A freespirit at heart. Sophie comes from a very remote family where her world was very small, throughout her life she tried to be satisfied with the humble life she lead with her family but it was not possible, this is the reason she left home at a few months before her brother became involved in an incident that turned him into a substitute shinigami. Regardless, she can be called quite selfish in her ambitions and strives to find her own way in the world while expanding the size of the world she knew.
Her inquisitive nature is often something that can be praised due to her willingness to investigate of her own accord but can land her in hotwater when she gets ahead of herself. She has had her superior often complain that she is prone to read reports not relevant to her or listen into meetings she is not needed to be in. Sophie is sincere about acknowledging she is often in the wrong in these circumstances though it is part of her stubborn nature that she doesn't try to change.
Growing up in Shadow Fall controlled Europe, one would expect that Sophie views them in a negative light. This is not exactly true since she possesses animosity towards those that try to enforce their own beliefs and values on others, especially on those of less power who can't resist. Her own freespirited nature comes into clash with the idea of oppression and restriction of one's autonomy. She does not consider race as a metric to base prejudice off, rather the actions of that person and those they have associated with.
She is quite intelligent, in an analytical capacity it is easy for her to breakdown information and process. Esoterical science nonsense falls short on her though Sophie is incredibly good at reading a person's emotions and body langauge. People often complain that she appears to mindread sometimes by her ability to apply abductive reasoning. Sophie has been referred to as a prodigy and peculiarity due to the fact she was neither born a Quincy but took such little time to train into it and still reach the level she has in only a few years--she takes great offence to being called one though since she feels it downplays all the work she put in to get there.
Sophie is capable as a teacher and administrator hence her position in Albedochiffren, she will often manage some classes in the teaching of Quincy arts to people who desire to pursue them and deal with administration aspects of the Vandenreich. Particularly in diplomacy, internal affairs and resource management. It is not uncommon that she will work with the Sternritter division and she does not have much qualms about going onto a battlefield.
Sophie comes from France, particularly a remote area of France that her family set up to live in many years before her since they longed for a simple life. While never isolated she felt the weight of her tiny world on her shoulders a lot which conflicted with her inquisitive nature. She loved to play and interact with her brothers, being the only girl though besides her mother did weigh on her a bit.
She would often get into scuffles with her brothers while trying to playfight with them. Not caring about the fact she was a petite little girl, she lived pretty uneventfully up until the day her brother had a close call with death. Alastor's transition into Substitute Shinigami left their family one short, she knew she should be sad but she thought she could get some of the limelight now that one of her two brothers were off elsewhere. It did not. Her brother still ignored her for the most part and she grew bored, envious that Alastor was allowed to go off and enjoy himself and the world at large while she was just stuck here.
It is because of that she ran away. Travelling and getting out and about, seeing the world for what it really was. It was all so thrilling and eventually she was even able to make her way to America. She liked it here, there was something exciting and really enjoyable about the fact she was on the other side of the world than where she had been for all her life in her tiny box.
When World War Four happened though it was striking, she was saved multiple times by the intervention of the Vandenreich and the Gotei United, so much so that she felt compelled to enlist and insist on showing her appreciation to the group that had saved her through the troubled times.
Sophie thrived in the Vandenreich, she spent only a couple of months in her transition to a Quincy which was unnatural. Her hyperspecialisation in the Quincy Spellcraft field and ability to dedicate herself made her rise up. Eventually settling as a member of a division within Albedochiffren where she could put her head to good use in the management of the organisation.
She skirted the line between outstanding and general, a promotion could be given to her but she didn't take it. For lack of a better word, she was content where she was in her situation. Her life in the City of Lights and the way she had developed, the work she did, the things she had seen in the world. For Sophie that was enough. Without the hotheaded temperment, she might like to settle down and just live comfortably for the rest of her life while doing her job.
NATURAL ATTRIBUTESReishi Spellcraft:
Sophie is quite proficient at controlling particles and applying the energy to kickstart her spells. She will often apply this through her spirit weapon to achieve much greater potency attacks through mixing her two proficencies. She is notably able to ignite reishi which she is particularly skilled at due to her family trait that bleeds into her Quincy skills. She refers to this as Sprengschlüssel [German for "Explosive Key"], wherein she grasps reishi in her hand or from afar and causes it to ignite. It requires finesse though as she can hurt herself in the explosion if she is not careful and tries to apply it in close range.
Additionally she can utilise barriers, creating them by calling the reishi in front of her. Mixing this attribute with her spirit weapon can allow for her to weaponise them, such as creating structures of reishi inside one's body and skewer them or make use of Sprengschlüssel to immolate them. Her spells extend to applying concepts such as trapping a target in reishi applying a solvent-like effect which can burn and in extreme cases cause their body to dissolve similar to being doused in potent acid.
She is capable of using spells up to the level of Ransotengai and Hirenkyaku, even having changed and modified the latter to achieve unique occurances such as leaving behind shells of reishi which can be mistaken for her. Her ransotengai usage is impressive for her age but Sophie only has partial usage of it though that partial usage has been personalised, such as only being able to apply it to her arm but still be capable of shedding the spell and applying it to a target's body to temporarily bind part of them.
Ginto are within her field of practice and something she often makes usage of due to her small amount of spiritual energy that she has at her disposal. She will usually carry a decent amount on her person to supplement her overall capability.Boiling Blood:
Her family trait that labelled her as a supernatural human before she became a quincy. Her family's ability stems from their energy having a certain heat to it. It can feel incredibly hot and be difficult to be within if the target is significantly weaker than her own power. The important thing to note is though that this is not directly an effect caused from her energy, the phenomenon can be transferred to her energy and reishi as a medium. This heat is closer to something based off their mentality and will, this is why a lot of the de Maris tend to be hot-headed, these psychological traits are very important to make the heat effect become stronger, otherwise it doesn't develop as fast and only relies on getting stronger by the user's body being worked and strengthened through exertion and effort.
Due to suppresing her hotheaded temper, Sophie's Boiling Blood is particularly weak unless she is really riled up by something. Even so, she has not really put much focus into developing it.
Freikugeln [German for "Free Bullets"].Appearance:
Freikugeln is the name of Sophie's spirit weapon and something she has tried to capture her essence perfectly to reflect in her weapon. A flexible tool that is free and deadly while allowing for creative uses. In its sealed form Freikugeln takes the appearance of a handful of ballbearings that she keeps in her pocket.
Each ball is essentially a receptor to pull in spiritual particles when she releases it which causes them to glow and be telekinetically under her command. Using her control of spiritual particles she is able to change the shape of them, often taking the form of a flock of birds if she uses them in this manner. The primary usage though is to just use the cluster of floating spheres as bullets to move around and attack people while being receptors for her other spiritual abilities to channel through.Abilities:
Sophie's abilities with her Freikugln is more to act as receptors for her spellcraft rather than be incredible in their own right. Besides being small and able to function as bullets which fly around her as a group of tiny deadly projectiles that carry enough velocity to justifiably thought to have been shot from a gun.
Due to focusing so much on the actual spellcraft of the field, Sophie has never actually settled to develop her Vollstandig at all. She can be considered to be Untrained when it comes to actually using the release form attached to Quincy Spellcraft.
