All throughout Moscow, there had been different citizens going about their lives without a care in the world. With Lux Orior and Vastime officials meeting today to discuss the concerns of World War Four, it was hard-pressed to find much reason for an attack to take place with this much heat in the city.

So -- many would assume things were well.

But this day was so awful for one of the higher diplomats of the Vastime Nation.

As the sounds of a woman spewing out vomit echoed in a back-alleyway, the sight of The Devil of Liberation could be seen hunched with her knees hugging her chest as a pool of freshly coated blood dripped against the pale snow. Dealing with so many tedious meetings, it took so much for the demoness to prevent herself from breaking down during these draining exchanges with the Russian Government and Lux Orior.

Something was wrong with her body and she could begin to feel the subtle flame of new life brewing within her naval. When that touch of new existence brewed in her belly, the woman's face streamed down with cold tears as thoughts of panic, regret, disbelief, and shock flowed in her being all at once.

"I don't want this."

Over and over, the devil silently repeated that as her tears grew more frequent. Drifting her right claw to her stomach, the woman could feel her heart thumping harder as memories of that night both she and Hayden flowed into her mind. In a state of loneliness, the craving for love and lust got the better of her and she found herself in his arms. Yet, she was beginning to feel it was a mistake.

As more blood spewed out of her mouth, the flow of scarlet fluid turned into a puddle which reflected her misty eyes back to the devil. It was pathetic to her in such a state now having lost her father; the one who was her everything and having to resort to attaching herself to someone else. The pride of not needing anyone was long gone and all that was left was a shameful devil in her eyes. Those fiery days of independence were a long-faded memory and all that remained as a needy -- mother to be.

"I can't be a mother...."

As she took a series of slow breathes, the woman continued to cry as she pressed her claw against her stomach; almost drawing blood if she were to apply further pressure. Biting down on her lip to the point of drawing blood, the woman froze herself and shook as the snow started to fall down all around her

Liu -- didn't know what to do anymore...

Naturally, when it came to matters of diplomacy, Abalia would always be willing to go in her husband's stead. And when it was a matter of Vastime's own interactions, one would be hard pressed to find someone more qualified to speak in the name of the Iron King than his White Gold Queen. But as the day's meetings came to an end, Abalia noted that her companion had yet to return to their accomodations. She knew that Liu was far from the sort to abide by hard rules, but at the same time, it was peculiar not to have seen her at all by now, particularly given the talks they would presumably need to have. Grabbing the thick black coat she always wore in cold environments such as these, Abalia went out into the freezing night without a second thought.

Given her lack of spiritual power, it was admittedly somewhat difficult to find Liu just through detection alone, but what she lacked in power she made up for in her ability to get information from others. Questions asked of every passerby, connecting every dot and possible lead- it took some time, certainly, but it would have taken far longer if Abalia did not take this so seriously. In the end she found herself almost- concerned, if the faintest bit. It was helpful that she was looking for someone with as distinct an appearance as Liu, but the descriptions she had received about people who had seen the woman were not enheartening as to her state.

When all was said and done, Abalia found herself walked into a back alley, and she suspected just from the sound of quiet crying that this was the right place. She continued to walk forward dauntlessly, but the sight that she was met with...it made her pause, for only the briefest of moments, before she crouched with great concern for the woman before her. That was, admittedly, not an easy action for a woman well into the last months of pregnancy, but she managed just fine given the circumstances.

"Liu. It is Abalia. Speak to me, tell me what has happened."

She had a few ideas what the answer would be, but she would not presume.

Rich shades of scarlet overflowed in the alleyway as the woman started to try and get a grip on her breathing, cease those tears and try to feel out the disgruntled mess that her heart and head were in. It was a terrifying reality to be a mother when those second thoughts bled into her mind. Yet, before she could focus on that reality, the woman's eyes widen like a deer in headlights when she picked up on the audible voice of Abalia.

"The hell!?"

How else could the woman respond to something so sudden? With the outpour of a demonic hiss, Liu's fangs were beared on display as her claws extended, eyes grew with fire and scarlet aura more pronounced than before as it seemed the woman's body was doused in this red glow of foul energy. It was a defensive measure, but once she calmed herself down they eased until she took a long gulp and eased her nerves.

All Liu could do was stare like an animal that was wounded and corned. It was hard to tell where her instincts began and her unsteady emotions began. This lone devil wasn't certain how she should respond to the human, nor what the right words to say to her given the -- complicated -- relationship. So, rather than waste time trying to tip-toe against such an ugly subject, the raspy voice of the devil just spoke the truth.

"I...am pregnant. It's Hayden's."

There was silence after that as the woman looked almost ashamed of it as she grabbed her stomach and shook her head.

"I'm not sure if I'm ready for that. "

Billions of other words could be spoken, but the truth was so simple. Birth was a scary thing for demons. Being connected to their offspring meant it was a lifelong connection that can only be severed through death. And still reeling over the death of her own father figure, the raddled psyche of the devil started having doubts that she could avoid a future where such a pain would become even worse than what she feels now.

"Nor do I feel I have a desire to be the third wheel to your relationship."

There was scorn and hate felt in that voice, as Liu hated that feeling as if she were potentially a token wife; something to be used when the mood suit Hayden's fancy. Perhaps that was her own inability to trust another with her heart, but it was something she could not ignore. So, as she placed herself slowly against the cold concrete wall, the demon continued to set her glowing red gaze upon Abalia.

"Fuck. I'm supposed to be a devil built on the foundation of liberation, yet here I am enslaved to the whims of another because my own miserable heart couldn't bear the loss of my father and it makes me fucking sick."

Despite Liu's outburst, and the terrifying visage she displayed, Abalia stayed entirely collected. Her stance did not change, and as the devil looked so pathetic in this moment, she could only offer a hand of reassurance, not touching her, merely letting her hold her hand if she wished.

"I suspected such might be the case. I think few are ready for motherhood, Liu. I certainly was not. But if you are concerned as to your place in our relationship, that you might be a third wheel, then I promise that will not be the case. You are dear to Desmond, else he never would have come for you, and I certainly would welcome you into our home without hesitation."

Abalia, after a moment, took a seat next to Liu against the wall, and removed her large black coat to use it as a blanket to cover the devil. She looked cold, and this sort of weather hardly bothered the Queen of Vastime. She thought about how best to speak with Liu on such an emotional topic, knowing this was not her particular strong suit. Still, there was a right and a wrong in these instances.

"Do you consider it enslavement? Or is this doing as your heart wishes? There is a difference between liberty and anarchy. To share one's heart with another, I think, is only so damning if you do not wish to share it."

There was a lot to digest from the words which Ablaia spoke. No one was ever really ready for any curveball that life threw at them. So, if she were to progress through this, she'd have to make a definite choice. It's not as if being alone was doing her wonders, anyway.

Still, though, she couldn't sulk too much in her thoughts. There was a slight widening of the eye when Abalia placed her coat over her. It caused the woman to almost blush and feel ashamed of herself. Recalling her feelings of contempt and contemplation over murdering the woman, the devil shivered since all that simply turned to muddled recollections of a dying sense of vengeance within herself.

Enslavement? Love? Could such a thing be liberation? It was something to think about it. The lens of reality could be seen through so many different painful and loving shades. And when thinking in her place in this world, there was a nudge of her own inner feminine nature which spoke truths of finding freedom from her loathsome loneliness with more people at her side. Yet, the pride of a devil was a powerful thing and it was such a hard thing to weather through this demonic landscape which was her mind.

Nevertheless, in spite of this confliction of the soul, she wouldn't fail to give Abalia an answer.

"I...guess I do."

Point black, that is what Liu's desires were aligned toward, but there was a monstrous comfort in going life solo that kept her from fully committing.

"...it's just easier to be alone. No responsibilities, no commitments, no worries. As a devil in hell, you are taught to rely on yourself."

At this point, Liu just gave in to her cravings and leaned on the shoulder of Abalia as her blood-soaked eyes began to have tears stream down her cheek.

"But...even as I say that I did always lean on Ravan, Nizhuan, and others....."

While biting her lip down out of a sense of emotional discomfort, Liu pushed against those restricting emotions and continued.

"...so maybe I can still find that love with you two."

With that, she let out an exhale of breath and wiped away the tears from her now reddened face.

Such a shameful display of affection...

Abalia simply nodded in affirmation of Liu's response, wanting to convey that she both heard and understood. Sometimes, in instances like these, it was best not to speak until you were sure that the other person had said everything they needed to. It was only after Liu had finished speaking, and rested her head upon Abalia's shoulder, that the Queen spoke once more.

"It is always easier to rely only upon yourself, for there is only a single point of purpose you need follow. But when you fail, for failure is an inevitability in life, you will have none to rely on but yourself. And that, I have found, is simply not worth succeeding alone."

Offering the devil a pat on the head as she wiped away her tears, Abalia allowed herself the smallest of smiles, her lips just barely tilting upward. Of course, it was still far more than she ever typically displayed.

"I think that you will find it quite handily, Liu."

Liu was quiet for a moment as her face turned a brighter shade of cherry when Abalia began to pat her head. It did feel nice, she had to admit. When she got past her initial disgust for the woman, it seemed as if the human had a very -- calming -- aura to her. It managed to quell the beast instinct within herself and she felt safe for the moment. And, from that feeling, a warm fluttering flowed into her heart; similar to the one she felt when with her father or Hayden.

Though, once she got past the physical touch her, The Devil could process her emotions and try to make sense of what the woman said as it did mean something to her.

"Yeah...I don't think it will work out if I go alone."

Sounding more sheepish, Liu tried to envision a life where she made the world her enemy to get Ravan back. Fighting alone, enduring those injuries and dealing with the damage to her psyche that such isolation could inflict upon a spirit would merely have her revert back to that frighten imp of a demon she once was. Yes, the same child-like demon too meek and pathetic to exit her own layer of hell and relied so heavily on her hell beast to be her crutch.

No.

Liu didn't want that.

So, as much as it was uncomfortable, that discomfort was a sign of growth. If she could lean on these people for strength, maybe, just maybe, things could work out. The future was never certain, but at least there were intelligent investments you could make toward your own liberation and freedom. And perhaps, it wasn't so bad to be alleviated of that loathsome curse of loneliness.

"I'd just revert to a hermit or turn into a completely different monster. I don't wish to go down that road anymore."

With a parting glance at her side, Liu meekly moved her right hand so it grabbed Abalia's hand. Embarrassed by such an act, the woman turned away from her and let out a flustered sigh.

"So...I guess I'll keep the baby. This feeling is kind of nice. The love thing, I mean. It's nice to love you."

It was reassuring to see Liu obviously calm down a touch, seeing as it was always more difficult to speak with someone in the depths of emotional turmoil. Though, Abalia had to remind herself that, at least in this instance, she was not simply dealing with "someone," she was dealing with a woman quite dear to her husband, a woman who would ideally be a part of her family. Such a personal view of things was...strange.

"It rarely does. I have found that to operate only on one's own is to simply let down one's guard. To love someone is to trust in them to assist in areas where one is lacking. In that sense, it makes us into better people, I think."

Look at Abalia, speaking so sagely on the topic of love. She wondered when she had become such an expert on it, but that was a topic for another time. At the moment the focus was squarely on Liu, and the Queen was quite gentle as she held the devil's hand in hers.

"It is quite nice, yes. To love, to raise a family. In time, the fear will fade, I assure you. A certain pride takes its place."

Perhaps it wasn't so bad then. Maybe it was just nerves, but at least she felt more relaxed about this whole ordeal. As Abalia spoke, Liu did indeed pay attention and could hear all her words; yet the woman's blood eyes shifted toward her stomach. Thinking of what kind of future her child would have in this world, it was going to be a hard road to go down, though she felt more certain of it with Abalia at her side.

"You aren't wrong. It is terrifying. I don't have anyone else to fall back on if I do get hurt lowering my guard. Ravan is gone and I have no one."

Those words came with a sense of melancholy behind them as the woman's face softened. With visuals of death flowing into her mind, she'd know that when her birth was over, that creature was going to be slain one way or another. Revenge had to be extracted for the loss of her father. But, that was for another day.

Instead, her crimson gaze fixed itself back to Abalia when the subject of raising a family was uttered out of her mouth.

"How will this even work out? My child will be a prince or princess of The Underworld. I can see complications coming."

While it was nice to seek solace in her affection, there was still a weird reality placed before the devil. Whatever being was going to come out of her body is going to be destined to be a vessel which is torn between the living realm and the foulest depths of demon world itself: Hell. Complicated decisions were going to have to be made as not even Liu herself understood where the world was turning. So, with someone as politically driven as Abalia, it made sense to pose the question of where their child's future was heading.

"I cannot and will not sever my ties to hell, so what do I do for my child, Abalia?"

"I once heard it said that there comes a time in everyone's life when they must risk everything they have upon a matter of unknowable outcome, and that those who deny such risk will forever be children, and nothing more. I am not so certain whether I agree with this outlook, but I think there is some merit in its premise. Nothing worthwhile has been accomplished without the possibility of terrible failure."

Perhaps that was not the reassurance that most might have offered in such a situation, but to Abalia it was the most affirming thing she might have said without simply lying to the woman beside her. There would never be a world wherein the path before her was easy. But, rather, it was important to consider the worth of walking that path regardless.

"Yes, the child will have a great responsibility before them. I do not deny that. But much as you are not taking this upon yourself, they will not need to endure that alone, either."

Abalia knew, after all, that her own child would have unfathomable weight upon their shoulders as the crown princess of Vastime. That her next would be the future heir to the Kyoraku family. There was such weight upon their shoulders even before their life had begun.

"All that you can do as a mother is to offer them your support, Liu. And, perhaps most importantly, to convey to them the lessons you have learned through your own life. To ensure that your child lives a life better than your own is, I think, one of the most central goals of parenthood."
