The Anti-social (Ame) Empty The Anti-social (Ame)

Thu Aug 19, 2021 8:21 am
It was about half past in the Soul Society... Well a little after that. The sun slowly descend from its center position in the sky and people carried on about their business. Later in the day dusk was starting to set, the vibrant colors of the horizon displayed with great magnificence. It was awe-inspiring and clearly looked like a painting in the sky, but that couldn't be said for one individual who was waiting around in a training yard of the fourth division.

That one individual was none other than Amon Breach, a newer Shinigami who had little experience and the most basic of training. He was basic enough to have an Asauchi and not a proper Zanpacto, however that day would come sometime later. He was waiting around, knowing well he completely forgot to ask one Hanako where exactly they should meet up. That sai Amon would wait patiently, half-impatiently for his sparring partner... If they show up. At this point he sort of prayed but had a suspicion that he'd get stood up like many other times.

"Hopefully she shows," Amon said to himself as he leaned against a wall, "Don't wanna stand out here like a jackass."

Amon was me er really the nervous type unless around large crowds. His social skills sucked as much as his power did, but this little get together was different. This was more or less a way for the guy to get to know people, most importantly, he didn't need to stay solitary for too long. It wasn't good for mental health nor operations where he'd be on a team that required constant chatter.

"Don't worry." A voice said from the entrance. "She will."

It was Hanako, who just happened to arrive at the very same moment Amon had talked to himself. It was by chance, with no intention to eavesdrop. It showed in Hansko's voice, her words were neutral, maybe even friendly, and her message a matter of fact. Because here she was, keeping a promise. One should always keep their promises.

She parked a bag she had carried over her shoulder next to the wall. In it were some bottles of water and some eupeptic snacks. She wore her usual, sleeveless Shihakusho with her Lieutenant's badge tied to her obi. Her Zanpakuto, Bakumusha, was on her left side, also tucked into her obi.

"I'd like to concentrate on sword combat, nothing else." Hanako said.
"I think you have far more potential than you might realise yourself. Maybe we can uncover some of it. Also...the road to finally hearing Bakumusha and meeting him for the first time began like this as well: pushing my abilities with the sword until it was so familiar to me that it was like an extension of my arm. I assume this is one of your major goals right now? I can understand this very well. How you probably feel about it as well. That's why I'd like to help you."

She hesitated a moment and after a quick thought Habako untied the badge and stuffed it into the bag. She had decided that this training would be much more comfortable if they were simply two Shinigami, two equals.

She stepped into the center of the yard, her left hand on the sheath of the sword, although it wasn't loosened yet.

"Do you have any questions before we start or shall we jump straight in?"

Amon quickly looked up to see Hanako entering the area. He straightened up almost immediately, compared to her uniform Amon had found a pair of gym shorts and a plain white t-shirt along with running shoes. Best to wear something for a spar rather than dirtying up a Shihakusho. Sheathed to his side was the Asauchi broad sword, the bronze hilt gleaming in the sunlight.

"Well met." Amon says ready to get things started, and as Hanako set the bag down off to the side Amon shifted across from the woman. He was eager, but tried to not show it overtly.

With a smile, Amon unsheathed his weapon and replied, "Yep, I wanna kinda find my own style and perfect it in my... own little way I guess. Let's kick this off. I'm already pumped from Kuchikis sparring session."

In truth Amon looked forward to seeing Hanako more in action on this sense. It could allow him to understand the lady as well... Well, at least in the combative sense. He raised his blades tip until it covered Hanako's chin from his view, not disregarding what she had said but rather eager overall. Amons goal was to get his sword mastery on par, lord forbid a Hollow take advantage of the poor guy and he just felt weak compared to everyone else. Maybe that's why he doesn't excel, in the fact he compares himself to everyone else?

Hanako smiled a thin smile, while her eyes glistened with anticipation.

"That's what I like to hear." She said.

It was nice to hear that Amon was obviously able to enjoy a battle. She could be wrong, of course, but she didn't believe that she was. That was one of the reasons she was here offering her help. She felt a kindred spirit in Amon. A warrior, like herself, with obstacles in his way. Not that she felt any less connected to gifted fellow Shinigami, like those that achieved their Shikai's early. But since she had to work long and hard herself it would always be different with people like Amon. People that had come the long way around.

A sudden flash of memories of the time she stood in a training yard with Magnolia broadened her smile a little. That was when she first really began to feel like a Shinigami, like a warrior.

Her eyes focused on Amon and she let her weight lower into her hips.

Then she jumped forward and in the same motion unsheathed Bakumusha. In a wide arc of glittering cold steel she swung the sword horizontally from her left to her right. The swing had no chance of hitting Amon, unless he'd jump forward and straight into it. But it wasn't meant to hit. It was just meant to prevent just that: Amon closing the gap too soon.
Without pause Hanako brought the sword up over her head, grabbed it with both hands and brought it down in a diagonal cut, together with a decisive step forward.
Now this one was supposed to hit, and it would if Amon did nothing. However it was quite a predictable move and he would easily be able to block, deflect or evade. The surprise would be that Hanakonha put a considerable amount of force behind it, to see how Amon would handle it, if he chose to take it head on.

Amon watched Hanako crouch into a stance and immediately lunge toward him. He was about cut her shirt when she decided to deliver a horizontal swing causing the Shinigami to quickly rethink his decision. He took about two steps back for the blade to swing by but in an instance Hanako went for a vertical slash with both hands. While she seemed a tad slow and the attack would land anyhow Amon decided the best way to deal with this was to block... He guessed.

The Shinigami allowed the weight of the blade to carry down his own as he went to block it. The force of the impact was surprising and Amon angles his Asauchi outward toward his body so Hanako's Zanpacto slid off to the side. The moment that happened Amon lunged for a harsh blow to the gut with his knee, followed by a quick throat jab that was followed by an upward slash from his Asauchi in one hand. If this went how he'd half-assed planned, then the counterstrike would allow for an opening for the Shinigami to go on the offensive quickly... But he was up against a veteran, a veteran who he was fighting dirty with. Oh well, he can take an asswhoopin'.

"Not bad! Hanako thought when Amon first blocked and then decided to deflect her blow. It was the right decision, she would have done the same. Simy blocking outright could have worked, too, but to overpower an opponent required raw strength. You had to know you were able to pull that off. Since Amon and Hanako had never had the chance to go against each other like this yet, he had no way of knowing and deflecting the blow was the smart thing to do. And he had done it. A wild spark of joy appeared in Hanako's chest: this promised to be good fun.

The momentum of her own blow pulled on Hanako and attempted to carry her forward. She could have stopped with sheer power, but she let it happen instead to see what Amon wanted to do.

While her upper body bent slightly forward his knee came up. He let her run right into it.
Hanako exerted some of her spiritual pressure to harden her body against the blow. When it hit she used the momentum from it to turn her hip and make a quick rotating step out of Amon's center line. A good move. As it turned out, because already one of Amon's hands was thrusting upwards for what could have been a painful jap against her throat, had she not evaded.
She extended her step with another full step and then a gliding step, to get farther away from his center and more into his back. She saw his sword move, but wasn't in any danger anymore.

She took her left hand from her sword and jabbed forward with the palm of her hand to hit Amon in his back. It would maybe hurt und make him stumble a bit, but wouldn't do any serious damage. Immediately after she flash stepped a short distance away from him.

"Good, you move quickly and you have the right instincts. But that was too much. You tried to do too much and left yourself open."

She said. It was just a simple observation, emotionless, except maybe the joy over the sport and art of fighting.

"There were two basic rules I had to learn the hard way myself: Don't make any unnecessary moves and always keep the front center of your body towards the opponent. Of course especially the latter gets a bit tricky against multiple opponents, but you get what I want to say, I hope."

Hanako started to move again. Her sword was in both hands again, in front of her body, the tip at approximately the height Amon's throat would be. With quick, short and controlled steps she moved in ob Amon in a slightly diagonal line. When she came close she dropped the sword down and to her left, as if she planned a diagonal cut from her lower right to upper left. It was a traditional sparring invitation, leaving herself purposefully open. Amon probably would see through it, but that would be okay. After all, it was a sparring match.

Amon's first attack, his knee drive, had succeeded in hitting Hanako in the gut. Unfortunately she had broadened her defenses by using her spiritual power and his knee felt like he had just dropped down five feet onto pavement. His leg felt kind of numb and tensed however just as he delivered his throat hit and his sword swipe Hanako managed to easily. And in am instant before he could gain composure Amon felt a sudden strike at his back, causing him to say aloud, "Fffuck!"

Amon stumbled forward before quickly gaining composure and turning with his blade raised. Hanako spoke to him, and he almost forgot that this was a spar and not a death match. The Shinigami listened in and settled himself from getting worked up. 'Center yourself and front toward the opponent... I can manage that.' He managed to get that point across mentally just before Hanako rushed him with his blade lowered at throat level, Amon steadied himself as he realized she was left open relatively easy and quickly assumed it was an invitation to further their sword play.

Then the bitch changed her damn tactics. Amon was ready to take the head on stab but then Hanako lowered her blade and he could see she was wanting do an upward diagonal slash. She was still open to a degree, and Amon too that big hint. He also realized that he wasn't using a katana like all these people, he was using a broadsword of all things and for him to try and use it like it was any other blade was a fools gambit. This line of thought caused him to start being cautious instead of reckless and gung-ho, and as quickly as Hanako approached Amon blocked the incoming attack. He'd work from here, but how to utilize a fucking medieval weapons was beyond him. Maybe this was a moment where Amon finds that out?

And the moment their blades clashed Amon steadied himself, putting more himself and his spiritual power into the effort of blacking and countering. Though he didn't see it, green sparks danced from his blade for a mere second.

While the steel of their blades touched and sparks flew, a flash of memory went through Hanako's mind. Not so long ago she was in Amon's position. And in her position was the great Magnolia Everfrost. Not that Hanako wod have dared to compare herself to the second in command of the Gotei. She was better in every aspect that somehow mattered. And thanks to her, Hanako was as well. Better than before. Different than before. What Hanako had learned from Magnolia had changed her so much that the one that had been training under her was basically a different person.

With a faint smile she remembered some.of the lessons she had learned back then.

When they separated again Hanako waited only a heartbeat before she attacked again. This time she used a bit more energy and strength. Her blows were all aimed such that she could stop her blade, should Amon not be able to block or deflect. That being so, she now put on a lot more pressure. She dealt blow after blow to push Amon back. Maybe it was flexing a bit, but she wanted to see how he would react. Skills and power was one thing, it could be trained. But there was more...Hanako pushed Amon a bit to see what was there.

"What is it you're fighting with" she asked, while the steel of their blades sang.
"What is that piece of metal in your hands? Tell me, what does it mean to you?!"

Hanako wasn't exactly yelling, yet her voice was loud and forceful. The ringing of metal against metal made for an eerie background music, while the flying sparks danced between the two shinigami like ghost lights.

After she had asked her question Hanako suddenly took a step back. In the same moment she swung her blade in a forceful motion, sending energy through it, swirling up dust and some debris. Then she flash stepped several meters away from Amon.

"Your sword." She said again, much more quiet now. "What is it to you?"

Amon noticed the immediate change in pace once his and Hanako's blades disconnected again. She was a lot more aggressive in her sword play, faster and stronger, her forms of attack was something he could barely keep up with. Amon felt like he was losing ground quickly. He was beginning to adapt to Hanako slowly but that didn't matter as she took two steps forward he could only take one, she was gaining more and more ground as he was forced into the defensive. She was better, she wasn't even trying, Amon knew it and the sudden rush of guilt and doubt filled his mind.

As the blades grew louder in their clash, each blow getting closer to his body, he saw flashes of white with each strike and the sudden noises of gunfire filled his ears. In his mind Amon was twelve again, the massacre that took place as he watched his parents bodies fall and everyone else, the flash of bullets tearing through the air. He felt himself tugged and fallen to the ground, each blow of a blade was blocked with as much force he could muster, then everything went dark suddenly. Focus. Breath. Feel the rush of adrenaline. Feel the blood course in your veins. What will you do, and who are you? You, a weak Shinigami who hasn't a single power, a skill let alone a Zanpacto, what will you do? What is your blade to you?

Then everything came back to him, Amon saw a flash of white fire not physically but in his eyes a sudden fury lit ablaze. When Hanako delivered a single and final blow he blocked it with his own force of a blade, meeting her attack with his own. And in a sudden instance Hanako quickly backed off. Amon jerked forward as of he was going to follow her, a hot anger and a near feral look about his eyes said he was getting too much into the match, he was backed into a corner against a stronger force. Amon did everything he could to not tell her to fuck herself, he couldn't calm down, his heart hammered and he was about to okay the ultimate game of 'Hold my Beer.'

After a few seconds Amon had to think about what Hanako asked him. He couldn't answer it in words, it didn't settle right, instead he opted to position his Asauchi in front of him pointing at an upward angle above Hanako's head. It wasn't with words, and in his eyes it shown his answer was plain and simple. The blade was an extension of him, his fury, his ferocity, it wasn't a mere piece of metal. His mind was settled with that, the Asauchi was a piece of his body and not just some weapon, that was what he understood. He didn't Hanako thinking he'd already said it, but his expression was confirmation enough.

She had seen it. That furious fire, burning bright and hot as the sun in the midday's sky, right there, behind Amon's eyes. She recognised it instantly, because she was intimately familiar with it. She had looked through that fire many times herself.

She had also fought against losing control completely. It came with that fire.

Only that going berserk was ultimately self-defeating, literally. There was no.plan in it, no tactics, no thinking, no friend or foe. There was only senseless destruction. The great challenge, that everyone who knew the fire had to accept, was to control it. It sounded simple, but that was as far from the truth as Hueco Mundo was from the Royal Palace of Soul Society.

Amon seemed to be able to exert some control over his emotions. But she felt his struggle as well, because it was also her own.

He answered her question without words, but Hanako was pretty sure she understood. This was the next thing she felt she understood quite well about Amon: he had the soul of a purebred warrior. However, even if she understood, she had hoped for an answer a little bit more... elaborate.

"I understand." She said. "But I want you to say it. Speak it, make it real. I do understand you, because I am quite sure we are very similar in a lot of matters. But I still want you to pretend I didn't. Make me understand."

She took her sword into both hands again, held it in front of her body, herself assuming a neutral stance. Her weight was evenly distributed, her stand firm, her blade was aimed upwards at an angle in front of her, ready to both attack and defend. Yet she didn't move.

"I also have one more question." She added and her voice suddenly sounded like a lurking animal, ready to pounce.

"What is your greatest fear."
