Blood Kuchiki

Takehiko Kuchiki
おだ たつや

Takehiko had gotten his mission from the Captain-Commander a while ago. He'd researched every possible cause. Even going outside his expertise in considering different things. His emotions may have come back from treating Keiko. But at this point, the young Kuchiki medic had three thoughts. First was that sleep seemed like something he did. He brought all the raw materials inside his room working closer to Keiko. Blood samples were closest here though he had plenty from her injuries. His eyes likely looked like he'd not slept in days. That was because Takehiko put the family before anything else. Personal rest wasn't as important as ensuring Keiko's health. He had written more documents on the subject of her then most. Finding conclusive evidence of something. A zanpakuto doing it was unlikely due to well her not getting that far. But could it be that something infecting her akin to a hollow? Now that was possible by his mark among other things. Takehiko stood up from his desk finally yawning as he sensed sunlight.

He felt like a cave dweller at this point for how long he was at it. He'd not gone to see Keiko herself yet. He wanted to make sure he was sure. Before bothering her and it wasn't anything else. Ruling out every possibility but the one. That was important as he found a stoic nature rubbing off on him. Walking out he itched the back of his hair. Keiko Kuchiki certainly livened things up here with her presence. Takehiko's missions had been canceled to settle this matter. His Captain had also thankfully let him work. The man had a propensity for not letting him bask in paperwork. The training was going well when he got to do it. But outside of the obvious, he spent time working on fields. Takehiko had certainly improved his skills since he was younger. Though he couldn't help but ponder the outcome of it all. What would come from this going forward? Takehiko didn't have access to his Bankai yet. His uncle forbids that thing from even conversation. He needed to get to it, but for now, his skills needed sharpening.

Zanjutsu and Hoho, his Kido skills were exceptionally already. But he lacked in terms of his use in the blade. And his steps while above-average needed work. He could perform the step his uncle used on occasion. Swordsmanship was the key going forward. He'd practiced for more kendo at the academy these days. Studying until his hands were bleeding. He needed to improve his skills drastically. To protect his family the Kuchiki. That was his goal going forward to defend them. From anyone who ventured or rose a hand to Soul Society. His job was to uphold the law with everything. That was the lesson his uncle imparted to him. Act according to what made you get promoted. Takehiko had changed how he carried himself as a Vice-Captain. Attempting to grow more into the role his Division chose him for. It was something he managed as a designated healer. Though there were struggles along the way. He'd felt as though he had gotten better standing in his doorway.

The noise at home was greater than normal, perhaps a guest or someone had arrived.

Rukia Kuchiki

Having done her best to check on her niece's well-being, Rukia was more than a bit disheartened to find herself now having to do much the same for her nephew. She understood that Takehiko had been at the forefront of Keiko's recovery, given what she had heard about his personal meeting with the Captain Commander, and the amount of time he had spent around the samples and medical data he'd taken. While Rukia more than respected his dedication, she also didn't like to see someone his age pushed to this degree. She understood more than most just how damning it could be to push yourself without asking for help, and how hard it might be to ask.

So, with that in mind, she considered a way that would hopefully not hurt the young man's pride. Knocking on the door to his room, Rukia had prepared a combination of nutrition-heavy food and a few obscure medical records of Keiko's. In truth, she assumed that he already had them, but she felt it would help make the whole visit seem less like she was simply doting on him. After all, that was not her intention.

"Takehiko, may I enter? It's Rukia. I have a few things I thought might be helpful for you."

Takehiko Kuchiki
おだ たつや

Takehiko stretched from his desk looking around. A photograph of his mother and father rested by candles. Lit in memory for those who fell, around his room were stacks of paper. Takehiko had medical records going back to the birth of Keiko. He'd researched every aspect of her life now. Though young he pushed himself fully into committing to helping her. He heard a familiar voice call, that of his aunt Rukia. Truth be told a year from today Takehiko was broken. His eyes looked at his parent's photos. As he recalled Rukia was the one who with uncle collected him. That spell she used on him to keep from joining the lost. That was the nature of it all down to the core. "Yes, yes, of course, Aunt Rukia please come in." When she entered she'd find his room filled in a weird system. Food within the room eaten and cleaned up after. For a hermit, he remained very clean despite not leaving. Spending all this energy and time on Keiko's well being.

How many people knew what time of year it was? The Maid who ran the house as though a military camp had been by five times this week. He understood her intent but didn't push into it far. Takehiko didn't mind people reaching for him. He just didn't see himself any closer. Not to healing what was done or taking a step forward. How did the last of a family respond to things? Takehiko didn't consider himself a horse for breeding. He was something small yet who'd not found his way. That was the only thing true, the schools grading him after his parent's death. That was harsh as it took him so long to recover. Although now he was trusted with this case. Captain-Commander Abalia put faith in his skills. So he had to make sure she got the results. That he brought results to her from any amount of effort. He studied hard at the academy and pushed. Despite his Captain's reminders to take it easy. That overworking himself wouldn't help anyone. Even his Captain was aware, that Takehiko had lost recently. This month alone should have been kept off the list.

But as he walked over opening the door. Takehiko revealed his room to his aunt. He was a neat freak and organized things heavily. He'd not eaten today as of yet. Having put food off due to personal feelings. He was sad and just not hungry in general. Having worked on Keiko's case exclusively for this time. Having put aside some of his other endeavors. Takehiko's eyes looked at his aunt with a gray color. They'd been blue last time she saw him, due to an incident. Both eyes had turned to a blackish grey color. Changing the very appearance of the young man, his emotions recently had been restored. Though he still felt some of them were distant.

Rukia Kuchiki

The cleanliness of the room, at least, was reassuring to Rukia. It meant that he wasn't completely forgoing the basics, but she didn't want to just assume that meant he was doing perfectly fine as well. Holding the bag she'd brought up for her nephew, Rukia entered the room and, after a brief look around, looked up into Takehiko's eyes. They didn't look right, and while that certainly sparked concern for her, she wouldn't push him, not all at once.

"Have you eaten today? I know you're putting in your best efforts to help Keiko, but you should take care of yourself, too. If you push yourself too far, you won't be able to help her at your best."

Rukia wasn't one to give him a stern talking to about his well-being, but she didn't want to see him work himself into exhaustion, either. If nobody else would check on him, and she suspected they hadn't, then she at least would. Stress, especially taken on alone, wasn't good for a young man.

Takehiko's eyes were tired looking as he settled into his chair. He'd eaten and drank, of course, to stay going. Keiko's situation he had conclusions on it in his mind. But nothing concrete that he had proof of. Takehiko's other concern was his medical skills. He'd failed to subdue her pain quickly and made her suffer. That was unacceptable to him as a doctor. "Yeah, I've been eating and drinking to keep going. It bothers me that our medical techniques failed to work on her. The Captain Commander was concerned also." Takehiko said as he looked at his paperwork and medicine tools. He'd never seen someone reject Shinten at Keiko's energy level. That was entirely new to him, he'd seen it work on people who've had Shikai. It worked on even him as a means to knock him out. To that was problematic in its ways. Revisiting Kido was perhaps the answer to his troubles. But the where and the why eluded him. Even if she was with infection of a hollow. It shouldn't have been able to reject the medicine.

Not so strongly, it's why his academy studies had shifted. Sciences and things of his intellectual pursuits. But something had troubled him and he asked many people. Someday he'd ask the returning Captain Unohana as well. "Aunt Rukia, can I ask you something?" He waited for her permission as he closed the book on his desk. "What does it mean to be a Captain? " He didn't understand it as power alone anymore. It had to be something else, a quality that they had. That made them suitable leaders for the Gotei. Captain Commander Abalia didn't have overwhelming power, but her intellect was vast. So what did it mean to be a Captain, he'd studied past Captains in the academy. Learning everything they allowed students to learn. But in the end, the question lingered in his mind.
