Dime for your Time [Yusei, Ashai]
Mon Nov 11, 2024 2:28 pm
Ashai couldn't help herself. A big ol grin spread over her features as she waited patiently for their latest client to arrive. It was already one thing for the senkaimon to go under, but the gotei DISSOLVING?! Business had been in spades! And she was already thinking of some .. excellent deals she might want to cut with those weirdos trying to kickstart the gotei back up. Or ...Jin...pei... whatever they were calling themselves now. The point was, they WANTED to have access to the world of the living. And there was plenty of room to potentially squeeze a deal in.
Ah, but there was still the here and the now to worry about, and the pale-eared arrancar perked up as her sharp pesquisa picked up the approach of someone. Patiently waiting. Better be the client and not another weirdo, ugh. Some of these rukongai creeps made Hollows look chivalrous.

YUSEI KUROIWA | DAREDEVIL
The land of the living. The idea of coming back to it was fascinating. Could people see him? See him after he turned into an unrecognizable stain on the pavement? In either case, every experience he had in the Soul Society at large showed him he was weak and out of his depth. Starting over in there, bolstering the thin and overworked Shinigami ranks was the least he could do. It was in this context that Yusei walked over to Ashai. "Mm. Slow day at work? I’m sure we could help eachother out."
Yusei stood there. His clothes were workmanlike, loose hakama-style pants, a juban jacket, the most cushioned sandals he could afford. Everything was clearly mended and sewn together with black fabric, but splattered with a mixture of different dyes, calling to mind a tie-dye pattern. His zanpakuto was tied to his hip. He looked a bit tired as-is, and kept his sunglasses propped up against his bangs rather than his eyes proper, so she could see them.
He kind of scanned her over, and blinked. Rabbit ears? No nose or whiskers. Interesting. He carefully maintained that eye contact 70% of the time, lest he be accused of staring. He stood straight with his shoulders back, save for a brief bow. "It’s been twenty-five years since I lived there. I wanna see if anything changed. I’m willing to part ways with the last of my last stipend from the Gotei. My wages at the mill are fine, but I held onto it for moments like this."

Ashai's ears swiveled in response to the approach, and she turned Yusei's way as he promptly gave her......a greeting. That certainly was a greeting. "How ya doin there, sir? I take it you're all ready to go?" She asked with a calm smile. Taking no offense to his strange greeting.
"That right? Well if that's what you're aiming to do, you came to the right place. I even got some places in mind. Where ya lookin to head? Japan? Rome? City of Lights? Wont be able to drop ya anywhere directly but I can get ya close~ Ahahahah, just uh, make sure you give Africa a very WIDE berth. You wouldn't believe the things I hear going on there. Wouldn't sit right with me droppin ya into that mess." She advised as she promptly leaned away from the wall and stood upright. Brushing herself off before lightly running her fingers through the air.
"so, BEFORE we go taking you anywhere sir. I'll just need my payment. and of course to know where you wanna go."

She laid out his options right then and there. Yusei thought for a minute. Africa, like the whole continent? A lot of thoughts were coming, and she could see the gears turning in his head. Only now could he truly travel the globe. The words of a famous man rang out in his head. Get ready to learn Chinese, buddy. Yusei blinked, and looked back to Ashai. "Mm. I lived and died in Osaka, I wanna go back there."
Yusei stood there. His eyes widened. He then crossed his arms, and raised a brow, ever so slightly. He had a few questions for her, but only one was polite enough to say outloud. "Africa? Like, all over? That’s… wow. What happened there? I had my hands full enough defending the Rukon district."
He dug around in his robe for a second. Yusei produced from his pocket an envelope with a pressed gold wax seal. He offered it to Ashai in an outstretched hand, the other hand sitting on his hip. "Ready when you are. I wanna see Nihon again. And… how are you doing this exactly?"

Ashai paused as she started to mentally map out their actual route, only to raise her brows when he offered surprise at the mention of Africa. "What have you been living under a rock? The destruction of Vastime? The massive fuckin hole that opened up in the continent and started shitting out massive hollows? Sheesh, I forget how out of the loop you Soul Society dwellers can be. Well, Asia it is." She murmured, accepting the envelope and furrowing her brows a bit at the seal.
Huh... fancy.
Still, she couldn't help but smirk a little at his confusion. "It's transport kid, not your first hooker. You just take a step back, wouldn't want ya to get hurt." She chuckled as she turned and waved her hand, the air splitting open all too easily as a garganta yawned open before them. A black doorway and a path that promptly formed from her Reiryoku. "Easy as that. Now we walk. It won't be too long of a trip. We'll be in Japan in no time." She assured him, gesturing for him to step in before aiming to close the corridor behind them.

She laid it all out for him. Those little stories he’d heard just kind of pieced themselves together. He’d seen maybe one Menos Grande ever. She could see his eyes dart away as he started imagining a hole in space big enough for an army of them. As terrifying as it ought to be, his eyes lit up for a second. He envied that kind of power. Then he caught Ashai eyeing the envelope. "Should be all of it in the envelope. Keep the change. I don’t wanna look at that stamp anymore."
He folded his arms, watching Ashai slowly tear open the gate. That drew to mind a million questions, but none of them seemed that important at the time. "…Mm. So you must be—"
Perish the thought. As the gate opened up, Yusei slowly walked through. His sandals touched an entirely new type of floor, and the sensation was indescribable. Wasn’t concrete, wasn’t sand, wasn’t anything in particular. Lovecraftian, like trying to describe a color that doesn’t exist, or a texture that’s somehow every texture. If she looked at him, Ashai would see his eyes light up, with an almost childlike wonder. "Do you have any business down there too, or are you headed straight home?"

What a weird kid. Even muttering to himself as she opened the portal. Whatever, she got plenty of looks, from both rukongai citizens and her own kin outside of the sandwings. Not her problem. IF the kid wanted to whisper to himself, that was his prerogative. All the same, he certainly seemed interested in the process. But she didn't pay any attention to that as she began striding along the path she made with her energy, the door to the rukongai closing behind them smoothly, leaving them in nothing but the sheer darkness.
"OF course I do business down there. A service as reliable and affordable as ours doesn't just go unnotices ya know. Plenty of people from the world of the living want stuff moved to soul society." she smirked over her shoulder and gave a bright little wink. "Now Mister Soul, I wouldn't feel right without giving you a heads up. You aughta make sure that you keep mind of what kinda places you go visiting. Plenty of humans are used to shinigami roaming around, but there's some with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, see? Some humans don't really like soul reapers. So just keep an eye out for yourself. Wouldn't sit right with me if one of my customers got hurt." She insisted sagaciously, and certainly, the 'feeling' of soul society would slowly subside. That rich, spiritually charged air slowly fading away, until something much more... concrete would start to fill the air as they got closer to earth. The scent of sparser spirit energy, and of course. Kishi.
