Bitter Thanks [Veralia/Ehefra]

THE FIRE OF ENVY NEVER DIES
THE FLAME THAT BURNS THE BRIGHTEST
Protocols were a tedious but necessary evil. Before making her trip to see Ehefra, she communicated with the Vandereich and their security about her plans to see her. So, she was grilled, scanned, and tracked throughout the facility, but none of that bothered her. Having already gotten wind of what occurred in China, she was here to pay her respects to Ehefra.
After navigating through a series of endless hallways, Veralia knocked lightly on Ehefra's door and called out to her.
"Oi, it's Veralia. If it’s a bad time, just let me know and I'll fuck off."
She paused, her mind flickering through the whirlwind of emotions she carried with her. There was frustration—frustration with Stella for putting herself in danger again, anxiety over the thought of losing her, tension from the choices that needed to be made as the world continued to shift, and she felt a deep, simmering anger within herself. Yet, above all of that, there was a rare feeling of gratitude that Veralia couldn’t ignore.
With a quiet sigh, she added, her voice softer this time:
"But I just wanted to thank you... for looking out for Stella on the battlefield and bringing her back alive."

What a goddamn shitshow.
It really was something to behold that so many things had gone wrong in the vandenreich. While the jefferson endeavor had yielded some wreckages from the mechanical quincy warriors, ultimately the operation had been a resounding failure. They had failed to attain the snergy source that had been identified at the location. And after the operation, Liltotto, one of the top assets to their entire organization, had gone and vanished. No body. No sign of her leaving. She'd gone flying after the encounter with the enemy, and nobody had been able to find her since.
And suffice to say. When things had started to settle down for the investigation regarding Stella's capture. Lo and behold a new investigation popped up in Italy. And then of course, with the china incident, Stella had once again been assaulted. And she herself had been hospitalized.
She should be in her lab. Taking those fucking hunks of shit apart to get their technology. Technology that frankly could EXPEDITE the whole ' move the city of lights' conundrum theyd been facing.
But no, instead, she was here. Staring up at the ceiling. Wishing that she could put her first through the wall.
Ughhhhhhh.
Her eyes slowly drifted to a close. It truly felt like every month was an ocean beating away at the vandenreich. Carrying away another part of it every time. Even more.... she herself had stagnated. She wasn't hunting as often. And lo and behold. Shed been so focused on training others, she felt no real progress of her own.
It was unacceptable.
The thoughts, however, were interrupted as a nurse stepped in. Her eyes darting to the woman as they explained that she had her visitor. Ah.... right. The arrancar. A sigh escaped her and Ehefra rubbed her eyes. She informed the Nurse they could let her in, and Ehefra tried to release her tension as the awkward arrancar stepped into the room, the nurse guiding them in. She had to fight down her irritation. This uh.... gal, was unrelated to her frustrations. No need to take it out on them.
"It's part of the job. She's been through ... enough as it were." She responded, her voice was still a bit tired. She had several splints, both external and subdural, while her fractures and breaks healed. HEr limbs, blissfully, had been spared most of the damage. But well. HEr ribs had taken most of it.
Not great. And so she spoke quietly, so as not to breathe in too deeply and disturb the splints in her chest.
