• Personality:
Nanami has a strange mix of a personality. Gentle is one of the first impressions Nanami makes on people. She is a somewhat subdued woman with a soft voice. As long as you are not directly opposing her, hindering her, or generally antagonizing her she will more or less remain this way. However, those that have seen her in combat know the truth of this frail looking woman; she is a ruthless combatant. Those weaker than her are nothing but weeds, and weeding is one of her favorite hobbies. While she may have a soft voice, when she wants it to be it can be intimidating as any war cry because of the utter lack of remorse in it; when she looks at you and wants you dead, she sees not a person but a weed. She lacks a certain amount of empathy with others in some ways, such as in the issue of pain. In life she lived under a constant pain because of her own frail body and its inability to cope with her own strength; this remains true even after her death. As such, she has little understanding of other’s pain as she has learned to cope with her own pain to such a degree. She has stated once that her brother used to have the annoying habit of biting his finger nails; she helped him with this problem by pulling his nails out. Beyond these things, in life she sought one who could kill her to release her from her pain. Having succeeded in that goal only to be rewarded with more of the same she now drifts idly, a flower on the wind with no goal of her own…yet.

• Background:
Nanami’s story is a strange and somewhat tragic one. She was born a sickly child, and her parents were told it was highly unlikely she would manage to live far beyond her birth. However, her body had other plans and she survived her sickliness though she never truly overcame it. Her parents saw this as a sign of a monster, and omen of things to come, and it was in a subconscious way drilled into the young Nanami’s head that it would have been better if she had died.

Nanami was not the child of just anyone, however. She was the daughter of the Sixth Head of the Kyotouryu sword school, a style of swordsmanship that used no swords. Instead, it focused on turning oneself into the sword; an open-hand sword destroying style. Her father had been a war hero who had helped to settle the warring states period, and then had been banished because he was a danger even to the ones who had used him. Nanami was at first decided to be the next head of the school.

Then her ability came to light; even in life, Nanami held the exceedingly dangerous ability to learn simply by seeing techniques performed. When he father learned of this, he decided that she could not be the next head of the Kyotouryu because he was simply not strong enough to train her. Her younger brother was made the next head, and Nanami was not officially trained in the style. That said, she slipped off after her brother and father, and watched them. And thus she learned the entirety of the style unknown to any others.

The short of it from there is that she lived with her brother and father after her mother’s death, and then after the death of her father at the hands of her brother. That was the way it was supposed to be however; there can only be one living head of the Kyotouryu, one true sword. After that, a woman came and took her brother on a quest to claim a series of dangerous swords. Nanami was at one point targeted by a group of Ninja’s who her brother had crossed; she killed them all and took their ninnpou (ninja techniques) along with the information about how poorly (in her mind) her brother was doing on his quest. Thus, she left their small island home.

She claimed one of the blades for herself, Bita, and waited till her brother came to collect it. After two battles, she was finally given the gift she had been denied her entire life; death. She fell to the hands of her bother at the feet of the sword Buddha, content knowing her brother had been sharpened once more for the trials ahead. This was where her story ended, or so she thought. She was wrong, however. She came to the Soul Society, and learned of how the world more or less kept on spinning even in death. She retained her memories and her extraordinary ability in death, and was at one point converted into an Iramasha. She would later discover another ability she had gained in death. Yet she had no goal; death had been granted to her and it had not relieved her pain. She had no reason to believe that dying again would be any different. As such, she now simply exists as a flower on the wind. She will one day find a goal though, as all do, and then those small hands will draw blood again.

All Seeing Eye
Nanami’s greatest ability. Put simply, Nanami is a genius when it comes to combat and learning to the point that upon seeing nearly any technique once, she is capable of utilizing the technique. Upon seeing it used a second time, she is capable of mastering the technique. However, she is not capable of utilizing a technique that is tied to a specific item or trait. IE: while she may be capable of seeing how Byakuya uses Sebonzakura, she herself is not capable of producing Sebonzakura to utilizing the techniques. If she were to somehow come into possession of a weapon that mimicked Sebonzakura or was similar in application, she would then be capable of utilizing the learned technique.

Rosetta Stone
Nanami’s only other “power,” it has a rather simple and yet dangerous function. Nanami’s spiritual power is unlike any other, in that it is simply energy in a basic form. She is capable of manipulating it into nearly any type of energy to fuel the techniques she sees.

”Weakened” Body
Nanami’s body possesses a strange contradiction. She is only capable of sustaining combat conditions for a short amount of time before she becomes exhausted and unable to continue fighting, signifying a weak constitution. Yet, she is capable of recovering from severe wounds and poisons given enough time. It is as though her body refuses to allow her to die. This means that while she is devastating in quick bursts of combat, prolonged conflict will result in her lapsing into unconsciousness.
