I Have A Bad Feeling About This (Doku/Ashaiya)

Truthfully when Doku met Ashaiya in the City Of Lights seven odd months ago, he didn’t expect anything to come from it, after all, he was in Japan. However, to his surprise, he got a message when she was in the area. Taking any opportunity to leave the bar and get out. His last chat with Ashaiya was a pleasant one, a fellow Fullbringer who wasn’t a crazy ginger. Doku being a man of his word offered to show her the best spots in Tokyo.

For the first time in a LONG time, it had finally been a normal day. Their first stop was a movie, they saw the latest Sci-Fi Action movie! Space Fight 4! The fourth movie in the popular Space Fight series! A Sci-Fi movie that involves all the tropes you’d expect from the genre. Doku wouldn’t exactly be vocal about loving the movie, but when it came to Space Fight he was a huge nerd, he knew all the lore, read the comics, and collected the cards. When picking the movie he just explained it was the only decent movie in theaters at the time, of course, a lie, he just wanted to watch spaceships explode and laser sword battles, guess he knew grew up huh?

After the movie, the sun was setting and the day came to an end as the evening arrived. Due to their location, the streets were somewhat empty, avoiding major streets and taking some less crowded ones. The last thing he’d want was to get separated from her in a city as big as Tokyo. Eventually, he decided to drum up a conversation, making some suggestions on their next stop.

“So you ever had ramen? There’s this KILLER place right down the street from here. Sound good to you? I mean you’re the visitor, so I wanna make sure I show you what you wanna see you know?”

Pausing for a second he raised an eyebrow. "So what are you doing in Japan again?"

A lot had gone in the months between their encounters and there was a little bit of a difference in the way that Ashaiya walked. The social awkwardness of the past had become rather more manageable over time and the Fullbringer no longer jumped a mile when she was talking to someone new. It hadn’t been easy and the fluffy haired woman was certainly not a social butterfly yet but she was making progress and as long as she wasn’t in a massive crowd, she felt infinitely more comfortable.

The film was actually a lot of fun for Ashaiya and she found it easy to put herself in the shoes of the main heroine, swinging her blade around and making mincemeat out of the enemy. It wasn’t much different from when she was fighting Hollows really which had more than once caused her to smile during the picture. She hadn’t mentioned it to Doku just yet but she’d become quite a fan of the series thanks to watching the film and the brunette hoped that if there was a five, he’d go with her to see it too.

“No, I don’t think I have but I’d love to try some. I’ve heard it’s all the rage around here.” She’d say, her tone rather bright and happy for her, pleased to be in the company of her friend. “After watching that film, I’m starving. Must have been all the action that’s made me quite so hungry. You’ll have to catch me up on all the lore later as you’ve kind of got me hooked now.”

As he asked his second question, she gave him a deadpan look before laughing. “You invited me to watch the film, didn’t you? That’s why I came, Doku, that and trying to see if I could walk among people without getting frightened.”

The biggest change to Doku’s life was now having some extra disposable money, with Nanaly able to pay for her own treatment, Doku had that extra monthly money to himself. Of course, he was still tight with his money, but every little bit helps.

As the two walked and chitchat, Doku had them weave through alleys, usually he’d either take a portal home, or just use his bringerlight to get home, but Ashaiya was here for the city, so he wanted to give a scenic route.


The lore? Well of course he knew it! It even read the obscure book that went into the backstory of a background extra! “Well. I can do that, I own all of the movies physically, so I can always let you borrow them, or we can watch them if you decide to head by my bar for a drink!” He suggested, ab it more open about being a huge nerd. One of her answers caught Doku’s interest, raising an eyebrow as he spoke. “Wait. Did you come to Japan just to see this movie with me? “ He was a bit flattered, I mean traveling wasn’t easy, it took a lot of time and money.

“Where are you even staying? I can take you there after we get some dinner.”

It was so much easier to walk through the city with Doku at her side and Ashaiya felt quite at ease doing so. She couldn’t help but think back to their first encounter and smile, remembering just how timid she’d been back then. Just speaking to him had been tough back then, as awkward as she’d been when visiting the City Of Lights. There was so much more work left to do regarding that and the fluffy haired woman knew that but she was making an effort. It was just so strange that when fighting, the problem seemed to vanish.

“I’d be glad to visit your bar and watch them with you.” She’d answer with another smile. “After seeing the newest one, it’ll drive me mad if I don’t watch the others too and figure it all out. I feel like I’ve missed so much.” The woman had never had much to do with science fiction until meeting Doku but she couldn’t help but feel as though it was quite appropriate for her. It did seem that her way of fighting came straight out of that movie which caused her to grin too.

“Of course I came to see the film with you. That’s what friends do, right?” She added, sounding briefly unsure as if she’d made a mistake, a touch of awkwardness creeping into her tone. “I haven’t found a place to stay yet but I’m sure I will. I’m doing OK in terms of money at the moment so I should be alright for a little while.”

“It’ll be a lot, there’s a lot of movies! But we’ll knock it out!” He chucked, honestly the idea of a marathon was enticing. As Ash explained that she did in fact, come just for him, it made him a bit flustered, he was flattered that she’d do that.

She didn’t have a place? Well that was surprising, he took Ash as the type to be a planner. “Well, you can crash at my place” he folded his arms. “I can sleep on the couch” he wasn’t sure if that was weird to ask, but he wanted to make sure she had someplace to stay.

However as they walked, out of the corner of his eye he spotted something, nudging Ash to get her attention.

It seemed to be a mugging! Three delinquent looking man was hassling a nerdy student. Doku decided to look back at Ash before walking towards the men.

“Hey hey hey, break it up! I thought you guys were more mature than this!” He threw some shade at these delinquents, stepping in to stop this fight.

“Who yo talkin to? I don’t think you should be sticking in your nose into this!” One far taller then Doku walked up to him angrily. Two of them had bats, while the main one seemed to have nothing.

The fluffy haired woman would’ve gladly accepted his offer but before she could, Doku had drawn her attention to something else going on nearby. It didn’t take an awful lot of time for her to change from casual to work mode, so to speak and as Doku called out and the thugs fired back, the look on Ashaiya’s face turned rather thunderous in nature. She wasn’t going to let the mugging back place and even as the back and forth took place, her hand went down towards her Fullbring, touching the hilt of her weapon.

“I suggest you do as he says or you’re going to get more than you bargained for.” She responded to the thugs' taunt, her tone ominously dark all of a sudden. “Leave the kid alone.”

“Why don’t you and your boyfriend just get lost?” Another thug shouted at her. “Better yet, give us your money first and then get lost.”

“I’m not going to warn you again.” Ashaiya replied, taking the hilt and taking it in her hand.

“Neither am…”

He didn’t get to say much at that point, as the fluffy haired woman drew her free hand back at that point, manipulating the air around her and launching it towards him, hurling him backwards and into a dumpster behind him.

Her patience ran out.

Doku was honestly enjoying his conversation with Ash, he couldn’t exactly put his finger on it but he felt like they hit it off well, he felt like they clicked well. The fullbringer honestly wanted to test Ash, to see her hero instinct, usually, Doku dealt with rowdy people at his bar, so he was used to dealing with the occasional hothead. These were just your run-of-the-mill dropouts, so they shouldn’t be any trouble for either of them.

As Ash pushed the first thug back Doku whistled, he hadn’t seen her use her abilities yet, hearing and seeing were really different. It honestly was exciting. As he clashed with the dumpster, one of his buddies rushed over to check on him.

The leader quickly let go of the nerdy boy and looked towards Ashaiya. “Wh-What the hell was that?! Y-You’re a freak!” Reaching into his trenchcoat he would draw a pistol. This is where Doku decided to step into action. However there was a big problem, Doku couldn’t summon his gun and shoot this guy, I mean what kind of hero would do that? So he quickly extended his hand and summoned a solid blue stream of Reishi. To Ashaiya this wouldn’t be a fullbringer ability, it had a different feeling.

The blue whip would wrap around the leader’s hand, before yanking the gun out of his grip, followed by a whip to his head, knocking him out cold. The whip disappeared, fading back into nothing.

The nerdy high schooler would watch in awe, stunned for a few seconds before bowing. “T-Thank you so much!” Before rushing off as fast as his stubby little legs could carry him.

“So. Do we call the cops…? Or do we just leave them?” Doku honestly wasn’t sure what to do in this situation. Two of them were knocked out, and one was panicking as he tried to figure out what to do. Usually, Doku just left them there, but he left the decision to Ashaiya, wanting to really figure out what her sense of justice was like. "Glad you didn't slice his arm off, like in the movie."

In truth, Ashaiya wasn’t entirely certain what she wanted to do at first either although it was noticeable just how cross she was with the thug who was still conscious. Her big brown eyes cut through him as easily as he blade would’ve and for a moment she wondered about doing something drastic. She was a woman of justice but it was people such as the men before them that had raised hell against her family. The fluffy haired woman had a grudge against thieves and criminals, one that wasn’t just going to go away.

Eventually, the hand that had been on her blade moved towards her side and a sigh escaped her. “He should consider himself lucky that he surrendered rather than fought because if he did decide to fight, he might just have lost something. I don’t trust these guys to hand themselves in though so the least we can do is take them to the authorities ourselves.” It seemed the right course of action to take and while she was still angry, she remembered the lessons of her Master, which helped her relax.

Turning to Doku, she’d add in a complimentary tone. “That was a neat technique with the whip, by the way, I don’t think he knew what hit him. It looks like you've got more than your fair share of tricks.”

Her sharp attitude was honestly the surprising part, up until now she was the shy type, but when someone needed help she locked in and… well help! Doku was honestly impressed and felt he could learn a thing or two from his friend. The purple-haired man’s ears perked up, his attention from the scrambling thugs to Ash as she spoke. “Right. There’s a police station just around the corner.” Doku walked over, while two of the men were out cold, the one that was still standing would find himself restrained, Doku holding his hands and restraining him, after he fought against the man for a few moments, he finally gave up, knowing he couldn’t overpower the Quincy. He figured the other two would be easy enough for Ash to haul. She was strong.

“Oh, that’s uh. My Quincy weapon, I didn’t wanna use my gun obviously, the noise would have alerted a ton of people, so I just kinda threw it out.” Doku used his free hand to summon his spirit weapon yet again, it was a very simple whip of Reishi, though looking at it, showed it was faded, and not very powerful. Eventually, it disappeared, back into thin air.

“Well… it sucks out little hangout turned into this-” Honestly things were going really well! A nice, (totally not a date!) hangout. “But hey, I guess it’s something we’ll remember when we’re old-” Doku would let out a light chuckle, eventually pulling the man along, and leading Ash to the police station.

While Doku was dealing with the still conscious thug, Ashaiya would tilt her head before tapping into her own powers, causing both of the out cold criminals to rise into the air. It was simply an additional use of the technique she’d used before but it would certainly be useful here. She’d spent a lot of time training her manifestation skill and by now she used it as though she was one of those wizards from the film the two Fullbringers had watched. Once they were up, she’d follow alongside Doku, the two men hovering lifelessly beside them.

“I hope that next time we won’t be so rudely interrupted.” She replied, giving the unhappy criminal a rather foul look before turning to Doku, a smile returning to her features then. “That being said, the movie was great and I got to see you in action so I suppose it wasn’t so bad.” The fluffy haired woman said it before she’d thought it through and the second she realised, her cheeks turned slightly pink. Now that the danger was passed, it was as if she’d completely reverted back to type, much to her chagrin. There was still work to do before she’d become the social butterfly she one day hoped she could be.
