Old doors, old doors right in the middle of Karakura Forest. There were no walls to a building but simply old doors. They weren't old so much as they were traditional. The wood did appear worn but the varnishing was well kept and the paper windows were without a single tear or hole. They were sliding doors, double sided. The one parted smoothly while the other had a little jiggle and bump. With it came the fresh blast of warm evening air and in return the door gave the forest 3 beautiful butterflies, darker than the night itself. A breath, the world of the living always did smell different from the world of spirits. Takiya's ears perked up first, picking up the lazing droning of cicadas. It wasn't quite fully dark yet with just enough son to blaze the horizon with a peachy brush stroke. His dull green eyes adjusted to the lighting before they scanned his surroundings.

Karakura Forest. It had been a while since he had last been here. The last time he had set his foot on the forest had been very different. The grass had been hot from fresh blood and the trees had been stunted from death and decay. But time seemed to do this forest well. What was a field of self righteous executions was now a gold mine for bug life enthusiasts. Takiya stepped out onto the grass and with that the door had closed and disappeared. Yes, it really was different. The smell of pine and occassional common flowers were in the air. Hmm. Takiya looked at his hands, the fading light cast shadows on them but they appeared to be clean.

Now, what had caused him to return to this place? Two butterflies found their way through the forest and would soon return with more of its brother and sisters. Yes. That was why. Several Shinigami officers had not returned from a scouting mission in Karakura forest. Normally it would have been the job of a different division but numbers were stretched thin in the Gotei Regiment. Genji had been asked to help and that was why he was here. 3 Lost Shinigami, what happened to them, were they still alive, if not, then why. Their butterflies were still around, so they or their bodies should at least be around here somewhere.

His head turned right and then left, his black hair gently following his movements. He guessed he needed to start somewhere. His left hand found the hilt of Tenryuubito, turning it from its standard safe grip and letting the hilt face outwards. It was unlike 3 shinigami officers to go missing without any form of reporting. Letting out a soft and short sigh, the Shinigami Lieutenant made his way through the forest in search of the missing Shinigami.

It did not take long for Takiya to find the missing Shinigami. One lay against a tree eyes rolled back, another lay flat on the ground eyes rolled back and foam on his mouth. The last was kneeling on the ground, head tilted downwards. His eyes observed the bodies first, dead they definitely were, void of any spirit. Yet interesting point, the first two bodies still had their Zanpakutō sheathed, dead before they even realised they were under attack? Poison? No, the last had drawn his Zanpakutō half way before dying on both his knees. So, they had been under attack. But no blood. His dull sea green eyes faced the same direction the 3 had once faced. Darkness in the trees.

Just another insect. UYnK5VAt

Sometimes, curiosity was more then worth it.

When her crystals had caught something - a reverb of power - in her fields, she had gone. And she had hid herself, like a worthless human, and listened as three shinigami officiers died. She wasn't close enough to see them, not yet, but she shook her head, waiting for the presence to fade. Tilting her head, she smiled, ferociously, before walking over much closer, knowing there would be more shinigami soon. Some time passed before a crystal vibrated in her pocket, catching sign of one of those soul society gates forming, and she touched it to soothe it. A little hum from her lips, and her anima stone washed over her. Seishin-tekina shōshitsu, Spiritual Vanishment. It covered her from anyone's spiritual senses, and even changed her wave length. Now, she was just a normal human, as she easily slid into her gigai. There, the deception was ready, but perhaps it was more out of boredom then anything else that she was doing this.

She hadn't killed them, but she hadn't helped them either.

So she hid behind a tree, even as the butterflies touched the world, trying to understand. And then slowly, they guided a male to them. He inspected, and now, like any good mystery, he needed the witness to the crime. Schooling her expression, she suddenly rushed out of the bush, her face pure anxiety. ''Sir, sir! It isn't safe here, you musn't be here!'' she said, speaking hurriedly. She stumbled as she ran, but caught herself and finally ended up near him, crystal blue eyes wide with worry. ''You really can't be here! You have to leave, please sir, you don't have much time!'' she added, her fingers twisting with each other. Softly, the edge of her blue eyes were brimmed with tears, as if she was truly afraid.

But that was just her, the arrancar, making a mockery, to draw the shinigami into whatever was going on here. To have a little fun. Not that he would know that, as gigai and her skill ensured her spiritual power, and signature, felt like she was human. So long as she didn't use her powers, and kept playing the damsel, she was fine. And when she finally got to the bottom of whatever happened here, and claimed whatever she could use and bring the rest back with her, she would take care of the little pawn she had picked up. But for now, let's enjoy the play as it unfolds.

Perhaps this assignment required a more scientific approach. His naked eyes could not pick up any clues nor could his keen spiritual senses pick up any residual of the attacks. His mind sought through his library, did he personally know anyone in the forensics department? Getting through to his division to patch to the Research Department and then to someone who could come out to the field. The hassle was too much. He considered sending a hell butterfly back to the Gotei to get his division members out and quaritine the place. However he dismissed the idea, what lurked in these woods, he might not be able to deal with it. 3 dead was enough for the count. Takiya took a step forward, he might as well investigate the surroundings.

''Sir, sir! It isn't safe here, you musn't be here!''

From the first cries of Sir, his body had flipped around, his legs parted and left foot positioned to balance out his weight. His body tilted, strong side against the threat and his hand on the hilt of Tenryuubito. his blue eyes were wide and alert. His instincts had told him to draw the blade but another side of him prevented from doing so. The war was over he told himself. It was just a human. Though his hand released the swordmans grip, there was still but an ill feeling about what was going on here.

''You really can't be here! You have to leave, please sir, you don't have much time!''

His hand remained still on the fabric of his weapon. He might not have been a forensics expert but he was no idiot. She had no spiritual pressure about her, absolutely nothing, giving off nothing than being a normal human being. Yet, there she stood in front of him paced out perhaps about 4 to 5 meters out, looking at him, talking to him, pleaing to him with those blue eyes. How was she able to see his spiritual body with no visible or latent ability to souls such as himself? He had no clear answer to this strange phenomena. For now he would observe her, taking in the tears she wept from fear? She cautioned him of the place, that he was short of time.

Genji's mind flooded with both information of the situation as well as memories. There had been cases where those appearing to be allies turned out to be the enemies in disguise. Many posing as helpless beings before taking the life of his unexpected comrades. At these memories began to repaint themselves on the greying memory Takiya's fingers slowly began to curl around his Zanpakutō hilt. His eyes narrowed, his own blue green eyes staring into the crying eyes.

Hatred began to build inside of him, like a slow fire creeping dangerously towards a mass of repressed feelings. This hatred was not directed towards the blue eyed human girl. No, it was more towards the gleeful faces of skulls as they sank their fangs into the very people who had tried to help them. His better side, the Scholar side warranted his caution but would advise a clear mind. Takiya did not loosen the grip on his Zanpakutō, if need be he would answer trechery with steel.

"Relax, take a deep breathe Miss. What is going on?"

His voice was his usual, calm, collected. His voice would not betray his mind and his aggressive stance was not without any reason. 3 dead from an unknown cause and unknown force. Raptors were common especially after war. Remnants of chaos who prey on the weak for sport. Until Takiya was sure what this was and who she was he would not drop his guard. How would he face the deceased if he died now. Yes, play it safe.
