HIME TATSUMIYA

Assessment(Hime/Liana) 6EdIfMt

Ever since her trial release from prison, Hime had set out to conduct herself in a way that was most conducive to Abalia's goals. Promising that her beloved sibling would be under her undivided attention, she had earned the loyalty of the graceful woman from that moment on. In addition, it was also a way of truly redeeming herself, her way of fighting for a noble cause.

Hime had always questioned that concept - redemption. Was one truly redeemable? It was a thought that had always dominated her mind ever since the beginning of her creation. In any case, ruminating on philosophical thought isn't her primary objective.

For on this day, Abalia had prepared Hime to meet with Liana, to assess her and evaluate the woman. Abalia was promoted to the position of Captain-Commander recently; her aim was to assess the captains and observe them, to gauge where their loyalties lied and how disciplined they were to follow through with orders.

From the reports she was reading, Liana had been away for six months, conducting matters within the Lux Orior organization. It didn't seem to be anything suspicious but due diligence was necessary nonetheless.

Making her way towards Liana's office, she softly knocked on the door and awaited her presence.

LIANA UNOHANA

Liana's hums to a recent Japanese City-Pop tune were interrupted by a knock on the door. Today was more of a relaxed day, there wasn't as much to do and a most of her scheduled was cleared up by late cancels. The only work she had to do for today was, well, left-over paperwork from her return to Soul Society. Even then, she caught up on most of it. As a result, the woman was actually just about to leave, ready to do a quick inspection to oversee her division and continue assessing how things were done since she's come back.

Since she was about to leave anyways, Liana walked up to open the door personally, and she was mildly surprised to see who was at the door. Mildly, since it felt like this meeting would've been an inevitability. Liana caught wind of the ex-convict now working very close and personally with the newly installed Captain-Commander--a relationship that seemed awfully questionable to outside eyes, but not one that seemed appropriately questioned in broad light. Nevertheless, Liana was a polite woman with grace and propriety.

"Ah, Tatsumiya-san. How might I help you?"

HIME TATSUMIYA

Assessment(Hime/Liana) 6EdIfMt

When Liana appeared at the door, Hime was temporarily enthralled by how polite and welcoming she was. Of course, she hardly expected she would've reacted in any extreme fashion - but still, polite manners were always welcomed. Her demeanor eased any anxious emotions the princess of death may have felt towards the captain. It seemed as if she was prepared to leave, so Hime didn't feel the guilt of interrupting another person during their work. Gazing towards her, Hime gracefully bowed before the woman, with poise and composure that came naturally to the woman.

"It is a pleasure to meet you face-to-face, Captain Liana. From the reports, your reputation proceeds you. If it is not too much to ask, I have been ordered by Abalia to assess each captain and where their mentalities lie - to observe and gain a better understanding of them, if you will. As it turns out, yours was the first name at the top of the list."

LIANA UNOHANA

"My, have you checked to see if that list wasn't upside down? Quite odd for me to be first with my name."

It might've sounded contentious, but Liana's light smile and squinted eyes assured it was all in good fun and jokes. The woman then gestured to further into the Division grounds with her hand and exited her office, closing the door behind her.

"I don't mind at all. Quite the opposite, I'm excited to show the Captain Commander the progress I've made with the division since I've been back. I was just about to go on to insect and assess my subordinates myself. If you'd like, I'd love to have you come."

Presuming Hime had agreed, Liana went on with the woman by her side. Along the walk, they'd be met with colourful scenery. The division grounds were covered in uniformly planted flora, from sakura trees and trees bearing actual fruit, to decorative flowers and rose bushes. This greenery naturally attracted animals, and unlike most division grounds which had the hustle of many shinigami running about to complete their work, you could actually hear the animals in the 2nd Division. There was certainly a high noise level, but Hime would surely notice that when people talked along the halls while moving from point A to B, their talking levels were more moderated. The footsteps of their travel went with purpose, and as a whole the division gave a light-hearted aura of healing while remaining disciplined and focused. Such were the efforts of Liana Unohana in training and mentoring her division members.

"Right now I'm headed towards one of our training grounds, where we're scheduled to have some companies of our division practicing coordinated kido formations. Ah, companies refers to a unit within our division; I spent some time in the Vizard Corps, and I've tried applying some of the things I've learned there to the division, as a means to be more organised. If you have any questions, please ask, I'm more than willing to answer."

HIME TATSUMIYA

Assessment(Hime/Liana) 6EdIfMt

Hime's first impressions of this woman were very positive. Her aura and demeanor were very welcoming for a Captain, so welcoming that if Hime were to imagine herself in the scenario of a fledgling seated member who had just joined her division, she would feel at ease being in this woman's presence, inspired to do everything that she asked without question. Hime made a mental note of her personality before she followed the woman.

The scenery that captured her attention as they walked through the division was nothing short of breathtaking. As a woman who was once apart of the Gotei in the distant past, it was not a sight unlike any she had ever seen.

The division grounds were covered in a floral array of sakura trees, trees bearing fruit, roses, and decorative pieces. If Hime did not take in her entire surroundings, she would've easily mistaken this for a sight she would've witnessed on earth. Even the faint sounds of animals were enough to give the graceful woman pause.

The accompanying sounds of division members were composed, thoughtful, and conducive to the type of success a captain would be proud of in their division.

There were no egos to be found here, no disputes; it was as if Liana was running a state of the art workforce. Hime was clearly impressed as she followed Liana and listened to her speak. The use of the term companies added even more credence to Hime's mental comparison. With piqued interest, Hime decided to inquire more about these companies within her division.

"This is all very impressive, Captain. I cannot speak for my commander, but I am wholeheartedly certain she would be impressed by the presentation and organization of your division - it is a truly captivating sight to behold. Concerning these companies that you speak of, would you be so kind as to explain what they entail? What led you to apply these unique ideas? Is there anything else that you took from the Vizard corps?"

Hime did not mean to ask three questions in one sequence but considering that it all applied to this subject, there wasn't anything inherently wrong with asking as many questions as she could. That said, she would take care to ask a single question henceforth, as a proper assessment should be.

LIANA UNOHANA

"Thank you for your kind words. There is surely more work to be done, but I am proud of the progress my division has made."

Liana offered a short bow to Hime before continuing.

"A company is simply a sub-unit ranging between 100-200 people. Of course, with the size of the Gotei, our companies are closer to around 80 people, but still a sizable number. They're divided into several other sub-groups each tasked with their own function to the company, and the company itself can sometimes have their own special function attached to their higher groups as well. It allows me to train these companies in groups of people for which the training is most pertinent, and they can focus on certain aspects of their job to become specialists and experts, without having to give too much attention to subjects outside their main focus.

My experience in the Vizard Corps allowed me to see how other organisations functioned in contrast to the Gotei. In my humble opinion, I believed that some of the things other organisations did were admittedly superior, but if the Gotei could adapt to them, then surely the Gotei would rise in capability and strength. Naturally, for betterment of the Gotei and in its interests, I decided on implementing them.

There are plenty of things I've learned and taken from the Vizard Corps personally, but outside of methods of organisation, I'm still working on ways to appropriately implement some other ideas in a functional manner. Not everything that works for the Vizard Corps works for the Gotei; we are our own, unique system with our own more superior and beneficial sub-systems as well."

HIME TATSUMIYA

Assessment(Hime/Liana) 6EdIfMt

To say that the graceful woman was impressed would be nothing short of an understatement. The flawless organization with which she carried her division was impeccable. Each explanation that she provided about the concept of companies and how she applied that to the healing division was truly unique.

She rarely ever saw Captains take influences from earth and integrate them into their own beneficial form. Liana Unohana... Hime was definitely certain Abalia would value this woman highly.

One aspect that she found especially commendable was the noteworthy goal of developing her members into specialists who didn't have to work themselves to death with every nuance of healing the soul. With Liana's system, all members of this division could learn a field that was more suited to their skill rather than something above their paygrade.

Hime wondered if there was anything else she planned to apply in the future.

"You have great reason to be proud, Captain Liana. As a former member of the Gotei 13, I never thought the healing division could be transformed into something so much more beneficial than a place to be healed and bandaged up. You learned a great deal from the Vizard Corps... is there anything else you plan to implement in the future?"

LIANA UNOHANA

"Of course. We aren't simply the Healing Division after all. We are the Kido Division, and more importantly, members of the Gotei United. There is a need to be more than just what is expected of us, in the event that more becomes called upon. I was very active during the events of the Demon Incursion, and with the Gotei being notably smaller than it was six years ago, it's most pertinent to be prepared. I hear the tensions from the last conflict a year ago that nearly evolved to World War 4 still remains, and one can never be too certain."

There was the usual calmness to Liana's tone, but her eyes spoke of the terrors. They were determined, decisive, and hungry. As if her glare could fell a beast with its sheer killing intent. Liana was, after all, the Black Moon of the Rukongai who ruled several districts with an violent fist; more notably, she was Unohana's daughter. That bloodthirst still lay deep inside her, famished.

"What's next? It's still in concept, but I'd like to be able to have the division perform cross-company, and even cross-divisional formations. If we have enough people participate and know the steps, Kidou at a scale never before seen can be casted, and the magic which demons are masters of will no longer be a threat. If we could add this much to the defense systems of our realm, we would be better defended than ever before."

HIME TATSUMIYA

Assessment(Hime/Liana) 6EdIfMt

Hime listened to Liana in silence as she spoke about how she fought in the demon incursion. Being locked away in prison for years had made her quite inept in her understanding of the world. The realm of earth was one she hadn't ventured in perhaps centuries.

Hime observed Liana as she spoke in her gentle tone with a pair of eyes that was truly befitting of one who bore the name "Unohana." Hime could feel a chill up her spine as she gazed at the woman before she continued to stare at her notes, browsing through any pertinent questions that may have remained. However, what Liana described next was noteworthy enough that Hime found herself filled with a desire to write it down.

Cross-formations? Kidou at a scale never before seen? As someone well-versed within Kido herself, the thought was an intriguing one. To combine Kido and to have countless others perform it in their own unique way, it could truly be a threat within the right hands.

"Amazing... If I may speak from my own opinion, as one who has practice Kido in the past, what you intend to implement sounds as if it would truly be beneficial to not only this division but the Gotei in general. "

Hime looked through her sheets of paper and decided to inquire about her Vice-captain. She had heard his name before in circles around the Gotei but she wished to know how this man was performing in her division and if Liana favored having him as her vice-captain.

"I believe that we are nearly finished with the assessment. Now, I wish to know about how you feel about your division and the people that operate under you. Judging from what I've seen, this entire division has seemingly brought into everything you've taught but I only wish to know one thing. How is your vice-captain? Is he sufficient for what your cause is? Are his efforts adequate? I only ask this question based on the reason that a captain and their second in command should be on the same page. Does this apply to you two? "

LIANA UNOHANA

"Well, that is the aim."

Liana spoke with a small smile, pleased with the response to her ideas. The woman was suspicious of Hime to a degree, but a genuine compliment and appreciation was always nice and welcome. In result, Liana's eyes returned to their normally pleasant and calm presence.

As the two continued walking, they neared the place which Liana intended to inspect. Several dozens of people were in organised formations, each group chanting a different incantation in unison. Altogether, it almost sounded like the singing of hymns, and some of the shinigami moved in tandem, like a choreographed dance. The cadence and maintained rhythm of the groups looked so lock-stepped that it seemed like some sort of visual illusion, with shapes and lines of their movement crossing over hypnotically.

"Hmm, so far, I'm quite pleased with the division and the people under me. There's always going to be someone uncooperative, or a bad apple in any group you come to, but I believe that how they function in the group is vitally influenced by a leader's approach to them. For the time being, no person I've come across has been too troubling, and I've been able to respond to their insubordination in different avenues effectively."

Liana had no issues with the first half of the woman's latest inquiry, but the second half--the questions on her vice captain seemed rather intrusive. It sounded like there were already premeditated opinions on her Vice-Captain, or there was underlying motive. Whether this was something positive for Takehiko, or something negative, or something that would reflect on Liana, the captain would have to probe into this point of interest afterwards.

"Well, we haven't spent much time together yet. I haven't had a Vice Captain for quite a while, so it's difficult to say as not only do the both of us--I presume--have little experience with the dynamic of our, but I personally have not had much experience with him as a person. I've heard some issues with him, but as I've said, I've yet to come across any egregious issues that might be an impediment. However, I do assure you, Tatsumiya-san, if there is any issues I come across, they will be appropriately dealt with."

Liana's eyes were laced with the same bloodthirst as the mention of the Demon Incursion in her final words about 'dealing with things'.
