☀Rudi! and the sunny beach!☀

Rudi loved the ocean. It was vast, vast like the sands of Heuco Mundo, but they weren't sands. It was water. Endless, endless water, a giant pool to swim in, to fish, to float and stare to the eternal sky and wonder and revel in the glory of the world, of the newness of it all the only way a child can. He reveled in the childhood before adulthood rendered all of this old news, a sky seen again and again, an ocean that is a view normalized beyond its beauty.

He dreamed sometimes, of standing at the edge of a vast ocean, falling and falling, and falling, and waking up just before his body struck water. And someone would begin to catch him, someone large and strong, with gloved hands and a mask not unlike the one curled around his neck.

Rudi blinked out of his daydream, just to deal with a wave rushing him off his feet and into the sand unexpectedly. He shouted as the water threatened to tear him from the beach and to drown in the ocean. Mercifully, it relinquished him to the wet sands, coughing and shivering.

The water was cold! As it should be, it was December but Rudi didn't pay attention to the calendar.

He dragged himself away from the shuddering waves, out into the sandy beach, shivering and shaking all the way. His reiatsu dense tail flicked back and forth, as if trying to shake the water droplets off its surface, even though it had accrued no water. The rest of him, however, was sopping wet. Unpleasant.

Rudi began to crawl out from the beach and onto some rocks, brushing the snow from the surface of a particularly large boulder, brushing the snow from its surface and trying to dry himself off in the sickly, weak sun. These beaches weren't very warm, he found. Perhaps he should pay attention to the temperature before going for a swim... perhaps in some other part of the world, the beaches would be warm.

But it wasn't as if Rudi would learn which ones were and weren't. It was lucky he was too dead to catch a cold.

The Quincy Prodigy

Sofia Montero

Song: N/a STUFF - Artist: N/A STUFF - Words: N/A

Winter was quite decisively her least favorite season. With enhanced spiritual energy came the ability withstand temperatures and environments most saw as unruly, but there was only so much spiritual energy could do. One still needed to lighten up on clothes when the heat was too much, and dolly up on them when it neared the freezing points. The struggles and the inopportune notions of wearing layers upon layers of clothes just went against everything she enjoyed. It got in the way of her training. It made playing her musical instruments a pain. And it plain and simply took too long to put on and take off. Winter was definitely the season she enjoyed only after it had passed, and the one she disliked so soon as the first sneeze, and the first drop in temperatures called for more clothing than she was comfortable and used to wearing.

”The nerve. No wonder people get sick.”

In hopes of peace, solitude, and a better chance to clear her mind, Sofia had decided to travel closer to the beach. Perhaps it was due to the sight, the winds, or the atmosphere mingled with the subtle colder winds of December. Quite frankly she hadn’t expected to see anyone. The beach wasn’t the most friendly or popular spots during the winter months. But alas, on her way there she had actually seen a few. A few guys, likely in their late teens, and even a couple, inebriated by their own love and other substances that made their judgement even less acceptable. What drew her interest laid elsewhere however. Spiritual energy was a common thing. With so many beings from so many races it was actually difficult to find someone who couldn’t see other beings, and by extension that didn’t possess enough energy to be noticeable. That’s where the similarities stopped however. Beings of peculiar nature and who possessed enough energy to be noticeably different in a crowd were by all means, rare.

Not far from where she stood, she could feel a subtle but noticeable spiritual signal from a being very much unlike herself. The strange way reishi behaved around the location made it an obvious assumption it wasn’t a Quincy. From her battles, it was a good assumption it wasn’t a Shinigami or a Demon. In fact, despite the non violent and largely erratic feeling it gave off, it seemed to be very much Hollow like. In perhaps, a few seconds, the two beings would be within seeing distance of each other. The Hollow being would likely be able to see and sense her as well as she had made no intention to hide her own energy. Though very obviously Quincy, she didn’t seem to display an intent that seemed violent for the time being. Some of the most recent encounters she had left her a bit more open and accepting of others. She still had the inclination to be violent at a moment’s notice, especially to the Hollow kind, but only if prompted to.

”Is that a kid? So cute!”

She would find herself, not quite running but walking very rapidly instead. She didn’t make it so obvious as to be confused with some deranged weirdo, but she was very obviously happy. For the most part Sofia had a clear like for children, at least the well behaved. They were simply so adorable, innocent, and nice for the most part. Unruly spoiled children didn’t receive the same treatment however. Those that behaved in that nature seemed to receive the same treatment she reserved for adults, as they could testify, it was not good at all.

☀Rudi! and the sunny beach!☀

Someone was approaching. Someone strong. His tail swished back and forth, then pointed to Sofia's general direction in a vague gesture, as if indicating Rudi's taken notice of her. She's stronger than him, and therefore dangerous. Rudi's small body tensed up as she approached, although it may just as well have been the cold.

Rudi's dagger wasn't primed. This was bad. If she approached to harm him, she might overpower him, be faster than him... maybe he couldn't run... maybe he...

Her facial expression dissipated his unconscious anxieties. Her expression was one of a caring mother, gentle, kind, and openly cooing at a young boy such as he. It reminded him of a life long gone, and he seemed to relax a lot more at her presence as she walked quickly towards her. He was still soaked to the bone with the freezing water, and the sun was doing him no favors in drying himself.

He moved to smile back to her adoring gaze, but one hand rested loosely on his knife. Just in case... just in case... He seemed to do this unconsciously, without really knowing what he was doing. His tail swished back and forth slowly, like a cat anticipating a pounce.

"Hi I'm Rudi! What's your name, Miss? Do you got a towel please? I fell in the water..."

The Dark Quincy

Sofia Montero

Song: N/a STUFF - Artist: N/A STUFF - Words: N/A

”I’m sorry little buddy, I don’t have one. But we can get one!”

With children, much like with adults, Sofia oftentimes gave the benefit of the doubt. The child would be adorable, cute and sweet until the time at which, if ever, she was proven to be wrong. The loving, immaculately docile side of her was not seen very often because as it turned out, people did indeed disappoint her more often than not.

”Come on, let’s get you somewhere.”

Extending a hand to him, she would try and take him by the wrist. Nothing forceful and nothing that seemed to indicate malicious intent. It wasn’t even done with enough force to warrant moving away. But alas, had the child wanted it, getting away from her would have been relatively simple. She had already figured out that he was an Arrancar, but the appearances far outweighed any sense she might’ve had if he looked differently. In the last few months, the Quincy had gotten the chance to meet rather odd members of the Hollow kind. As it turned out, not all of them were as black and white in their efforts to strike evil and pain onto others. And while the trend did continue to lean towards their own feelings of inequity, the child seemed harmless to begin with.

If allowed, Sofia would lead him to a beach house, not far from where they were. Even during times when tourism ran low, the beach house still sold some snacks and even items that would come in handy like towels and the sort. Despite the innocent look of the boy, she could feel quite a lot of spiritual potential within him. It didn’t do anything to change her mind however. After all, just because one had the potential to be strong didn’t mean the same individual was so easily given into fighting, and by extension, to use it in an ill manner. Even if she were to find truly heinous beings, Sofia wasn’t at a point where she could judge others as freely as she once did. With her own mentality slipping, she was at a point where her own thoughts, her loyalty, and the way she would go about her goals in the months to come could change in an instant.

On that day, the Quincy prodigy had chosen to wear a white top, with a very Quincy-like blue skirt that went just about upper thigh length. A set of black gloves and matching black thigh highs and boots finished off the look. On her hands, besides the small limb from her petite cutie friend, she held a blank notebook. It was likely something she meant to write down thoughts on, perhaps even a new musical piece to try out, or something else entirely. The boy didn’t need to worry about paying for the towel however. The Montero family still possessed a lot of wealth for quite a lot of centuries to come.

☀Rudi! and the sunny beach!☀

The lady didn't tell him her name. This wasn't too big of a deal- except that he had told her his. This law of equivalent exchange (in Rudi's mind) went unanswered, but her kindness made up for it.

His Perquisa told him that she may not be a human... not a shinigami or arrancar either... He's never met a quincy before, and oddly enough seemed to have no instinctive fear of her, either. In a fairly un-hollow-like fashion, Rudi went on with whatever she said and told him to do, simply because she seemed nice enough.

She seemed to have no problem taking him to a beach house and offering to let him use some towels available there. Rudi got the fluffiest one he could find and began to dry himself even before Sofia had the opportunity to pay for it- no doubt to the chagrin of the shop owner. Rudi, being too young to understand such things as consequence or reasonability, proceeded to dry off his hair and face and limbs first.

He hmmed a bit. His clothes were still sopping wet! This won't do. He approached Sofia again, the now slightly damp towel wrapped around his small neck. He reached up and tugged at her sleeve, gently but insistent. "Hey, can I have some other clothes? These ones are soaked. I thought the water wouldn't reach me but it did... Water is scary."

It finally dawned on her that though the boy would be dry, his clothes were still very much wet. Certainly wasn’t the best scenario to keep him flu-free. And though most of the time the Quincy had with her some form of jacket, usually styled to fit the stipulations of the Wandenreich uniform, this was the one time she hadn’t. Sure she could offer her own top and simply wear the towel herself, but the implications of doing so went well beyond reason, and invited thoughts of a nature that were not easily welcomed yet.

”Just hold off for a minute. Change out of your clothes and wrap up in the towel, I will get you some clothes quickly sweetie.”

Upon saying so, she would point at the restroom not far from them. During the current season it was unlikely anyone else but them and the shopkeeper were around. And regardless, Sofia was close enough to come to him should he need to. If he did indeed go into the restroom, he’d be able to notice Sofia speaking to the shopkeeper. As it turned out, downtown wasn’t very far. In fact, it was strategically located just a couple blocks away from them. A purposely made attempt to lure in tourists to spend some more of their cash after vacationing at the beach and the surrounding resorts. A quick visit to the nearest clothing store, and likely some food afterwards was bound to make the boy’s expression brighten up further.

So soon as Rudi had walked out, Sofia would welcome him back once more, extending her hand and leading him elsewhere. ”I’m Sofia by the way, but you can call me however you’d like.”

It was indeed the proposition as she had never given anyone the luxury of choosing or even allowing them to make a nickname for her. It had always been Sofia, and never once did anyone dare to try and make a different name, however friendly, out of fear of upsetting or awakening the monster within.

”There’s a kid’s clothing store pretty close and some restaurants and chocolate shops right around it. What’s your favorite color honey?”

She had it all figured out in her mind. Sort of. A tee and a pair of cute shorts, or perhaps even a one piece, and some nicely designed cute boots to match. It was rare that the Quincy prodigy got to enjoy herself in such an odd fashion. Enjoyment for her usually stemmed either from music and performing the latter among her fans, or combat. The idea of a child, either one of her own or someone else’s were thoughts that seemed distant and that had hardly ever been entertained. It wouldn’t be long until the unique couple reached the store, Witty Wonders. The store had a rather odd name, but it didn’t take long until she realized the meaning behind it. It was made after a store in a very popular magically centered movie called, Larry Motter, where a Human suddenly found out his late parents were Shinigami, and he was on the death list of a bunch of dangerous Hollow. It wasn’t the most friendly of movies to all spiritual races, but the well written sense of adventure seemed to appeal to most nonetheless. The store was supposed to carry all manners of clothes, but each had very unique effects, like self tying shoes and so on.

”Pick whichever you like most!” While she had her own mind set, Sofia was quite interested in seeing the boy’s own taste, and if required, place her own bias down in helping him reach a decision.

Rudi! and the kind Sofia!

Sofia brought him into a touristy shop, still open even in this kind of terrible weather. Got him a fluffy towel and encouraged him to undress. He knew some form of modesty was required from his limited socialization, and so withdrew to a more private location towards the back of the shop near where the bathrooms were. He shortly came out with a large towel that covered everything between his midsection and thighs. He left his soaked clothes neatly on the floor beside him, not sure what else to do with them.

As it turned out, his necklace, which looked like a mask mimicking a fox skull, was not removable and in fact stayed right where it was, welded to his skin. This was likely his mask fragment. What struck out the most, however, was the fist-sized hole that replaced his bellybutton. One could see the wall behind him right through this hole, and labeled him very very clearly as an arrancar. The shopkeeper looked to Sofia in a tone that was part warning, part worry. A civilian probably had never met an arrancar before, save for knowing their escapades in the Sinfall organization.

Rudi did nothing harmful, waiting patiently until Sofia came back. The shopkeeper continued, in fact, giving Sofia warning looks that they were prepared to call authorities if Rudi did anything particularly dangerous. Rudi took a moment to adequately intake Sofia's name. Sofia. Alright then. He could work with that name. "Can I call you Miss Sophie?"

Then, she asked for his favorite color. This one was much harder. He put his hand on his chin, closing his eyes, and thinking about his time on Hueco Mundo. There weren't many colors in that land, just the white of the sands, the black of the sky, and the color of combat...

"...Red." He answered at last, with some finality, an odd and somewhat disquieting smile on his features as he answered. It then shifted into something harmless once more. "But you can pick if you think I'd be more handsome with another color.

The Dark Quincy

Sofia Montero

Song: N/a STUFF - Artist: N/A STUFF - Words: N/A

The bone skull the boy displayed was peculiar enough on its own. Though unique and rather fitting for such a petite little thing, she was used to them resembling remnants of what used to shroud their own visage. She wasn’t aware of any Hollow that possessed the stigma of their past as anything else more than that. But alas, she didn’t make a fuss about it. She had long gotten over the hurdle of the nature of his own race. At one point, it would’ve been cause for concern, confrontation and likely a rather violent outcome regardless of his innocent look. But, with the changes the Quincy had undergone, and with the way her mindset had been warped and perhaps even evolved to feel a different way and see most themes in a different fashion, she could hardly think of anything other than how cute the little boy before her was.

Before they had left the beach store, Sofia had given several nods of understanding to the shopkeeper. She was in some way, acquainted with the reason and the source of his concern. But despite appearances, she was quite readily capable of handling almost anything that came her way. Almost. The boy had shown no malicious intent, and there was no reason to believe he could be capable of such. But, if he ever did, it wasn’t entirely off the books to believe she would be willing and ready to respond accordingly despite the adorable look and the warmth enticing emotions his presence created.

”Yea, Sophie sounds just right!”

Kneeling before him, she couldn’t help herself and tried to pinch his cheeks, pulling them ever so lightly. It certainly wasn’t enough to induce pain or so she believed. That however meant nothing in regards to how someone might feel about something they would either not care about or otherwise find somewhat annoying or irritating. Standing up straight once more, she would pat down her skirt and extend a hand to the boy, wanting to walk into the store hand in hand. Even if the attendants were to see his Hollow hole, the sight would at least relieve some or so she thought.

”Red eh? Sure thing.”

She didn’t really looked a lot into the meaning of his choice or why he liked what he did. It was just a color. It could’ve been because of roses, because of blood, or just because too many people liked the color blue. In her mind, regardless of the reason, it wasn’t all that important. She had met enough people and seen enough weird and scarring things where even if the motive surprised her, it would likely do quite little to leave an impression that was lasting.

Walking to a rather colorful and neatly organized area, the Quincy would pull out a small hoodie. It was small for her but it seemed as though it could fit Rudi just fine. It looked as though it was plain gray, with no designs or colors to speak off. But, if he were to put it on, he would witness the hoodie adjusting to his own size, and extending or shrinking to fit. Beyond that, the clothing had the uniquely made design to change the hue of its fabric through the spiritual design and will of its wearer. As such, should the wearer will or want the item to be black or blue or yellow, it would. It was likely the attempt to cater to the increasingly large and popular market of spiritual creatures in a fashion sense and a way that appealed to most. As an extra bonus, every now and then, a set of eyes and a large grinning smile would appear at the front of the hoodie, a homage to a very lively and strange cat from a rather popular but old book known as Ada in Funland.

”Well, isn’t that just lovely…”

She was very clearly in awe of how cute the hoodie looked, and she could only imagined it would look that much better on him. Since it was just a top, he could likely change there, and just keep the towel wrapped around the bottom. Otherwise, she would simply walk him to the nearest change room instead. It wasn’t before she grabbed a pair of rather cute light brown self tying shoes, and a brand of ebony black shorts that seemed like they were made to procure the best f comfort on the wearer.

”Let me know how you like them dear.”

Rudi! and the magic sweater!

Rudi flailed a bit as his cheeks were pinched. Like everything else about Rudi, his skin was very soft to the touch- if a little cold now due to the encounter with water and the lack of natural body heat his body produced. Though he made no effort to stop her, his face crinkled cutely with a mixture of embarrassment and annoyance as she played with him.

Then she took his hand and took him to the clothing store. Hmm. There were so many nice colors! Cute dresses he thought he could rock, as well as excellent t-shirts with cute sayings on them. Many of the shirts were covered in logos of favorite superheros or supervillans, and Rudi was quite excited to get to pretend to be a hero!

And then Sofia pulled out a seemingly grey-looking, plain sweater. Rudi's skepticism was labeled on his face easily enough, a deep frown. His pink-red eyes looked from the plain, boring sweater and Sofia's smiling face again and again... This woman had such weird tastes... who wears a grey sweater with black shorts? No excitement, there! No pizzaz! He wrinkled his nose, and sighed.

Sofia was his friend, and one should listen to nice adults at least. He nodded and looked for, then ducked into a changing room. Unbeknowest to him, Sofia and he were being watched by one of the attendants fairly closely... in case something went poorly.

Rudi eventually came out of the dressing room looking a little baffled. The plain grey sweater had turned black as night, with a pattern that almost made it look like he was wearing fur, save for several white markings around his middle that looked disconcertingly almost like ribs.

Also, the sweater seemed a little big for the boy! In fact, it looked like it was trying to fit an adult male in size, and thus he looked comically small in such a big sweater. This was a little strange- the sweater was made to adapt based on the spiritual energy of the wearer after all, why would it mistake Rudi for an adult?

"Um... miss Sofie... it got big..." He flailed the oversized sleeves, completely obscuring his hands. He pointed to another sweater, a deep red with a lightningbolt on the center- an obvious homage to the super-fast superhero. "Can I have that one instead? I think this one is... weird! Magical, kinda! It's magic sweater but I think I broke it? The shorts fit, though! Yeeey!"

He grinned to her, all pearly-white and a little too sharp for humanity. With a burst of supernatural speed, he took a sweater off the rack and sped back into the changeroom, coming back out with the superhero hoodie and the now-plain-again sweater, which he handed to her. He spun slightly, examining how his tail poked out from under the hoodie bottom.
