Despite the barren taste of winter staining the earth, the sense of warmth radiated from the golden glow of the sun. The hearts of these people were filled with a sense of strength, pride and Moxy to otherwise endure the hardships that the planet has faced in the wake of World War 4. You could see it in the many different soldiers of the Lux Orior which scattered across the whiten forests. Their faces had mixtures of determination, focus, and grit to them that only a united people could muster.

With most of their focus being expansion of their military might, many were seen venturing in various holes in the ground which led to vast underground caverns which held many various generators, weapons, research projects and other unspecified equipment from both the Russian Government and Lux Orior under the oversight of Radioactive. As a form of Russian Royalty for his heroic acts in WW3, these people needed a figure and symbol of strength to represent their might and Radioactive was the best thing they had.

Thus, it is why the golden-haired male stood atop the mountains with his men as they could feel a sense of warmth and glow around his body which produced an inspiration of will within themselves. This wasn't because the male yielded absurd amounts of strength, but because the heart of humanity worked better in tribal settings. And, in tribal settings, there is always someone at the top of the hierarchy which holds the potential to lead and inspire those who work for them. Hence, he had dedicated himself to trying to become diplomatic, entering into different political conflicts with the Russian Government and being a better ambassador to the Lux Orior so he could further not only his brute strength, but ability to resolve things without resorting to his power.

So, despite him not taking a center stage in this world recently, he focused on increasing his tact, intellect and ability to lead so that calamities could be diffused before needing to resort to such barbaric power. There are enough hot-headed spirits in this world reaching on impulse, he didn't need to be another force adding to the flame of chaos in the world and he wanted to better himself as a man to find that higher purpose than just senseless murder; even if he did still enjoy a good thrashing or two.

Regardless, he remained atop the mountain with his chest as bare as the day he was born and adorning only a pair of ragged, loose red pants. With his lone gold eye overseeing the beautiful sight of Russian winter under the golden ray of the sun, he could give that signature fanged smile of his as he felt a sense of progression and hope based on how he handled the affairs in this nation.

Yet, before he could indulge further in this scenic moment, one of his soldiers came rushing with an urgent message:

"Uhm, sir? I believe we have company coming from Vastime...."

With a questionable expression written across his face, the male batted a raise of the eyebrow before he turned to deal with whatever had come to him...

Alex

Russia wasn't too long a walk from Vastime, and that made things a whole lot easier for Alex given the fucking beating he'd taken from Hayden. Of course, when your girl could heal you up so easy, that made things a little better, but it was still fucking rough. Not to mention, he was still sick as a dog, though right now he was doing okay. A cough here or there, but nothing he couldn't just work around. This cool mountain air was definitely helping, though, even if it wasn't the sort of environment he was too used to.

Ah, man, but where was he supposed to be going again? He normally just followed his instincts on these things, but they'd sure as hell let him down way too many times now, so despite hating it he'd brought a map and was actually following the GPS. Of course, he didn't really know how to read either one, but he was definitely doing better than if he'd just let himself wing it altogether. Judging from all the trucks and shit around here, it looked like he was in the right place, and he was like, 80% sure this was the Lux Orior logo he was seeing. Was that blonde guy the right guy? He was pretty sure it was. Only one way to figure that out, so he just called out to 'em. Worst comes to worst, he was wrong.

"Yo, you Radioactive? I called ahead, not sure if anyone gave you the memo."

There was a smirk across his face as he saw the muscular figure of Alex arrive in the wintry mix. If nothing else, the initial impression he felt from his spirit was one that was rather warm and fiery. And, above all else, that was important in this world. Physical strength and energy were fleeting things, but if one lacked control of their spirit and mind they were all worthless gifts.

At any rate, Radioactive gave a nod of the head to affirm he was the one the crimson-haired man sought.

"Oi, that is me."

And it is at this point where the two difference between the two was hard to avoid. In-person? Radioactive was pretty much a giant. Standing at a firm 7'11, the male gazed down on Alex before explaining what he knew about the situation.

"I know enough. From what they told me, I was told you wanted to seek me out. So I have the who, but I don't have the why."

There was then a pause before he shifted his lone eye straight to Alex's.

"So tell me: why have you sought me out? Is it for a fight, or something more....?"

The tone which uttered from the male's raspy voice wasn't one of judgment, sarcasm or anything like that. Radioactive was genuinely curious he could want with him. Of course, some of his soldiers were still a bit confused. As many of them had perplexed looks on their faces, but many shrugged it off and started scrambling in the background to get to work with whatever mass project they had been working on out in these lone mountains.

Damn, he was a big guy. Alex'd heard Radioactive was fuckin' tall, but this actually kinda threw him for a loop. He was used to being the tallest guy in the room a lot of the time. Shit, even Hayden was shorter than him, and that guy had the presence to fill a room without even trying. But this guy? He was just huge. Kinda rad, honestly.

"I mean, I figure we'll probably end up throwing hands at some point. That's usually how this kinda shit goes, but I didn't come here just to throw a right hook outta nowhere. Hayden said I oughta come talk to you."

Alex kept his stance tall and confident, but his once lax demeanor seemed to straighten out a bit as he got more to the point. He wasn't a hard guy to read at all, and it was pretty clear just at a glance that he took this topic pretty seriously.

"I've got a family I need to protect, and uh... I dunno, you strong people always seem like you can tell how strong someone is at a fuckin' glance. I figure you can tell I couldn't stop a whole lot. I got a long way to fuckin' go. I've heard you're a pretty strong fuckin' guy, Radioactive. I wanna learn from you. Not just slug it out, not just fuckin jump around and have some stupidass fight where we talk about our feelings and you gimme some snippet of wisdom and I go off on my way thinkin' I've grown so much."

There was an obvious fire in Alex's voice, more than enough to make it obvious how much this meant to him. He had to pause only for a brief coughing fit, but he composed himself just as quickly.

"All that shit's just one off. It's not good enough. I wanna fucking learn. Whatever you got to teach."

Radioactive had a soft spot for spunk, but what was more important was the uttering of family which came out of the fiery male's mouth. It made the shark-toothed figure crack a confident grin at this resolve to find something worth fighting for in the urge to follow his primal instincts as a man to provide for his family. How could he ignore something like that? It was sincere tribalism at it's best.

"You've got a good head on your shoulders."

That was his first response toward Alex before he unfolded his arm and placed his right hand on Alex's shoulder.

"Oi, you are on the right path. Getting the shit beat out of you and having some sappy speech afterward isn't going to help you."

Despite how raspy his voice came across at this point, the expression of Radioactive seemed like a mixture between harden resolve and soften empathy. It was a hard feeling to properly articulate, but it was if he were in the midst of his own sense of will and pain. Having been through the wringer for so long, it's hard for someone not to gain a heart if they could process the hardship they been through. So, rather than keep them bottled up, Radioactive continued:

"Connection. Connection is all we need as men. Without connection to this earth, to this world and to the families we desire to connect strength is just a meaningless tool, friend."

The lone gold eye of the hulking figure glanced toward the sky before taking a moment to pause and steady himself for what was coming next.

"I lost that connection in World War 3. I doubt you'd care to hear a long tale, comrade. But what you should know about me is that I had a family, a wife, and children. They made me happy. I felt the savagery of my warrior heart melt in their arms. And yet....."

He needed a moment to gather himself. There was a brief moment of pain, but he owned that shit and nodded his head to proceed forward.

"...my strength wasn't enough. They died. I was alone. Alone for so long. Alone for so long I felt myself become nothing more than an animal craving the next fight again, again and again until I was nothing more than a liability than an asset to the world. I had nothing to strive for."

Done. That truth was uttered. The past hurt, but it was needed to remind him to better his future. So, his eye then turned to his men in the distance building something grand.

"Then, when I met Azure and the Vanguard, I knew what I longed for was another chance to be a father-figure to someone. To be family, to fight to protect things and use my gifts for something more than just mindless killing. It's been a hard road, but that connection as men to provide, protect and be strong is what drives us and is what will give us that primal and instinctively wisdom, Alex."

That's when he finally knew what he needed to hear from his comrade.

"How deeply do you love your family, Alex? Striving for something beyond ourselves is the only way for men like us."

Alex listened to every word Radioactive said with a rather obvious attention. He was here to learn, after all, and God damn it he would learn. So he listened, and it made a whole lot of sense why Hayden told him to come here. He didn't wanna interrupt, so he just waited for Radioactive to finish. When he was done, Alex looked out over the wide vistas provided by the height of this mountain. He was quiet just for a little bit, since he wasn't good with words.

"I spent about a decade trying to find somethin' that mattered. Saw the world. Hell, I built half a city by hand. Did a lot. None of that even came close to meaning as much as those girls mean to me."

Lighting a cigarette for himself, Alex took a long pull of it as he just watched the horizon. He'd told Nel he wouldn't go disappearing for too long, but here he was running off again... He'd have to call often. Get back as soon as he could.

"I'd do anything for my family, Radioactive. If I had to spend the rest of my life in agony, then I'd fucking do it without even needing to think about it. You said you were alone, felt yourself like nothing more than an animal. You know how empty it feels to go without something to care about. Not just my girl, not just my daughter. Too many people I care about now, too many people I love. I don't care about anything in the world but making them happy."

Another pull of the cigarette, and the man was quiet again for a little longer. He looked upward at the sky, then mused almost to himself as much as to Radioactive.

"I'd destroy the whole world if I had to for them."

Hearing parts of Alex's story resonated with Radioactive. In fact, he chuckled with a sense of amusement behind his voice because of how long it took for him to figure out what was important to him. Compared to Radioactive, he got it done in less time. Radioactive spent nearly two centuries in such a pained state from the loss of what was so precious to him that he felt so devoid of any feeling but primal savagery to live up to his title as a hulking figure of strength.

"Oi, I can feel you there, comrade. I spent two hundred years in that suffering after I lost what my heart loved."

There was a mixture of joy, grief, and acceptance intermixed in the sternness of Radioactive's gruff Russian tone. Reflecting on these experiences that made him the man who he was had resonated many feelings, but he soon eased those pains as he knew it was needed to grow. Much like he broke down his muscles time and again, that spiritual and mental muscle needed to endure the same to turn more powerful.

"Then take that feeling and share it with me, comrade. What power do you have to destroy the world? How do you materialize that feeling into power?"

For a moment after speaking, Radioactive let out a soft exhale of breath before he focused his own fiery energy. Even in the atmosphere around them could Alex feel the churning of the Russian Figure's absurd volume of energy moving within the depths of his spirit. The world groaned for a moment as he focused, channeled into that feeling of strength and used all of those desires to control himself, to become something more and find things and people worth living for to prevent such an unstable power from scarring the earth to nuclear waste like had did in so much of his youth when he cared for nothing.

"I bring my strength out from a desire."

In that instant, the male clenched his teeth and fired off a burst of golden light which soared into the heavens. Upon releasing it, it felt as if that cluster of spiritual power which otherwise destroy this entire mountain. Yet, from that intense feeling of will, he controlled it, tamed the beast within and reduced it's grip to be a streak of energy which roared in the clouds above.

"I can use my brute strength, my spiritual power or nuclear abilities to reduce this entire world to ash. But...that's not what I desire."

When the explosion and tense feelings of heaven shattering power faded into gold light, Radioactive just gazed at the sky and carried on:

"I want the strength to protect, love and feel as I did when I was a human. And I can't do that if my power is unstable and destroys more than it protects. So, I desire to have the strength to guide my power to be tamed, controlled and like a tool to achieve what I want."

Then, when he was finished explaining, he didn't want to utter these sentients forever. So, he turned to Alex and asked him another important question:

"What is your power? When you look inside of yourself, what do you even see your power as being to help them?"

"Me... I just get hot."

Once again Alex listened to Radioactive, but he could tell the tone was shifting pretty quick. Sure enough, it did, and there was something about the weight of all Radioactive's words that just shook him, right to his core. He watched the power that this man could take in, and all the more impressively, what he could put out.

"I get so fuckin hot I can barely stand it. Starts slow, a little bit here and there. But I can always tell. I'm a pretty tough guy. Took a beating from Hayden, and honestly, I think I could take worse than he could. But I still get so goddamn hot that my own fuckin body just can't hold it."

Alex flexed the fingers of his right hand almost idly, the feeling of nearly losing that whole arm against Hayden almost seared into his muscle memory. Fuckin real good times there.

"I hate it. Not because it fuckin hurts, but just because it always happens. I get even a little mad and all the heat just starts comin' right to the surface. And maybe that wouldn't be so fuckin bad, maybe that'd be fine on its own. I can let off a little steam. But I get too fuckin hot, I get hit a little too hard, and I'm fuckin gone. Can't even control myself, and God knows I've fucking tried, Radioactive. I've tried until I couldn't move, but even when I trained under Ulv she couldn't change it. It's just there, waiting for me to slip up."

He could feel that very heat rising now, and as he pushed it right back down, he went into another coughing fit, worse than the last as the yet-undetected cancer of Hollow energy continued to fester and grow from the heat of Alex's own energy. Of course, he didn't know. He just thought he had a chest cold or something.

"That's not a fucking power I want to use to protect them. I don't wanna have to worry that I'll just end up being the reason they get hurt. If I can't use the power I've got, then I'll just fucking make power for myself. I'll keep them safe with nothing but my two bare god damn hands if that's what I've gotta do."

"Fuck me, we are the same then."

There was a hard laugh that came out of the mouth of the hulking Russian. It wasn't a mocking one, but one made from disbelief at the situation they were in. Every word which was being uttered out of Alex's lips was much of the same bullshit he himself underwent to gather control, restraint, and guidance from his own nuclear and physical abilities. So he knew just what kind of guide Alex needed right in that moment when he finished ranting to him about it.

"That animal will never leave you. If you fail to face it, it will eat you alive no matter what new power you get."

Radioactive was blunt and straight to the point in that instance as it is what he felt Alex needed to hear. As he felt that twinge of cancerous hollow energy, he knew then and there that this was a matter of spirit and matters that deal with the soul needed to be confronted no matter how uncomfortable it may be.

"Did you feel that monster inside of myself? That potential I have to decimate this entire world? I know that heat. It wants to melt its chains, destroy all that wish to suppress it and melt this existence until nothing but it's fiery rage exists."

At that moment, the tone of Radioactive shifted once more as a colder voice escaped his lips. Steam escaped from his nostrils, ears, and mouth. An ominous foreboding sense of power grumbled with a low roar as a vast volume of nuclear and spiritual energy span wildly within the soul of Radioactive; causing sparks of bio-electricity to scatter around his body and the vicinity for the next half mile or so. Yet, in spite of how much this menacing power wanted to scream out its pain, rage, and strength -- it was kept in check by Radiaoctive's focus and will.

"Every day I live with this poison in my mind, body, and heart that wants to blackout this world in its toxins. Yet, I stand to the challenge to turn that which is hell into heaven for me. This animal is always staring me, but it takes courage to admit that fear, face it and learn to live alongside it."

Then, as soon as that foreboding sense bled into the world around them appeared, as quickly did it fade away as Radioactive's breathing eased and he guided that fire within to be guided like a tamed and domesticated animal.

"It's not gonna be some bitch fight on the playground, but it can be done. The question is: do you have the courage to make that fire your bitch instead?"

Alex

Alex, for the first time in a good long while, just had to really, really think. He wasn't someone who thought fast, so he was pretty quiet for a while. But the fire of his passion was obvious behind those eyes of his, undaunted even by the constant pain he was currently in.

"I told Hayden something before he pounded me into the fucking floor. 'Anyone tells me something's impossible, I gotta do it. Just a matter of pride.' I've always fuckin told myself that I can't get this shit under control. Just had to live with it."

Finishing off his cigarette, Alex put it out on the palm of his hand, noting that it didn't even begin to hurt, and stuck the butt in his pocket so he didn't fuck up this pretty little spot. He took a deep breath, not focused on much of anything but that quiet heat always burning in his chest.

"Guess I got no choice. I'd be a fucking weak excuse for a man if I just rolled over like a little bitch, huh? Dunno what it'll take. Only one way to find out, huh?"

Grinning just a bit to himself, Alex looked up at the sky and thought about his family for a sec. Yeah, this'd suck. He knew. It'd suck more than fuckin anything he'd ever been through, odds were. But that was fine. Nothing mattered more than being able to keep them safe. And if he was gonna be a danger, then he'd have to fucking fix that. No matter what.

"It's not about courage, Radioactive. Doesn't matter if I'm scared as fuck. If I didn't do it, I wouldnt be able to look my family in the fucking eye."
