"Get up, get out there." The thought resonated in the back of his mind as he slowly traipsed through familiar streets. It was still a marvel to him that such a small town ended up becoming one of the largest spiritual hubs in the world, all because of the actions surrounding one human that gained Shinigami powers hundreds of years ago. He shook his head and chuckled to himself, sliding hands into his pockets and yawning some, looking at the sky above and the edges of the dome that surrounded the city above. It seemed that five years had changed little about this city, at least.

Tapping his feet lightly against the ground, Dai hummed a soft tune to himself as he walked - it wasn't loud enough to be noticed unless you were listening for it, so he figured he wouldn't get called out for it. He wondered on the state of politics in the world now, his place in such a world and wondered if coming back was really a good idea. Perhaps it was no longer his time to be around; perhaps it would be better if he just faded into obscurity - yet plainly there was a reason as to why he had been resurrected, and not just the whim of some foolish power above his own. Sure, he may have been killed in a mentally harrowing way, but he didn't believe there were presently any lasting effects - well the loss of some abilities that he knew was a little frustrating, but not so crippling. The fire theme was different as well.

Yawning a bit, he certainly wasn't aware of the watchful eyes or the sensors that were being levied his way, nor would he be cognizant of the messages being sent through secured channels from this realm to the next, with one message behind them: "Familiar energy signature detected. Rogue Shinigami. Post-Captain level."

Being sent to Karakura Central was not a common situation for Malia, but when she saw the opportunity she had to go for it. Her last mission didn't end the best, so a regular post for hollow management was welcomed. She needed to keep her senses sharp. The city being the central spiritual hub that it was meant that there were many forces keeping a watching eye on it. There were eyes on the outskirts, within the city, and on the citizens of the spiritual city. Some of these eyes were malicious, but others belonged to guardians.

This part of town wasn't the most populated. Instead of traversing the many roofs, Malia was traveling by foot through the street. She had her soul phone on hand, waiting for the possibility of an alert. She had only gotten one since her arrival, most others being taken out by fellow Shinigami or some powerful citizens. Since her job here was lighter than she originally expected, or wanted, Malia was more interested in taking in the sights. She wandered from shop to shop, doing little more than window shopping.

Mali's attention was caught when a message came in, but she didn't get the chance to listen to it. As it was playing, she turned a corner and bumped into something red, cutting off the last couple of words of the message. "Ah, shit. Sorry about that." she apologized and quickly regained her composure.

Bump. In most situations, he'd have hardly noticed that kind of hit. It didn't hurt, her barely felt it, and most people would just continue walking along without recognising that they'd collided with someone. This one, however, actually stopped and began to speak with him. It took him a moment to recognise her as another Shinigami; after all, Dai was not wandering around in a gigai, he was completely spiritual. He blinked a couple of times as he apologised at her, tilting his head to the side and taking her in. She was young, seemed a little green - or at least happy to be here. He wondered.

Yawning softly, Dai stepped back slightly and gave a slow, but sharp bow, "No need to apologise; we were both lapsing in attention." He gave her a soft, kind smile and nodded his head at her, noticing the soul phone in her possession. It seemed that a message had been played, and Dai wondered what that message would be about. He hoped it wasn't himself; he'd been careful to cover his tracks wherever he had gone. His mind began running at a mile a minute, immediately watching for any potential attackers. He tried his best to keep that off of his face, however, continuing to smile at her.

"So what brings you here? I can't fathom it's the weather," he chuckled.

What seemed to be nothing to this man she suddenly bumped into, was almost like walking into a wall for someone like Malia. After a moment passed, she even felt the need to rub her arm, as if she had been struck. What the hell was he? It took her a bit longer to realize that he was a Shinigami. Since she had caught the first half of the message that she was being sent about a rogue Shinigami, Malia wondered if this was him. If it was, she was going to have to approach this carefully to find out the truth and bring him in.

"O-Oh. Well thank you. Many end up trying to yell at me or something... Assholes call you rude even after you apologize, like people aren't allowed to make mistakes. Guess I got to the point of expecting that."

Though she tried to hide it, to an eye trained better than her ability to lie, Malia became a bit more tense and alert. It was like she was ready to fight at any moment. Since his smile seemed sincere, it put her a bit at ease. He didn't seem hostile and didn't look like he had any dark intent. The message likely wasn't about him, but she had to be sure. His momentary glance around did make her a bit suspicious of him. What exactly was he looking at? Malia slid her phone back into her pocket. She was going play the message again later.

"Definitely not the weather. Ha. I'm actually on duty in the city. Just looking out for the usual creeps that I have to take down. Karakura is a bit more guarded than most cities, so it's not often that those types are able to just walk through undetected. It's a central spiritual hub, ya know? So there are many eyes making sure to keep the place safe. So, what about you?"

He tilted his head lightly to the side, watching her carefully and quietly, wondering exactly what kind of person she was, what her abilities were, whether she was combat-proficient, everything of that sort. He watched this because he knew that if he had to fight, he would need to take her down swiftly and non-lethally. He had no intention of killing a Shinigami just doing what they were ordered to, merely because they were ordered to deal with him.

He sighed. Was that what he really wanted to do though? Keep running away from his past? He continued to watch her as she spoke of being on patrol throughout, and he nodded in understanding. He remembered the days where he had to patrol - they were days he tended to enjoy when in Karakura, merely because Karakura was such a quiet place. The days before he was the way he was. When she finished speaking, he opened his mouth and spoke a response.

"Ah, I get that. Plenty of eyes around, plenty of high-powered beings just itching to get into a fight against interlopers and aggressors. Luckily I have no intention of trying my luck there," he scratched the back of his head idly, "As for my own intentions, well I don't know yet. I've been... around. Had a rather perilous injury recently," he decided that avoiding the words I recently came back from the dead was in his best interests, "And so I've mostly been recuperating from that. Lots of napping in Karakura Forest." He nodded. If she tried to discern anything, she'd definitely pick up that he was hiding something, but seemed mostly honest.

There was a brief moment when he was talking that Malia's stomach tensed, but his claim to not want a fight helped her calm. Her mind ran wild, wondering whether she was going to be fighting this man, bringing him in, or whether he could destroy her. She couldn't tell any of it and it was annoying. There was something off about him. Her thoughts were interrupted by his napping. She raised an eyebrow in disbelief.

"That's not exactly the safes-... Well, no it might be. There is so much security within the city and watching around it that... Yeah, whatever. Haha. You said you're recovering from an injury? You look alright to me. And what do you mean you've just... 'been around.' That's a weird way for one to explain what they've been doing If I didn't know better, I'd say you were lying about something Am I gonna have to take you in?"

Was it meant as a joke? Or was she serious? Was she fishing for information? Did she trust him? Was she being friendly? Well, the answer to all of those questions really was just 'yes.' There wasn't much else she could do. As she was getting a message about a rogue Shinigami, she sort of just bumped into someone who could possibly be that person. Only one way to find out.
