[Otoya Kurenai]

The people were still in a weird haze as he slowly returned. It was no surprise - until a few hours ago, everyone had expected a war to break out. Soldiers returned home or to their barracks everywhere, families embraced their own, and the machinery of the magicians got taken back to their resting places. The capital city of the eastern kingdom reminded Otoya of a busy bee-hive, and it made him smile underneath the heavy helmet of his enchanted armor. He himself was slowly nearing the city himself - riding on the head of a gigantic castle-dragon, the Castle Doran. Jumping down, light like a feather, infront of the castle, he turned around one last time and gave the Castle Doran an affectionate tap on the snout. The big dragon blew out some hot air with a pleased tone, and laid down infront of the city to sleep. The people around Dark Kiva stared at the warrior - some with respect, a few with a bit of fear, but generally, they were all glad that he had been there for them.

Somehow, this kind of attention felt quite good. It was not the reason why he had chosen to do what he did, though - and he only had a limited amount of time left. Dark Kiva drained the power of an unworthy owner until they died - Otoya did not believe one second to be a suitable wearer of this armor. It was only natural that he'd die soon from using it, but at least for once, his useless self had managed to accomplish something! So he had to at least try THAT for one last time. Even though it was selfish. With a sigh, he made his way towards the city gates. Nobody stopped him, as his quick steps took him through the crowds, his cape flowing behind him in the wind. Somehow, this wind seemed so... gentle. It was odd feeling it through his armor, but also pleasant. The Dark Kiva suit really was a marvelous piece of equipment and raw power when you got right down to it!
Without wasting any time, the dark warrior made his way towards the castle now. Amused, he noticed that it still wasn't completely finished with expansions. It was ever-growing, just like the city around him. Just like the entirety of the Sugiura race. And thanks to evading this war, they'd continue to grow...

Finally, he walked through the entrance doors of the castle. The guards nodded their heads towards him, as his stride took him right into the throne room. The talking inside - if there even was any - would've most likely stopped now. There, they would be... The queen Shimura, the god-mother of the Sugiura race. But even more than her... the one woman that Otoya had chosen to take this toll upon himself for. A beauty with white hair, wolf ears and a wonderful aura of peace and divinity. Upon entering this hall, the steps of Dark Kiva slowed down, until he was infront of the stairs leading up to the thrones.
"I'm sorry... for being so late. I almost missed it completely." A deep bow followed from the one clad in darkness... Right before the Kivat Bat on his belt disconnected itself. In a flash of chains and violet rose petals, the dark armor vanished - to give free someone underneath.
The useless minstrell. The one that had never even once in his life had done anything worthwhile. But there he stood... With a slight smile on his face, and the colorful, wondrous markings on his cheeks that slowly faded away. Suddenly, a wave of weakness washed through his body, and the Kurenai had trouble standing straight, tumbling backwards a bit...
"W-woah... Is it already... ending?"
The black bat from his belt was silent, but it flew over to Shimura now - and whispered into her ear. Who this man really was.

The chosen Dark Kiva.

Before that king, nay’, legend entered the throne room, many people from aristocrats to advisors were giving their best efforts to console the queen. Each moment passing by, seemed to her like an eternity, one spent waiting for her dear beloved. His return was the only thing that would bolster her resolve, give her hope and the bravery to stand tall. As opposed to the times where he would go on journeys, a war was infinitely worse. On the battlefield, there was a theory that even if you were a revered general or a leader whose name would be forever ensconced within annuls of military fame, there was always this proverbial opponent men or women found that were equals to them in strength, or on an entirely different level beyond measurement.

Had he too, faced such an opponent? Had he inevitably met his end at the hands of such a powerful warrior? She needed to have faith, the belief that he would return. Standing beside her in a dress outlined with gold, was her mother and Sugiura founder, Shimura Sugiura. Her arms were wrapped around the neck of her daughter whose empty expression seemed listless, as though a human doll had materialized on the mortal plane. Seeing her daughter in such state—it was hard to swallow no matter how one tried to sugarcoat it. The man who made her heart burn with passion and love had gone into war, and there was no guarantee that he would return.

This Otoya was a strange, unusual man. Misaiko reticently rejected his advances, finding him to be nothing more than a playboy. However, that same man was going through the ultimate test. Part of her wished to upbraid him for worrying her daughter so, but a feeling in her chest told her that he was going to return. No, he would return. As Shimura continued to console her daughter, she felt a strange otherworldly emission of spiritual pressure from the entrance of the throne room. At the same time, everyone housed inside ceased all movement. The goddess of creation blinked twice, thrice, before directing her head towards the new arrival.

When she did, a gasp left her lips. Misaiko raised an eyebrow, holding the armored warrior within her gaze as he continued to walk forward, her hand at the hilt of her sword. How a stranger could possibly get through at such a pivotal time perplexed her. Nevertheless, there was a certain familiarity about him that she couldn’t quite place. The menacing armor dissipated, and her eyes went wide like saucers. This man was—he was—Otoya! Her face lit up in an instant. Shimura saw Dark kivat fly towards her, and leaned her head over ever so slightly so she could confirm that he was indeed who they thought he was. He had fulfilled the prophecy?

The revelation astonished Shimura. A mere playboy with no fame to his name, or even any glory, had successfully wielded the power of the King. “My, “She smiled sullenly, “you really put my daughter through a hellish period in her wait for your return. But I’m relieved to see you've come back in one piece.” Misaiko paid no heed to her mother’s words, for she had forgiven him from the moment he returned. He could make her wait minutes, hours, days, weeks, and even years and all of the sorrow in her heart would abate. She slipped from mother’s arms and ran towards him without her usual sense of alacrity.

To hell with grace! Her beloved had returned! When she came face to face with him, she wrapped her arms around the waist of the stumbling, haggard Otoya and brought him into her tranquil embrace. “Otoya…you’ve returned. This brings me uttermost happiness, but you didn’t have to put yourself through this test. Although I rejected your advances in the past…i…i,” she struggled with her words but gathered all the courage that was needed to say those three magical words. “You’ve finally earned my boundless affection, Otoya Kurenai. Forever and always, I love you. “

[Otoya Kurenai]

Dark Kivat noticed quickly that Shimura knew what his words meant. The prophecy of the Kivat clan - for her, it had been nothing but a legend, but as a Kivat bat, the Guardian Beast had never even once thought it possible for it to be wrong. It was quite a simple one, too - one day, a warrior of clear soul and determined spirit shall climb the largest mountain of the endless world, to grasp the power of the one true king. And only if that warrior was ready to sacrifice his own self should he remain with it, forevermore. After nodding - which looked quite funny, considering he was a flying artifact-beast bat - towards the godmother of the Sugiura race, Kivat Bat the Second fluttered back - back to where a weakened Otoya was suddenly embraced by the women he had taken this test for.

The musician, in the meantime, was a bit speechless - he didn't know what he had expected to happen, but certainly not... this. For Misaiko of all people to throw away the grace that her people adored and just suddenly embrace him, never would he have imagined such a moment - but his heart and soul instantly cheerished it. Internally, he had been ready for death the moment the armor wore off - but the fact that he was still breathing was a clear sign, the powers of Dark Kiva accepted him. Obviously, he was quite happy NOT to bite the dust...
But what made him even happier were her words and behavior. Finally, she showed that grace was only one part of her - and she also finally showed the same affection towards him as he had felt towards her. It was no secret that ever since he became a Sugiura, he had pursued the affections of Misaiko - people had been laughing about it for years at this point. But deep down, he had always truly loved her - and the kind, unbound spirit deep within her, the loving self. Now that those affections were given to him, an incredible feeling of peace washed over him - together with the weakness that had crawled into his body. It was quite embarassing - especially for someone who had been able to at least hold his own somewhat unless he was facing a physical god - but right now, she was holding him up more than the own legs. In retrospect, the time he spent away seemed like only a moment - but in reality, as soon as news of the brewing Guardian Beast rebellion were heard more than a week ago, he had set out. Wandering without pause throughout the most dangerous areas of the known Sugiura Dimension to then reach a gigantic mountain and climb it without any help was hard enough, but Otoya had also done it without any kind of sleep or rest. After all, he was hurrying not to fulfill a prophecy - he had only heard it once he arrived at the top. Originally, his only lead had been a legend of incredibly influencial Guardian Beasts who could maybe stop the war.
"Misaiko..." A light, friendly sigh, as Otoya returned the embrace as good as he could - it hurt him to lift the arms that far, and they burned as if someone was guiding liquid fire through them. Not very nice. Still, for her, he'd endure much more.
"And I'll always love you - the queen of my world. For you, I'd grasp the stars from the sky." To be this near to Misaiko - his voice had that typical melody to it, as happiness flooded his mind. Said happiness was most likely the reason why he didn't say something stupid enough to ruin the moment. "Sorry that... it took so long, by the way. I was almost too late to stop everything out there." And there it was, the smile of Otoya Kurenai. "But Otoya Kurenai never disappoints."

The now jubilant Misaiko shook her head furiously, holding the haggard Otoya in her arms. His body seemed unsteady, as though it filled with lead. No doubt, his ordeals nearly brought him to the end of his existence, but his willpower nevertheless pulled through, to allow him to see the woman who had finally confessed her love. She didn’t care that he had made her worried, the fact of the matter was, here was here now and in her arms. Smiling, she looked up into his eyes as he confidently spoke of his success. Yes, a reckless man like him couldn’t possibly fail. She knew this beyond reasonable doubt, like a powerful law branded upon her soul. As long as her love was there to fuel him, she had no reason to worry anymore. Although it took her many times to finally realize her feelings were genuine, Misaiko was nevertheless blessed to have this man back at her side. Shimura, seeing Otoya’s critical condition, requested that a few medical soldiers tend to any particular bodily injuries he may have suffered as a result of using Dark Kiva’s power. Controlling a guardian beast of such power was no easy task. For Otoya, who was much like a novice warrior in his first stages of learning new combat, using such a limitless amount of energy was nothing short of suicide. She would have to discuss this with the young man at a later date. Now, however, her only wish had currently been fulfilled. Her daughter was once again brimming with happiness, her expression so reminiscent of her days as a childhood girl. Those expressions always put Shimura at ease. As long as she could smile with such happiness, even Shimura felt as though she had an inexhaustible power to take on the world. Misaiko turned to her mother, nodding assent, as she carried Otoya towards the infirmary room along with the soldiers. She would love to hear about his journey, but his condition came first.

[Otoya Kurenai]

Dark Kivat just silently hovered above them, as Otoya was slowly guided away from the throne room - he had trouble even really noticing where they went, thanks to his exhaustion now hitting him full force. Still, he simply followed where Misaiko was leading him - the medics would do their job accordingly, because if one could be sure of a single thing with the Sugiura, it was the discipline of their army. And the skill of said army, for that matter. Still, it was good to know that neither of those had to be used against the Guardian Beasts.
Finally arriving in the infirmary, Otoya was put onto one of their beds, before the medics could really start the checkup. One of them quickly noticed the dangerously red liquid slowly soaking the back of the man's clothing - upon removing most of said clothing against the weak protests of the musician - at least they let him keep his underwear - the reason was easily apparent. Something had charred Otoya's back, most likely a strong fire, and the wounds from that had been ripped open after barely healing at all from him moving around a bit too much - a few cuts ran through both of his arms and even his legs, but the main thing that knocked Otoya into the current state was simple exhaustion rather than injury. Although said injuries did hurt him like hell, so the healing magics and medicine put onto his injured back where a welcome deviation from those. His face towards Misaiko still had his cocky feeling about it, even though he made a slight grimace from recieving this kind of attention.
"Oh well, seems like I'm still in one piece, at least. Remind me next time NOT to take the shortest path through a patch of blade-grass when I'm searching for an ancient mountain." he said, looking at the cuts on his arms with a slight chuckle, as one of the medics fixated a few bandages on them. Thanks to the application of healing magic, they would heal in a rather short time - the power of darkness now flowing through Otoya also enhanced his natural healing capabilities anyway.
