Eyes on the Prize [Natasha, Edelo]
Sat Feb 18, 2023 12:24 am
Whew.
What a few months it had been. Edelo had to admit, he knew that he'd be training a lot now that he had a purpose behind his fighting. It was only natural. Sure he'd trained before, but that was mostly a reclusive practice, sometimes with one of the other village guard, but never regularly. And well, it was very different. The Vandenreich had it';s own methods, and well... mostly those alligned with Quincy. So he did feel at times a bit out of place. Not to mention a little outmatched. The ability for quincy to pull in reishi was something rather amazing, even with his own unique skills it was a bit insane how they could just pull weapons out of thin air.
He was already peeling a few bandages off. Having taken a little trip to the medical bay afer a particularly rough spar. But now he felt practically brand new! IT was amazing what kind of medical tech and abilities some of them had. With his shirt tucked under his arm at the edge of the training area, he couldn't help but look off in the distance. There was nobody in the room with him, but well..he couldn't really resist peering into the adjacent training areas, and seeing the other Vandenreich members training. Some in groups, others alone. Everyone was working really hard after the Kurosaki incident. IT was a little impressive. He could only hope that e could keep up.
He was so lost in his thoughts, that he didn't even notice the slight shift in spiritual pressure that came with someone walking into the training area he'd been in.

NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
What a few months it had been indeed. Even now, Natasha was still trying to make sense of everything that transpired. Thankfully, she'd moved past that initial sense of dread she felt when she returned, but that didn't exactly stop that familiar sense of fear from rearing it's lousy ole' head. On top of that, quite a series of missions had hit her plate like a tidal wave, taking her further away from the city she'd come to call home. Now that most of that had died down, she didn't want to play the distance game any longer. She wanted to support her peers directly again.
Thus, she'd taken an all or nothing approach as of late. Training. Studying. Experimenting with new techniques, looking to grow a little stronger each day. That's what a true soldier was about, after all. After overlooking and greeting her fellow peers, she decided to engage in a little training herself - that was, until her eyes locked onto the familiar ole' village boy Edelo. They met once before, she recalled, reflecting on the teasing in particular.
All things, considered, he was a well-meaning young man with a good heart, and his head in the right place. From the looks of it, he looked as if he'd already engaged in his fair share of trainin'. Of course, unable to resist the urge to distract him, if only for a light kick, she sashayed toward him, waving in his general direction.
"Yoo-hoo~ Long time no see, Edelo. My, you look like you've been hard at work in this lil' ole' trainin area' covered in all' thos' bandages'. Mighty fine' sight seein' a man workin' on honin' his craft. Remember me, darlin~?"
Yeah. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks. She simply couldn't contain herself He's just the unfortunate target today~

Edelo almost JUMPED when that voice caught him off guard and his head snapped in NAtasha's direction only to- ah, so thats what her lungs look like. GAH! HE blinked rapidly and cleared his throat as he promptly got up to his feet. "Coordinator Miller. It's good to see you again!" He promptly rattled off. Offering a salute. Certainly it had been a bit strange finding out that the playful woman he'd met in the park was a Sternritter Coordinator. Strange indeed. But for the time being it worked out, and he offered a sheepish smile to the woman.
"Y-yes. I remember. I was actually about to get warmed up for a few exercises. Uhm... did you need something?" He asked with a tilt of his head, still blinking a few times as he kept his attention squarely on her face. It had been..... hard adjusting being around so many people with his particular abilities. But he had sortof gotten a strategy down, mainly trying to focus on the face and the eyes specifically. It definitely wasn't how he was raised, staring someone in the eyes was a little...intense. But it kept his focus from wandering and accidentally checking someone out. Which he definitely wanted to avoid now that he realized Miss Miller was a superior. Even if she WAS only one in another branch. She still was a powerful member of the Vandenreich, and certainly a woman to respect.

NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
Coordinator Miller, eh? While that did sort of have a nice superior-like ring to it, Natasha wasn't particularly the type to expect anyone to address her so formally, and she wasn't going to hold him to that standard. Even so, it was a little endearing to see him address her like a soldier. Waving a hand in casual dismissal, the coordinator chuckled softly.
"At ease, soldier. Coordinator Miller's got a mighty fine ring to it, but I ain't the type for all the formality. Natasha's plenty alright with me. Hell, Nat if ya want somethin' that rolls off the tongue a little quicker'. "
Natasha turned her head, observing the training area before her gaze settled on the young man once more. She had intended to do some solo training herself, but most of the other rooms had been occupied - by groups or singular people who weren't particularly lookin' for a dance partner.
"Well, I was aimin' to indulge in a lil' trainin. Brush up on my skills, so to speak. What type of exercises were you lookin' to work on, sweetheart~?" She asked - her voice half playful, half inquisitive.

"Natasha it is." He noted promptly, his voice firming a little. Frankly, his first thought was that he wasn't going to just say Nat, that felt disrespectful and his tongue hardly needed any rest to go abbreviating anything. Which he ALMOST said out loud, but thankfully he wasn't THAT stupid. As she went on to ask about what he was going to be practicing he paused and looked to the nearby console.
"Oh! Well uh... I was going to check the catalogue. I'm still getting used to all this ... technology. Some of the practice dummies can be fitted with AI and I was going to try them out. Not exactly the same as fighting a real hollow, but uh, well I figured it wouldn't hurt." He pointed out. Certainly Steingruft had been at work since the Kurosaki incident to help the Vandenreich train up, especially now that they worked so close to Soul Reapers these days. Supposedly there was even going to be AI calibrated to fight like shinigami after having seen so many shinigami fighters at the arena. But well, that was just a rumor for the time being.

NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
Natasha could hardly contain her mirth observing Edelo stumble through his words. He was a good young man, and she felt that humorous pang of guilt at teasing him whenever the opportunity presented itself. After he agreed to call her Natasha, she decided to reel in that playful charm, listening to him speak about his intentions in the training area. Tilting her head towards the console, she nodded along.
That's right. There had been a subdivision in the Albedochifferen working on advancing the technology of the Vandenreich, that they might be better prepared in the future to overcome stronger obstacles. Course, no simulation would ever match the real thing, as Edelo alluded to, but at least it prepared one well enough.
Moreover, browsing through info to keep herself up to date, she'd found that the Steingruft was headed by her pal, Ehefera. Ah, heffy. She'd needed to catch up on lost time with the girl, all things told. That could wait for another day or two, though. She'd come to get some training in herself. Maybe they can try this new tech out together? Worth a shot.
"Got room for one more, then, darlin~? I'm tryin' to get adapted to all these' advancements myself. It'd be quite nice to get familiar with it. Plus, ya' get a training partner'."

Re: Eyes on the Prize [Natasha, Edelo]

Edelo blinked, surprise crossing his features as the woman made such an offer and immediately he did feel a bit of tension up his spine. He had been nervous enough fighting in the arena, but training beside a Coordinator seemed a bit much! "Oh, of course! The more the merrier! I uh, hope you don't mind that they won't be very strong. I still need to finish warming up." He pointed out as he rose up to his feet and took a moment to glance at his phone. Scrolling through the options through he app that had been provided. He frowned, making ... a bit of a face as he took a few tries to remember the password before finally a little hum sounded and the tech lit up.
"There we go! Alright. A warmup. Uhm.... let's see...." HE murmureda s the area round them slowly shimmered. Reishi being being vented from storage containers and slowly solidifying into a large maze of walls, cover, and hovering platforms all around them. All the while, clouds of reishi congealed in the four corners of the room. Spawning areas for the enemies themselves.
Edelo took a moment to lightly roll his shoulders and let out a little whew, flexing his fingers, and trying his best to keep his focus as his reiryoku flared briefly, sending a little pulse of energy through his body, reinforcing himself as he hopped from foot to foot.
It was then that the hollows began to take form. Twisted monsters slithering into existence. These simple enemies took the form of some sort of lizards. Simple, sleek creatures with glowing masks, they promptly hissed into existence and began scattering into the mess of walls, taking cover. These ones were one of the weaker variants. Simple cowardly little things that would mostly run, but would take little pot shots around corners or when flanking. They weren't particularly srong, just meant to warm up with by having to chase them down and be mindful of one's surroundings.
For just a moment Edelo blinked.... then looked at his phone. A little...surprised that they didn't all just riush the pair. "Ah...ahah... uh, hope you don't mind a little hide and seek, Miss." HE noted, smiling sheepishly toward Natasha. Already a bit embarassed before promptly he bolted after the nearest one. Using a sudden burst of speed to zip around a corner and lunch a kick at the thing! Putting his full body into the attack, the hollows was promptly SLAMMED into the reishi wall, screeching as it's body collapsed into reishi and died. Huh.... flimsy little things. Even so, at least there were a lot of them! Cmon Edelo, don't look like an idiot infront of one of your superiors.

NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
"Fine by me, honey. I'm just lookin' to work up a sweat and get back into the swing of things. Let's see how we do fightin' side by side, then, okay~? I'm countin' on ya."
Natasha offered a playful smile in response to his surprised expression. He had always reacted so nervously around her, to such a degree that the woman had derived some measure of joy from teasing him whenever they crossed paths. She could certainly respect the energy he was exuding, too, and she found herself gearing up to follow suit, forming the desert eagle exclusive to her brand of spellcraft - Casanova. She thought about dual-wielding her weapons as she commonly did it, but she'd hold off on that decision for now.
There was no need for it at the moment. In that next moment, a shimmer was cast over the area surrounding them. Whistling softly, Natasha observed the reishi that vented from the storage contains, azure eyes marveling at the natural solidification of reishi manifesting in the shape of walls, a cover, and a series of platforms to work from. The brain on her bestie was exceptional.
Her azure gaze swept the area for other noticeable changes in the training arena, noting the makeshift enemies that started to take shape. Small, sleek hollows sharing a lizard motif. They weren't the type of opponents that would make one sweat offhand, but appearances could certainly be deceiving. She held no intention of letting her guard down, either way, and casually waved her hand toward him. The thought of seeking these little guys out would be good target practice.
All things considered, it'd certainly let her flaunt that clockwork accuracy she took pride in. In the blink of an eye, moments after Edelo went in to execute his fierce kick against the first series of hollows, Natasha would shift from the first few sets of platforms, leaping through the air as though performing a somersault. Without missing a beat, she pointed her gun toward a group of lizards, releasing a fierce wave of reishi gunfire, peppering each of them within a rain of bullets.

The crackle of gunfire drew Edelo's gaze, a brief dart in Natasha's direction.
As the woman leapt up onto the platforms, his eyes peeled away the layers, spotting her even through several walls. But he also could see the hollows reacting. As she began to pepper the walls, she'd only get a handful of hollows at a time. The POWPOWPOW of the Desert Eagle echoing through the whole area. Though as Natasha leapt up into the air, she caught the attention of a LOT of the Lizards. Their bodies jerking and twitching about eerily before they turned their attention to her.
The air suddenly filling with loud hissing before the sound of a soft KSST sounded as their mouths opened up. Compressing air before letting out little KRAKs as little pellets of reishi and compressed air fired from their mouths like spit. A spray like a shotgun firing toward Natasha. Hardly with lethal force, but with a force equivalent to a spray of paintballs, definitely enough to sting and leave welts, would lash all across the platform she was on. Forcing her to stay on the move as spray after spray of those shots would start to pop at her from all directions.
Edelo raced down the hallway, eyes narrowing as he noticed this new trend. Tch. Even worse, the fake hollows were all spread out. No real way to kill a bunch of them at once. All the same, the air around his body began twisting around his limbs as he ran. Sllowly picking up speed around his body before he launched himself. A sharp FWIP as he shot across the room, suddenly crouching against a wall, sticking t the wall by sheer momentum as his eyes shined, crouched on one of the high up panels that was sideways, offering aerial cover. A quick sqeep of the area let him see through those walls. Spotting the dozens of lizards hiding behind cover, but focused on one particular hallway that was firing at Natasha.
Full Tae: Hill Cutter
The name coursed through his mind as he leapt. Pushing off of the cover to shoot up and into the air, his body twisting as he sighted the hallway. The air twisting around his left foot before it billowed in a roar. A sharp slicing kick launched, and that blade of wind tore its way down, cleaving through several walls before plowing down the length of that hallway, vausing a series of startled cries as it tore through several of the hollows. Earning a sharp CRACK as a spray of shots from a couple lizards shot his way. Causing him to flinch before pushing off the air, using his fullbring to drop down below, landing with both feet slamming into a lizard beneath him, it's body crumbling into reishi before he began to race down the hallway, his eyes darting about, spotting hollows and moving to keep behind cover as he looked for the next best spot to attack.

NATASHA MILLER | HUMANITY'S STRONGEST SOLDIER
Well now, for simulated enemies, these reptilian hollows pinpointed her the air rather quickly. She supposed her acrobatic stunts across the platforms would make her stick out like a sore thumb, but at least these little guys would keep her on her feet. She couldn't even stay in one place for long, countless sprays of reishi hailing at her from several angles. That was fine.
She enjoyed the adrenaline rush. It wouldn't be any fun if they could take these hollows down with relative ease, right? Employing Hirenkyaku, Natasha shifted from platform to platform, avoiding the each spray, contorting her body to avoid each shot of reishi that tried to touch her frame. Of course, it wasn't exactly the most seamless effort. Some of those bad boys still managed to land, but that didn't faze her in the slightest.
Forming Roxanne in her other hand to go along with Casanova, Natasha's gaze swept at the enemies below, launching a wave of reishi bullets from each gun, positioning the weapons toward any lizard that hadn't found a place to hide like the others, mindful of Edelo's position below. To be honest, she was beginning to wonder if the better idea wasn't to simply follow suit and join him on the ground.
On the platforms, it might well be easier to turn her into a target, and that might throw off Edelo from his flow. It wasn't an actual battle, but Natasha felt it was only fair to treat it as one. Analyze, observe, and attack. After her initial wave of gunfire, she descended from the platforms, diving into the maze from above.
Since they had rarely connected, Natasha had never particularly got a chance to see how that man fought in live combat. Once she landed a few meters away, keeping her eyes peeled for any of these reptilian foes, she observed him quiet amusement, impressed by his martial prowess. Each move was purposeful, swift, and once he felled the enemies in front of him, he moved on to the next wave of hollows.
He was a disciplined fighter. Good. That was a fine trait to have. Well, she could admire that trait later. For now, with her spellcraft guns in hand, Natasha tailed behind Edelo through the maze, heading into any particular direction she might discern a foe springing forward or launching a spray of reishi, guns poised in preparation to defend against a surprise attack.
