It was difficult, to put things very lightly, to deal with the emotional weight on Katya's shoulders after Atlas' trek to the highlands. One could feasibly argue that she didn't have as much room to be distressed as Atlas or Nazariy, given they were the ones actually bedridden by their injuries, but it was important to consider her perspective. Both the man she loved and her closest living family were in a rather critical state, and she could do little but hope that they would be alright, ensure the clan that her uncle was far stronger than to die from this, and that the Hound of the Caucasus had certainly been through far worse.

It was good, then, that such strong belief carried weight in these highlands.

With each passing day, both Atlas and Nazariy healed remarkably well. Miraculously so, one might even say. But Katya never faltered in her care regardless. When Atlas had finally stabilized, it had been her natural reaction to scold him, and and even to this point she had hardly given him much time to talk. Any conversation was, at most, fussing over him, or reminding him that he had very nearly died. But it was a new day today. Perhaps she'd be a bit more amenable as she brought in a meal.

"Good morning, Atlas."

Atlas had been in a state of near death in his last battle, perhaps even past it. The fact he lived and drew breath on this day was truly a miracle. Although what was not was the constant berating Katya had decided to give him, in truth he deserved it. His reckless actions nearly had taken his own life and surely damaged a man of great importance to her. However, he was merely glad to be alive and able to spend time with her as she nursed him back to health.

On this day she seemed to have calmed down a bit, or at least more willing to talk. As he slowly shifted up in the bed he offered a weak smile to her. "Good morning, Katya. All is well?" He'd inquire about the general state of affairs, having not had much interaction with people. But he looked to be in dramatically better spirits and health today. Waiting for her to set down the meal he'd swing his legs over the bed with some degree of pain.

"I am sorry, you know."

Oh, how positively angry she was at him. How absolutely furious that he had been so stupid, put himself at such tremendous risk, and for what? Just to prove something that she already knew? Setting his meal down, she took a deep breath to calm herself, looking to Atlas with a glare that could have slain lesser men.

"Yes, all is well. And yes, you ought to be quite sorry."

Crossing her arms, Katya's gaze trailed to one side. She found it so difficult to stay angry with him, even after he'd done something so unspeakably idiotic. How...frustrating.

"...What do you intend to do now, Atlas?"

She asked a good question, one which he had not been able to address until now. Through a softly pained expression, baring a smile mind you, he griped his waist beginning to sit up more. Until the covers which protected his hardened body from the elements fell. His wounds having nearly healed but leaving much of his body still bandaged. He offered unto her a genuine smile as he removed his from his torso reaching to take her own in the softest of motions.

"I did not come all this way to merely fluff my pride." He'd inform her as his callous and bandaged fingers would caress her own. The hardened skin of a short, but hard, life on display. His unkempt black hair dangling now towards his shoulders in a display he'd rarely have in her presence. "My, dearest, Katya I intend to ask for your hand in marriage. To marry you, and make a family, if you would have this man."

Despite his appearance his words portrayed all the grace and elegance that he was known for. Years of etiquette drilled into precision, even for an affair this personal. If he wasn't bed ridden he'd present a ring, but for now he could only offer his thoughtful remarks.

"I know that I have not always been the most moral of man. And I know, that, I have lived in the shadows of giants before me whom I may never match. Yet, I speak true when I say that no other has changed me more than you have."

He opened his mouth once more, as if to add more, before closing it. It would be unseemly to ramble, as he awaited her response with the dignity of a soldier.

Of course that was his intention in coming. Did he think she had not known? For what other reason would a man who had taken her heart come to challenge the elders? She knew the traditions, knew keenly what this had entailed. She was thoroughly angry, and ultimately, perhaps it was not toward anyone in particular. It was simply a matter of the situation, she supposed.

"What would you intend, were we to marry? Would we be wedded, and yet separated by miles? Are we to raise a family across two continents? You know that I would be overjoyed to be your wife, to bring up children alongside you. But am I to do so away from you? Away from my home?"

Katya was not angered with him, or even really upset as she posited these questions. She knew it was unfair to truly impose upon him, that it would be wrong of her to ask that he change his life so completely for her sake. She would not do that, but she would not abandon her own duties, either.

In truth he expected a reaction like this, it would be foolish not to think such. But in the moment he wished that he did not need to address it, for the chance of failure in this endeavor increased. When the idealism of the world clashed with the reality, it could often be soul crushing. Yet, he would need to push onward if he wished for a favorable out come.

"Had this been four hundred years ago, or even more, I'd believe such a thing to be damning." He'd invoke as he sat upwards, his mixed eyes staring at her with all the assuredness a man could muster. "But we live in the present, where I may still uphold my duties, and your own, without another giving them up." He'd comment as his gaze went towards a nearby window, to observe the wintery snow outside. There was a logic here, but she may not agree.

"Vastime commands vast resources, the ability for me to stay away from the capital and nation since the war ended showcases I do not need to be there in presence." He'd explain. "I do not see a reason I cannot stay here, and depart as required. Many of my obligations can be handled through communication channels, or if the need arises a teleportation system." He'd pause.

"But, in truth, such a life would not be easy for either of us. I may find myself here for months at a time, living peacefully, before an emergency recalls me to Vastime. Such an event, like a war, would see me depart for unknown periods of time. Perhaps even to my death. I will not lie to you, and speak as if- all shall be tranquil and peaceful." He waited for but a moment, before turning his eyes to her.

"It may be a difficult life, but I thing it far superior than a life without each other. I think the hurdles, we may encounter, shall pale in comparison to the strife we'd feel should we choose not to pursue this path."

He didn't need to say it. But no road worth traveling was ever easy.

It was simply the man he had become, Katya supposed. Even if he was still that very same warrior she had met all those years ago, there was an optimism that she could not say she was fully used to from him. Katya was rather taken by it, even if it was...peculiar.

"Atlas, you know quite well that I would a;ways have accepted my husband might live a life of danger, might spend months or even years on campaign. If that is all that I am to worry about, then I should think as a woman of the highlands, it is not a grave concern."

If Katya had any particular reservations, it did not seem to matter much to her. Right now, she was simply delaying the inevitable; actually answering his question. Taking a breath to compose herself, Katya looked Atlas in the eye, a small smile on her face.

"Very well. I will marry you, Atlas."

He expected perhaps he would jump for joy upon hearing the words, but instead she received that muted smile of which he was known for. The Hound of the Caucas may hold a new outlook on life, a man in the midst of forging his own destiny, but he was still at his core a reserved man. Instead he gave her hands the faintest of squeezes of reassurance, for there was no amount of words he could craft which would impart his feelings. In his most private of moments, he would rate this as perhaps one of the highlights of his strifeful lifetime.

As he sat there in silence taking in the words, he closed his eyes. As if to shut out the world for a moment, to merely think with her here. A deep rising of his chest, before it fell slowly. Once he opened his eyes, he looked to her. This was the man whom she had grown to love, steady in all he was and committed. A man of burdens whom in this union would need to learn to be a husband, and the struggles which came with that.

"It will not be, easy. I know nothing of how to manage a home. I did not expect to ever have to. My fear is that in that endeavor, I may fail you, Katya." His words where soft spoken, a smooth tenor which conveyed some measure of weakness. While he had her promise, some part of him wondered his ability. Unlike his King, or others of his peerage, he was still learning how one was to be human.
