Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

It had been too long, and not nearly long enough. Time had a strange way of stretching and contorting when you got as old as Yaksha; he had once realized without much emotion attached that he'd been listening to a song on repeat for a week straight, even when he was sleeping. And now he was looking back, thinking, trying to wrack his brain. So much was happening, lately. He'd met so many people, changed so much, and all of it had come almost without him realizing it. It left him feeling galvanized, every muscle in his body filled with nervous energy.

Was this how it felt, to live life on easy mode? Was this the sensation mortals got from playing their wish-fulfillment video games? He felt so damn strong lately, like it was all unfurling right in front of him, as he watched. And yet, thinking back on it, he was strangely...disappointed. He'd been at this for weeks now, nearly months, and for all the speed it had happened, he'd never quite expected it to be this slow. Had he underestimated the information networks of the Gotei? Of Shadow Fall? Was it really an explanation as simple as expecting too much from the competition? In a way, that was almost disappointing as well. Hadn't he come to Vegas to take a chance, and start really courting with disaster? And yet where was the risk? He was fleecing the rubes every day, and it was so rare people actually worth his time showed up.

Oh, well. All of this was a topic for another time. He adjusted his tie in the mirror, smiling that crooked, insouciant grin that had gotten him so far, and stepped outside, into the spotlights. It was time for another performance, and today he was actually even feeling a little mischievous. As he got onto the stage, he bowed once, deeply, gracefully, and then spoke in a smooth, warm, pleased tone.

"So...anyone have any requests on what to start with? I'm all ears."

As he said this, Yaksha's face and hands could be seen, indeed...slowly and hideously morphing into ears. Dozens upon dozens of ears seemed to bulge and protude from his flesh, as he grinned a toothy, careless smirk of absolute certainty.

THE NEW AGE DEMON KING

RAVAN VESPARA
रा व ण रा क्ष स

Vegas. A small word for such a large meaning. In all truth, the Demon King had no idea what to expect from the moment he arrived - majority of his time since leaving Hell had been spent commanding Shadow Fall's forces, interjecting in hostile takeovers or simply exploring the vast space of Demon World. Yet even among demons the words "Las Vegas" held some notoriety, a common place for humans to drown their woes and blow more money than they make in a years worth of pay. Ravan's interest was drawn to this location for multiple reasons: other than simply wishing to explore the word some more and understand what he was being dragged into, but there was an anonymous tip about a performer of sorts - a being among the Vegas scene which could have provided a worthy ally of Shadow Fall. The only problem the Demon King faced was finding the man in question, not letting his temper get the better of him to outright drop the city into rubble, and find an ally in an unlikely place.

Though it was in the middle of a desert, Ravan's eyes met large overflowing water art, large bursts of water visible from miles into the sky. Flashing lights as far as the eye could see... In truth, he found it rather annoying and distracting. What type of person would look to come to such a place? The solitude of Hell was more preferably than the idiocy of drunken, needlessly eccentric art in the middle of the city. "Can you believe this place? Why the fuck do humans think it's a great idea to be all grand and eccentric?" Tilting his head to the side to let his eyes fall upon a woman clad in white - the other in black, the Hell Beasts of Ravan Vespara. In unison they spoke softly, walking into the midst of a casino. "What? You don't like fun, Ravan? I never would have guessed." They chuckled softly in return. The casino was as loud as outside, if not louder, yelling and drunken buffoons cheering along.

It didn't take long before the three demons were stopped near a stage, bouncers and security overlooking the entire casino. Placing one of their hands on Ravan's shoulder, a switch flipped inside the demon king - and before he could even blink all the bones inside the bouncers arm were shattered, fragments of bone even piercing through his skin. "We have wildly different definition of fun the--" Ravan listened to the screams of the man in the background as his vision fell upon something different, up upon the stage a man who's skin had been warped to show a plethora of ears all across his skin.

Peaking his interest, Ravan stood at the base of the stage as a crowd began to circle around him, the injured man still on the floor. "You can't be the person we're here to see, he wouldn't have such a lame ass power." Standing on either side of him, Kaala and Saphaeda nodded and smiled to Yaksha up upon the stage. Anyone who knew the demon king knew this was just how he acted - for someone new, well, it could be quite an adventure for them to get acquainted.

"... and a Hollow none the less? I've gotten good at identifying your kind since joining Shadow Fall." Clad in black with a mask attached to his waist, Ravan remained still - waiting for a response, attack or otherwise, whatever the man thought was appropriate.

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

"Ooooh, you've -gotten good-! I'm shaking."

His insouciant grin didn't change in the slightest, but he rose a hand and spun it in a lazy, almost absentminded 'move it along' gesture, ears sinking beneath the surface slowly as he did. He took a couple long steps off of the stage, staring at Ravan, and tapping a finger against his chin. He simply observed, for a few long moments. The masks, the natural-born arrogance, the stance...this was a mover and a shaker. A man who -knew- exactly what he was good for, and wouldn't settle for being undersold. Someone that would, almost without a doubt, see through every one of Yaksha's tricks in a heartbeat.

Finally, he'd reeled in a big fish.

"What would you like to see, then? The King of Rock and Roll? The King of Pop? The late great Tupac? Just kidding. Everyone -knows- Tupac hopped on the hollow train! You should've -seen- his last concert!"

He bowed slowly, deeply, and then rose to his full height, rolling his shoulders. "I can neither confirm nor deny your accusations. I signed an NDA, you understand. Standard practice in this day and age."

He turned towards the crowd, raising one finger and smiling apologetically, giving a helpless shrug as he took a few steps away from Ravan, towards the bar area. He shouted over his shoulder, voice carrying with absolute ease, even through the bone-pounding, headache-inducing pulse of some high-tech dubstep eurobeat something or other. It really did disappoint Yaksha, how many people flat-out ignored the classics.

"How can I help you today, King of Hell? I do hope I'm not being too forward by just laying it out on the table like this. I can only assume you count yourself amongst royalty, with that regal cadence, and that lugubrious mien. I've met -a few- demons in my time, but none quite like you. In my experience, that tends to be the way of the world. None of the knowledge and experience in the world can prepare you for meeting, gasp. An actual person."

THE NEW AGE DEMON KING

RAVAN VESPARA
रा व ण रा क्ष स

Ravan found this entire situation curious. Even if someone had warned him that Las Vegas and the man before him were being needlessly eccentric. Although the demon king hated many things, and was frustrated by many more, the loud and pointless need to show yourself off was one of his most hated. Yet that was the entirety of the world he was exposing himself to, people searching for that limelight and getting as much attention as they can. In this casino alone he had already ran into people drinking away their woes, seeking the the attention of the opposite gender and trying to make themselves better than their pathetic life truly was. So even as this Hollow spoke, Yaksha continued to make Ravan doubt whether this was truly worth his presence.

Similarly to Ravan, Kalaa and Saphaeda had moved to either of his side and directed a serious frown. "I didn't come here to intimidate some flamboyant half-wit." Ravan's voice was clearly irate, yet the soothing voice of Kalaa followed. "I really do hope you understand the situation you are in. I'd quit the questions, you're liable to make him angry."

As the screams of the man with a shattered arm began to fade, Ravan simply stood, hands now placed in his pockets as his deep red iris' tracked the hollow. From center stage to directly in front of the demon king, very few people had the gall to simply walk up to Ravan and stare him down as such. Without even an inch of movement, the king's eyes followed as he dragged himself to the bar - and even among the loud, thumping music present, was able to clearly hear his words. With a flick of his wrist, Ravan had sent the order for Kalaa and Saphaeda to scatter and secure the exits. He had no intention of blowing the roof off the casino, the unneeded attention in an already Shadow Fall area seemed unwise. It didn't mean, however, the people present wouldn't be subject to their conversation and potential torment.

"First things first, the only "King" I am is the label Shadow Fall slapped on me. Refer to me as a king of Hell again and I'll remove your tongue, no matter how much it regrows." Ravan followed the Hollow as he made his way towards the bar. By now his Hell Beasts had closed the exits, and the loud music would come to a halt as the twins would put a fist through the stereo system, severing the connection the speakers on two sides of the room. By now all that was heard was the chatter of people, the gambling of drunken idiots and the growing Za Koa that was thumping energy through the very earth the longer Ravan was in this place.

"Meeting a few demons does not prepare you for all of us, as you say. But you best learn quick to adapt, because Shadow Fall wouldn't send someone like me to observe and recruit you unless it was required. His strong frown turned to a small smile at the end, and skipped a chuckle lightly as he spoke of his true intentions. "Believe it or not, causing a ruckus and living so vicariously through a casino is bound to get anybody noticed. Somebody I work with thought you an asset, so I'm really, reaaaaaaallllllly hoping this isn't a waste of time - because I'd honestly hate to..." Ravan stopped to think for a moment, and returned an even bigger smile.

"Ah, hell. I'd love to kill you and everyone in here. So tell me, what could you possibly offer?"

"Not a lot, honestly. You haven't exactly been that open about what it is you want, so my sales pitch would fall somewhat flat. I'm aware this flamboyant lifestyle would attract some impressively big fish. That was pretty much the point of all this. I even expected them to be the sort who would take a perverse glee in wanton destruction. It's just been that kind of millennium."

He waved a hand around himself, fingers gently waggling, and nostrils flaring. He didn't speak for several long moments, simply began to run one hand along the surface of the bar in front of him; the wood grain was faintly gnarled and knotted, with a texture very close to that of stone. It was entirely intoxicating, leaving him lost in his own little word for several long moments, as he spoke slowly, in a tone that was almost...distant.

"Propaganda. Tactical acumen. Plausible deniability. Historical relevance. None of those are things that strike me as the M.O. of Shadow Fall. So by all means, smack me around a bit and make your counter-offer. I'm certain it'll be some variation on the same old tune."

He pursed his lips, beginning to whistle slowly, lazily, seeming to have no concern whatsoever for the true bone-chilling power of the man next to him. It would've taken a poker face that put champions to shame for him to hide his fear at this moment, but there wasn't even the slightest tremble or hesitation in the music, as he filled the area.

"You are young. I couldn't expect you to understand."

Stretching, Ravan slowly placed both arms behind his head, relaxing a bit as his tired voice overcame him. "Well, at least you admit you're flamboyant." Still circling the room, Kala and Saphaeda covered all the exits still - their black and white outfits having their hoods pulled over their faces. "I hate to be the one to prove you right, but you are. Except I'm less interested in wanton destruction and more in the business of removing spines from bodies. Towns can be rebuilt, lives are... typically destroyed. Recycled at best."

Ravan's posture was rather relaxed given his persona, he still spoke with a tired overtone yet the pumping Za Koa surging through the Earth told a different story. Even as the Hollow lackadaisically dragged his hands across the wooden bar, Ravan's thoughts turned to surprise. It wasn't a matter of this man hiding his fear like he was so use to "tough" people doing before he broke their spine. Rather it was an entire lack of it in the first place. Had he dealt with situations like this before? Or was it just part of the charade that he seemed to always cloak himself in? These were questions that needed answering, yet Ravan wasn't exactly sure where to start with this man. Grasping the mask on his waist, Ravan began to straighten his pose and lose that cheeky smile.

"Nah, smacking you around would be too easy. Besides I'm not here to kill you. But I'm now seeing why people have taken an interest in you." Spinning the mask in his hand slightly, Ravan soon placed it up against his face - the giant engraved teeth being at the forefront. Not removing Yaksha from his vision, he began to rest his body on the bar - keeping the thumping Za Koa throughout the Earth the entire time.

"Do you know why I wear this mask?" He inquired, genuinely interested to tell his story.

Hum a Few Bars and I'll Fake It! (Yaksha/Ravan) ByunZ8k

"It isn't because it's supposed to scare my opponents or hide my identity. It's a reminder to me, more than anything. A reminder that I'm nothing more than a monster in the eyes of most people. Being born into Hell, living off the literal death of everyone around you - to wear this mask is to realise the monster that I am." For but a moment, Ravan opened up about himself - he couldn't tell why, nor did he try guess, but he simply now understood why people would take interest in a Hollow such as this. He represented much of what Hollows and Demons did not. He was a strategist, a man with a high profile living blindly through the life of a casino in the most notorious country on Earth. To think this wasn't all an elaborate plan by him would be foolish.

"So you're right. We don't deal in propaganda. We destroy and conquer before it becomes necessary. Historical relevance? It doesn't matter. We're killers. We will kill because it is all we know. My offer to you remains simple - should you wish to explore it." Taking the mask off his face, Ravan placed it back upon the small hook atop his belt. Crossing his arms within that fur-hooded jacket, he spoke of his true intentions - all without the normal threats of death and destruction as he normally would.

"Go to Shadow Fall, learn what it is they do. You have but my perspective, and Demons and Hollows alike seem to find a home - peace - in it. It might not be all about killing like our reputation proceeds. You have a mind many within Shadow Fall lack. To ignore such a growth would be folly." Yet again, he pitched a small grin.

"I have no illusions or lifestyle to hide, maybe it's time you opened your horizons beyond the charade of a casino owner and performer."

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

Yaksha rose his own hand, staring at it with an almost absorbed fascination; he flexed it a few times, watching the muscles twitch and twist, watching the veins faintly bend and then return to their original position as he did so. He remained that way for approximately thirty seconds, before speaking in a weak, almost whimsical tone.

"I did this to myself, you know. I know all the stories of hollows. Tortured souls. Agonized, full of emptiness, longing for something they can't ever get back. Things that deserve to be put out of their own misery. I never saw them that way. Majestic. Respectful. Set. Apophis. Anubis. Khepri. Hollows used to be like unto gods. But...times change, I suppose."

His skin tone began to darken ever so slightly as he spoke, nose and cheekbones reforming slowly, carefully. When it was finished, a man of obvious egyptian descent sat across from Ravan, his head tilting to the side, as he gestured around himself. There was an odd, almost manic gleam there as he plucked up a glass of whiskey, taking a slow sip, and then wincing. He rose a hand to his mouth, stifling a cough for a few moments, and then waving a hand passively through the air.

"Sorry. Esophagus. Think I ended up leading it to my lungs somehow. That wasn't very pleasant. Your offer holds a certain appeal. I can't deny I've been quite curious how exactly Shadow Fall operates. But I think there's one thing about me that you're not quite comprehending."

He adjusted his tie, meeting Ravan's gaze without hesitation, without fear. There was simply a deep, almost limitless sense of zen around him as he spoke. He even reached out a hand, allowing it to hover a mere inch above Ravan's shoulder, as if he were...contemplating touching him, and simply waiting for the right moment. But there was something warm in his gaze and his stance, something filled with a boundless patience, and an earnest desire to hear and be heard.

"You underestimate them. These humans. And this place. It hides a brilliance that you can't comprehend from outside. I've walked among them for a long time, and every year has only made it harder to hate them. They wear masks, too. They can be every bit as monstrous as you or I. Humans truly are...spectacular. So here's my counteroffer."

He folded his hands over his lap, taking another long, deep sip of the alcohol this time, eyes closing as he did so. He stifled the faintest cough this time, hands never moving, and began to move his head from side to side, ever so slightly, as if trying to find some manner of balance...or as if he simply enjoyed the sensation of mass and momentum. As if the very idea of sitting still was almost unpleasant to him now.

"For each day I spend amongst your kind, you spend a day amongst mine. See the sights. Try the cuisine. Test your luck. Let yourself open to the new possibilities. I will be your sherpa, guiding you through this land. We'll learn together. About ourselves, each other. About this fucked up, beautifully twisted world that we inherited."

He opened a single eye, and even with the faint slur in his voice, the crooked motions, it was clear, unmuddied by even the faintest hint of inebriation, or doubt.

"We can start simple. Your name is Ravan, no? I've heard it spoken, betimes. About the...King. Of Shadow Fall. It's a nice name. I considered taking it for myself, once upon a time. It felt a touch arrogant. Perhaps you'd like to guess the name I -did- pick."

THE NEW AGE DEMON KING

RAVAN VESPARA
रा व ण रा क्ष स

Ravan wasn't entirely sure how to take in this entire situation. Ever since being oopened to the Earth a few years ago, he had seen Hollows as nothing but pawns under the banner of Shadow Fall. He wasn't stupid, he had context of their relevance, but none seemed to stand out aside from the fabled Ashlei, a former queen of Hollows, or self proclaimed at any rate. This casino - this location in it's entirety - was nothing but an eye sore. Perhaps it was his lack of people skills, or his unwillingness to talk calmly with most, but he truly didn't understand why this Hollow chose the life. Living among humans, listening to their conversations, their lives. What was the point? Unless there was a strategical value, Ravan failed to see the relevance.

"You did this to yourself? Even you didn't want to remain a human. Hop off your nostalgia train, I don't care if Hollows use to be great. They were only Gods because humans are weak. Easy to be a God among a kingdom of ants." Shaking his head slightly, a look of scorn crossed his face. His voice carried with a croaking undertone, even more so showing his irritation.

His face began to normalize as the Hollow began on his speech, coughing up his lungs (almost quite literally), and shifted his body into the form of a dark skin man. Shape shifting was his go to area of expertise, then? It was strange, but none the less a useful skill to have. As Yaksha's gaze drew upon the king, yet another piercing gaze of anger crossed his face. The hand that extended out towards his shoulder would be met with a flare of Za Koa into the surroundings, leaning up against the back of the bar. All across his face was an irate overtone, as if by body expression alone saying to not touch him. Yet, despite his clear irritated expression, a few words slipped by his mouth.

"Touch me and lose your fucking hand." His expression remained until the hand was guided back, Ravan was definitely glad he used his better judgement. Although this irritated persona was shattered as he spoke of a counter offer, something which not many people would dare to offer in face of a violent and ruthless king like Ravan.

"First things first, I'm not about to be your buddy. And what the hell could this place have to offer me? Other than a bustling head ache and an obnoxious addiction to flashing lights. Try again." Lifting his hands up closer to his chest, Ravan began to pop each finger three times on either hand, followed by his neck. Kala and Saphaeda had secured the exits, albeit the original plan to blow the literal roof off had somewhat... changed with the course of this conversation. He had come here expecting a simple "recruit or die" mission, but what the Hollow talked about was much more interesting than the initial plan. Perhaps there was information to be shared. Yet as much as Yaksha seemed to 'play ball', Ravan could see that he was a rat. Not in persona or power, but could you really trust him?

Ravan had spend a lot of time in Hell, custom with all manner of different beings. He knew the people who would rip your head off by simply looking at them and he knew people who would switch their allegiance like nothing had happened. So where did this Hollow in particular stand? He couldn't quite tell.

"Your name could be 'Shitpile' for all I care. But, for courtesy's sake, I would like to know who I am dealing with. I won't play your stupid guessing games however." Letting out a frustrated huff, his eyes gazed over to Kala and Saphaeda both standing in the distance, their black and white hair respectively covering the main entrance. Returning his gaze, Ravan couldn't help but let out a small laugh.

"You said you had a counter offer, there has to be more to it than being "buddies". Because that's all you fucking said."

Yaksha, The Anthropophagus

"Ravan, you are everything I was promised and nothing more."

The smile on Yaksha's face as he said this was downright delighted, eyes faintly lidded. The explosion of Za Koa was unexpected, and surprisingly potent even by the standards of the people he'd met up to now. He'd dealt with captains and demigods, but never anything like this. He rose, stretching ever so slightly; his shirt rose up, revealing a twisted, gnarled messy patchwork of scars and keloids, just around his naval.

"Vegas has changed remarkably little in the past 400 years, Ravan. Did you know that? Even with the existence of creatures that could single-handedly end the world, even with monsters and demons creeping through the dark of the night...this place endures. If one were the sort to believe in evolution, you'd have to stop and wonder what it is about this place that calls to humans, even now."

He gestured around himself, his stance still relaxed, amused. He reached a hand down his own throat, which seemed to elongate and stretch horribly, the shape of his own hand outlined against it as he rooted around inside, as if finding something. His other hand rose a single finger; an oddly polite gesture, as he seemed utterly absorbed in the act of searching for something, until one could see him yanking...something from his stomach. It was an enormous, shapeless glob of white gunk at first, something that one would've thought of as a towel, or a streamer of cloth. But the very last thing to slip out was a white-taloned claw, nearly large enough to crush a man's head within it.

As soon as the...thing struck the floor, the body in front of Ravan seemed to dissolve, in some hideous stop-motion animation, into an enormous pile of snow. The white, shapeless blob began to extend arms, legs, finally unfurling a head...which had a very long ponytail at the back, oddly enough. The creature staring at Ravan looked strikingly like a snake, and as it rose, it met Ravan's gaze with that same wretched cool that his guest had exhibited the entire time.

"Gigai are, without a doubt, one of the best inventions of the Gotei. It's why I had it at the very top of my list of assets to procure. No one wants to have a conversation with a monster, even in the city of lights. Don't they know the monsters only come out at night?"

A deep, throaty chuckle escaped from his throat, as he bowed towards the king of the Demons, his voice taking on a sing-song tone. It had lost a bit of the previous richness, to be replaced with a sibilant, almost hissing cadence. All the same, it was impossible to deny this was both the same man Ravan had pulled off stage...and the picture-perfect example of a hollow. Except for those eyes. They were expressive, and thoughtful, to a degree one never would've expected from a wild animal.

"I am the Lizard King. I can do anything!"
