Roderich stands at a little over 6 feet tall and at 160 Lbs. He has a large scar down the middle of his back.

He has an athletic build, but he is also very muscular.

His hair is down to his ears and is a pitch black color. His eyes are the same color as his reiatsu a sky blue. He has wire frame glasses with rectangular lenses.

At most times his regular attire is a long dark blue coat with a white undershirt blue pants and darker blue boots. He also always has his sword sheathed to the left on his waist.

Driven:
Though it does not show at all times Roderich is extremely driven. He does not make it a dominant part of his outer personality but those who know him well know this is great part of him. Ever sense he entered the academy he has been driven to the point of near death of exhaustion. He is not foolish to the point of self destruction, but when Roderich sets his mind to a goal he does not stop until it has been realized.

Fun:
Roderich likes having a good time. He trains vigorously, but when he isn't he has as much fun as possible. Whether it is simplistic things or grand celebrations. He'll drink as much as he can tell he drinks more than the people he is drinking with or until he passes out. Comedy also brings him a lot of joy. People whom are funny or joyful he tends to get a lot with really easily.

Book Smart:
Through a good chunk of time at the academy he spent it in books. Mostly learning about Zanjutsu, but also getting a general knowledge about all things soul society.

Carefree Like:
Being carefree would mean not to care, but that is the exact opposite. He puts on a outward appearance that he is that way. Being carefree against the assault of danger and evil. Being carefree in difficulties and staring death in the face with a smile. He isn't carefree, but he is courageous enough to face the worst evil. Calm enough to overcome the most difficult or irritating situation, and Wise enough to strategically do what needs to be done to win.

• History:

Human Life

Roderich never really spoke about his human life. It was a past where he was painfully forgotten by all he knew. He was never noticed and never had any friends. He would walk to school and back alone everyday. He would never talk to anyone and never smile once. He was almost afraid of others too because they were something he never dealt with. He had become solitary, but not by his choosing. As life went by he graduated from high school and got a normal job where he did the same as he did everyday at school. Two months went by at his job until the one day a young women came up to him and introduced herself.

"Hi! My name is Mia! What's yours?"

Roderich was surprised and his first reaction was to not say anything because he didn't think she would talk to him. She repeated herself so he became curious and looked around seeing if there was anyone around

"Yes you!"

He looked her directly in the eyes and was confused at why she would be talking to him, but he answered simply

"Roderich."

He didn't know anything about this women, but she seemed to be one of the most cheerful people he had ever met. He was still confused though because she was a beautiful young women and she was talking to him, but he wasn't as interested in her reasoning as the fact that she was talking to him.

Their relationship grew from that day on. Everyday she would come over and talk to him at work and slowly they began to hangout outside of work. They would get coffee, go to fun events and do whatever else that was fun. Though every time they would hangout he still would never smile no matter what happened even though she was always smiling.

This went on for months until the first time sense she introduced herself to him Mia was not at work. The next day came, and it was the same. For the next week she was not their until Roderich decided to look around and try to find out what was happening. He called her but, got no answer. The next day though he got a text back. All that was there was an address. So after work that day Roderich made the trip to where the address was and found it to be a hospital. Roderich was confused as to why she had text him this address. So he walked into the hospital and asked if Mia was around. The receptionist looked up her name and looked up at the man with a somber look and gave him a room number.

Roderich did not know why she gave him this look, but all he cared about was where she was. He found the room and knocked then let himself in. He found her, but what he saw stopped him in his tracks. Mia had an illness that had been destroying her body from the inside out. She looked weak like she only had a very short time to live. Her eyes were closed, so Roderich pulled a chair next to her bedside and waited for her to wake. Hours went by and finally she opened her eyes and looked at him.

"Roderich it's you... I'm so glad your here."

She with what little strength she had put a smile on her face even though she was in an extreme amount of pain. She went on to explain in few words that she had found out she had this illness 1 week before she had introduced herself to him. She had no family, friends or anything else, all she had was him. He asked her curiously

"If you were dying then why were you always smiling?"

With her weak smile she replied to him

"Because with death so close a lesson I learned was there was always something to be thankful for."

At first Roderich didn't understand with the crap life he had, but as the next two weeks went by and by the last three days there wasn't one day he wasn't smiling. On that last day he kissed her on the forehead and she died peacefully. From that day on he found thanks in everything, and always had a smile on his face.

One day though he found that the smile wasn't the only thing she left him. After the large amount of contact they had he had contracted her disease, but still there was not one day that he was not smiling. As he laid on his deathbed and faded into the afterlife he went with a smile upon his face.

This is not a story that he tells many people at all, but this is one of the biggest reasons why he is whom he is today. She taught him to always be thankful as possible and have fun as much as possible!

Academy life:

The academy was another turning point in Roderich's life. Once he joined there was nothing he wanted more, but to be the best. His life before this had be undriven, uninspiring and useless. Mia showed him to be thankful and now that he had this opportunity he would use every single opportunity that was offered. He would do his best.

At first he wasn't anything special in fact he was below the marks. So what he did is dedicate himself to being the very best. He had rigorous training to hone his body and mind. He focused mostly on Zanjutsu but got a well rounded education in all other things. After the first 6 months he was the top student in the academy. He continued to have this drive the rest of his life, but it was always hidden under that smile which he had towards all and everything.

Shinigami life:

For the longest time Roderich was just a normal shinigami with guard duty and small jobs. Until he began being dispatched with a group that exterminated large groups of Hollows. His first few jobs went really well until there was a irregularity one day. It was shown as an odd portal so his team was sent out to go take a look and exterminate all hollows in the area.

As they arrived to the area there was a horde larger sized normal rank hollows. His team then quickly began widdling down this group. To him with some experience at this now it was just like cutting grass really easy and simplistic until something extremely odd happened they all began to fall back. Hollows usually fought to the last man, but something scared them off, and we found out very quickly what it was. Gilian class follows a single Adjuchas. Roderich had known about these hollow from his studies but never had seen them close up. The Adjuchas pointed at the group and all 10 of the Gilian that were not their shot off large ceros at them. Being large blasts part of his 20 person group was taken out. They then charged the Gilian. Roderich felt fear but not enough to stop They all focused on 3 at a time doing their best to avoid the enemies attacks but soon after they began their attack that's when they began to be slaughtered. Once there was only 8 left they shunpoed back and reformed only killing the first 2 Gilian the rest of them were dead.

Roderich was relatively injured all across his torso from two direct hits from Gilians. His teammates were near death and he could barely stand, but all he could do was smile. The Adjuchas saw how he was smiling and only had one thing to say.

"..Die"

Then him and the rest of the hollows charged massive Ceros. Roderich looked around at his group and none of them had strength to run, but him. He couldn't though. He had to do his best to make it so his teammates lived. He thought

"Even if I die they'll live"

Then the hollows let off a massive joined blast and in the seconds it tooks to get to Roderich they seemed to slow to a stop. Roderich looked around him as his men were frozen as well. He then looked forward as a beautiful young lady with white hair appeared in front of him

"Do you wish to rebel against those who would cause you and your team death?

At first Roderich didn't know what to make of this situation, but he somehow felt comfortable with her and said

"Yes."

He said this with the same smile he always had. She then approached him and touched his right wrist and left arm.

"Then let it be. My name is Seira, and I will fight along side you from now on."

When the dust settled from the massive blast His men and him were still standing. His left arm and right forearm was covered in armor with a shield on his left his. He had held that in front of him creating an extremely strong barrier around him and his men. The Adjuchas was confused and angry at the same time so he pointed at them once again and at a rapid fire all the Gilian and himself shot ceros at rapid fire.

Yet again as the dust settled the barrier stood, but deteriorated. It fell only because he was lacking the energy to keep it up any longer from his previous fighting. He dropped to his knee with a his lone shield before him and a smile on his face

"Well I tried my best. I'm sorry"

In an instant later all of the Gilian were cut in half as a captain approached his left and said

"You've done well. Leave it to me now"

The captain dispatched the rest as Roderich passed out. He awoke in a bed with the captain sitting in a chair next to him and as he awoke the captain looked at him.

"Welcome back. You did a brave thing back their. Looks like the men have taken calling you Crusader's Shield. You have a bright future here. Continue to get stronger"

The captain left and a month later Roderich rejoined his group and continued to eliminate hollows and get stronger. He from that day on decided he was going to become a captain and the only way to do that was to be the best.

Powerset

Zanjutsu:

Roderich never found much use for Kido. As he was taught kido through out the academy he was able to use it for small tactical uses, but found Zanjutsu to be more of a practical armament. At first he was terrible at Zanjutsu. Every duel he would get into he would lose. As days and months passed by he got sick of of not being good enough. So he began to practice twice sometimes three times a day for hours at a time.

At first he would do all of his training against trees. He would make it so ever strike, stab and slash was made into muscle memory. Each tree he would use would be notched in down to it's core and once his strikes became powerful enough to cut through the trees he switch to a wooden sword and continued to do the same. Each and every "Classical" Strike stab and slash was burned into the memory of his muscles so it wouldn't ever take him any thought

Once Roderich had finished with using trees he moved on to sparring partners, and learned very quickly that even though every move he had been taught was now burned into his skull he would need much more than that to be good. So all that he would do is duel fellow students and study different kinds of Zanjutsu in order to for his own. The amount of time he put into his training before was put into his duels, but all of his extra time was spent studying new forms of zanjutsu. Actions, reactions, fluid, static it all was study.

As he graduated he was he would still practice his own style on tree and he still does the same to this day. When he is working in the Gotei 13 he does a lot of hollow elimination and sparring with fellow shinigami. His strength was greatly approved by facing other shinigami and his inventiveness and adaptivity greatly increased when he went against Hollows. To this day this is how he trains, and he is highly ranked in Zanjutsu even against those who are lieutenant level.

Speed/Hoho:
This is one of two things that Roderich knew he would need a great deal of in order to be the best when it comes to Zanjutsu. Along with his rigorous Zanjutsu training every day before and after he trained he marked out a certain distance and did that distance every day. He grew faster and faster each time he would do it tell eventually he was getting faster and faster. When he got to a certain point in the academy he was taught the amazing art of flash stepping or also known as Hoho. For Hoho he would do the exact same thing only after his running.

To train his reaction time he would fight three or more enemies at a time. At first he was getting beaten badly. Each and every time he would duel more that 2 people he would get the crap beat out of him. He was great with one on one's, but he just wasn't good at processing more than a two person fight. Until one day his Zanjutsu instructor took pity on him. He put him through a specialized training and after one month he was able to easily do combat while being surrounded by multiple enemies. He would continue to do this multiple person dueling until he graduated and in the Gotei he does this with squad members also.

Strength

Because Zanjutsu was his favorite form of combat this attribute was very important. Every day he would grow in strength as he would use trees for training. He would constantly be using his muscles. Along with technique came strength with the constant usage of muscles. He would also move logs around and do things like push-ups, pull-ups, and many other things to increase his strength along with his training. It wouldn't be his main aim but a part of his training never the less.

There are simply two chairs sitting near a towering oak tree in a vast grassy field on a beautiful sunny day

• Sealed Zanpakutô Apperance :

• Sealed Zanpakutô Abilities:
Roderich's Zanpakutō in sealed form gives off a sky blue aura. This blue aura increases the slashing and stabbing force behind his attacks.

• Release:

Rebel against the oppressive! Seira!

Roderich says this with his Zanpakutō pointed forward and held with his right hand and his left arm pointed left with his fist clenched

• Shikai Description:

After Roderich says his release a shining blue aura that fills the engraving that are upon his sword all the way up to the tip of his Zanpakutō. They also fill the non gold parts of his hilt/guard. The lines then make their way up his right forearm and surround it then cross his chest and envelop his entire left arm. Once that is finished what appears is first his Zanpakutō itself stays the same with engravings lit.

The light around Roderich's Right forearm and left arm would materialize and look like the Male's does in the picture.

Another thing is a circular shield form a little bit above Roderich's left wrist. From the center to the outer edge the shield is 2 1/2 Feet. There is a engraving in the shield that looks like a 4 point star, but it looks more like four crystals meeting at a square center. There is also an engraving of this on his left hand on the armor.

• Shikai Abilities:

Roderich gets his title from his Shikai abilities.

Fighting Style with Shikai

Roderich fights very fluidly with his Shikai. Using his shield to block strikes he will sometimes use the enemies momentum to take them off balance. He also uses his in bashing type moves. Besides the more untraditional uses with his shield with great speed he also blocks many incoming strikes using it.

Crusader's Shield

Roderich's most well known move is called Crusader's Shield. He bends his left arm to a 90 degree and points his fist into the air. The engravings that are on the shield then are filled with like as he then projects a barrier of a size of his choosing to protect him or others from harm. He has been known to use this from in varying sizes from 10 feet to his max which seems to be 100 feet. This move Lasts as long as he wishes, but the fallback of it is that it is constantly draining his energy. The bigger the barrier the more it burns at him and the longer it's up the more energy he loses. It can also be destroyed but it takes a large attack to do so

Crusader's Slash

Roderich's next move he uses his sword. He'll start this move by raising and pointing his Zanpakutō above his head. Then his Zanpakutō becomes extremely bright with energy and grows until it is to the desired length to cause however much damage he feels like he wants to give. He then slashes at whatever his target is usually causing massive damage to the target or the area around it.

Crusader's Arrow

A smaller, but more frequently used move is his Crusader's Arrow. Only the engravings on Roderich's sword get brighter in this circumstance. Then what happens is his stabs towards whatever his target is shooting off inch thick, and two foot long arrow like blast with a concussive piercing power.

Crusader's Bash

Roderich uses this in close range combat and makes his entire shield light up then using this power he ether using the outer rim or the front of the shield itself bashes his opponent causing a strike with a magnified amount of damage

Crusader's Oath

With Roderich's left hand in the armplate the engraving on his hand lights up and he what he does is touches an ally and a mark is made upon them. This mark generates a barrier which they cannot be attacked, but they cannot attack either. Roderich uses this when he has allies whom are too weak or whom have too much damage done to them to protect them from their enemies. This move lasts for three posts and then wears off

Crusader's Slayer

The engraving that is on Roderich's shield and everything within it becomes extremely bright as the engraving and energy grow the four diamond like points overcome the shield and become extremely sharp. Roderich uses this in instances when he has no other choice. It is a purely offensive move that turns his shield into a four extremely sharp length that are rectangular and end off like a triangle at their tips. One point goes forward from his fist to the left and right of his fist and up his arm. Unfortunately this disables Roderich's ability to use Crusader's Shield or Crusader's Oath

Crusader's Slaughter

When Roderich has Crusader's Slayer activated he points his sword and the point of his shield that his facing forward from his fist forward and point them to opposites sides of where they are held. They then glow brightly and project to a larger energy form. Roderich then slices his shield left and his sword right and finished by bringing both of them high into the air and slashing them both down upon his opponent
