» Name: Kaminari Hatakeyama
» Alias: None, yet.
» Age: 257
» Birthday: August 6, 1865
» Gender: Female
» Height: 5’3”
» Weight: ~115
» Association: Gotei United
» Appearance Written: Kaminari looks like the picture to the left. Other than that, she has a wicked scar that she keeps hidden on her left hip that looks like she was nearly bisected.
» Personality: Kaminari comes off as easily approachable because of her petite and nonthreatening appearance, habit of constantly smiling, and ability to hide things that bother her. To some, she may seem too friendly, almost annoyingly so. This is because she is somewhat of a people pleaser. Even if she is worked too hard, she has a hard time telling someone no. She does this out of a desire to make as many friends as possible and fit in with everyone she meets.
To Kaminari, being unhappy is a waste of time, so she refuses to do it, if she can help it. She is honest to a fault, not caring about tiny lies, but honest with anything that ‘matters.’ However, what ‘matters’ to her is often strange to others. She has childish tendencies that do create an air of immaturity, or even stupidity, around her, but she is far from unintelligent. This clash in her behavior throws some people off, but she is trying her best to come to terms about being herself.
Kaminari has a strongly rooted fear of being alone. The people pleasing and desire for friends stems from this. This fear comes from the years of darkness that create an extensive gap in her memory and the confusion created because of it. She feels lost in the world and she believes that finding friends will keep her grounded. When alone, she chooses to train or spend time in the kitchen. Cooking and baking calm her down and keep her focused. She’s proud to say she’s a good cook.
Life Before Death: (1865-1882)
Born at the end of the Edo Period, Kaminari’s childhood was filled with war and political changes that left her little more than a wandering urchin. Her father disappeared, leaving her with only her family name. When she was thirteen, she woke to her mother’s screams and their home on fire. She was unable to find her mother in the chaos and was pulled from the fire by a neighbor who saw the blaze. Her mother died that night, leaving Kaminari alone. For the next four years, she struggled. She relied on what little her neighbors could give to survive. When she was seventeen, she fell ill and no one had the means to help her. Though she was sheltered, medicine was hard to find. The fever killed her in her sleep.
Surviving the Rukongai: (1882-1902)
As one of the “lucky” ones to remember their life in the world of the living, the Rukongai was a disappointment. The lies promised to people about the afterlife were no less than a slap in the face. Instead, Kaminari was met with a place that was little more than the slums of Kyoto. As she traveled closer to the large white wall, the quality of life increased somewhat, but not enough to help. She was told that beyond the wall was a city of shinigami who protected the realms with powers that she could barely imagine. Becoming one was a mixture of luck and skill. The only hint she had that it was possible for her was that, unlike a lot of the soul population, she found herself in need of sustenance, a hard to find resource.
The years in the Rukongai were not kind. She had friends come and go. Some of them died, others moved on, and very few signed up for the Shinigami Academy. For a while, Kaminari was part of a gang of thieves that ran a small area in one of the outer districts. They weren’t mean, but they guiltlessly stole food from those who didn’t require it. After a while, they were caught and arrested. However, they took note of Kaminari’s energy levels and made her a deal. Instead of going to jail, she could join the Academy and become a member of the Gotei. There was little to say afterwards. The Gotei was her goal and this was an easy in. She agreed to the deal. Within the week, Kaminari was enrolled at Shinigami Academy.
The Starting Years: (1902-Early 2000s)
Six years of study and training transformed Kaminari into a different person. She was stronger, faster, and had a deeper respect for the Soul Cycle and those who protect it. She made sure to make a few friends, some of which she went on to work with. Her proudest achievement was excelling in all of her kido classes. She always end up at the top for efficiency and accuracy, and she was scouted by the Kido Corps before graduating. When she did graduate, Kaminari joined the Fifth Division as a regular member. She had little ambition beyond doing her job, so she was content to live out her days patrolling and having a better life than she previously had. She even had a since of pride that she did this herself.
The Years are a Bit Fuzzy: (2000s - ????)
Kaminari was not normally interested in gaining more status, but when things in the Gotei darkened, she started paying more attention. Betrayals, strangers, old monsters rising from the shadows, the appearance of other races that had not previously been in the spotlight all encouraged Kaminari’s training. But this is where it all gets fuzzy. It’s like her brain was pulled apart and rapidly thrown back together without much care. She remembers parts of names, pieces of events, drops of emotion. She sees quick glimpses of those she may have once even loved, but faces are blurred, voices faded, and she swears there was a damn dragon and a blade that shined like the sun. She won, or she at least thinks she did.
But this was… a long time ago…???
The Current Years: (????-Present)
For a while, Kaminari wandered the world of the living, unsure of exactly where she belonged. Every now and then, she returns to the Soul Society to see what has become of it, but never truly felt connected. Out of boredom and curiosity, she finally decided to take the chance and rejoin the Gotei United in the last year. She stayed as a regular member for a while, successfully regaining shikai, so when a spot in the Kido Corp opened up, she applied for Vice-Captain. She already proved her skill with kido, so that was not coming into question. It was her childish nature that caused concern about whether she was right for the job. She shrugs them off and sticks her tongue out in their general direction.
» Natural Abilities:
Fractured Memory: It’s happened before, it’ll likely happen again. Kaminari’s memory was wiped. Why? This time, she doesn’t know. Last time it was her own abilities, which have once again been dampened due to the loss.
Muscle Memory: A portion of Kaminari’s abilities are dictated by muscle memory. It’s going to take time for things to come back to her. She’s regaining some memory over time and through through intense training, but it’s slow going.
Weirdly Observant: Kaminari is just a really observant person. She catches onto things quicker than most expect, and has already noticed your attractions to hot guy #3. Luckily, she’s not the type to spread gossip like that.
Impressively Dexterous: Agile, flexible, swift, and graceful. These are all things Kaminari has trained her body to be. She can bend like a gymnast and has the reflexes of a frightened fly. These are abilities she might be a bit proud of.
» Racial Abilities:
Kido Master: Kaminari used to be a true master of kido, but that is currently lost in her memories. Just because they are lost, doesn’t mean they’re gone. Along with her muscle memory, she is slowly regaining the skill and knowledge she once had before. She does this, not only through training, but through constant patrol missions she takes every moment she can. And if a big threat comes about, she uses that as a chance to push her kido to the limits. Way back when, Kaminari was actually known as a prodigy of kido. Though she doesn’t remember, others might. Currently, she has the ability to cast 90% of kido, excluding forbidden, personal, or secret ones. She can cast 65% of kido without incantation and is even known for using two-fold and spoken-after incantations. Due to this natural skill, and what seems to be coming back to her memory better than anything else, this is her preferred way of fighting.
Martial Elite: As a diligently trained individual, Kaminari has risen back to her old standards of Martial Skill. This is her second preference for entering combat, but it did not come to her as easily as kido. Martial techniques were where she focused her training, repeatedly injuring herself, and falling to the dirt to get back to where she felt comfortable in her own body. Kaminari has demonstrated a deadly capability with her Martial skill and has perfected her technique. Kaminari uses her fists more than a weapon. She focuses on styles that allow for more fluid or “dance” type movements, such as Aikido. However, she stops using these non-lethal attacks and changes to Taekwondo when needed. Kaminari has even created a style of martial arts that focuses on quick footwork, evasion, with the combination of powerful kicks. Other than that, if she must use a weapon, she focuses on adept kendo techniques with a combination of zanjutsu.
Hoho Minimalist: Every ounce of Kaminari’s Hoho skill is focused on mastering shunpo. She doesn’t dabble in all the other pieces of this particular art. She has pushed herself to reaching the upper echelons of shunpo usage. If she forced herself at any point, she could probably mimic a poor example of some of the simpler advanced Hoho techniques, but she’d likely fail. However, her skill with shunpo is accurate and efficient, as she is with all of her other techniques.
Hakuda Novice: The art of using energy through your body to pull of powerful martial techniques! This is one aspect of Kaminari’s skill that has sort of remained lost in some page of her past. She can still pull basic moves off, but anything special or unique to herself is gone. She has no grasp of anything like shunko either, and may not be aware the technique exists yet. She’ll either have to be reintroduced or retrained in this style in order to reach her old skill.
Zanjutsu: As this is the skill that governs zanpakuto ability, Kaminari has chosen to focus a lot of her training here as well. When she first started getting her memory back, she had no shikai and could barely hear her zanpakuto spirit speak to her. Now, she has her shikai and is able to converse just fine. However, she is still learning to control and enhance her shikai to the degree she finds it effective. Because her zanpakuto spirit seems to remember more about her than she remembers about herself, there is this divide between them that causes argument.
» Zanpakutō Name: Kiyohana (白華, White Flower)
» Zanpakutō Spirit: Kiyohana is a princess-looking young woman with short white hair, green eyes, and a timid personality. She is slender, of average height, and has the gentle demeanor of doe grazing in spring time.
» Inner World: This is massive library with thousands of books. Each book is filled with thoughts, memories, desires, and everything else that makes Kaminari who she is. Even when her memories are lost, they can be found here among the piles of fallen shelves that have not been reorganized since the first mind wipe.
» Sealed Zanpakutō Appearance: It’s a plainly decorated katana, with a nice, but basic appearance. It has a dark blue sheath, a silver guard, and a black handle.
» Shikai Release Phrase: Neutralize.
» Shikai Release Action: N/A. Just the phrase.
» Shikai Appearance: A faint white glow surrounds the blade.
» Shikai Abilities: This shikai allows Kaminari to use her katana to neutralize energy-based abilities, such as kido, cero, and anything else made out of energy. When an ability made out of energy, such as a barrier, healing spell, or kido, makes contact with the blade, the energy within that ability is cut off, causing the ability to fail. In most cases, the energy will vanish, but in some other effects may occur. The sword cuts a person like normal, not affecting their energy. Her shikai can be outdone by those who abilities outclasses her skill with zanjutsu. Those with higher tier, therefore higher energy levels, have the ability to overwhelm her neutralization.

» Roleplay Sample: Somewhat out of breath, Kaminari laid on her back and stared at the sky. A bead of sweat trickled down her cheek. "Not enough." she said as she forced herself back to her feet. "If I'm not sweatin', I'm not stoppin'!" Kaminari punched at the air a few times, hyping herself up, before getting back into position. Taking up her stance once more, she started again. This time, she began with two and counted up five times. She got up to four and kept going until she counted up seven more. Every time she got to ten, she told her self to move faster, to check her footwork, to focus harder, and to just keep going.
After thirty minutes of nonstop hand-to-hand training, Kaminari ended up on her butt, her back, and her stomach. Her wrists were bruised, the skin red from splintering the worn down wood. She had a scrape on her jaw and a bruise on her back, but she kept going until she was completely out of breath. On the last round, she ended up on her side as one of the wooden arms swung around and clocked her one in the side of the head. "Ow..." she whined and used the blurred vision as a reason for taking a needed five-minute break. Her face, hair, and shirt had a thick layer of sweat. Her uniform was covered in dirt, and she wasn't done.

- Initial Check:
Currently, she has the ability to cast all known kido, excluding ones that are personally created or secretly owned
Martial Elite: The title may say one thing, but like with her skill and knowledge of kido, a good fraction of what Kaminari used to know for her Martial Skill has been lost. Though this is her second preference for combat, it does not come to her as easily as kido does. Instead, this is the art that Kaminari chooses to train the most and has demonstrated a deadly capability with it. She works to perfect her Martial Skill in the same way she does her kido. Currently, this skill sits at equal with a weaker lieutenant or high seated officer. Over time, this will rise back to her told standards. Kaminari uses her fists more than a weapon. She focuses on styles that allow for more fluid or “dance” type movements, such as Aikido. However, she stops using these non-lethal attacks and changes to Taekwondo. If she must use a weapon, she focuses on basic kendo techniques with a combination of zanjutsu.
This description reads in contrast to the skill level you've assigned and the Martial Skill description for this level. The areas that stand out as contradictory are high-lighted. These areas indicate that she should be lower and work back up rather than at the peak of what you'd expect before an individual begins to get into the "transcending" their limit and breaking into the levels where the revered masters sit.
Elite Martial Skill: At this level a character most certainly has achieved mastery of multiple different fighting styles, whether those are martial arts or their own completely unique school at this level. Marksmanship is at a point where with the proper weapon, a marksman could begin to make shots that border on surreal to others such as ricocheting bullets to make impossible shots.
Hoho: Would be adept based on this description. Adept is proficiency in the basic shunpo whereas an Advanced user shouldn't be failing at the simpler advanced techniques. That would be an Adept user trying to kick higher than their ballpark.
Bankai: Since she has adept zanjutsu, please take this out and apply for it as an upgrade at a later date when it's more appropriate.
That's all I have to say in this grading.
