NAGOSHI KANAE

After spending a few days in recovery, Nagoshi Kanae had immediately set out to getting to know her new division. True to Arkin's word her predecessor had left nothing worth noting in the Captain's office and indeed nothing at all, besides blood on his haori. Having no personal possessions made decorating her office a simple process for Kanae who opted to just replace her predecessor's name plate and chair.

Office decorations were merely step one in taking over the Fourth, now Kanae was interested in seeing what kind of people were in 2123's version of the Combat Division. In her time the Eleventh Squad was full of some of the most bloodthirsty and brutal Shinigami imaginable, though she was certain this wouldn't still be true based on all the other changes she had observed in Soul Society.

Apparently her Vice Captain was on a leave of absence. Instead of dwelling too much on her annoyance at this reality, Kanae instead decided to use it as an opportunity to shake things up in the squad. She would disseminate the changes' details at the assembly announced for today in the training yard. Now she stood at the far end of the yard, clad in her new Captain's haori, as they didn't still have hers from a thousand years ago, waiting as the large crowd gathering before her continued to grow.

11 - Getting to Know the Fourth [Fourth Division Meeting] 6EdIfMt

Well...ah. This was awkward. In just over a few months it felt like Tento had been away from the fighting fourth division for months. All to come home to the neews that the section of the Gotei United was most certainly doing what they were famed for. Fighting! "Ugh...", he held a hand on the back of his neck. Rubbing slightly with a pop as he stretched his head upward behind several closed doors that lead to the training yard. "What a drag...".

It was work enough with the joint event between the Gotei United and Venderbich. It was tough but enjoyable, really got his blood flowing. But then! Suit hit the fan. A Hollow invasion on an unimaginable level occurred, causing all hands on deck to be sent to the world of the living. Due to a Quicy and fellow Soul reapers aid, Tento was able to slay a particularly dangerous Hollow. With not many people getting hurt or dying too! But...that soon went south at the appearance of an unimaginable Arrancar.

So many people died.

He kicked! Open the first door. Walking with a raging swagger unbecoming of Tento...well being Tento. Too weak....I was...too weak to...do anything. His hands stretched out, gripping the pants legs of his uniform in a bloodthirsty hungry grip. So many civilians. So many comrades. Just washed away in a rain of fire. He wanted to defeat HER. Enemies of her level. He pushed open the second door.

That is why he felt even more agitated by all this. Getting g called back for this? He was hurt sure but he still fight! This was not the time for a challenge of Captaincy during this time. Even more so by someone who had been gone for thousands of years and was a criminal. Regardless of her strength, the fact that she was able to go toe to toe with the likes of Captain....ex-Captain Arkin and win. Was a mark of extordinary difference, but such a warrior should have the insight to note the possibility instability shift. What the heck Arkin was going to do now?? Well..at least he wasn't dead. Tento pushed the third down.

Standing in the path her walked to the center of the field. Being one of the first of the division to trickle in. Presenting as the 15th...ah...10th seat of the 4th division. And he gave me this promotion just before the fight. Man.... this sucks I didn't get to thank him or...why. So many battles with Arrancars and Hollows over a short period of time. But...he had a feeling this would be a beast on a whole other level...

RIO SHIHOIN

Rio had expected many things after joining the combat division, but a sudden shift in captaincy certainly was far from her list of expectations. Arkin was no longer spearheading the division; his replacement was Nagoshi Kanae. The public records had made it explicitly clear that the woman had ended up in prison for what was deemed as a lover's quarrel, with the woman murdering her husband in cold blood.

She was a criminal, but Rio was not particularly one to judge someone based on their past, for so as long as she intended to treat the combat division with honor and respect, Rio would gladly conduct her duties as the fighting fourth's third seat. If not... well, perhaps she would have to challenge the woman for captaincy at some point. Still, that was neither here nor there, and the summons to visit and meet the new captain of the fourth was an ideal way to develop an opinion of the woman for their first meeting.

Making her way to the assembly, Rio would stride through the courtyard with a graceful elegance in her stride, and a stalwart aura emanating from her form. Her gaze was firm, poised as she cast her amber eyes towards her captain. Nagoshi Kanae. What type of woman was she? Bowing for the sake of cordiality, she remained silent as she observed the woman from a distance.

MACHIHARA MOE | The Bubblegum Oni

Moe had been there watching when her old Captain had been defeated. One of the countless faces in the crowd then, just as she was now. It had been a hell of a performance, Arkin and this Kanae taking chunk after chunk out of one another, and yet it was the challenger that had triumphed. The Immortal was still immortal, she supposed, but humbled into defeat. Perhaps her squadmates thought of her as callous for being so dismissive about Arkin's defeat, some were quite devoted to the ideals that he had stood for, but he had lost all the same.

It was hardly like this newcomer was going to shake things up any more than the last captain had done anyway. Moe had heard the rumours about her being a bigwig from thousands of years ago, and that she was a convicted murderer, but surely that was all bluster. There was no way the Captain Commander would let someone that deranged take over this place. The Fighting Fourth would remain as it always had. A good place for fighting. She was sure of it.

Spotting a much more familiar face, Moe wriggled and squeezed her way through the crowd until she was at Rio's side. She nudged her a little and offered a cheery smile. The pink-haired Shinigami contrasted quite severely with the Shihoin's sudden intensity, a spring in her step as she finally got a chance to hang out with her friend whilst at work. It was nice to see her outside of their lunchtime dates, after all, and Moe didn't want Rio to start thinking that she was just in it for the food.

CAPTAIN NAGOSHI KANAE

As the remaining members of her division poured in Kanae remained stoically staring in the opposite direction. Her plain captain's haori hung on her shoulders as the Jigokuchō styled pin prevented her sable hair from hanging over it. She couldn't help but be reminded of her last tenure as a captain. Back then the ways of the Gotei Thirteen were far more unforgiving and brutal. Soldiers and officers were fodder for captains to do with as they pleased. Should a thousand fall in battle, a thousand would replace them. There would be no tears shed for them. All that mattered were survival and victory.

Once she sensed the full available might of the Fourth Division lined up behind her, Kanae turned on her heel and faced them. Disgusting. She had to actively fight grimacing as the smorgasbord of Shinigami came into view. No scars, no ferocity, no thirst for blood emanating from these people. Though she herself wasn't the most physically intimidating person in Soul Society, as a woman of above average height with a thin, though full, frame, her demeanor and spiritual presence were both predatory in nature. Even though she could be called beautiful, the almost-soullessly coldness to her features made clear she isn't just a pretty face. Even as she restricted the killing intent and blood thirst in her Reiatsu Kanae still gave off an air of danger matching her position's predecessors.

"A week ago I challenged and defeated your captain for his rank. I won." Kanae allowed a few seconds to go by to let these words sink in. They all knew this to be true, but knowing something and seeing it were two different things. "I am Nagoshi Kanae, your new captain. Change is coming to the Fourth. The values of this Division will reflect those of its namesake, the Gotei Thirteen's Eleventh. Before that however..." She then turned her focus directly to Tentō, and her voice boomed as she spoke to and about him "Tenth Seat Tentō Zefā. Step forward."

With the final in flow of bodies. It seemed like the gang was all here. A bit of a few new faces, some old. And some that Tento had no idea of. A lot, of some he had no idea of. His eyes went to each of them as they came in though, an attempt yo become more familiar of what he was about of. Who he was fighting and doing his duty alongside. Sadly one person he noted was missing. But a new face he did notice! The new recruit that did well in that tournament. Lady Moe. Oh? And there was someone she was moving next to. Another new face.

He heard his name called. Well... he took a step forward. Arms held at his side, posture strong, head held up and formed. "Present Captain".

RIO SHIHOIN

In response to the nudge in her arm, Rio's fierce gaze faltered when presented with the cheery atmosphere of her fellow squadmate, Moe. They had grown accustomed to one another's company thanks to all those lunch dates she had promised, but it was certainly nice to see her on duty, too. Was it particularly nice today? Perhaps, not entirely so. Still, she offered her friend a smile, ruffling her hair a bit as she grinned.

The atmosphere was tense, and the aura Kanae radiated was undoubtedly palpable enough for Rio to reaffirm her fierce gaze. Even now, there is nothing equivalent to a good feeling about her, and her words don't do much to lessen that. Change. Replacing the current division's methods with the outdated and barbaric mentality of the eleventh division. Now, she calls Tento forward, and Rio quietly waits with anticipation. What else does this woman have in mind? How will it effect the people she now considers her peers?

MACHIHARA MOE | The Bubblegum Oni

Moe beamed a smile back at Rio as she took notice of her, though playfully pouted as the woman toyed with her diminutive size a little. Others might have been thrown on their ass for even trying such a stunt, but Moe had a pleasant enough rapport with Rio that she escaped the fury of the small Shinigami today. Whether she could actually toss Rio like that did not even cross her mind.

Seeing Tento get called out, Moe's ears parked up again and she cast a wary gaze in the tenth seat's direction. Spotting the officer glancing in her direction, she turned her smile in his direction for a moment and allowed him to savour her downright overflowing positive energy. He had sent her an encouraging little letter, after all, so the least she could do was return that good vibe!

CAPTAIN NAGOSHI KANAE

Kanae withheld her first instinct to grimace as the Tenth Seat stepped up. Fighting her contempt for others was often a difficult battle for her, but in this case she was finding at least enough success not to outwardly appear as hateful as she feels. "Tentō Zefā. Recently you fought Hollows in the Living World. According to reports, you did so courageously and enthusiastically. For your distinguished service, on behalf of the Fourth Division and Gotei, you are receiving a commendation with a monetary incentive attached. The whole division would do well to follow your example."

After quieting again Kanae tossed a small medal to Tentō on which the Fourth's emblem and Shibantai were engraved. She then waved Tentō away, signifying he should step back to the rest of the squad. Kanae quickly turned her attention to the next person of focus, a dark-skinned woman of Noble birth still a recent addition to her Division "Next, Rio Shihoin. Step forward." She allowed the young Shinigami a moment to do as commanded before addressing the entire squad again "As you all may or may not be aware, Vice Captain Hanako Yamada is on a leave of absence. While she will retain her position, I cannot allow the Fourth to continue without an active Vice Captain. For this reason, as of today I am naming Rio Shihoin as Co-Vice Captain. In the Shibantai, power is rewarded. Vice Captain Shihoin, do your best as a warrior and leader." She made the promotion official by tossing a wrapped Vice Captain armband to the woman.

With that out of the way, Kanae turned in placed and faced away from the squad. She allowed a full minute of silence to pass before moving onto the next subject. It was time to discuss the policy changes to the squad. "The Gotei United's Fourth Division is the spiritual successor to the Gotei Thirteen's Eleventh Division. From the time of the Gotei's founding, the Fighting Eleventh was always known as the most terrifying, brutal force in Soul Society. If the Gotei needed a problem fixed, other squads could be called upon. If it needed a problem removed, regardless of circumstances or losses, your predecessors would get the job done. You all are Soul Society's sword and shield, a tool to destroy and defend. As the Shibantai, death is our only concern: ours or theirs. Wars are won or lost on how strongly you all embody this spirit of the Fourth."

RIO SHIHOIN

Quietly observing Kanae as she spoke to Tento, Rio's opinion of the woman shifted ever so slightly, but that certainly didn't make her gaze any less pointed. At the very least, she respected that Tento's efforts were acknowledged by the new captain. After watching her toss a medal towards him, Rio would offer a smile in his general direction, a voiceless congratulation for now, but she'd speak to him soon enough. She had to get familiar with her fellow division members, after all.

Her attention was quickly brought back to Kanae once the woman called her name, though. Walking with purpose, she stepped toward the woman, golden eyes observing her with curiosity now. Kanae spoke at length about Hanako's absence, and how she wished to have an active vice-captain. Rio certainly understood the unease, but to say she expected to be granted a promotion so soon would have been preposterous. Rio blinked softly, visibly surprised by the decision. Rio was certainly strong enough to fulfill the position, yes, but she didn't expect to attain it so fast. She was wholly content with third seat, but now it was time to be the vice-captain now. A quick turn of events.

After receiving the Vice-Captain's badge, Rio would bow to Kanae, honored to be chosen for the position.

"I will do my best, Captain Kanae."

With that, she stepped back with everyone else, resuming her position at Moe's side as she listened to the woman speak. As a woman who was a sword and shield for her own family, she could certainly acknowledge her words on some level. She didn't know how she felt about it being named the Shibantai, but if everyone else approved of it, then little would her complaint. At the very least, she was good at offering a convincing speech.
