Shifter Appearance Description: Taken after his appearance before his demonic conversion, Vanyel’s Shifter Appearance retains his medium-length, snow-white hair, minus the blue strip made from the Seal of Eris’ influence, as well as the mildly muscular build from his time getting into street fights and light activities that influenced him during his time in the yakuza. Another trait that is retained in both appearances would be his cobalt blue eyes, a common theme within his attire and physical features, as noted by his clothing, adorning mildly flashy and formal attire with many shades of blue and small hints of black -- a memento of his time in the yakuza, as well as a personal preference. His main outfit is a dark blue dress shirt with long sleeves, reaching down to his wrists, with fingerless gloves to cover his hands, as well as a hoodless jacket that either goes around his shoulders or wearing it regularly, while his lower attire consists of dark blue dress pants and steel-toed boots.

Beyond clothing cosmetics, the clothes that he wears serve to hide the incomplete yakuza irezumi tattoo along his shoulders and back, in the shape of a red dragon with a missing pearl -- a design noted to be associated with those with quick tempers. Another thing his clothes are meant to hide would be the scarring around his left arm, a remnant of when Mirja Eeola tore his arm off and after Mana Asthavon used demonic magic to bring it back, though his body did not fully recover. More scars adorn his body, which was given to him by his own hand after an emotional meltdown due to the Seal of Eris’ influence and his mind and heart not knowing how to handle the overwhelming emotions after seeing the aftermath of Algos’ rampage against his beloved, Calypso.

However, despite all of this, there are still several traits from his new True Form that leak into his Shifter Form, the most notable of which being the draconic scales that adorn primarily his face and midsection, particularly around the Seal of Eris that resides in the center of his chest, as well as the sharpened teeth/fangs and fingernails/claws, another byproduct of his demonic transformation. On his neck, another notable trait emerges, being a pair of pinpricks merging with a devilish mark, unlike Calypso. This mark was given to him by Algos after she welcomed him into the kingdom, giving him a personal ability to enter the Demon World whenever he pleases.

True Appearance Description: After demonic conversion, several of Vanyel’s physical features changed. The first noted change would be his previous snowy white hair turning blue, taking after the blue strip, previously made as an indicator of him bearing the Seal of Eris. His hair is considerably longer, reaching down to midway down his back. The traits noted from before that had leaked into his Shifter Form remain in this form, albeit to a much larger and widespread degree. The scales are far more pronounced on his midsection, and a draconic, prehensile tail protrudes from the base of his spine. His attire has changed significantly in his True Form as well, yet still retaining the mildly formal and flashy thematic, along with staying consistent with long sleeves.

With a far more regal-looking outfit, Vanyel dons a dark blue dress shirt with long sleeves and a lighter blue-collar, covered by a dark blue tailcoat with a light blue interior and frills at the ends of the sleeves, and white gloves to replace the black fingerless gloves from his Shifter Appearance, all of which intend to cover the scars and tattoo along his upper body. Continuing the flashy and formal style of his clothes, the lower half of his clothes consist of white dress pants, complete with a black belt and cross-shaped buckle. Like his Shifter Form, his shoes are steel-toed boots, with a silver ankle guard just above them. However, there are still several traits that still retain themselves from his Shifter Form -- as they didn’t change, post-conversion.

The first constant would be his cobalt blue eyes, tying in with the colors of his general attire, as well as his fangs. Other traits that were retained were the mark and the two pinpricks on his neck that were given to him by Algos to welcome him into the kingdom, as well as his sharpened fingernails/claws. As with his Shifter Form, his true form still has the scarring around his left shoulder from his bout in Greece, as well as other various self-induced scars that are scattered and hidden among the scales and irezumi ink. Furthermore, Vanyel’s slightly muscular build is also conserved in his True Form, as is the beginnings of the red dragon tattoo along his back, once again resembling a quick temper, yet also suggesting and symbolizing passion, as well as the heart.

PERSONALITY


Stubbornness & Iron Will: Throughout his life, one of Vanyel's most definable traits was his explosive temper and extreme stubbornness. It is hard to dissuade him from a choice he makes, and as a result, will usually make him pursue it with even more determination. Even if he is battered and broken, there is little that can make him give up. To him, to give up is to admit that you weren't strong enough, to prove to the world that you're weak -- and nothing, to him, is worse than weakness. It is what drove him to pursue improving himself over the years, to develop his powers, to do the work that he needed to in the yakuza, and ultimately, to find a reason to keep going after it all fell apart. It allows him to shrug off many instances of pain as if it were nothing and motivates him to continue going, even when the odds are obscenely stacked against him.

Explosive Temper & Emotional Reactor: Due to a childhood of constantly having his feelings invalidated and having to suppress and bottle up his emotions, as he matured into adulthood, Vanyel had one signature trait during his time in the yakuza: a very explosive temper. Due to his emotions having to be forcibly bottled up during most of his childhood until he ran away from home, where it became very hard for him to keep his emotions bottled up any longer, and during his time in the yakuza, began developing a very bad temper problem. This led to him flying off the handle at the smallest of things, holding grudges for far longer than any regular person should, and getting into fights near-constantly during his time in the yakuza, as well as out of it. More often than not, Vanyel thinks with his heart and not with his head, leading to long strings of cursing, as well as leading to either him kicking someone's ass, or him getting his ass handed to him.

A Fighter at Heart: Another trait that he discovered from his temper and emotional reaction is his love for fighting. While trying his hardest to keep attention off him, now that he's out of the yakuza, it is difficult for him to calm the desire to come to blows. As his temper often got him into fights, it became an almost inseparable, yet important facet of his personality, enjoying the thrill and adrenaline of fighting, avoiding blows, landing blows, and knocking down his opponents. For him, this became not only something enjoyable, but it was also a way of venting out his anger and frustrations. Despite him being out of the yakuza for years, there is no denying that he is still a fighter, through and through.

Megalomania & Insecurity: To desire and have power is to have control. Unbeknownst to him, deep down, control is everything to him. Due to his lack of autonomy growing up and being unable to truly feel in control of anything in his early life, Vanyel become someone who is extremely paranoid about not being able to do things himself, to not feel helpless and weak, to show that he's capable of doing things himself. As a result, he doubled down immensely on every single little detail of his life after he ran away and began living on his own.

He began to crave power, becoming obsessed with it during his time in the yakuza out of a desire to feel worthwhile in the eyes of the man who brought him into the family, who gave him a place of belonging. Strength, for him, gave him purpose. It showed that he wasn't weak, and ultimately, it gave him control over his life. It made him think that things were going his way and allowed him to keep a sense of control over himself and his choices in life. After all -- the more power you have, the more you control.

But, as noted before, it was something that kept him from feeling that sense of personal weakness, and to him, nothing was worse than weakness. He would often make extreme efforts during his yakuza days to show that he wasn't weak, something that has only become even more prevalent in the present day as Algos and Calypso came into his life, showing him levels of power that he had believed to previously be unattainable, giving him a new desire to become even stronger than before.

Reserved: Despite his quick temper and emotional reactions, Vanyel does not enjoy or is even much capable of talking about his personal feelings and emotions. Tying into his feelings often being bottled up and invalidated in his youth, Vanyel has trouble opening up. Due to this, he is extremely out of touch with his own emotions because he does not understand them. He despises being hurt emotionally, and as a result, can often be self-isolative and antisocial in order to get away from the cause in order not to feel it.

Even though he will never openly admit it, he deeply misses what he has lost in his life, particularly the family that he made in the yakuza. Even in the criminal underworld, there was still a sense of camaraderie that he had with his brothers and superiors. It was a time when he felt as if he belonged. As a result of this and his home life, Vanyel developed monophobia, a fear of abandonment, and, deep down, is terrified of losing what he has come to love, and tying back into his other traits, has led him to become even further determined to protect it.


HISTORY


Born in a small community of Tao Chi cultivators on the outskirts of northern China to escape and get away from the dangers of the world, Vanyel Xiaoyang grew up like a regular cultivator.

NATURAL TRAITS


Strength: While for the first chunk of his life, strength was hardly something that he was very focused on, only enough to aid in his practices in Taijiquan. After he ran away from home, Vanyel quickly began working on his strength, making it a focus alongside his skill in martial arts, weaponry, and durability. Capable of smashing through walls, boulders, and more, even having lifting strength comparable to these things, Vanyel is still capable of being quite a powerhouse. However, even as a demon, he is still limited by his own stamina, and if he throws around too much of his maximum strength around at all times, he will tire himself out and force himself to recover or switch to a defensive strategy.

Durability: Despite having no regenerative or healing-based abilities, Vanyel has used this as a form of motivation as well as reasoning to continue improving his natural, physical durability. Having taken quite the amount of physical abuse over the years, he became quick to adapt and begin using his energy to not only refine his body and prevent it from being damaged as easily but also developing defensive abilities and techniques to keep himself from being hurt as easily, going so far as to layer those defenses to keep himself safe. While he may not be as much of a tank and damage sponge as someone such as Radioactive, Vanyel is certainly capable of causing a lot of damage, as well as taking a lot of damage, using his energy to make his body a shield, rather than try and develop some form of regeneration. For him, it’s a better use of energy to shield himself, rather than heal himself.

Speed: As someone who was often moving and keeping on his feet throughout his life, speed became an important aspect for Vanyel. Purposefully wearing light clothes to stay nimble and making it easier for him to move around, as well as being capable of using his energy to boost his natural speed if need be. While he isn’t the fastest individual in the world, Vanyel still holds speed close as a valuable tool, and a very applicable rush of adrenaline. However, his skill does not only involve movement speed -- two other types of speed come into play here: reaction timing and attack speed. Tying into his skill with very specific weaponry such as knives, swords, and even using playing cards as weapons, it is possible for Vanyel to also channel energy into these actions and create attacks that can be released at higher speeds than his entire body can, as focusing his energy into smaller actions can sometimes be leagues more effective than the effort of moving his entire body at once. As a result of this, Vanyel also has a moderately high amount of stamina, able to move long distances without too much fatigue, or staying in battle for long periods without tiring.

Martial Skill: Weapons and martial arts is something that has been a part of Vanyel's entire life. Initially learning the Chen style of the martial art Taijiquan as a method of self-defense as a child, it was something that Vanyel almost constantly practiced due to his parent's assistance. In addition, after learning of the Southern Dragon Style of Chinese martial arts (something that became the basis and inspiration for his own, personal martial art), it didn't take him long to practice that as well, albeit in secret. However, after running away from home, he quickly stopped relying on it, instead favoring the use of knives and short, bladed weapons.

After he joined the yakuza, it didn't take him long to become more formalized with his weaponry and martial arts, sharpening his skills and becoming more balanced with his capabilities. He learned more about Japanese weapons, and, in time, brought the famous katana and the (less famous) tanto to his arsenal. But, as time went on, Vanyel also became a far more brutal fighter, learning and using underhanded moves with formal practice and training through his time in the Japanese underworld in conjunction with the martial arts he already knew.

However, one last thing that Vanyel picked up overtime was his skill with bladed weapons and firearms. During his time in the yakuza, he learned about others such as pistols and revolvers, eventually commissioning his own personalized weapons from a smith in Japan. Even after the Kudo-kai clan fell apart, Vanyel continued to practice and learn about new weapons, become knowledgeable about rifles during his time in Norway, learn to hunt to put food on the table and be an enjoyable pastime.

Multilingual: As someone who’s traveled across the world in his life, it’s only natural that he’d have learned the languages over his time. Born in China, the native language there was his first, and what he used for a large majority of his life until moving to Japan, where he slowly learned both Japanese and English under the tutelage of the yakuza clan that took him in. After the clan fell apart and Vanyel moved to Norway to escape his sorrow and loneliness, Vanyel had to learn Norweigian during his time there to communicate in certain parts of the country. With these four languages under his belt, it allows him to communicate in a large variety of situations, or talk shit about someone behind their back in a language they don’t understand -- whichever fits the situation.

RACIAL TRAITS


Za Koa Core & Demon Energy: Due to him being a new, fledgling demon at the time of writing this, Vanyel does not have the strongest connection to the Za Koa Core and cannot use the energy-enhancing benefits to the same degree that other mid to high-level demons can, particularly due to him not having unlocked a Possessive Drive as of writing this, something that these two skills are intrinsically tied to. Despite this, Vanyel is still capable of utilizing this to temporarily augment his powers, future spells from Possessive Magic, or other racial abilities by a small margin.

Demon Magic [Possessive Magic]: When it comes to demon magic, while it is one of the strongest traits that many of his kind possess, Vanyel has yet to fully tap into the potential of magic related to the theme of his powers, something that gives him a great deal of freedom when the time comes to creating spells of his own.

Possessive Augment: Possessive Augment is one of the key elements that make the physical might of Demons rather difficult to deal with. This is because the bodies of most Demons are possessing the energy from the world around them passively in varying volumes. They then store this energy within themselves, digest it and convert it into the fuel needed to help them create a physical boost in power. As a result, they can create Possessive Augment which deals with the elements of possessive body manipulation and speed in which their energy movs in their body.

Unlike other races that depend on things like shunpo, Hierro, or Hakuda; a Demon's Possessive Augment houses all of their body manipulation and speed in one skill. And, what makes it different is that they can have some control over all these elements, but they must pick which element of their physical attributes will be their major focus. Thus, depending on their level of skill, they can have varying degrees of control and mastery of these attributes.

  • Possessive Shifting [Major]: As a result of being converted by Calypso Vael, Vanyel's main specialization when it comes to the major/minor system of Possessive Augment, is Possessive Shifting. While not capable of much aside from the bare basics, it should be noted that due to the circumstances of his conversion, his body automatically created a natural inclination towards the major that his convertor has. With Calypso being the one converting him, his body's natural inclination towards this skill, as well as it is similar in nature to his personal ability Jester's Deception, allows him to understand the mechanics of how it works and learn the basics quickly, though still requiring to go through regular amounts of training to strengthen and cultivate his talent in the skill.

  • Possessive Movement [Minor]: As a result of his conversion and his body's natural bias towards Possessive Shifting, Vanyel's skill with the other half of Possessive Augment is next to none at all. While able to briefly channel energy into his body so that he can travel short distances of a few feet quickly, there is little else that he can do as of writing this.

UNIQUE TRAITS


Sol's Radiance / Skadi's Embrace: An ability developed during his time in Norway and upon learning of the stories of the Norse gods, goddesses, and legendary figures, a naming convention quickly formed. This is a two-fold ability named after the Goddess of the Sun, Sol, and the Goddess of Winter, Skadi, with both sides of the ability about the aspects they govern. To begin, Sol’s Radiance -- originally conceptualized as a way to aid against the colder months of Norway -- is an ability that allows Vanyel to resist most low to mid-level cold temperatures, allowing him to resist most normal temperatures around the world and low-level temperatures from ice powers. On the other hand, Skadi’s Embrace was developed as the other half of this ability during the hotter months of Norway and around the rest of the world. Skadi’s Embrace, on the contrary to Sol’s Radiance, was built to resist low to mid-level heat, allowing him to live in most humid temperatures, unfazed. Both of these abilities became useful later in life, allowing him to reduce the damage that would normally be done by either fire/heat-based or cold/ice-based attacks by a maximum of 15%, preventing him from being damaged by those elements as harshly as others.

Ward of the Vigilant: Inspired by the endless sight of the Bifrost Bridge’s guardian, Heimdallr, Vanyel created this as a way to help him with security when returning to Japan, but most importantly, during his time in Norway, where hunting became a minor hobby of his. By summoning a small portion of energy, Vanyel can create a small object that he can place on the ground, called Wards, which he can use to see anything within a one-mile radius. Any movements that occur within that vicinity, Vanyel is made aware of. With this, Vanyel can also “see” through the wards by closing his eyes, using them similarly to a security camera, looking at the area from a bird’s eye view, at the cost of being able to see normally. Furthermore, this is an effect that is also applicable to Vanyel himself. By closing his eyes, he can also see a bird’s eye view of himself of twenty feet, although he can extend this by placing wards around him. This ability is capable of being placed on people and allows him to observe them with the same radius as if he were observing himself (20 ft), though this causes the energy to corrode and fade away much faster than normal, and halves the time it would be active, and they take up two “slots” of the total amount of wards he can have active. Ultimately, these Wards generally last around six posts, with them normally being replaced easily and are halved to around three posts if placed on a person, and a three post cooldown, if so.

Jester’s Deception: Named in tribute to the god of trickery and mischief, Loki, this ability utilizes the very same power that the God of Mischief used to stir up so much chaos in the Nine Realms: shapeshifting. By using a small bit of energy, Vanyel can change himself or another object into something else, though the biggest stipulation is that he must have physically observed the object or person that he wants to change himself or something else into, allowing an extreme level of control over his anatomy and body, though channeled into a detailed objective. This allows him to replicate the appearance of whatever he desires, even down to the smallest or even in singular details, so long as that requirement is fulfilled. For transforming objects, these changes are indefinite, they do not have a time limit until they turn back. However, when it comes to personal transformations, these do still have a time limit of around five posts, but the other way to end them early would be physical damage. Another weakness of these disguises would be the amount of focus that it takes to keep them active, ergo, by damaging Vanyel enough, there is the possibility of someone being able to end his deceptions, outside of his own will.

Allfather’s Supremacy: Named in tribute to the Allfather and King of Asgard, Odin, Allfather’s Supremacy utilizes this aspect of “absolute” control and subjection through how this allows him to use his energy. By enveloping or inserting his energy into an object, Vanyel can use that to refine an object, controlling the aspect of it and increasing its offensive, defensive, or even utility purposes. An ability most useful and used with his Kabufuda card deck from his days in the yakuza, an example of this would be wrapping his energy around one of the cards to increase the power of these, allowing them to become a weapon all their own. Additionally, after touching an object and enveloping his energy in it, Vanyel is also capable of creating strands of energy to control those objects with his energy, equivalent to his Strength, though these are limited to around ten to twenty feet in front of him.

Dreaming Devil: Due to his conversion into a demon by his now-wife, Calypso Vael, the connection that they've had for the last few years has grown exponentially stronger than before. In particular, Vanyel and Calypso can form a private mental connection with one another at any time without the need for the Seal of Eris, in addition to exchanging and sharing memories, emotions, thoughts, knowledge, and even dreams at any time, no matter where they are.

Royal Mark: After being marked by Algos herself, the Demon Princess granted him an ability from that mark that allows him to go between Earth and Demon World as he pleases, as well as to Algos’, the Queen’s, as well as the rest of the Royal Asthavon Palace. Possessive Theme: Chinese Mythology & Culture (Sub-Theme: Dragons)

Possessive Powers

Dragon Heart - Essence of the Dragon God: While the dragons of Chinese origin do not breathe fire -- hearing of the Western versions of the creatures he adored so dearly being able to do this inspired his powers as he grew, something that has manifested in a more clear sense with his transformation as a demon. This is a passive ability that Vanyel can tap into at any point: the ability to generate fire from any part of his body, though this primarily is done through the hands and feet, as well as his mouth. Vanyel can project these flames in large amounts and at high distances, capable of reaching around half a mile away from him, whether they are long streams of flame or condensed fireballs.
  • Vermillion Scream: By using a small to moderate portion of energy, Vanyel can channel his energy into his mouth and throat, allowing him to emit a blast of orange fire from his mouth, capable of extending out to around fifteen to twenty feet in front of him, capable of burning whatever it touches. On a base level, this fiery breath would be able to cause first-degree burns, and if more energy is placed into the attack, capable of reaching second-degree burns, though this is considerably more draining. However, this ability does come with its drawbacks, the first of which is that because Vanyel is inhaling and exhaling to activate and unleash this ability, it can take quite a lot out of him, physically to use continuously. Another physical drawback comes from this ability to create the flames inside his body to prepare them to be unleashed. By doing that, and tying in with the inability to use this in rapid succession, Vanyel can injure himself by using this continuously, something that leaves him keeping the uses of this to around once or twice at a time before waiting for two or so posts to rest.

Jin Jing Huo Yan (True Sight): Named after the eyes of the Monkey King, Seiten Taisei, Vanyel’s True Sight activates after allowing energy to flow into his eyes and augment his vision, giving him a larger sense of control over what he sees. The first trait that his True Sight grants him is the ability to see energy and energy types as an aura around someone, with colors to distinguish the different races, such as red for demonic energy, and blue for normal spiritual energy. This specific trait is unique, as it allows Vanyel to see these auras and energies without having to directly see someone, though the effect ends when he blinks, something that can come much sooner than normal as per one of the main weaknesses of the ability. That being, the longer that Vanyel has True Sight active, the more strained his eyes will become. Once deactivated, he must wait for two to three posts before activating it again.

Five Forms of Immortality: Named after the forms of immortality that the Monkey King obtained in the Chinese epic, A Journey to the West, Vanyel can cover his body in five layers of energy to create levels of defenses above his body, of which take the form of dragon scales; a personal touch to the ability. Starting from his skin, the first layer that is closest to him is arguably the strongest and takes some extremely powerful strikes to crack and break it. As the layers branch out from his skin, they get progressively, yet slightly weaker to balance out the absurdly strong nature of the first and closest layer of “immortality”. The layer closest to him, being the strongest, allows him to create a layer of defense equal to his Durability stat. After that, the second layer is a level below his Durability stat, continuing to the next layer, being two levels below. After that, the fourth and fifth layers follow the previous layer, keeping at two levels below his Durability. However, it should be noted that these layers do not all appear at once when activated.

When the ability is activated, only the outermost layer appears. After that layer is broken, there is a small period of time where the other layers, and himself, cannot be damaged. This is something to prevent an opponent from destroying multiple, or all layers of his defenses at once. Because of this, it allows Vanyel a small window of time to reposition to defend or attack. One of the final traits of this ability would be the ability to spread the effect of the closest shield layer with another person, allowing him to sacrifice his own safety for the sake of protecting someone else, as well as giving him a level of control over the damage that other people take. However, this is not without its downsides. Most notably, this makes his defenses considerably weaker, as the other layers of defense are not nearly as powerful on their own as the final, core layer. Furthermore, after each layer is broken, Vanyel must wait for a post per layer to come back, one at a time. (ex. Waiting for one post would bring one layer back, waiting for a second post would bring another back, etc)

Dragon King's Call: Storms were an infamous weapon in Ao Kuang’s arsenal, a notable symbol of his pride and power -- and by condensing his energy and manipulating the properties of it, Vanyel is capable of replicating that, generating lightning from his body and in the surrounding area. Through some form of physical motion, whether it be snapping his fingers for an instantaneous blast, or through the movements of his martial arts to create more elaborate arcs and forms of the basis, Vanyel can create and manipulate lightning in a fifty-foot radius of himself. The most common form he had used this with was by marking an area for a colossal rain of energy and lightning to shower down on, causing heavy amounts of damage to whatever was unfortunate enough to be in the way. However, he has managed to learn to condense this power, while still keeping the same range limit, allowing him to summon, manipulate, and generate lightning within that fifty-foot radius around himself, primarily using his movements and martial arts to guide the lightning along an intended pathway in order achieve a sense of flow and fluidity with his abilities.

Dragon Dance: Named after the real-world event, Vanyel’s Dragon Dance is a set of sub-techniques that involves projecting energy outward, shaping it in the form of a dragon, and using it, generally, as a form of attack. By cupping his hands and bringing them to his side, Vanyel can compress energy in his hands before pushing his hands forward to project the form outward. He can extend this up to fifty feet in front of him, controlling every part of the manifested creature while doing so. He can perform this up to five times before waiting for two to three posts to recuperate from potential overexertion in stamina and energy. However, something else that Vanyel has developed with this set of techniques is incorporating it into his martial arts -- creating his style inspired by both Northern and Southern Kung Fu styles from his homeland, China, using a variety of fast low kicks and high punches to overwhelm an opponent with ferocity, speed, and power.

  • Pillar Encircle Pattern: A defensive pattern similar to the concept of the Tai Chi Pattern, by projecting a dragon forward in the same manner as every other pattern, Vanyel can perform additional movements to direct the dragon to wrap around himself and protect him, acting as a shield that has around Advanced Durability. Furthermore, another trait that Vanyel has created from this pattern is, by twisting his hands and wrists in front of him, rather than the usual movements, Vanyel can initiate this pattern immediately, wrapping a dragon around himself without the need to projecting one out beforehand. Should the dragon be destroyed during this protective formation, it would leave him unable to utilize this pattern for two to three posts.

  • Double Dragon Dance: This is more of an additive that synchronizes with the other sub-techniques of Dragon Dance. By applying this and using up a bit more energy, Vanyel can apply this to one of the other patterns, projecting two dragons instead of one. While this gives him more overall potency when it comes to the capabilities of Dragon Dance, this causes Vanyel to lose control over the movements of the dragons when he tries to actively utilize them as an offensive maneuver. Furthermore, this is something that can only be applied twice overall before having to wait for three posts to apply again.

  • Tai Chi Pattern: A pattern that was developed from his own knowledge of Taijiquan, this derives from the movements of the martial art. Used as a defensive style, this pattern utilizes the dragon formed from Dragon Dance to mimic the physical techniques and practices of Tai Chi classics, using pivots and alternating movements to redirect attacks without directly taking the hit. However, this is extremely precise and slow compared to the rest of the sub-techniques of Dragon Dance, leading him to be prone to messing up due to the precision. But, this also leads to the biggest drawbacks, that being that speed is the biggest counter for this style. While Vanyel can use his own speed to match someone, this leads him more prone to making mistakes and often leads to this pattern being outmatched as a result.

  • Nine-Fold Dragon Array: The peak of the actual abilities for Dragon Dance, as nine is considered a "perfect" number in Chinese culture, and a dance of the full array of nine dragons is just as rare. When Vanyel taps into this ability, he is immediately engulfed in a glowing golden aura, with nine small, golden dragons floating around his body, granting him a colossal boost in speed and power, but lowering the capabilities of his base defense/Durability and the defensive potential granted to him by his powers.

    This aura and power increase lasts around three to four posts, and can only be used twice a thread. However, Vanyel must wait for four to five posts before being able to use this for a second time. Finally, while the dragons themselves are mainly for aesthetic purposes, they can come together and merge into a single, colossal golden dragon that Vanyel can fire off from his hands, far more powerful than any other dragon he can or could unleash. However, this ends the effect of the golden array immediately, should he do this, and prevent him from being able to use this for the rest of the thread.


Dragon Claws: By lining his fingers with energy, Vanyel can sharpen his nails and fingers, in general, to be able to cut through a majority of physical objects without much issue. Though this still can be effective against spiritual objects, it relies heavily on brute force to be able to break through it, rather than making it easier. Furthermore, Vanyel is also capable of projecting the energy slightly outward, having it still connected to his hands and making the claws more of extensions to his fingers, allowing for a slightly longer reach. Finally, he can use his base abilities of Dragon Heart or Dragon King's Call to infuse the elements at his disposal into his claws, allowing him to switch from specializing against physical objects to spiritual objects for three posts, before going on a four-post cooldown.

Phonoi's Powers/Abilities

Elements of the Interrogation: Throughout history, different elements have been used for the sake of extracting information out of someone, electricity in the Electric Chair, water in waterboarding, or even sound -- or lack thereof, with sensory deprivation -- in “no-touch” or sound torture. Capable of harnessing all of these “elements” of the interrogation at will, the Phonoi can use their energy and malleate it to create these effects. But, while they can utilize these to dish out as much pain as possible, there are caveats.

The first one being that they do not have a large amount of versatility and control over these elements outside of projecting them in very simple formats, one of them being the augmentation of existing elements. For example, The Phonoi would only be able to generate water, fire/heat, and electricity from their fingertips, or being able to augment the power of existing elements in a given medium, such as an Electric Chair. Furthermore, another additional drawback is that they can only utilize one element at a time, and cannot switch immediately, waiting for two to three posts before being able to change elements in combat,

Instruments: Tying into the Phonoi's theme of torture and execution is the ability to summon and utilize any form of torture equipment throughout history, generally by taking them from his Chasm Point. This often takes little to no energy to perform, as many of these instruments and devices aren't too demanding, such as saws, pliers, garotte wire, or the scold's bridle, allowing for ease of summoning, dismissal, and swapping with little to no downtime between them. However, larger devices such as the Rack, Brazel Bull, or the Iron Maiden would require far more energy, be unable to swap as easily, and have a far period of only being capable of summoning one at a time.

Bamboo Torture: A prolonged form of torture assumed to be from East and South Asia. By creating a piece of bamboo from his own energy, Vanyel must pierce a target's body before it begins to occur. The moment that it pierces a target's body, it begins to focus on feeding off the energy that said target uses and emits, as this will not only slightly weaken any attack that uses energy by 5-10%, but the percentage of energy will also go into making the piece of bamboo slowly grow inside them, causing excruciating pain and internal damage. However, should someone use an attack that uses a large amount of energy (such as a high-level Kido or general high-power attack), the bamboo is capable of draining up to 20% of the attack, causing a massive spurt in growth and causing even more damage. This ability lasts for up to five to ten posts but is offset by a very slow build-up as a result.

Stakes of Wallachia: Based on the legend of Vlad Tepes III and the twenty-thousand people he impaled and prostrated during his time as the Prince of Wallachia, Romania, this ability is reminiscent of the cruel leader. In a mile-long radius around himself, Vanyel can create up to twenty-thousand pikes with a variety of manifestation speeds, as the closer that he chooses to summon them to himself, the quicker they can appear and attack -- and, vice versa, the further away he wishes to create them, the longer it takes. These pikes do not possess a lot of destructive power on their own, but they are capable of being dismissed whenever Vanyel chooses or leaving them as physical obstructions for up to three posts.


CHASM REVIVAL

Abilities

Painless: Upon entering this form, it is practically impossible for Vanyel to feel any pain, no matter the amount of damage or type of attack, as entering this form automatically alters the way that his nerves work by numbing his sense of pain. This dulling of pain is to the extent to where he could stand in fire for hours or be pierced by a blade thousands of times without so much as flinching. However, this does not make him immune to the damage that he would take from attacks, merely making him unable to feel or react to any pain that might come.

Iron Maiden: By using their energy and creating a fifty-foot steel cage, four pools of blue energy manifest in random locations on all four sides of the cage -- though, it does not cover the entire cage and does leave room for escape, should someone be quick enough. After these pools of blue energy manifest, four enormous blades erupt from the pools, reaching across to the opposing direction they manifest in, seeking to impale everything that they come across, before vanishing along with the cage. This requires a moderate amount of energy to perform, and as such, can only be used once before needing to wait for four posts.

Paolao: The best-known creation of Daji, the malicious fox spirit. Manifesting a giant bronze pillar and hot coals along the ground in a half-mile radius, chains immediately attempt to latch onto whatever is in the radius. Should they hook onto anything, all speed-related abilities, racial, natural, and personal/unique, will all have their effectiveness halved immediately, with a gradual decrease the further the character moves from the pillar. Also, the field of coals will continue to heat up over the course of three posts, reaching their peak. The pillar and field of coals disappear after three posts.

Guillotine: In reference to the most infamous method of execution in history, this ability creates a large, curved blue blade on the side of their arm. Outside of being a method of dealing damage, the Guillotine is meant to be an ability used against defenses, and as such, is capable of breaking through them far easier, with each strike eating away at them more and more until it makes the target vulnerable. The extension of their arm is capable of lasting three posts, going on a four-post cooldown when the time expires.


POSSESSIVE DRIVE

Abilities

Herald of the Dragon God: Unlike many release forms, Vanyel's Possessive Drive is almost entirely focused on the augmentation of his existing abilities and an increase in power. Overall, due to him only having one Possessive Drive, it allows him to culminate and condense the overall power that he gains when activating the release form itself, giving him an immense amount of overall potency and power to his Possessive Powers (and overall powers), as well as drastically boosting his natural speed, strength, durability. However, the most notable and important thing about this form is, as mentioned before, the augmentations that it provides to his existing abilities, listed below.

  • Immense general power, speed, and durability increase due to condensed Possessive Drive (Based on Za Koa skill, cited from Demon Race Specs)

However, with this augmentation of his existing powers, there are two specific new additions and traits that Vanyel gains with this form. The first of these traits is the ability to summon an ornately designed sword with a specialized handle, named Dragonsbreath. The main purpose of this special handle is that, when twisted, can unleash flames along the ends of and around the entire blade, allowing for more powerful and slightly longer range attacks, releasing torrents of flames for long, wide sweeping attacks.

The final trait that this form grants him would be related to the appearance of the form itself -- the arm-like wings that not only grant Vanyel the ability to fly freely, can act as separate appendages, and can be manifested in his base state, although significantly weaker by comparison and can only last for three to four posts at a time before vanishing and waiting the same amount of time before being able to manifest again.

Abilities

Dragon’s Dream: With the mythology of his homeland and the mythology of dragons being such an integral part of his life, the appearance, and abilities of this form are all about dragons in general -- particularly, the Dragon King of the Eastern Seas, Ao Kuang. One of the main things that this grants him is the augmentation of his existing abilities, retaining the abilities True Sight, Five Forms of Immortality, and Dragon Claws (while losing all other abilities), as well as the augments that his Possessive Drive grants him.

Furthermore, acting like a colossal augmentation of his limited base ability to create and control his own created lightning within a radius, this extends the radius of the ability to two miles around him. This also has a passive trait, when this form is activated, it creates a terrible storm within a three-mile radius around him, with lightning striking indiscriminately throughout said radius. Vanyel is also able to control this and can choose to call down bolts of lightning wherever he pleases. However, he cannot control the storm itself, merely create one.

EQUIPMENT/OTHER RESOURCES



Devil’s Dagger: A weapon that Vanyel holds very close to his heart, originally a gift from the head of the yakuza family he was a part of, a tanto with an ornate design and a blade specially designed to combat against the vast amount of spiritual beings that roamed the Earth -- giving the blade a sharpness that allowed it to harm any creature that wasn't armed with defenses of its own.


Gunblades: A unique weapon that was commissioned and fashioned for him by a weaponsmith during his time in the yakuza, built from similar material as his Devil's Dagger, giving both blades of the gunblades the means to act as weapons capable of hurting spiritual beings. Furthermore, these weapons were designed to work off Vanyel's energy, using it as a basis and drawing a small, inconsequential amount to form and fashion bullets that are also capable of harming spiritual beings. However, the unique property of these rounds is that they have the ability to be charged, with Vanyel fueling more energy into the bullets to increase their destructive power. In doing so, he can give them the power comparable to a regular Cero, giving them the ability to pierce through regular physical walls without losing momentum, and giving a small damage boost as a result.



Kuro Komo: Outside of his gunblades, this is Vanyel's most notable and signature weapon. Commissioned by the same weaponsmith who made his gunblades, Kuro Komo, translating loosely to "Black Cloud," is an ebony black sword in the design of a Chinese imperial Jian with golden tertiary additions, and a notably sharp blade, that even lightly running one's finger across it can create a cut. This is because one of the most notable aspects of the weapon is the unparalleled cutting power compared to any of his weapons, capable of cutting through weak defenses of Advanced level and below, though there is a larger emphasis on physical defenses, rather than spiritual.



Knives: Outside of Kuro Komo, the biggest piece of Vanyel's arsenal is his fascination and love of knives -- something that led him to collect a large variety of different kinds of knives to have and to use in combat. Balisongs, gut knives, throwing knives, switchblades, folding knives, and countless other types of pocket knives, Vanyel has several different types of pocket knives on his person at any time, allowing him to use them for either ranged combat with throwing knives or close-quarters combat.



Kunwu: A weapon that was commissioned by the same person who made his original weaponry in the yakuza, and created with the intent of combatting against any demons that threatened his beloved, most notably Algos, should they ever were to come to blows. Named "Kunwu" after the weapon in Chinese mythology, Vanyel took inspiration for the name after the blade's moniker, 'The Demon Slayer," for its noted effectiveness against demonic creatures in the mythos. True to the title, Kunwu was specially designed by the artisan to give it the ability to fight against demonic abilities.

While it acts as a regular, albeit supernatural weapon against most other beings, whenever this blade is pitted against demons, it will almost always hold the advantage. By using it as a means of defense, Kunwu is capable of weakening and potentially even nullifying weak to mid-level demonic attacks, giving it the ability to either deflect or outright cut through them. However, it becomes far stronger when used to harm demonkind.

Even with a single strike, it is capable of dulling and weakening the flow of Za Koa and demon energy as a whole within a demon, with each strike overall being able to weak demonic abilities by up to five percent. This is primarily used to slow their regeneration and shape-shifting capabilities. While it is possible to temporarily disable it in weaker demons for one to two posts with enough strikes, it is still meant to pose a decent threat against demons of all powers and is mainly used to slow the effects and force more energy out of them.



Dragon King's Armaments: In key with his love of dragons, this pair of gauntlets and greaves boast an animalistic look, with the gauntlets meant to resemble dragon heads and the greaves to resemble the claws of a dragon. Both of these are designed to not only be effective weapons but created with a light, yet durable material to synchronize well with his martial arts. However, this comes with a unique trait, allowing him to have a further level of control over his base power, Dragon King's Call. An example of this would be storing energy within the weapon, making Vanyel capable of powerful close or ranged lightning attacks with each attack from either his hands or feet or slamming down his foot, causing a blast of electricity to arc outwards in a radius around him, along with doing damage to the environment.



Kabufuda Card Deck: A simple deck of 40 cards given to him during his time in the yakuza, capable of hybridizing into his abilities to be useful weapons. Otherwise, they are simply average playing cards.



Corrosion Cloud: Corrosion Cloud is a literal cloud of corruption. It feasts off the element of madness that brews within Vanyel's essence and manifests this aspect of himself into an ability that induces decomposition across various physical and spiritual spectrums. Hence, the control of this power is going to have to come from his mind. And it is intended to be used in the form of weaponry. Thus, it is up to Vanyel to determine the type of mass, shape, and being he wishes this weapon to be through mentally infusing his desire into the tool. From there, it is important to understand how this ability works. For the most part, Corrosion Cloud produces a metaphysical decomposition of material that it comes into contact with. For example, Vanyel can try and corrode the bonds of a master-level barrier with this weapon to create an opening for himself. This is based on the fact that the potency of this weapon is quite high when one considers Mana's own grand mastery over the demonic arts. And, being that this weapon was forged from the trait, it possesses great potential for destruction so long as Vanyel maintains his madness.

RATE OF DECAY

Non-Spiritually Enhanced Objects: Usually if they aren't protected or enhanced, Vanyel can decompose many objects within his range of effect within the same post with relatively little effort. It will still take energy from him, but it won't exhaust him too badly if it isn't spammed.

Spiritually Enhanced Objects: If the object/weapon/structure is spiritually enhanced, then he will have to continue to make multiple strikes with his weapon to corrode it. That, or he will have to weaken it through other means and wait to use Corrosion Cloud for a critical blow. I.E. wearing down something like a barrier with his other abilities and then using Corrosion Cloud to be the last strike that manages to break it. With that said, it is then important to begin to understand the range of effects of this Corrosion Cloud. It has a maximum range of one hundred meters for any sort of ability associated with it.

Other Attacks: He can influence other attacks with this ability to attempt to corrode them within the same post, but it will always take an active effort because he is fighting against other opponent's forces. Additionally, he will be limited to 1-4 usages per post based on the range of effect limitations written below this section.

Decay Of People: This ability can cause corrosion of other characters as well. However, he will have to actually figure out a way to physically touch them with his ability. This can be done when the cloud takes a weapon form. When this contact is made, he tries and corrodes one aspect of themselves at a time and he will have to actively focus on it. So, if he were able to make a direct sword strike against an opponent, and he focused on their "speed,” then this corrosion would try and decrease how fast the opponent could move to immobilize them. It can influence up to two or three factors on an opponent's ability if it strikes them directly in this form since this ability has the "1-20" meter range effect. I.E., if he were to make a second direct hit on the opponent, he could try and focus on decaying their durability to make them more prone to injury. These effects will usually clear up after the thread is over with and aren't permanent. They are temporary to try and weaken the opponent for Vanyel so he can gain an advantage.

RANGE EFFECTS

61 to 100 Meter: Extreme effort which will probably drain him in one post. He may produce one attack in this range, but it will probably induce a three post cooldown and feel as if a good deal of effort was expended to perform.

41 to 60 Meters: This is a high level of effort for Vanyel. He still can extend two attacks per post within this range, but it will leave him drained and make him feel rather exhausted. There will also be one post cool down before he can use it again.

21 to 40 Meters: This is considered a moderate effort zone for Vanyel. He'll more than likely be able to form two attacks within this range, but it will leave a noticeable form of exhaustion mentally or physically for him.

1-20 Meters: This is considered a low effort zone. Vanyel can more than likely form 2-4 attacks per post within this range.

Other Side Effects

Tethered Link To Body And Mind: While its abilities are pretty grand and potent, it won't do a whole lot of good if Van himself takes a heavy amount of damage. This is because the more his body is injured, the more complicated it becomes to properly wield it. Additionally, it will take small traces of energy away from him. So, at some point, this weapon may stop working if there is nothing for it to consume from his body. Nothing in this world comes without exchange.

Accelerating Madness: After attuning himself to this weapon, Van may find his insanity and blood lust increasing. This is because this weapon feeds off his madness and it will indefinitely increase that. So, he may find himself being lost in this new power as it seeks to make him stronger and empowered the further he uses it. If he uses it for five posts in a row, he will even activate a "Pain Burst" which lasts for two posts and increases his pain endurance to that of a master before cooling down for two posts and repeating two posts after that. Additionally, his pain tolerance should increase to advanced after this tournament as he bonds with this weapon.

The Eris Family & Dynasty: Due to his possession of the Seal of Eris, Vanyel is naturally in-tune with the others who carry the Seal, as well as those who are part of the Eris Dynasty, as well as being able to communicate with them through the Seal in a “private” mental connection, should he ever need to.



Ties to the Yakuza: Despite the Kudo-kai clan having disbanded years ago, Vanyel still holds some level of ties to not only the boss and head of the clan but also to his brothers that have scattered across the world. He doesn’t keep in direct or consistent contact with them, but all of them are more than aware that they are alive and well. Above all, they are people he can rely on more than most others for information, camaraderie, and secretly, for nostalgia.



Chasm Point - Tartarus: Named after the prison of the Titans in Greek mythos, The Phonoi's Chasm Point generally takes the form of a torture room. the most basic form of this is a simple, medium-sized room covered in gray. Tables and drawers with various torture equipment line the walls and corners of the room, with a single chair in the center, and a smaller table for tools next to it. However, one of the key traits of their Chasm Point is the natural, near-absolute control that the Phonoi has over the shape, size, and appearance, allowing them to change the appearance of the Chasm Point as they wish, as well as shifting around the rooms and overall structure as they please.

Generally, there are other beings within this world that the Phonoi uses for his own amusement, using the countless types of equipment and tools that he has present within the Chasm Point. Additionally, another function that it serves is acting as storage for Vanyel's equipment and belongings when he cannot carry them, which the Phonoi often creates an isolated room as storage for them, separate from the rest of the Chasm Point. Furthermore, as detailed before, the different types of torture equipment here is where the Phonoi's ability "Instruments" is tied to, as they draw their equipment from their Chasm Point.

  • Storage: These realms can be used to store high volumes of Oorja Aura, different types of NPC's, equipment, and other similar things. So that can be a primary function of these Chasm Points depending on how the character wants to use them.

  • EXP Training Boost: Chasm Points are the perfect place to refine one’s Oorja and increase one’s strength if one has The Seal Of Eris. If one were to perform extensive training within a Chasm Point, they could see accelerated gains in strength because this realm is enriched and empowered by Eris's power. Of course, this would have to be in the thread.

  • Summoning: Chasm Points can also be partially summoned within a thread. Usually, the amount of their chaotic realms that can be summoned varies. 0-2's would be able to summon potentially a thousand meters or more of their realm if pushed, while 4 tiers would be restricted to around a city block level. They can also summon different types of familiars, equipment, energy, and other types of elements from their realms in the thread as well.

  • Creation: Generally, most people who have the Seal Of Eris can generate their own pocket realm. This size can be varied on the amount of Madness that brews within them. There are exceptions to the rule, but generally, this is more so in a tier. So, the bigger the tier, the bigger the realm unless there are external circumstances that help increase the potency of their madness/chaos, or Eris/Mana allows them more space. With that said, a 0-2 could potentially create a realm that is roughly the size of a small country; while a 4 tier may potentially be able to create something that is roughly Multi-City Block level. So keep this in mind when describing their NPCs, what is stored within the realm, its effects, and so on. And also keep in mind Mana can enhance your realm potentially and make expansions depending on how the thread goes if you RP with her.

  • Mass NPC's: There should be other NPC's ranging in the hundreds of thousands to choose from for him to control.
