Why Even? [Morpheus]

The sounds of panting erupted from the doge girl's mouth as she stopped her running in an open area. This is what she had been looking for. For about an hour now. And for the past 15 minutes she had done nothing but running. The amount of pain she was feeling in her chest and lungs made her just want to rip herself open right then and there. But the sounds of several Hollows roaring behind her made her stand upright and spin around to defend herself. As the hollows emerged, she noted they were simply low level adjuchas. Nothing special, but nothing to mess with at her level of power. Surely there was some way to get out of this, but as she saw them start encircling her it became apparent that she wasn't going to get away easy.

With a scoff, she extended her arm to hold out her hand, a red glow emanating from her palm. A hollow jumped at her and the first thing it got was a bullet of pure reiatsu to the face. It was enough to knock it back, but after Rachael aimed at him some of the others assumed she wasn't paying attention to them. One charged her, and the other leaped off to the side before jumping directly at her so they could take her from both sides. Much to their surprise, Rachael leaped forwards just as they grabbed for her, bending forwards in the air and placing her hands on the ground. One push and a grunt later, Rachael landed elegantly from the flip as a long red saber-shaped weapon formed in her hand. It looked to made of a glassy substance, like the bullet that Rachael had shot at the Hollow before.

"Little shits..." grumbled the doge, panting lightly. Spinning around to look at the Hollows, Rachael held her weapon up at the ready and assumed a stance that heavily resembled one a Samurai would take on. "Come at me fuckers, I dare ya!"

They took exception to that, much to Rachael's disliking. All five of them charged her, and if it weren't for the fact she could enhance her limbs with her aura, she would be dead. Just as quickly as she had sprung forwards before, she leaped several stories into the air as the saber like weapon extended into a spear, and with one quick swing of the arm Rachael flung the weapon straight down into one of the skulls of the Hollows. Piercing the skull with ease, the weapon dissipated just as the Hollow itself followed along in disappearing into nothingness. The other Hollows stared for a second before looking back up to Rachael, only to notice she was gone.

"Dumbass."

And that was the last thing the Hollow heard before he too was pierced through the skull by a sword. Before the others could react, the doge girl was several meters away and on one knee. If it wasn't clear from her heavy breaths and plenty of sweat, the girl was plenty tired. Still, she alone was a force to be reckoned with. They weren't exactly sure why, either. She was just as strong as all of them individually, yet they weren't able to match her speed or power. Whispers told Rachael that they were conversing, probably on a way to get to her. Really they were just giving her time to rest.

Hayden was sprinting his way through the forest at high speeds damn near shunpoing a bit to make his way to the massive bursts of reiatsu being released within the forest. This was bad, really bad, he felt adjuchas in the area and that was never a good thing. He also felt a non-hollow like energy that seemed human but none the less plenty of energy, if he left this unattended this could turn a bloodbath in the hollow favor. His mind raced with thoughts such as why there was even adjuchas in the area- while there was an increase in hollow activity he never thought they would come out in a pack like this. None the less, he was bound to check it out and protect whoever needed the help- as was his duty to that of humanity.

As he sprinted through the forest he felt a shift in energy as if the hollows had lost one or two of their own. He was glad to at least feel this decrease in the hollows power but this did add another bit of worry as to who this person might be, friend or foe? As he thought his eyes shifted around to check the area to make sure their was no other enemies or hidden reiatsu’s which thankfully so far there was not. However, he blamed that on the massive bursts of energy scaring off much weaker hollows and he couldn’t blame them to be honest.

‘Lets hope whoever is holding their own means more good then harm,’ he thought with a sigh before resuming focusing on the task at hand. He couldn’t allow this to go unchecked, it was a matter of honor. Plus a life hung in the balance so that added to the stress placed on his shoulders.

As he neared the scene of battle he felt the reitasu growing much stronger as the battle was ragin, he felt another source of reiatsu disperse most likely the hollows. This was good again as whoever it was could hold their own. But as he burst into the clearing he finally saw the sight at hand. It was strange to say the least, it appeared to be two adjuchas left with a mid tier hollow follower and what seemed to be some tired human doge girl. Well that was not what he expected to come out to as he readied his blade instantly activating his shunpo his blade beginning to crackle to life as a bolt of lightning struck it. He had to activate his sealed abilities to deal with this situation before it got out of hand.

As he moved at a much faster speed of someone of his level due to his adeptness at Hoho along with just his speed in general, he would be able to cleanly slice through the hollow mask as a large arc of lightning exploded on contact with the hollow. What was once a hollow was now dispersed Hollow particles in the air, his blade crackling and booming from the recent attack. He knew he needed to get on the girl side so he kept his momentum before speeding past her jumping on a tree branch now that his presence was known.

“You Adjuchas dare step foot in my post!? I will see you ended for your crimes against humanity!” He exclaimed with a slight smirk pointing the crackling claymore with one hand, it seemed he had a pair on him.

The sounds of lightning crackling and swords cutting through flesh caused Rachael to jerk her head around to look at the source. Her eyes caught sight of a man, clearly a shinigami by the reiatsu released from him, chopping an adjuchas clean in half with seemingly minimal effort. The power of the electricity from his sword probably helped. The fact that he jumped up onto a nearby branch and pointed at his sword while shouting about his post and whatnot made Rachael a little aggravated.

"Show off." the doge muttered under her breath to where the man couldn't hear. If she wanted to anger one of the Shinigami and possibly the entire Vanguard she would have said it a lot more audibly. That would be saved for a later day when she was possibly on the Vanguard though. Possibly. There were no guarantees and it would be an instance moreso where she was forced onto it. With a certain friend of hers, that was very likely possible. It was the only reason she thought about it right now, why she cared about angering someone on the Vanguard. As much as she hated people she needed any and all first impressions to be much more positive. She really hated the concept of giving a damn about it but she didn't necessarily have a choice. In an instant, she felt something shift, and with a swift leap backwards, she narrowly avoided the swipe from an adjuchas who wielded scythe-like hands. Landing underneath the branch the man stood on, Rachael sighed and lowered her spiritual energies in such a way that made her seem like she was giving up. Sitting down, the doge sighed and just leaned against the tree while closing her eyes and letting her sore muscles rest.

"Go get 'em tiger." Groaned the doge unenthusiastically. The adjuchas looked at both of them wearily and started strafing, trying to cover as much separate ground as they could. It seemed they were actually trying to act strategically now, making them seem like much more formidable opponents. Maybe now they would actually start trying.

Hayden's stance shifted ever so slightly as he adjusted his grip on his blade as the large Zanpakutō went to his left side with his left hand facing down as he gripped the hilt and his right hand going up. He took on the classic ‘near ward’ stance as he stared the Adjuchas down, his Zanpakutō pulsing with energy as lightning whistled and crackled off it. He wanted to end them quickly without to much trouble, if he wanted to that he would need to use his speed to his advantage. Taking a step forward he pushed off the branch seeing the Doge girl take a resting stance under him, so she would let him be doing all the work? He suppose that was fair she seemed to be tired and fatigue from whatever she was dealing with yesterday.

As his flash step activated he turned to a blur as he shifted his stance heading directly for the Adjuchas with the pincers, knowing he might be quick enough to parry or even dodge it he slowed his speed to where he would have time to counter- but he would faint to the left to dodge whatever the Adjuchas may throw at the man. It was a simple but effective trick most of the time when dealing with people you’ve never fought before who haven’t gauged to speed or skill- particularly useful against Hollows as sometimes they were not the smartest people. His arms shifted as he brought the blade upwards in a slash intending to bisect the Adjuchas, hopefully the Adjuchas would have left itself open from his faint.

After their encounter Hayden would jump to the right to get away from the Adjucha(s) depending on if the one he had attempted to Bisect was still alive. He closed his fist beginning to focus his lightning reiatsu into his arm forming what looked to be some sort of Lance, lightning Reiatsu rippling and bursting from his arm as the harden cast form. It seemed he was already preparing his next attack.

Hayden fisted closed tightly as light began to shine from his arm as the energy began to raise so bright it became almost blinding to some, the shocks sparking off his entire arm as the reiatsu solidified. Small arcs of lightning ripped off his arm as the energy stabilized itself a small tint to the blue energy was black, a hint towards the Death Matter inside his very heart which empowered the young Shinigami. A Smile began to spread on his lips as he remained low, holding his Zanpakutō in his right hand the large claymore like blade digging into the ground slightly before his eyes shifted to the feeling of power suddenly whirling behind him. It looked like Doge girl was not completely out for the count yet in fact it seemed she had some hidden things up her sleeves, good he liked that. As he began to see the scarlet energy pulse and begin to gather his eyes turned on the Hollows, it seemed he acted as only a distraction to them so the girl could perform her own little play. He began to laugh slightly as he began to feel the energy whirling towards the general area of the Hollows, he couldn’t let her have all the fun.

The Shinigami moved at a speed that the girl would find hard to track, his shunpo was boosted by his advance speed as he pushed his arm forward the lance rippling with energy and power as it struck the Mantis in the face exploding after it pierced it’s mask. He felt the explosion next to him, able to maintain his footing as the flames spread around him leaving the ground scorched and two other hollows now nothing but reishi, his robes now tattered and scorched with a few scrapes over his face and body but he appeared to be fine. The muscle clad Shinigami looked over to the last Hollow his eyes burning with a sort of lust, a lust that had taken over him as he appeared behind the lower class adjuchas. In a moment his blade pierced through the stomach of the Adjuchas before dragging it upwards effortlessly before it could struggle, it’s body screeching as it began to disperse into reishi now that it was bisected and it’s life lover. He remained still a moment before lifting his blade shifting it to his back and on his sheathe.

He took a calm breath as he felt his energy began to calm down, he had let out a lot of reiatsu so for just a brief moment the Doge girl would have felt just how secretly powerful this Shinigami was. His movements and ease with his Zanpakutō where downright baffling for a normal soldier of the Vanguard, his movements had been when he wanted them to be barely detectable to the Doge girl. He sighed before looking up at the sky thinking about how he would approach the girl before turning his head over to her, beginning to step over to her looking down at her before kneeling.

“That was quite some power you had back there, I’m Hayden what’s your name if I can ask?” He asked softly his deep voice having for now a softness and smoothness to it that matched the aura around him. He seemed like a protagonist type a man, a hero in a world that didn’t want one- it was how naiveness showed in a way. He wanted to help people and it might be his downfall.

“Why are you out here? It’s dangerous- would you mind me escorting you back to town? I can’t leave you out by yourself.” He frowned slightly waiting for her reply.

Rachael looked up at the man as he finished the other two Hollows in a way that was, still to the doge, very flashy and unnecessary. Rachael didn't care if she sounded like a hypocrite. It was unexplainable as to why, but it still irked her that this man was being just as flashy as her. Maybe even moreso. A thought arose in the little doge girl's mind that she was just a tad jealous, but the thought was quickly banished with a scowl. Just thinking about it upset her. As the man came over to introduce himself and state that he would like to escort her back to town, Rachael could only look up at the man and blink.

"Just leave." the doge uttered as a low canine growl erupted from her throat. She really didn't want to be escorted home like some seven year old. If her entire body wasn't so sore from expending most of her reiatsu, she would just walk home. "Just... let me rest..."

Closing her eyes, Rachael did her best to keep herself from panting. Anything to make herself look less exhausted than she was. A few seconds passed and the girl found herself failing miserably in her task. The pain coursing through her body and the lack of energy was far too intense. It felt like her whole being was on fire. Yet she still found herself standing up less than a minute later to actually walk back to town. Slowly pushing herself upwards, Rachael tried to put most of her weight on her arms so as to keep her balance. The moment her hands left the ground and she had to support herself on just her legs, the doge nearly fell over. Her thighs ached and her calves felt like they were about to catch fire from the pain. Rachael could only grind her teeth and seeth in pain as she kept standing upright. It was difficult, more difficult than it was the last time she did this. Maybe because she went overboard today. And now she was stuck like this. The day she actually felt like exercising was also the day that she had to meet this man. This stranger she didn't give a damn about that was pestering her like she couldn't hold her own. How annoying.

Standing completely upright, Rachael turned around and sighed, looking towards Karakura. It was withing a fair distance, not bad for walking, but she assumed it would take an hour. Great. An hour with this fuckhead. Rachael was absolutely ecstatic. Not. The only thing Rachael could do was get angrier and angrier as she thought more and more about the fact that she had to walk around with this thing behind her. Disgusting. Taking a step forwards, Rachael started on the long trek home, completely livid that she had to deal with this on what was such a nice day. If she could shoot herself she would have.

This girl was more stubborn and petty then most of the humans he knew but to be fair that was quite a small list. But as she stood up shakily and could barely walk he sighed resting his hand on the hilt of his Zanpakutō resting it on his shoulder slightly as he followed her going on alert. It was bad enough that they were in the dense Karakura forest, despite the massive operation they had undertaken to clean it out there was still the stranglers or those who managed to hide within the forest and get the job on people like the adjuchas they just dealt with. The girl hadn’t even given him her name deciding to be more stubborn than anything else, but as they walked he turned her head to look at her before seeing.. that tail. It was so fluffy.

“So.. you should tell me your name.. also what's with the tail, it’s so fluffy.” He commented as they walked throughout the forest remaining just barely behind her as he walked. He shifted his weight as the clanking of his Zanpakutō was heard indicating his pace was steady but matching her’s with easy effort. Mostly cause she could barely walk. However, he kept a sharp eye out as they transversed the forest slowly making sure that there spiritual pressure was kept low enough that hollows would simply not bother with them- any of them that attack would swiftly be ended however.

“You had some skills back there- you should consider joining the Vanguard, can get plenty of combat out of that.” He informed her with a slight whistle, she seemed to have some sort of combat lust about her that he found interesting. To say the least, she might be able to prove to be a good future soldier- he respected combat capable people but the moment she wanted to start talking mess he’d throw down. Hopfully she would be careful about her words to him- the hand of justice is unisex as they say. That is if they entered combat.

Rachael felt like she was going to explode in impatience as she listened to the man talk and ask questions. It made the girl's already shaking body shiver in agonizing anger almost as much as she was from sheer exhaustion. The comment on her tail made her ears flatten against her head. The mere question of why she had it reminded her of the times in which she was a lab rat along with all those kids. It was terrible, dispicable, the exact reason why Rachael was such a stubborn, petty bitch. She had a poor upbringing with parents that claimed to love her yet still purposefully experimented on her in a way that traumatized her near permanently. She had a sister who was a sadistic murderer, and was constantly mocked and teased for her doge parts. The mere thought of all of it made her want to just blow up on the man and curse him out for even making her remember. Yet somehow she still managed to keep what little cool she had left.

"I was my parent's lab experiment." was all she muttered at the question about her tail. Nothing else was said, no other words, noises or the like were uttered and she just kept on walking despite her muscles screaming at her to take a god damn break already. A suggestion about joining the vanguard was made and Rachael could only let out a heavily exasperated sigh in return. If it wasn't obvious from that little gesture as to how much she despised the idea, she didn't know what was.

"Fuck off." was all she said. "I get enough of that from my parents and my sister lecturing me like I'm 7." And after that, her tail drooped, almost between her legs as she hopped elegantly over the roots of a tree. Now was not the time to be bugging her about her life choices. Nor was it ever the time to ask her to join an organization about helping people. Rachael despised people.

Hayden listened to the angry woman silent before coughing silently at what she said and told him. It wasn’t hard to make out how she was feeling from the general movements of her ears and tail, he actually felt a tad bit bad now that he had said something to her- he hadn’t meant to upset her he was slightly.. socially inept. Maybe she would catch onto that sooner or later, cause honestly it seemed when it came to combat the man was much better at dealing with things, he had damn near handled those adjuchas by himself just for the fun of it. But he knew this young girl had potential to join the vanguard- perhaps that sadistic lust could be directed in a more positive fashion. Maybe.

As Hayden began to leave his thoughts he figured out that they had arrived in the town, his eyes looking at various buildings. They were all relatively skinny and bunched together like the many houses of Karakura, to be frank his home was the same way. He let out a yawn before slipping his Zanpakutō back into it’s sheathe slowly following the girl still- she hadn’t dismissed him and he wanted her to be ok. As much of a bitch she was he still had an obligation to make sure she arrived safely. Ugh. He hated following these ‘gentlemen’ rules Azure placed on him.
