“What’s this?”

Sonia had to bite her bottom lip in an effort to keep her accent from overtaking her vocabulary. Well, at least that’s how her Grandmother described it. Her father’s accent was thick and oftentimes it was hard for her mother’s side to understand his words, something that the prideful man often struggled with. Sonia, however, cared little for how others viewed her and embraced her New Orleans accent with gusto, her use of slang making her parents roll their eyes no less than a dozen times whenever their only daughter was around. Her time with the Street Monks had only regressed her vocabulary further, and Lily was having none of it.

Today was one of those days that her Grandmother was using the long, thin switch she usually kept around for Sonia’s Quincy training. She hardly used it anymore; having beat the backtalk out of Sonia a long time ago and mostly used it to keep her granddaughter on her toes. However now it was being used for something completely different; to straighten out Sonia’s vocabulary to respectable levels. Usually Lily was a ‘let and let live’ type when it came to others and their personal quirks, but the amount of swearing and overall disgusting sentence structure that Sonia was displaying was enough to drive the old woman mad. Hence the switch, with the results being a glowering Sonia rubbing sore knuckles and doing her best to enunciate her words carefully. She still could not manage to fully hide her accent, but truth be told she wasn’t trying.

In her hand Sonia held up a small device that was completely unfamiliar to her. But then again, her Grandmother kept relics of their Quincy heritage all over her ‘Vault’, a secure room at the Bond Estate. She often hunted such trinkets and brought them home to keep safe and, if unknown, would do her best to find more information on. There was little about anything Quincy related that her Grandmother didn’t know about but this particular device was out in the open with all sorts of notes and books opened up around it. This meant, if Sonia was correct, that her Grandmother was trying to find out more about said device. The blond held the piece up higher, marveling at its design. It glowed a soft cornflower blue in the light.

“Something pure,” came the reply, and Sonia turned her head to look at her Grandmother curiously. “The only one of its kind, if I am correct. I have been researching for a long while to even find out its name but…well, it does not seem to have one.” The look on her face was one of pure frustration as the elderly woman walked towards Sonia, her strides long and powerful for one her age. “But I have found out its function by its design.”

“And?”

“And…” Lily furrowed her eyebrows at her granddaughter’s short tone. “It is a device used to heal. Not only heal, but purify. Revert.” A pause. “If you were sick with something as simple as a cold, this device could banish the foreign substances in your body to…purify it. So to speak.” Lily looked away for a moment, as if she were struggling to find the right words. “It is not as simple as that. It is more, but I cannot seem to find out more information on it.”

“Ya mean dis coulda helped when ah was sick when ah was youngah?” Sonia quirked her lips from side to side and handed the device to her Grandmother. She noticed the stern look and quickly focused on speaking properly…whatever that meant. “Why not use it then?”

“Because the price.” Lily replied, taking the device and placing it on the center of her massive desk where the rest of the research for the device lay. “There is always a price for devices such as these. For it to freely heal with no ill side effects is unheard of.”

“But it’s a Quincy gadget, yeah?” Sonia inquired further, her interest in the device peaked. “Maybe the trade-off is only Quincy can use it? Have Quincy blood? Something, right?”

“Maybe…” Lily paused, delicate finger tapping her chin as her eyes rolled skyward as if the ceiling held all the answers for her. “But until I am fully certain of how the device functions it cannot be used. Understood?”

“Yes ma’am.”

Sonia Bond stifled a yawn as she walked down the street, a hand loosely hanging onto a plastic bag that held the food she was planning on cooking later on that evening. The blond stopped a moment as the yawn grew deeper until eventually it became a small roar. She ignored the incredulous looks she got at her display and lightly smacked her lips as half lidded eyes focused on her current path again. She stopped for a moment, her free hand reaching into her pocket and feeling the small device for what felt like the hundredth time that day.

She’d received the trinket from her Grandmother earlier that morning, the old woman having sent it with a Shinigami friend she’d known for decades. Sonia didn’t know the man all that well as he’d never been around when she’d been growing up but he’d given her a fond smile and recalled a time when they did meet, when Sonia the younger had baffled him with her thick New Orleans accent and slew of slang that left him laughing for days after with Lily doing nothing but rolling her eyes. Sonia listened to the story patiently, having to take the Shinigami’s word for it as she didn’t remember the incident at all. But it did tell her that her Grandmother trusted this man, and as such so would she.

The young Quincy took a moment to sit on a park bench, pulling the trinket out and observing it closely. She remembered the conversation they had about it and while this wouldn’t be the first Quincy relic she’d received from her Grandmother it certainly was the strangest considering how the topic of the item ended. Always a price, right? A heavy sigh later and Sonia leaned back on the bench, fingers twirling the device skillfully and deftly. Needless to say ever since she’d gotten the item she’d thought about nothing else, as well as the parting message her Grandmother’s Shinigami friend had given from the old woman when Sonia questioned why she was being given the relic now.

“Just in case.”

“Jes in case, eh?” Sonia slurred as she pocketed the device and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. “Jes had’ta be as cryptic as possible, din’ya?” The blond let out a frustrated sigh as she lit up a smoke and took a drag. “Can’ jes gimmie da an’saw and send me on mah way. Ugh.”

It wasn’t completely unlike Lily to be cryptic, as she often alluded to greater things when talking to Sonia about lesser things. But that usually pertained to her training or some kind of Quincy philosophy that left Sonia pulling her hair out from overthought. When it was truly important Lily was very forward about her intentions, her tone leaving little room for argument. Though, really, that’s how Lily usually was, even to her daughter and son-in-law. The blond leaned her head back and took a minute to blow some smoke rings into the air, watching as they dissipated into nothingness seconds later. Sonia briefly considered calling her parents on the matter but quickly set the thought aside. They were in the middle of a huge business meeting and had been hard at work for the past week on buying out a major competitor and bringing something like this to their attention would distract them. Naw, like a good kid she’d worry them later about menial shit like her health or finding someone to make an honest woman out of her.

“Ye, lata.” Sonia mumbled as she got up and stretched. She picked up the plastic bag containing her dinner and cracked her neck from side to side. “Welp, steak ain’t gonna cook itself. Bettah get on it.”

Tch. What an annoying thing to do, to waste his time to leave Soul Society just to get what he was informed about. While he was not particularly influential, the young man was very informative about both the real and the spiritual world of its recent happenings. Knowledge is what drove this young man to begin climbing the heights that no man can imagine, and receive powers that can, one day, rule over to those who defies him or his family.

It was the time when he was in the barracks of Kido Corps, not yet owning his own set of laboratory, he wanted something more.. constructive, if he had to word it. A machine that can further expand his arsenal and make his Nasods more effective in combat. Leaning against the chair that the young man is sitting on, he was as glued as always to the computer, typing away to research any data that he required to make his weapons stronger. Being stronger himself is pointless if his Nasods and Dynamo is too weak to keep up with his capabilities, so before harnessing his own abilities, the Nasods were the heavy work that needs to be overhauled with new specs that cannot be rivaled against even with the best technologies that is available in the world. It was then he found something of an important detail; the mysterious nameless relic that would be capable of purifying the impure, like that of an angel's power. Within his library of knowledge in his brain, he knew such the existence of the relic but never trusted anything that is not related to science, but for him to found this after giving his research by cracking into the data of one of the 'lower' people in the Gotei and peered into their personal information, the existence of this relic would be confirmed; tracing back all the way to a certain person he was going to kindly meet on the way.

Dressing in a particularly odd way for his design, his looks were intimidating even to looks. White-haired, his eyes were violet-colored, having a weak trail of violet energy that trails right out of his left eye constantly as if there was 'something' in his eye. His looks said enough words about how broken he became from the past, grins constantly breaking on his lips without the need to stop smiling for the entirety of time. It is not because he was crazy, but he found something of an interesting information that really makes his blood jump with joy and that was simply good news for someone who craved for knowledge and something to improve his machines further. That man's name? Not as famous as one may thought him to be, his name is Hisao Yazaki. Crazy but debatable considering he loves and respects the current household that gave him his last name. 'Crazy' though, was his middle name. If he got his hands on that relic, he would be able to purify the energies within his Nasod and give an even more powerful energy source that would be capable of calculating space-time itself, allowing him to truly harness the abilities of both his current state and his shikai as well. Purification is what he needed to create a powerful energy source and this relic was the energy, so he would stop at nothing to pursue that catches his eye.

Just for some time of pointless walking, Hisao finally found the target he was looking for. The shinigami that connected everything to this one point, and the girl he has been yearning to find at this very moment. Ah, what a delight to find such a treasure that really makes his hard work pay off. Seeing that the shinigami has left, Hisao thought of an idea to surprise her with something. Quietly getting closer with the shinigami in a blink of an eye, Hisao took out the young man by lightly knock out his consciousness by applying a short pulse of electromagnetic energy into the forehead to temporarily short-circuit the brain from functioning for a short period of time before he would regain his consciousness. At this time, his Nasods would catch his falling body by his back, arms and legs to prevent any sort of injury, since there are six of Nasods floating around him, one would be available for defensive measures while the rest would safely move this man to follow him as he followed the girl that he was targeting for: Sonia Bond.

Following her all the way to the park, it was the time to show himself before she left. Appearing in a distance but close enough for sight with the young female, the figure of both Hisao and the shinigami that she had met earlier ago would appear before her, but of course, only one of them would be knocked unconsciousness, eh? His hands would be in his pockets, only blurting out the words he needed to say to her to achieve what he needs to do.

"Sonia Bond, is that your name? Well, well, I've done a bit of research on you but let's clear up some introduction, shall we? I just want the relic from you and that's it. Otherwise, this innocent civilian's life might be in danger, you know?"

This was not threatening but a simple negotiation. He has no intentions of killing this man whether or not if she intends to hand it to him. Considering that Bond's family is quite the influential family and a big one too, it was easy to trace it down when he was meddling around with what he has in the information of the people in Gotei. Believing that the background information that the shinigami has regards with one of their relatives, the relic's information can easily be found if he went to meddle with a bit of their.. privacy. It is a laughter though that a family as wealthy as the Bond family had their security easily breached for him to access what he is able to know about them, they are still one tough bunch for him to finally get caught in the wind of the news about the unknown relic's information after a bit of digging was done. After all, he needed the knowledge to improve his Nasods.

"Now, will you play along with me or do you want me to handle this with a 'tad bit of force?"

Just in case. Empty Re: Just in case.

Was this real life?

Sonia was stunned at the sudden appearance of this…person, but really had no words for a few moments as her mind chugged his words through the decade old processor that passed for her brain. She blinked stupidly a few times, her eyes widening a bit as her orbs fell upon the Shinigami who had given her the relic she had in her possession (he’d introduced himself as ‘Lloyd’, but Sonia had doubts that was his real name), before they shifted back to the white haired kid that was dishing out threats like your everyday divorce lawyer. She pursed her lips lightly and dropped her bag, lamenting that she was probably never going to get home and cook her dinner. C'est la vie and all that funky poop.

The Quincy took a moment and pulled the relic from her inside jacket pocket and looked at it a moment. It was wholly unimpressive, just a hexagonal box with intricate carvings on it. It looked like something a hipster boyfriend would get their significant other in an effort to impress them with their unique taste in antiques, or something. If Sonia didn’t know the truth of the item she would have simply passed it up and never thought about it again. But now, within an hour of her acquisition of it, coupled with a mysterious message from her Grandmother that sounded more ominous than anything else she was being threatened for its possession, and the life of a Shinigami she’d never met before that day was on the line because of it.

Following that line of thinking…well, this all sounded like way too much trouble. And if there was anything Sonia disliked heavily it was unnecessary trouble. But…

And there was always one of those, right?

But she was curious. She never did get anything more from her Grandmother on the nature of the relic, other than the ‘purify’ thing. Had Lily found out anything more? And if so, why not email her everything she knew? Lloyd certainly was vague about the whole thing, though Sonia really just brushed off his attitude as a ‘Shinigami’ thing. She hadn’t personally known a whole lot of them growing up but they were always an odd group. Though maybe she was the odd one out because most of the Quincy she knew were odd too, but in that stuck up, irritating way that grated nerves. Shinigami were…well, your traditional odd. Like, weird.

Anyways…

“Why?” Sonia questioned, her whisky-on-the-rocks voice lowering an octave as she tossed the relic up and caught it again. “Ah’ll give it to ya, if’n ya beh needin’ it. Cause ah ain’t gotta use fer it, naw. Mah Nana gave dis ta’me ‘jes in case’, see? But if ya be puttin’ ol’ Lloyd down right dere on da sidewalk, we kin talk, savvy? Jes me an’ you ‘bout dis trinket here. Tell me whatcha know. An’ hell, maybeh ah can help? Neva know, ya?”

It was a gamble but Sonia didn’t want the Shinigami to be hurt and really the white haired kid already looked a few forks short of a fondue set. The Quincy really didn’t want to antagonize him. But her curiosity won out and so she decided that a further note of negotiation would make the situation less hostile. She didn’t know Lloyd from Adam but he was a friend of her Grandmothers. If he got hurt when she could have prevented it Sonia would never forgive herself. The blond held her hands up, the relic held tightly in her hand.

“Truce?”
