There was definitely a point in time where Vera was certainly someone that could be called a normal girl. That point, however, was a long time ago, well before she became a testbed for experimentation at the Clinch River facility. While she still generally puts up a facade of still being a normal girl, it’s fairly clear that isn’t the case with only the barest minimum prodding. Years in such a place, with little to accompany her other than her thoughts and her fellow experiments, have left her with something of an impersonal and condescending personality. This, however, is overshadowed often by her exceptionally clingy nature, starved for attention and interpersonal interaction after far too long underground.

In a word, she’s a bitch. Don’t leave her alone for long, though, or she won’t let you forget it.


There isn’t much to be said about Vera’s life. In her younger years, she’d aspired to be a physicist, and her research ended up bringing her into the Clinch River project to learn more about the spiritual realm and its energies. Her youth and drive made her a prime candidate for attempts to fully discern the nature of immortality, and so she became the subject of one of the many experiments in the underground lab. Unfortunately, these experiments were not the sort that ended well for her, and in time, a good deal of her humanity was washed away in the black miasma that made up all of Clinch River’s fundamental works. Her memories became a blur, and her ambitions were all but lost.

In the end, she simply became one more casualty of the laboratory, and it’s hard to say for certain whether she’s still the girl named Vera at all, or simply a monster wearing her face.


[REDACTED] Form: Vera is a being comprised almost entirely of [REDACTED], the same black fluid that fills much of the Clinch River laboratory. Her form is stable, however, inasmuch as it does not actively leak further [REDACTED] into the air surrounding her. Because of this, while she is incapable of projecting or otherwise manipulating it in any exciting manner, Vera can more or less reshape her body at will, and her actual physical form borders on indestructible when it comes to mundane attacks. However, as she lacks any source of [REDACTED] to replenish from, on top of her own individual nature as an experiment, her ability to simply absorb outside energy is quite drastically cut. Rather than absorbing spiritual energy and corrupting it into her own being, Vera’s nullifying power causes a mutual destruction of the [REDACTED] that composes her body and the spiritual energy she nullifies. As such, this is a defense she uses in only the absolute last possible resort, and it's not hard to say that even a moderately strong spiritual attack could likely disintegrate her into nothing if she attempted to nullify it.

Black Abode: On account of her ability to simply melt into the spiritually-null [REDACTED] at will, Vera is very adept at hiding in shadows. While she typically travels within the shadow of the mercenary Sigurd, in truth she could easily blend into nearly any shadow without much issue, making detecting her significantly harder due to her lack of spiritual presence.
