Artist: Undertale OST - Song: Your Best Friend - Word Count: 914
Words that had been robbed, words that could never bridge torn rifts. To inami the crowds around her at that moment as her niece once more put calypso down had become dyed in monochrome. The dismal shades of grey were hinted by flecks of ruby red. Once more, conflict had arisen when it should not. Once more, it was proven that this world was always unfair, and unequal. A sickness welled deep within her, and she wished that she could retch. A vileness washed over her that robbed the light from her eyes, and once more stole the smile from her lips. ”A petulant child? Is she referring to..”
A tremor faintly danced upon her as she softly released bid’daums gentlemanly grip. For a moment illogicalities would awash the party. Wine would float upwards from goblets, shadows would radiate light. There would be spots where gravity ceased to be, and other spots where sound would no longer walk. It was as if the rules that reality abided by for that moment, when calypso’s tired and battered gaze met her own--ceased to be. Such was the state of instability within the queen of chaya, that her ungodly grip over herself slipped, and her powers bled forth to stain the realm in it’s color.
For that moment, and only that moment, the world and it’s inhabitants would truly understand what it meant to be a being of inami’s calibre. The sky itself was lit with the incandescent haze of inami’s unearthly might. It was as if heaven and earth had been turnt upon its head. For a being whose very power stemmed from mental instability, the floodgates would release a spike of power in that moment that could be felt within hundreds, if not thousands of miles.
But only for that moment, because in the next that ungodly power was reigned back inward, hidden within inami’s petite body, like a behemoth once more returning to its slumber. And yet, for all the talk inami had made of showing a united front to the demon realm, to show them their rulers were united to the cause of their wellbeing, ribbons of blood dripped forth from the queen’s face from where her nails had dug upon her own flesh. A feeling of dread emanated from her as the crows parted and Inami glanced up at the woman who had single-handedly done more damage to this family than any of the asthavon sisterhood had managed in the past four hundred years.
Inami’s deadened gaze landed upon Algos, boring into her as she walked towards her. What made it worse however, was even now, after all she had done, Inami’s heart still ached for her, for the life she had been subjected to. She did not hate Algos what so ever, and that made all of this so very hard. That was why as the crowds parted, some cowering upon their knees in fear for the power that the queen had unleashed, Inami worked through the myriad of emotions that filled her at that moment.
She worked through the anger and despair at their broken household. She worked through the sadness at the present, and the frustration at the broken world that had caused this to happen. She worked through her feeling of powerlessness at her inability to protect them all, and it only served to further cement her feeling that this world needed to change
She knew that at this moment, her visage was unbefitting of a queen, and that this gathering was undoubtedly ruined. That they had failed to put up a united front in front of the beings of the realm, and yet she did not regret it. To those of her nation, they knew that she would protect them. She did not need the sympathy of this nation, not right now when she had come so unbelievably close to snapping in a fit of rage that only mana would have been capable of stopping.
Right now she was being selfish, because her tenuous grip was slipping. That was why as her deadened eyes gazed upon algos she sighed softly, blackened smog billowing forth from her lips as she stopped next to the white-haired girl and drew her into a hug. However, there was no warmth in it, instead it would feel drab and empty. Callous and cold, as cold as the weary expression that had adorned the queen’s face. To everyone else, it’d look like she was supporting her family. However to algos she’d hear the words that Inami leaned in to murmur against her ear. ”Why is loving you so hard algos, when all you do is take, and destroy? Even now.. I love you, and that.. That is what hurts the most.”
With those words said, Inami’s hands withdrew from Algos, with a feeling of finality as Inami without looking back at any of them began to walk towards Mana’s palace.
