eyes looked up as he could only see himself as a fool. Perhaps that is what she would see as well. Just a foolish kid who didn't even do well. Someone who scraped by on his name alone. That was fine by him in all honesty.

"If you'd like I could return and retake my Shino Academy Tests. I'm not sure how much better my scores would be in truth. But if I fail I could accept being removed from the Gotei entirely if it would please you, ma'am."

Abalia Kyoraku-Hayden

"Do you believe it honors the Kuchiki to accept a position for which you are not prepared? Or, for that matter, your Captain? One's failings always reflect on those above them, on those who have chosen them for the task. I think it is important you keep that in mind, before you invite all the more shame onto them."

Despite the bluntness of her reply, Abalia did not hate the boy's answer. There were better ones he could have given, but she would not have expected any of them from him. It would have been unfair of her to do so, in fact. It did, however, strike her that the boy's answer reinforced a trend she had already noticed; Byakuya Kuchiki was certainly a great deal more soft-hearted than he had once been.

"I believe it would do you well if you did just that, Vice Captain. Even disregarding the simple fact that it reflects poorly on you and your division, if you wish to help others, then the lessons the Academy would impart will prove necessary. If you fail your courses, retake them until you pass with flying colors. Do not resign yourself to removal from the Gotei. I do not recall such defeatism to be the Kuchiki way."

Though she had not changed her actual tone of voice, the atmosphere in the room had lightened at least a touch. There was potential in the boy, if buried deeply beneath a combination of factors both within and outside his control. If he was going to make his best effort to improve, then it would be cruel of her not to support that endeavor in whatever manner was most effective.

"And, as you seem quite attached to the lineage of your father's family, I feel it important to note that your name is, by all Gotei record, Takehiko Kuchiki. The only taint that your parentage imparts on you is the burden you allow it to impart. One's family is not defined by blood alone."

She was wise, far beyond the wisdom he had or even held. It went beyond common intelligence she read him and the room. Better then he could and even manipulated it well. She brought the room lighter from her actions and words. To honor his Captain he needed to return. To prove to them he'd improved even if a bit. He didn't have a solution to his problems. Not by a long shot as many things remained to be fixed. He could go take the exams and study with all his vigor. He'd gotten permission from her to right a wrong. To try and undo a failure of the previous time. Takehiko paused for a moment before speaking. "If you'd permit me, one question that I've posed to Master Shihoin as well. " He was trying to find an answer to this. One that made sense and maybe it came down to him. The Head of the Shihoin's answers spoke of wisdom and experience. But thus far, she had proven wise beyond anything he'd seen. "What are nobles, what makes you or I different from others? " He said asking the question with a follow up to it.

"I may not have seen much of the world, but I think we are all the same beyond a name. We all work hard towards something important to us. I don't claim to understand it, but that thus far has been my take away." He said softly as his eyes of azure regarded her. The inner voice of Akuma was still yet. He'd managed to prevent his involvement here and in other places. So far Ruin's help was enough to hold him. But she couldn't hold him back forever either. He'd need to resolve that before the other. Somethings had to change before he ventured. Straining himself made Akuma come faster and harder. Like a rabid dog seeking a meal. It wasn't bad with Ruin keeping it back. She restrained it when he lowered his guard. Soon though an answer would need to be sought. He couldn't best Akuma alone not with what laid on the line. He waited for her answer offering her a polite bow. He didn't intend to stay long with her as he had a place to go.

The question he had to ask himself now, was bowing going to just piss Ulv off? Should he go to her for advice on how to handle it? Restraining took everything Ruin had in her. If not for her he'd of been consumed ages ago. In Bejing, his zanpakuto stepped in. He'd not resolved anything and when Akuma came to him. Offering help he took it like a stupid little lamb. It angered him to no end. His foolish anger as though a child kicking around. Was there an answer to the question at hand? That was the part that puzzled him in his core. Only one solution remained available to him. He'd have to return to Ulv Auber and beg her forgiveness for every stupid thing. The Vice-Captain Commander's Wisdom, someday he'd like to share a cup of tea with her. If he didn't die from his next destination that was.
